happy WBW!! so, Nadia's a tarot reader, right?? does tarot reading in their world work the same as in ours? do the readings end up with more literal presentations than they sometimes do irl? and have you made any extra/setting-specific cards for their deck??
(apologies if any of this is weirdly phrased - im not super familiar with tarot to begin with, and im excited to see how it's incorporated into Nadia's world/story!!)
- @magic-is-something-we-create
Pax!! You're back!! I've missed your questions so much omg I didn't see you after the last wbw I answered super late and I was sad omg how are you I've missed you so much
*ahem*
Now that I've had my golden retriever moment. The answer. Thanks for joining me once again @magic-is-something-we-create I always love your questions.
I haven't actually used tarot in ASMLP yet tbh but of any of my characters, save for Dakota, Nadia is the one that makes the most sense tbh. Should add a scene of it maybe 🤔 Anyway.
Tarot in this universe is... similar? The Invention and origins aren't quite the same (was a card game that got ascribed meaning irl,,, haven't thought about the origins much in this universe). As this is a magical world the decks are actually magical tools and are used as such...they tend to be anchored to deities post-Ascension.
In Nadia's case, this is about as religious as she gets. Do I know what deity she aligns with? No, still have to explore that. But in her case--and in most cases post-Ascension, really--it is their means of communing with and getting answers from the divine. I relate it heavily to my own tarot use, which while CAN be public (hence why I did the Follower event and even offer readings if people throw me a couple bucks), is more often used for my own communication with the gods I worship.
Pre-Ascension/during Godsfall/after Orasion they weren't TOO popular and rarely used because magic of all sorts was still incredibly nebulous and often meant persecution (because it most often meant you were Luricae OR contracted to one). That said, it does get SOME use. Dakota in TWEfA even uses a deck and actually HAS scenes where she uses it to help decide her next steps.
The actual construction is mildly different from the real life counterpart. The decks can be made by one artistically inclined and attuned to their deitiy's voice, but is more often commissioned or passed down, though as the number of gods increase and the number of prophets in turn, tarot is getting more widespread use. A lot of the artwork, in turn, is based on personal discretion, aesthetic, and divine insight.
In terms of format, there's still a split between major and minor Arcana, but I did combine the kings and queens of court cards and renamed a lot of the Majors so they're more archetype based to me. The renamed list of majors is as follows:
The Fool
The Alchemist (renamed Magician)
The Sage (combines High Priestess and elements of Hierophant)
The Regent (combined Emperor and Empress)
The Master (reworked Hierophant)
The Twins (replaces the Lovers, puts less stock in the "love" part of this card and more on the "choices" element)
The Charioteer (basically The Chariot)
The Conqueror (renamed Strength)
The Hermit (same)
The Fate (renamed Wheel of Fortune)
The Arbiter (renamed Justice)
The Hanged One (renamed Hanged Man)
The Revolutionist (renamed Death)
The Scales (renamed Temperance)
The Monster (renamed Devil)
The Destroyer (renamed Tower)*
The Star (same)*
The Illusionist (renamed Moon)
The Sun (same)*
The Harbinger (renamed Judgement)
The World (same)*
*names subject to change because a couple of them no longer vibe or just got changed etc.
And uhhhh think that's it for now!!

I’ve been studying/watching stories about all the Greek Gods/Goddesses/Deities and I realized how “imperfect” most of them were and it made me slightly uncomfortable. For example, imo Poseidon wasn’t “good” he was jealous, vengeful, moody, etc.
Zeus was a hoe lol and Athena was supposedly the Goddess of Justice and War but she did some unjust things.
Then I thought about Christianity and how God is also known to be jealous and will set the world ablaze in due time. What are you thoughts on this? Is to worship a God/Goddess/Deitiy to also accept their faults?
And the list goes on tbh. Aphrodite was frequently jealous. Hathor -Sekhmet massacred a whole bunch of people. Hermes was a messy person lol. Ares is basically a modern fuck boy. The jinn women, mermaids, sirens, nymphs were killing men left and right
My understanding is how can they help us if they've never been through anything? When they incarnated through human stories, they lived human lives, they were cheated on, fought, killed, sought revenge and loved and lost. I don't see any of my gang as being separate from me. They are not in the sky, they are within us. That's why I dream and see them, their mysteries is ours.
Its extremely complex and its a good point. Working with other beings is meant to be a mutually beneficial experience so if you feel uncomfortable or as if your life isn't getting better, you don't have to go forward with it.

