Xanthoria parietina and Physcia lichens, growing on mulberry bark. Read more below! Learn more about our online courses on herbal medicine & aromatherapy in jointheflow.net Discover my books on bodywork and more: amzn.to/3xhaNey Xanthoria and Physcia lichens grow in similar environments, and therefore they can be often seen together.  A lichen is a composite organism that arises from algae or cyanobacteria living among filaments of multiple fungi species in a mutualistic relationship.  Lichens have properties different from those of their component organisms. They come in many colors, sizes, and forms and are sometimes plant-like, but are not plants. They may have tiny, leafless branches (fruticose); flat leaf-like structures (foliose); crust-like, adhering tightly to a surface (substrate) like a thick coat of paint (crustose); a powder-like appearance (leprose); or other growth forms. Here is my latest yarn with the Aboriginal Australian complexity thinker Tyson Yunkaporta. The episode can be found on the link.tree in Bio Tysons podcast is highly recommended btw. It is basically a high level introduction to Tyson's work at the Nikeri indigenous knowledge lab, i.e. the absolute cutting edge of global international scholarship - and it is regularly hilarious #nordicanimism #rune #animism #heathen #climatechange #viking #DefendTheSacred #sacredearth #deepecology #ragnarok #stopecocide https://www.instagram.com/p/CUPAtCQt0RT/?utm_medium=tumblr

Aquarius bears the idea that maintaining objectivity, high ideals, and progressive thinking leads to obtaining better results in life. That bringing change where things don’t work anymore would improve the conditions of those around them and humanity in general. They are promoters of universal truths, altruism, inspiring and visionary humanitarian spirits that approach life simply. "Think like a mountain" Thinking like a mountain is ... 1. Understand that we are part of the biosphere 2. Understand our responsibility to all other living beings. 3. We must think about the long-term interests of the environment as a whole. "Thinking for the future must be loyal to nature" Arne Naess Life is fundamentally one. ... The deep ecology movement is the ecology movement which questions deeper. ..The adjective 'deep' stresses that we ask why and how, where others do not. Social tools
Internally, we developed as an informal project that self organizes in a non-hierarchical way in an academic context. The results were great so far, much of it due to the innovative way we organise ourselves (so far voluntarily) and using decision-making processes based on sociocracy.
We designed a method for group meetings which we call the 5 A’s. It allows us to discuss many topics and have productive meetings instead of entering endless circular discussions and ending up fed up of the people that make up our group. Meetings are super important moments in which most of the active group is together – this must be praised and honoured, in such way that no it is never supposed to feel like a waste of time. Wanna know the magic recipe? Click the link below:
https://blog.permaculture.org.uk/articles/social-tools-structuring-university-permaculture-project
The gardens we built since 2009, are more productive and fertile, but also more appealing for social gathering and as a place to join the Faculty’s community and external members. While at first the focus was gardening and creating opportunities for scientific demonstration in regenerative agriculture and Permaculture, later on it shifted to how to involve the people, and therefore turning to socialscapes, non-formal education and regenerative social practices. As humans, we are ecosystem engineers. And after the experience of the previous years, we figured out that the most important is to reach the people, to develop a sense of community. We are working together in a synergetic way, bringing the sense that the whole is greater than its parts. Without thinking too much on that initially, we truly built up an intricate network, a web of people and organizations working together for the sake of our planet.

