For HAGFISH DAY I am also going to share my review of the anime series Deca-Dence, which was previewed on my Patreon earlier this year.
Tumblr media
This anime has an extremely unique and absurd twist revealed in only the very second episode.....but more than one internet reviewer completely misunderstood what was going on and even gave the series a negative review as a result!

lend me your strength
The System is gone. The fortress is in ruins. It’s the end of the world. But even after the apocalypse, there will be mouths to feed.
(alternate summary: Minato learns how to drink his Respect Human Juice)
-
Deca-Dence's run was very short and left much up to the imagination. With this fic, I hoped to fill in some of the gaps in storytelling and worldbuilding, as well as process my own ideological struggles that peaked around the time I watched the series. After two years, it's finally done. To the one or two future people picking through the Deca-Dence tag, I hope it finds you well.

People giving even $1 on my patreon can read this exclusive early site article, my detailed review of the creatures, world and wacky true premise of the overlooked anime, Deca Dence. ($1 patrons also see uploads of sketched creature designs and stuff, too) Deca-dence was seriously overlooked by Western anime fans when it was running, and multiple anime websites even gave it negative reviews based on their *misinterpretation* of what's going on in its world. BOOOOO!!!! Anyway, these are all from the same show:

One day I really ought to stream this whole series on my discord.

What are your thoughts on decadence the anime? Is it worth watching?
Hi anon! Thank you for letting me talk about deca dence, I've been itching to do so :D
My non-spoilery thoughts on deca dence are the following: it's an interesting take on a trope that can come off as predictable, but avoids falling into trite clichés by giving you the full context of the world you're seeing early in the story, the relationship between the main characters is adorable and sweet, and the narrative is coherent and does what it needs to do with the 12 episodes that it has
What I really enjoyed, is that even in its silliest moments, you never feel that the story is losing sight of how bleak the whole situation is, and the parallels that can be drawn with our reality are both very in your face and subtle at the same time, so they can be understood on a casual watch too! But if it's your things, there are a few aspects of the story that are fun to dissect
I definitely reccomend it, and even if it turns out that it's not your thing, it's not a huge commitment!
Also Kaburagi. Just Kaburagi.