book review: Archangels 101 by Doreen Virtue
Overall: Would recommend. One of the better sources of Angel information I’ve found
*details & full review under cut*
Tumblr media
If you’ve been called to work with angels and learn about them, this is one of the better sources of information I’ve found. Personally, one of the only things I’ve taken from my parents religious teachings is that everyone has a guardian angel – maybe more than one.
My mother had an angel figurine in every room of the house, usually glass or stained glass hanging in windows. She always said that, “If there’s an angel in the room, you’ll be protected.” If one fell or broke, her theory was that it had taken some negative energy from the home away.
She, just like the author of this book, Doreen Virtue, is a Christian woman.
And, if you’re not opposed to Christian teachings or views, then you’ll find this book helpful.
I myself am agnostic, meaning I believe in something, but I’m not quite sure what to call it. While the teachings of the Christian faith never quite resonated with me, I find there are lessons with in – within all religions, actually – that I can learn from.
Virtue comes outright and says that her book is written from a Christian perspective, taking stories from Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. And well, that makes sense. I’ve yet to find a source that makes sense that explains the angels coming from anything else. The origins of the angels are from the Bible, old and New Testament, and the other books.
Still, I find that working with the angels is well known and used by many spiritual practinoer and spiritualists, regardless of their spiritual beliefs. Their origins, messages, and love are universal.
This book puts common angels into perspective, and how and why you would want to contact each one.
My only complaint is that the anecdotes and stories of those who’ve experienced the angels are quite lengthy. I would have much rather had information on more symbols, colors, scents, etc. that are associated with each one. They’re only briefly mentioned, intertwined with the anecdotes.
Overall, the book gave me a much clearer idea of what the angels were like, and I was able to easily separate the Christianity. If you’re used to or okay with switching the word “God” for “the universe” or other deity, you should be okay reading this.
As it’s hard to find sources and books on angels, I would consider this one a trustworthy, valuable source. I plan to find and read her book on working the angels and ascended masters next.
Let me know if you’d want me to do more book reviews on witchy and spiritual books!

I’ve started a “mail” box. I find myself writing a lot, so I’ve decided it will be a better alternative to just piling them on their altars.

How can I make a proper apology to the gods for being a really bad worshipper. I think depression has affected my memory and right now I can't even focus through a single prayer because my mind switches off. I used to have a connection to them but I neglected it and now I have nothing. I feel like such a worthless person. Why should the gods even listen to me or waste their time on me when I can't even do anything right.
As someone who is also struggling with depression and finally pulling myself out of it, all that you just said and are thinking is the depression talking not what the gods actually think.
You’re not a bad worshiper. You have a mental illness, there’s a difference. And the gods know this and they understand it. Is someone with a broken leg going to apologize for not being able to walk?? Is someone with the flu going to apologize for not being able to get out of bed?? No. So you don’t need to apologize for your depression affecting you and your life.
I know it’s hard but you HAVE to give yourself some love right now. Beating yourself up, trying to get yourself to do things you can’t do, setting ridiculous expectations, it’s all just going to sink you deeper into this depression. You have to acknowledge that you are depressed which means you might not have the energy to do everything you think you “should” do. And that’s okay. Because again when someone has the flu the only expectation of them is to rest and get better. So you need to rest and get better. If that means taking a break from worship for awhile then thats fine. The gods will be there when you’re ready.
Or you could change your worship around to better fit where you are currently. Stop trying to force yourself to do things that your depression won’t let you do. Again that’s just going to further fuel the negative cycle. Instead think about what would be easy for you to do. Maybe even link worship with managing your depression. Is there a way for you to incorporate both?? Try not to think about “have tos” or “shoulds”. Think outside of those boxes and find instead “what works for you”.
But regardless what I want from you more than anything is to be kinder to yourself. I do know for a fact that it’s not that easy but you really need some compassion, love, and patience right now. So why not give yourself some?

