World’s End Club Headcanon Masterpost (The Go-Getters)
Tumblr media
Cheers to the first post of 2024!!!
In General
They all have an aptly named “Ice cream day”, in which they ride off to the nearest ice cream shop to get their favorite flavors. And if you’re curious, here are each of their fave flavors:
Reycho- Caramel Banana
Vanilla- Vanilla Bean Marshmallow (Obviously)
Kansai- Tiger Milk Tea
Chuko- Cheesecake
Mowchan- Everything But The Kitchen Sink
Nyoro- Strawberries and Cream
Aniki- Toasted Oatmeal
Pai- Maple Bacon
Tattsun- Dragonfruit
Pochi- Neopolitan
Jennu- Ube
Yuki- Frosted Sugar Cookie
Each of them has a friendship bracelet- each having charms of their favorite things. Ex- Reycho has a Fist, Vanilla has a Marshmallow, Pochi has an MP3 Player, Nyoro has a robot, Mowchan has a burger, Chuko has a chili pepper, Tattsun has an Electro Rangers mask, Kansai has a ball and bat, Pai has a flower, Aniki has a guitar, Jennu has Comedy and Tragedy masks, and Yuki has a snowflake.
When it comes to crafting, they have an entire shack when it comes to it. They even invite other kids from around to join in!
Reycho
He’s currently getting baseball lessons from Kansai.
He loves drawing- a lot. Especially when it comes to sports!
He uses sign language to communicate with his friends.
Vanilla
She is quite good at sewing little dolls of yarn!
She enjoys a good storybook or two- especially picture ones.
Dressing up is one of her biggest interests- she also loves taking bubble baths after long days.
Pochi
He’s got a connection to animals- especially dogs. He loves puppies most of all.
He and Reycho moved in with Vanilla and Aniki after the main story, so they’re part of the family.
Not just that, he often invites the others to play video games together and share snacks.
Nyoro
She is arguably the BEST at drawing in the group- all the drawings of blueprints had to start somewhere!
She designs bead jewelry and keychains for her friends to give on their birthdays.
It took a long time for her to forgive her dad, but she did it in giving him a bag keychain she made herself.
Mowchan
He works at food drives so he can spread happiness to those who need it the most.
He makes his own “Secret Sauce”, which is Mayo, ketchup, a bit of soy sauce, a handful of spices, salt, pepper, and a dash of hot sauce.
His parents definitely own a local restaurant.
Chuko
She absolutely HATES bullies. And whenever she sees an innocent person being bullied, she decides to stand up for them.
Her comfort food is definitely anything with cheese. Especially pasta with said ingredient.
She won’t hesitate to jump into action when someone is in danger.
Tattsun
He has an entire collection of comic and manga books at home, mostly ones of Shonen anime.
He has Electro Ranger suits for all of his friends in his closet in case they need to wear them to a convention.
One of his most prized collectibles is a limited edition comic con exclusive Power Rangers Megazord toy.
Kansai
He collects baseball cards. Enough said.
He keeps an entire pack of bubblegum on him for emergencies.
He often invites the others to baseball games at their local park to play together.
Pai
She is an expert in babysitting and always packs extra clothing for everyone when they go on trips.
She loves taking long walks and photographing beautiful animals!
She can write little notes for the ghosts she sees to read.
Aniki
He really wants to take horseback riding lessons with his sister.
He lets his sister stick bows and clips into his hair- and one time even a whole bonnet!
He’s a massive fan of rock music and knows how to play the guitar.
Jennu
She makes her own costumes in her big sis’ honor.
She trades little trinkets with Nyoro as well as designs!
Her favorite musical is Hairspray.
Yuki
Soft pillows and fluffy pajamas are two of her favorite things in the world.
A good book is one of her favorite interests.
She loves tobogganing in the snow, as well as snowball fights! She loves it especially when the gang has them in the park.