Murray Bookchin, Brian Morris, Rodney Aitchtey, Graham Purchase, Robert Hart and Chris Wilbert, Deep Ecology & Anarchism (London: Freedom Press, 1993) Deep Ecology: Not Man Apart by Rodney Aitchtey ‘He [Thoreau] believed that there would be no regeneration of society without self-reform of the individual.’ p.17 ‘Aldo Leopold (1886–1948) said, ‘We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.’’ p. 20 ‘For a deep ecologist it is an emotional attachment or expansion of consciousness which underlies being and interrelation with nature. Naess calls it Self-realisation when one’s self is widened and deepened. Protection of nature becomes second nature, it becomes naturally protection of one’s very own self! Distinctions are overcome: one’s self and other cease to be considered as separate. Thus, one identifies with the threatened forest, and acts accordingly.’ p.22 Reflections on ‘Deep Ecology’ by Brian Morris ‘Democracy ends as soon as you enter the office or factory gate.’ p.44 Deep Ecology, Anarchosyndicalism, and the Future of Anarchist Thought by Murray Bookchin ‘The most crucial contradictions of capitalism are not those within the system but between the system and the natural world.’ p.57 The Apple Falls from Grace  by Chris Wilbert In these ways capitalism has separated us from the source and knowledge of production of essentials such as food, we are encouraged to trust the experts who are motivated mainly by profits [3] and we are learning that we should not. Without such knowledge of production for food, no moral responsibility for social and environmental consequences of one’s decisions of what to buy seems possible[4].’ p.60 ‘Alternatives do exist, and ways of breaking out of this impersonal, morally irresponsible system, to bring the knowledge and meaning of food production and nature back into our lives, can and must be found.’ p.60 ‘[Claire] Russell has interpreted this myth, along with similar other ones from other cultures along with anthropological studies of societies in Papua New Guinea, as being connected with Kinship. She arrives at some significant conclusions in connection with fruit trees:- From evidence about modern societies that practice simple farming, I was able to show that the Fruit tree is the oldest form of property fixed to a place, and the theft of fruit the oldest form of crime in farming societies (the original sin). Moreover, since Fruit trees may last more than a generation, the fruit tree is the oldest form of heritable fixed property. Since it is important that fruit trees be cared for, it becomes important to control and certify kinship succession. Hence the fruit tree gives rise to the family tree. At this stage of cultural evolution, to ensure regular kinship succession, mating regulations begin to be connected with property.[18]’ p.61

I am re-reading “Sand Talk” and now for the second time, I am absolutely stunned by the depth, power and dynamism of Yunkaportas aboriginal thinking. This is a perspective with a future. It is humoristic, personal while launching “indigenous” thinking into a completely new level of insight. - I think if I should give one recommendation for followers of this channel, then it would be to read this book, very thoroughly and approach our own traditional culture with this thinking. That is what I plan to do in upcoming projects! - apply Yunkaporta’s strategies of embodied dialectic thinking and genious yarning to Nordic cultural knowledge, space, body, materiality. People! - We must start to think like this guy! Think in “how”, more than “what”. Develop processes of knowledge building rather than frantically looking for pieces of data. - The review from my last reading can be found in Bio. - #nordicanimism #animism #heathen #sandtalk #yunkaporta #climatechange #viking #DefendTheSacred #sacredearth #deepecology #ragnarok #stopecocide https://www.instagram.com/p/CTY_TH_Dz7-/?utm_medium=tumblr

Xanthoria parietina lichen, growing on pine bark. Read more below! Learn more about our online courses on herbal medicine & aromatherapy in jointheflow.net Discover my books on bodywork and more: amzn.to/3xhaNey Xanthoria parietina prefers growing on bark and wood; it is found more rarely on rock. The upper surface is some shade of yellow, orange, or greenish yellow, almost green when growing in shady situations, while the lower surface is white, with a cortex, and with sparse pale rhizines or hapters. The outer "skin" of the lichen, the cortex, is composed of closely packed fungal hyphae and serves to protect the thallus from water loss due to evaporation as well as harmful effects of high levels of irradiation. In Xanthoria parietina, the thickness of the thalli is known to vary depending on the habitat in which it grows. Thalli are much thinner in shady locations than in those exposed to full sunshine; this has the effect of protecting the algae that cannot tolerate high light intensities. The lichen pigment parietin gives this species a deep yellow or orange-red color. The water extract of X. parietina has good antiviral activity in vitro, inhibiting the replication of human parainfluenza virus type 2. In the past it was used as a remedy for jaundice because of its yellow color. Photo taken by me, all rights reserved.
