Thinking about how much of a full circle moment the Blue Marble photograph was/is.
This image was taken in 1972 by the crew of Apollo 17 on their way to the Moon - the last humans to ever visit Luna, to date.
And it just so happens that the approximate center of the image is the southeastern region of Africa, under bright noonday sun.
And it just so happens that the southeastern region of Africa, from the Cape to the Horn, is where our most ancient prehuman ancestors, the australopithecines, originally evolved.
Dinkʼinesh ("Lucy"), the holotype of Australopithecus and the genesis of our modern understanding of our species' origins, was not discovered until two years after this photo was taken. In this image, the bones of our most treasured ancestor still lie beneath the earth of Qadaqar, Ethiopia.
This is not just an image of our home planet. This is an image of our cradle. This is where the humanity was born, four million years ago.
What a marvelous coincidence, no?

Happy Halloween! Trick or treat?
Hee hoo thanks for the ask, anon! Happy Halloween :3 A silly supernatural jaytim 3 sentence paragraph (lol) fic for you:
"For the last time, I am not getting in the damn coffin with you," Jason huffs.
Tim leans out over the polished wood and satin lining, his fangs flashing as he pouts, winding his arms lazily around Jason's neck and burying his fingertips in Jason's hair-- because he's a dirty cheater and he knows that Jason's willpower is brittle as old bone this close to the full moon. He resolves to stay strong, because if you give Tim an inch then he'll take the whole damn continent.
"You don't have to, I suppose," Tim sighs, red eyes flashing from under his eyelashes. "I'll just be here...cold. Lonely. Wanting." He breathes the words against Jason's lips, and Jason whines. Christ. The things he does for this bloodsucker.

Listen I’m still gd feral about Cang Lan Jue but I think the biggest thing is that for the majority of the show, Xiao Lanhua is disabled. Her damaged roots / the spell that disguised her both left her emotionally stunted, and I’d argue it also affected her ability to even speak. Half the time I’m railing at the screen JUST SPEAK!!
Listen, listen, I’m autistic and when I’m redlining toward a meltdown, I’ll feel like words are boulders that I have to heave out of my chest. It’s fucking gd difficult (and if I’m then forced to speak when I get like that, it only shoves me even faster into *glitchtext* Meltdown(tm)). The executive dysfunction? The emotional dysregulation? Holy shit, check and check. It’s really gd frustrating being locked inside my body and mind railing against all these feelings, internally shrieking JUST SPEAK!!!!
But in that moment? I can’t.
I really wish the show spent more time with her post-ascension, bc I can only imagine how disorienting it must have felt for her, to finally have a brain and nervous system that weren’t frequently fritzing out. Omfg.

people being like "the new fob cover is bad because it's tonally inconsistent and silly" as if the original song doesn't list wheel of fortune, AIDS, and "rock and roller cola wars" within like 20 seconds of each other

I just started Broadchurch.
This has apparently sealed the fact completely that if David Tennant asked me to run away with him, I definitely would. Only contender against him would be Misha Collins, honestly.
So anyway. That's where I'M at tonight.

a lot of one piece fanfics I’ve read that include Portgas D. Rogue make her into some variety of badass and while I think this is totally fair both in a watsonian way (she’s got that goddamn will of D. And no one with that initial can just be normal) and doylistically (she is an underutilized female character in a male-dominated story and deserves it) I simply cannot help but wish for more humble backgrounds.
“Rogue was a bounty hunter!” “Rogue was a pirate!” “Rogue was related to Garp!” How about Rogue was young woman from a small island in the South Blue who was swept up in the wake of the King of the Pirates. And when he died she wasn’t cool and snarky or righteously angry she was grieving and scared and dealing with the fact that she was going to have to raise their baby alone. And before she can even start to come to terms with that, the marines come sweeping into her town (or village, or city,) checking every pregnant woman and child as potential suspects. How about Rogue didn’t have a devil fruit or haki but she did have that goddamn D and the will to look fate and death and biology in the eye and not blink first, even if her hands start to shake. How about Rogue didn’t have crewmates, but she had neighbors, and family, and friends, and some of them had to have seen her and Roger together somewhere. And if they did, they closed ranks around her despite (or perhaps because of) the danger, and that wracked her with guilt. How about Rogue takes after her son, when the propaganda machine starts to churn, and lies awake at night wondering if her home, her people, the world would be better off if she gave herself up. If she didn’t exist. How about Rogue was scared, when the doctors told her what holding back her pregnancy is doing to her body. How about Rogue resented the pirate who came in with his devilish charms and convinced her he loved her, and then abandoned her. How about Rogue considering giving her baby up. How about Rogue feeling that baby move or kick and being filled with so much love that there isn’t room for fear or doubt or anything else.
I dont know a god damn thing about Portgas D. Rogue, I don’t know if she gets more background in the anime or in supplemental materials. But I know that Ace’s mom wore a pretty dress that didn’t show her baby bump, and wore flowers in her hair, and cried when Ace was born cuz she was happy he was alive. And I think a lot about what kind of woman could steal the heart of the king of the pirates, the freest man in the world.