Haven’t played the 2nd AI game but thought I would make this meme based off the fact that people are getting mad about it having “woke” content. Uchikoshi has been an ally from the get go.
Some spoiler below
Zero Escape: Snake is Gay, Santa/Aoi is Bisexual, Junpei’s eng VA has stated he thinks Junpei is bi
Punch Line: A bit iffier, but can easily be seen in a transmasculine context. You can tell Uchikoshi/the people behind it did their best to be respectful about the subject matter and treated it in a serious way/did not play it for laughs. There is a lot of weird stuff/fanservice in Punch Line, so go into it with caution.
World’s End Club/Death March Club: When asked on an AMA on reddit if there were any LGBQT+ character in WEC, he stated he never really thought about it but encouraged everyone to interrupt characters as they like.
AI series: one of the characters (Mizuki? I think) gives on speech on how she admires the LGBQT+ community, and then double down on it in the 2nd game saying she wants to protect them and anyone else who is looked down for being who they are.
anyway, uchikoshi based

| -> Danganronpa Styled Sprite of Vanilla from World’s End Club. Took me over two days and about four hours over those two days. Didn’t feel like shading.

Some thoughts and details on my last Gamefly rental, World’s End Club(spoilers for the introductory chapter, for a reason, if you want to skip the first six paragraphs).
Tumblr media
During a bus ride for a school trip in 1995, a group of kids, their group called the Go-Getters Club, suddenly wake up in an underwater theme park after a meteor crashes into Tokyo, it’s shockwaves causing the bus to crash.
A small jester-like being named Pielope then tells them they’re trapped and have to play a Game of Fate to escape, having to complete Tasks on their Wristbands to get a Magic Key to unlock the door to leave. There are several catches, though: each Wristband isn’t for the wearer, but someone else, and only 1 can escape, the rest being eliminated, so they’ll need to find their Task from the others and stop the rest from completing theirs in 1 hour. This swiftly leads to a Danganronpa-esque scenario, with betrayal and distrust occurring swiftly, some being noted to not be acting like themselves.
Eventually, the main playable character, Reycho, manages to win, but finds out that those who were eliminated weren’t killed, just captured, and saves them. Pielope prepares to start up Round 2, but is kicked and seemingly destroyed by Pai, who then claims to know who the mastermind is, and they’re in the current group. As she’s about to reveal who, an earthquake occurs, which causes the glass keeping the ocean water out to crack, and a diving helmet falls and hits her head, causing her to forget.
As the exit is still locked from Reycho using the Magic Key to save the others, they appear to be trapped, but Reycho sees a small model submarine to use, and Awakens a power that lets him pitch and toss the heavy diving helmet at it to lower it, the group piling in and escaping.
Washing up on a shore, they find an abandoned town full of overgrowth and see some X-shaped things in the sky, as the player is shown a newspaper that says “Tokyo Destroyed!’. The kids find out they’re in Kagoshima, far from where they were in Karakura. They then split up to explore the city in groups, Reycho’s group finding weird plant monsters and a creepy dog-like creature that chases them. Mowchan, who had wandered off, Awakens his power and drives the dog monster off.
After regrouping, they decide to make the 1200km trek across Japan back to Tokyo to see what happened when the meteor fell. However, Pai’s words about the mastermind are still in their minds, with some suspicion still stirring in the group.
Now, the game really begins.
The gameplay is partly platforming and puzzle solving, with some combat and boss fights, as well, needing to use the kids’ Awakened powers to proceed, but a vast majority of it is story scenes, kind of like a visual novel, and I think the story and characters are it’s strongest points.
Kind of annoyingly, almost everything that can hurt you kills in one hit, though is pretty forgiving with checkpoints. The action parts and puzzles aren’t too difficult overall, either, imo, except near the very end(with one important puzzle feeling pretty clever).
The members of the Go-Getters eventually Awaken to a unique power, used by pressing the ‘A’ button, Reycho being able to throw heavy objects, Mowchan being able to turn to iron and roll around, etc. A few, namely Chuko, Tattsun and Aniki, need to be ‘prepped’ before the abilities can be used(for example, Chuko quickly eats a bag of spicy Karamucho chips to be able to breath fire when you hit ‘A’, which takes a couple seconds).
Their Awakened abilities can be fun, though I feel that the game doesn’t have them use their Awakened skills as much as they could, since you only ever get to use one at a time(you can’t manually switch between them; it’s always story-based who’s being controlled), though a few sections have them playable in succession after a short cutscene. I’m guessing the story was the heavier focus, but that’s done well, so it’s not too big a deal. Maybe they can expand on this type of gameplay in a later project.
At several points in the story, the group will make camp, and you’ll be able to speak to everyone present. Anyone with new dialogue to say will have a ‘!’ above them, and ‘...’ when they don’t.
Multiple times in the story, there’ll be points where the story branches, either the group splitting up or choosing to all go somewhere over another. Once you finish Ending 1, you can go back and choose to go a different way, needing to see everything to see the True Ending, but you’re stuck with what you chose until then.
Throughout the Action stages, there’ll be Stickers to collect of an in-universe Super Sentai series, indicated by an area having sparkles floating around. Most of them are easy to get, but a couple are slightly more difficult to reach or make appear. You don’t get anything for finding them all, they’re there just there to look at.
The game has a very nice-looking, charming artstyle and characters(which also translate well to their 3D models), done by ‘take’(who also did designs for Pokemon Sword and Shield), and it kind of feels like a field trip or mini-tour of several parts of Japan(they even go to Shirakawa-go, the same village Hinamizawa from Higurashi is based on, though aside from evening cicadas crying, it’s not otherwise referenced). The story is mostly light-hearted, unlike other Kazutaka Kodaka/Kotaro Uchikoshi works, but does have heavy moments here and there.
The club have their own charming anthem that they sing on a few occasions. Here’s one of the first English versions that plays during the game. It’s sung by the cast in both English and Japanese voice tracks, the former including AmaLee, who voices Vanilla, and sounds good in both to me.
The group even has a little ‘gesture’ they do, two fist bumps to their own chest and then outstretching their right arm while doing a thumbs up, which I may have joined in on a few times.
I won’t say who it is, because it’s a big spoiler, but I feel like there’s a certain character that I’d like to have seen some more interaction with between them and the main characters.
Though their other works are probably overall better, I definitely recommend this, and it seems to go on sale mildly often, from what I’ve seen.
Next game being sent is: One Step From Eden.