So, honesty hour, I guess.
I’ve been having some faith struggles--well, not recently, because it’s something that’s been bothering me for years.
My parents, both side of the family, are Catholic. But, like, my parents are Catholic Light. More culturally Catholic than anything. They haven’t been to church, except for like weddings and funerals, for decades, I believe. My mom would sometimes say stuff that “it’s not nice of me that I only pray when I’m in trouble,” but that’s it. My dad, even more so. Religion was never a thing in our house as I was growing up.
But they had me baptized--the appease the grandmothers, according to them. (Apparently it was a rather poor event, with the priest talking over my parents’ heads so much that my mom though he was talking to somebody standing behind them. I was a year old, I wouldn’t know.) And my religious upbringing started and ended here.
As I said, religion wasn’t a thing for me growing up. In my tween years, I believe, I started to feel like Christianity was not for me, and this feeling solidified by 9th grade, when we basically spent a whole semester studying the Bible in Lit class (I’m still mad about the book of Job). For years I’d identify as “atheist... but I believe in the existence of a higher power.” It wasn’t until that I hit my twenties that I realized that there were options for me, a white European living in a culturally Christian country, other than “Christian” and “atheist.” And it was in the last couple of years that I openly started to identify as pagan/Wiccan (which was helped a lot by the fact that we started observing the Sabbats with a couple of friends as a group).
Now my problem is... Okay, so my deep sated belief is that either all deities ever worshipped exist, or none of them. To me, saying that “my deitiy exists, but all of yours don’t” seems like hubris. So I accept the existence of the Christian God (the Catholic/Protestant/Anglican/etc. version too--whether they are different or the same entities is a completely different question, which I’m not even qualified to debate). And this is where the fact that I was baptised starts to bother me.
Whenever I bring it up, my mother usually dismisses my concerns simply by saying “well, just don’t talk about it then.” But not talking about it doesn’t change the fact that, without my consent, I was initiated into a church I don’t want to be a part of. I feel like my parents gave a jurisdiction over me to a deity I don’t want to have anything to do with. Or like as if somebody bought a life-long subscription to a magazine in my name, which I never read, and I cannot cancel.
Because that’s what I want: I want my baptism to be cancelled, deleted from record. But apparently it’s not a thing in the Catholic church--it’s once in a lifetime thing. Irreversible.
The older I get, the more it bothers me. At this point, I’m seriously thinking about finding an open-minded Catholic priest, and have a talk with him about my options. If it comes down to it, I’m totally okay with an excommunication, too. I am, I’m heretic enough.

