@jelloguts requested some Kliensen headcanons, so here you go! I hope you like them!

I’ve always had the headcanon that Jared’s a gamer, so Evan and Jared play video games together.

Jared is very competitive, while Evan shrugs and goes with the flow.

When Evan gets really good at playing, Jared gets upset because his boyfriend beat him.

Evan panics because he thinks Jared is actually upset with him.

When Jared realizes this, he kisses him on the cheek and assures Evan he still loves him.

They cuddle in a large bean bag chair while playing.

Sometimes Evan doesn’t even play, he just cuddles Jared.

Enough with the gamer headcanons, here’s some other ones:

Jared is BLIND and needs glasses with a strong prescription. If Evan tries them on, he takes them off immediately because the lenses are strong enough to give him a headache.

Jared’s glasses get smudged, so Evan always cleans them so he can see Jared’s eyes.

I hc Jared to be a bit chubby, so he gives Evan quality cuddles.

Sometimes Jared gets insecure, but Evan always tells him he loves the things Jared is insercure about (and Evan truly means it).

Jared whispers corny jokes in Evan’s ear at inappropriate times (in class, a family dinner, etc). Evan would embarrass himself because he would die of laughter while everyone around them would be confused.

When they move in together eventually, their home would be full of pets. Jared and Evan can’t resist when they see a animal in need of a home, so they would bring home multiple creatures.

I was just reading this list of Be More Chill ship names on amino and it lists one of the ship names for Christine/Jeremy/Brooke as Pine Trees and that is literally the most PERFECT name for Evan/Jared i.e Kleinsen.

Seriously, why are they not called Pine Trees?! We have idiosyncratic ship names for every other common Dear Evan Hansen ship - Treebros, Sincerely Three, Galaxy Gals, Bandtrees, might as well follow along.

My headcanon is that Evan had short straight hair (sort of paying homage to original Broadway Evan Hansen played by Ben Platt) during elementary and middle school, but it grew out over the summer before high school starts and he didn’t want to burden (even though it’s not really a burden) Heidi with a back-to-school trim, so he let it get long-ish and curly…

And he’s self conscious of it because it’s new and different and he thinks that the kids from middle school will notice (they don’t care), so he goes to Jared for some kind of reassurance. He halfway expects a joke to be made, but it never comes. Jared looks at him but not in the way he normally does.

Jared tells him that it looks “good” because that’s the first thing that comes to mind that won’t embarrass the ever-living crap out of him.

 a list of sad headcanons following jared and evan after the events of the musical

Evan takes a week off of school after the events of ‘good for you’ and ‘words fail’ 

(he wanted to drop out of high school altogether but heidi insisted that the sooner he gets back to school and graduates the sooner he’ll move on)

he keeps to himself mostly - the newness of the Connor project wore off and left him in the same social position as he was in in the beginning of the musical, and Evan never thought he’d be relieved for it to be that way

he apologized to Alana, and while she didn’t exactly forgive him, at least she listened, and while she still pointedly ignores him, at least he knows he deserves it

he doesn’t say anything to Zoe, and doesn’t expect that he ever will again. It’s another month before she smiles to him in the hallway, and that’s enough for him, knowing that she forgives him at least a little bit.

It hurts the most, though, whenever he sees Jared leaving the room whenever he enters. Jared, his family friend of 18 years who he used to think was invincible, who now wears such a lost and wounded look on his face and won’t look anyone in the eye. Evan still tells his mom to tell Jared’s mom good things about Jared, in the hopes that he would see that he’s really sorry

As time goes on, Evan’s life starts to even out and the events of the Connor project do seem a bit distant now, if only by a little bit. Evan’s started talking to different kids in his classes. He’s not Mr. Popular, by any means, but he’s been taking the initiative when working with Dr. Sherman and now he has a small group of friends at school. Not close friends, but people who notice him and care about him.

He’s still painfully aware that exactly 6 minutes after he enters the cafeteria, Jared heads out with his head down. He followed him once, just to see where he went and it broke his heart when he found him in the computer lab, eating lunch alone. So Evan was right. he really didn’t have any other friends.

heidi knows, of course. Evan doesn’t keep secrets anymore. She knows how much he misses his friend, even if they were only ever ‘family friends’ or ‘Connor project collaborators’. She encourages him to go over, apologize, to at least start a conversation before they go off to college. He says he doesn’t want to push him before he’s ready.

A week before graduation, Evan can’t take it anymore and heads over to the Klienman’s. When he asks for Jared, his mom smiles and says, “I’m sure Jared’ll be ecstatic to see you,” which means Jared never told her anything. Which kind of hurts.

Jared’s at his desk. he’s not working on anything, but doesn’t look up when Evan enters his room. 

He starts apologizing. He’s sorry for everything, he’s sorry for dragging Jared into the whole thing, he’s sorry for how he treated him, and he’s especially sorry that in the midst of getting what he thought he wanted, he neglected to see that it wasn’t real. Evan doesn’t expect Jared to forgive him or anything, but he feels so guilty every day, it just needed to be said. he ends by offering his time if he ever wants to talk, or ever try to be (family) friends again...

But Jared’s silent and still won’t look up, but upon closer evaluation Evan can see that he’s crying. And because Evan is just an Emotional Boy, he starts crying too

Eventually Jared’s the first one to stop and he takes off his glasses and wipes his eyes and cracks some sort of joke about how he’s got to stop cutting onions in his room, and Evan knows he’s okay and that he’s been forgiven, and they hang out and catch up and play video games, two friends on a perfect day