Is it true that World’s End Club was marketed as a new killing game? Because I remember people online pitching it like that, but I’m not sure if the actual creators did.
Yeah, back when TooKyo Games first roared out of the gate with the simultaneous announcement of four projects in the works, that was definitely how they first teased what would become World's End Club. At the time, there was no title given — it was first teased it was just a piece of concept art with the tagline "A Game of Death for children, by children, starring children."
Later on — after it was given the title "Death March Club" — they began calling it Uchikoshi and Kodaka's "retirement" from making Death Game scenarios, and the official site's summary was focused entirely on the setup of the first chapter. So they kept the ruse up for a fair while!
Of course, we eventually saw the title change to "World's End Club." And after the first footage, every additional trailer made it harder to believe how this was going to work as a "Death Game." And then 3/5ths of the work-in-progress game got stealth-dropped onto Apple Arcade (seemingly in exchange for additional funding, from what we can glean?). And THEN we got a single-chapter "Demo" on Switch some number of weeks before the full game was available, too. Whether you first played it via an Apple device or Switch... once you could experience the first chapter for yourself, it became pretty clear this wasn't going to go the way we'd been made to think. For anyone who didn't play those demos or early releases, though... they still had the opportunity to be blindsided, I guess.

Because I insisted on playing as the real James Fitzjames arising from torpor in 2012 and was really autistic about it I somehow got my Vampire the Masquerade DM to watch The Terror; basically what I'm saying is that I'm about to start a spiral of Terror posting and I would like to apologise for that

drives me up a wall living in a very very red district, like “no democrat is ever going to win any local election, let alone a real leftist” district, like “our school board members ran on who was the most anti-mask” red, like “I pass white supremacist signs on the way to buy weed” red
and being in the local leftist community and the guy who runs the anarchist book club and the lady who helps keep the warming shelters open and the people who marched on city hall when a local business was getting death threats for having a drag show are all members of a discord and we get on this discord and have frank discussions about how best to vote
the people who do the protests and the mutual aid and all the real work
going “okay, they’re both fascists, but this one lacks ambition and seems happy to just glide in the position” or “they both suck, but this one can be reasoned with if you frame it patriotically enough” like we don’t even have a democrat to vote for. we know what a vote is. we know what we hope accomplish with it. we know what it can do, and we know what it can’t.
and going from those discussions to here where people think that your vote is some kind of fucking??? enabling maneuver??? as if someone isn’t going to end up in that seat regardless of what you do???
we didn’t build this system, we just live in it. we’re just trying to survive. a vote isn’t a statement of your values, it’s not an endorsement, it’s not a marriage contract, it’s a strategic play you make to keep alive.
the biggest mistake I see leftists making is overestimating their own popularity. “well but everyone would be leftist if they just-“ no, stop, 1) you can’t possibly know that 2) everyone will not just