Hi I’m pretty new to offerings and prayer to the gods and was wondering how often I should put out offerings to my gods and when? Some gods have specific times so that’s simple enough I guess I need to do more research. I’ve also tried to do some research on structuring my offerings / rituals and any tips or advice for structuring offerings / prayers?? Thank you so much!!
To be honest, what times you do it and how often is up to you. If you want to put out an offering every day, thats totally cool! If you want to do it just once a week, thats totally valid too!
The structure of your rituals is also personal and can be as elaborate or as simple as you'd like. Most of the time, when i give an offering i leave it on my alter, light some incense or a candle, pray, sit with it and meditate for a bit, and then leave it until the incense/candle is burnt out. What you prefer will develop as your worship does. Getting insight from whoever youre offering too is also a good idea if you're super unsure.
For prayers- you guessed it- its up to you! Theres no one set prayer, and saying something thats personal to you is, in my opinion, better then using someone else's prayer. However, for reference, a nice simple prayer would be something like "[blank], please take this offering of [blank] as thanks for [blank]." and then whatever else you'd like to tell them.
Also, a tip for offerings: dont worry about every single offering you make being super extravagant. Its more of an "its the thought that counts" type situation, so even if the only thing you can give is a bit of olive oil or a water libation, i think that theyd much prefer that more frequently over something fancy once every few months.
Second tip: devotional acts are a beautiful thing. A devotional act, as the name suggests, is something you do in devotion to your deitiy. For example: for me, writing is a devotional act to Apollo(cause of arts) and Hermes(cause hes the language guy.) Every Friday i do a sort of self-care day and dedicate it to Aphrodite. Devotional acts are great cause, even if you dont have the energy to do offerings or an act that takes a lot of energy, even something as simple as taking a shower, brushing your teeth, or cleaning up your alter can be a devotional act! And, as a bonus, knowing that youre doing said thing for your god might help motivate you to do things that would otherwise be tough for you.
In the end, its really about forming your worship around what is most comfortable for you. So dont be afraid to try new things and see what works! Every way is valid, so long as you're respectful to yourself, to others, and to the theoi.

Pike was walking out of church, a hop with each step she took with an extra pep in her step.  “I don’t know who this god deitiy is but he seems rather selfish.” She sighed, “I mean single worship is a thing but to deny all other deities, seems like someone never taught him how to share." She took a breathe looking for a change of conversation. "You know what we need... ICE CREAM, I wonder if I can find an ice cream shop.”

I didn't catch the first time which deitiy Caduceus is worshipping and I just realized that is the Wildmother. I am overjoyed by the idea of a cleric of grave domain worshipping the Godess of nature, that and I am very excited to learn more about the Wildmother.

I’m new to paganism, and interested in seeing how worship rituals work via /r/pagan
I’m new to paganism, and interested in seeing how worship rituals work
Hi all! As above, I’m interested in learning about pagan rituals, and I thought it would be best to get it from the horses mouth. In that respect, I have a few questions. I hope you can answer them, thanks in advance!
1) Which deities do you worship and how do you worship them? 2) is it considered acceptable to worship deities from more than one pantheon (for example, Thor and Zeus at the same time)? 3) How do you figure out which deities to worship? 4) Are there any good ones to worship if you’re secretly Trans? 5) If you’re an atheist, but are interested in performing a ritual anyways is that okay? 6) is there any differences between worshiping a major or minor deitiy (for example, comparing Odin or Thoth to Snotra or Ceridwen) 7) What is astral projection, how do you do it, and what can you expect from it?
I hope you can answer my questions, still very new to these ideas and deities but I already have a few ideas on some god(desses) I’d consider approaching. Many thanks!
Edit: Sorry, I forgot one question

I didn't miss the point, I'm seeing you disrespect and misinterprate a deitiy that is part of my worship and I'm calling you out on your coopting bullshit.
~was coded bi~ just because a woman at one point had a relationship with a man doesnt automatically mean that she’s ~bi coded~, she could be a lesbian just as well. there’s no conclusive proof either way so it?? literally doesnt matter?? the fact is that she was and is worshipped by lesbians?? why do yall constantly have to keep shitting on everything as soon as lesbians get involved damn

if i were to put this into like...RP terms
since i decided the mods of my RP world are like..the deities and such of the worlds order and shit (only 3 of them)
like...this is the equvilant of a fallen angel turned...what ever
borrowing his way into the center of the earth to the deitiy that lives there, the one he worships, the one he has absolute faith in
and then he finds them, locked away within a black orb, pitch black, drained of life and love and feeling and hope
and just...gives his heart and soul and love to them, to have them feel, to have them be what he knows they could be
and so he revitalizes them by becoming one with them
but the god is still...not 100% at strength...
...i guess that means the fusion would change over time, idk
im very tired
