Monster High March Day 3: Toralei Dancing

Idk why, but as I drew this I imagined her dancing to I Am A Poseur by X-Ray Spex.  Has that kind of aggressive “I dont give a fuck” and abrasive-on-purpose energy that I think Toralei revels in.

Some may say "we need to have implications to Maria's death so that Shadow isn't just an asshole" meanwhile Prime Shadow 💖. Like, cmon, we only see him act aggressive because SONIC does something incredibly traumatizing/upsetting for him, his motive is made clear immediately.

Like- with him KNOWING the earthquake is Sonic's fault over the literal villain and asking why Sonic won't just listen to him for once, it clashes with Sonic's jokings about him being a constant grump (especially w/ his friends being shown complaining abt the same things as Shadow beforehand). It paints the image of Sonic not taking him seriously & Shadow taking things too seriously. Shadow is shown to be quick to acting without thinking first, much like sonic, but he also is trying to take things more seriously.

Shadow calling the ghost hill cruel implies its taking emotional tolls on him too, especially with how he says it. So,lowkey, we got the basis of his trauma there regardless tbh. Being powerless as he loses his home and everything he cared abt in it. Dude can't catch a break. But this comes AFTER he's been introduced.

Bro seriously was already trying to help before sonic asked for it, and only backed out when Sonic said things that concerned him. Sonic didn't even know Shadow was already willing to be a team yet until he'd already backed out of the idea bc red flags, got rescued, and realized he had no choice but to do it.

Prime may not have the implications of the classic tragic backstory, but it's made very clear that the show isn't just making him out to be a dick for no reason like Sonic Boom does. Prime Shadow is literally the polar opposite of Boom Shadow, so much so that Prime's fluff is even fluffier than Boom's is. What a Shadow lad, not good not bad, just Shadow. He has no issues wiping the alternate worlds clearly, doesn't want to be friendly with them, but he wants to save his home.

TLDR: it IS possible to make an adaptation of Shadow without a flashback/deep dive into his trauma while still keeping him the angry rival, not making him seem like a jerk, and still keep him to who he is if you use believable cause and effect. (No "he was tricked by antag" tho- bc thats Knuckles.)

ADDITIONAL NOTE: Sonic can make mistakes without being blorboed or toned down too tho. Ofc prime isn't a good example of that but it's possible, just needs the right, understanding writer.
