I fuckin’ love meshed together taxidermy like this.
Kinda wish I did something like this with the first deer mount I got from my first buck kill. Woulda been waaay cooler.

Carousel Runaway
Style experiment. Really laid on the contrasts and shapes rather than shading to create the illusion of depth.
It wasn't really a conscious choice to make it into a tarot card styled illustration, but that seemed very natural once I had the composition sketched in, so why not?
The title came to me as I looked at the finished piece and thought that it kinda looks like the rider has ridden a magical carousel beast off the tracks and is escaping off into the woods on it. I really love how art that was made just for the aesthetic starts to write its own story like that.

A History, In Boxes
Tumblr media
the living room looked exactly like the one in my parents’ house when I was a kid
when we moved in, it was like going through old pictures
felt like a place I thought I was never going to go back to
the only thing missing was the deer my dad had mounted on the wall
we were here, and you were holding my hand, and we were surrounded by boxes
this is before I had to figure out what I was going to do without you

Danny finds out hes a clone/ adopted, and instead of processing that like a normal person he decides, "Well its not like they can find me so imma mess with my bio parent(s) while venting my frustrations. Two birds with one stone."
Hence (hero or villian of your choice) begins receiving letters via untraceable magic of him telling them he's thier clone/son and just telling them about his day/past adventures.
Unfortunately most of his adventures are horrifying and the person is desperately scrambling to find thier dumb (possibly undead) child and rescue them.
It probably doesn't help that Danny only signs his name as Phantom and is careful not to give clues to his location.

I wanted to try designing a ghost king steed that wasn’t a skeletal horse and settled on a cervine animal ghost native to the Far Frozen. I love the idea of Frostbite gifting Danny a steed with a core to match his

do you still do taxidermy? :]
Nah, though I still heavily respect, cherish, and seek it out via educational channels and natural history museums. I had a big nerd-out about the La Brea Tar Pits yesterday, in fact, especially finding out they have coyotes.
Anyway, had to stop a long time ago because my cool new disability started showing up. Taxidermy and tanning are intensely labor intensive, I just couldn't do it anymore. Being autistic also means I'm hyper sensitive to pain and cold (your hands tend to get extremely cold due to needing to keep specimens cold) which was another nail in the coffin.
I still keep osteological specimens and clean them, though. Still have the iron stomach to handle decomp smell and touch, too. Haven't taken in a new soul in a while, but I still hope a camel I can name Igore lands in my hands one day.
