it never stops being funny to me that people are bkdk antis in the year 2024 like “katsuki bullied izuku!! how dare you ship izuku with him” ??? take it up with izuku he’s is the one pining his ass off for him. I can’t make izuku not yearn for katsuki ??? I’m sorry I have observational skills?? izuku is just like that you think I can stop him??

MHA HCS - 2
Deku!! - I SHIP BKDK
He RELIGIOUSLY wears Kacchans merch to sleep, nOTHING else.
He has a Toothless onesie and Kacchan thinks its just the CUTEST thing when he wears it. wore it once on halloween bc he didnt have time to get a real costume
TRANS, his prns r he/it/bun (*yes he uses neopronouns) (IM GONNA USE THESE IN MY POSTS.)
Uses :3, OvO, >v<, ect. CONSTANTLY when texting his friends (+ uses them even more when texting Kacchan)
Kacchan randomly just PICKS HIM UP sometimes, like hes NOTHIN (he is nothin, SO LIGHT to Kacchan)
Has to stand on his tip toes to kiss Kacchan (and he still needs to bend over a bit)

Ch. 410 Thoughts (part 1) - Bakugou v. AFO
Splitting this up into multiple parts this week because I have a lot of thoughts.
Once again, we're reminded that the villains in this story just want to be seen (OFA, Dabi/Touya, Toga, Shigaraki)
Tumblr media
Which makes it a little weird that all the other villain fights are about trying to save the villain, while we're all just waiting for OFA to disappear.
Flashback to Bakugou encouraging Kirishima:
Tumblr media
I've missed this friendship so much and the fact that it reminded him to accept "nothing less than absolute victory" was a nice (if a bit unexpected) reference.
That catch tho:
Tumblr media
I'm not sure if it says more about how badass Kacchan is or how pathetic baby AFO is, but it was a nice moment. ("Nighty night, AFO"😂)
Tumblr media
AFO's little temper tantrum before becoming an embryo and poofing out of existence is just peak ridiculousness, even moreso with Katsuki yelling at an egg.
Also, the bit about the quirks not going back to their owners because it's too much fanservice. Honestly, I'm glad it's not that easy.
I sort of expected there to be more of a fight in the vestige world before AFO disappeared, but I guess we could still get that with that little piece of him that's inside of Shigaraki when we get back to that battle.
Kacchan being a nerd in the best possible way (wanting to do All Might's pose, while telling Izuku to do his best)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, another example about the challenges that come with translation.
Original: 出久 頑張れよ (Izuku...ganbareyo)
頑張る (ganbaru) can be translated as "do your best" or "good luck". Either way, you lose some of the nuance. Personally, I prefer the "do your best" interpretation that most of the fan translations went with because of the callback to the whole 'Deku' sounds like '出来る' or 'I can do it' thing. However, "give him hell" fits with the general sentiment, I guess.

So this isn't necessarily a ship question, it's just something I see come up a lot in ship fics (tho maybe that's just the ones I read lololol)
In fics I often see Bakugou described as someone who "says what they mean/means what they say", who will "speak their mind in a straight forward way", and "always says exactly what's on his mind." And on the one hand I can agree that Bakugou definitely has aspects of this: he started calling Izuku "Deku" because he genuinely thought Deku was useless; he doesn't care when people tell him what to do and he lets them know it; when he feels insulted, he will bite right back. But then at the same time...when I see that I think "Bakugou has never said anything straightforwardly, in his life, ever."
He may have thought Deku was a useless nobody when he first gave him the nickname, but he clearly hasn't since the river--and only continued calling him Deku to force him into the role of "a deku". He insults Kirishima a lot, but clearly sees him as a friend. Katsuki will say he wants to be left alone and that he dislikes his classmates, and then joins them for a class-wide musical number during the cultural festival. Further, it takes Deku literally beating a tearful confession out of him in Deku v Kacchan 2 for Katsuki to go "I have been affected by being kidnapped+witnessing a traumatic event". Katsuki's big character moment wasn't just when he pushed Deku out of the way of certain death, but it was also him saying--without crying or punching anyone--"I'm sorry". And it's a big moment because we know he's been wanting to say it for so long, but hasn't. So, no, he really doesn't say what he means that much.
Personally, I don't think the fic writers are wrong exactly. But I think it goes deeper than just saying "Katsuki speaks his mind". He sounds like he does, but really he's just saying whatever comes to his surface thoughts. If you want him to go any deeper, you'll need at least two fist fights, 300 chapters of character development, and Deku probably will need to be in the general vicinity. When he finds people annoying and he'll tell them straight up, but when he finds someone admirable, he'll push them over and call them a weenie.
Or at least that's my thoughts. And I figured I'd ask you, the Bakugou Expert (TM) if you had any thoughts on the matter too.
I think there are some separate things being conflated here when people say that. In Japan, polite speech is very roundabout. You aren't supposed to just outwardly express your opinion on things, especially depending on who you're speaking to. Hell, you're not even supposed to say "no" when you disagree or when someone is wrong, you just say something like "I think it may be a little different..." Everything revolves around not putting someone else on the spot, not offending or embarrassing someone, not causing anyone to lose face. The thing Katsuki does that I think is being commented on with "says what he means, does what he wants" is that he is confrontational in all aspects. He directly speaks his mind when social norms dictate he shouldn't. He expresses his thoughts openly when he shouldn't, particularly when his thoughts are crass or offensive.
This is part of why Katsuki is such an insanely popular character in Japan. He's doing the thing--being outspoken and up-front about his opinions--that everyone else in society wishes they could do. There are some rigid and confusing social structures in Japan that everyone has to deal with constantly but that Katsuki disregards. (That's why we have moments like Tsuyu commenting on how "wow he even behaves like this with the elderly, huh?") This comes back to tatemae and honne, which equate to "outward social persona" versus "inner self, true feelings." In most situations in Japan, the face you put on, your tatemae, is supposed to be polite and reserved. Select people close to you get to see your honne, which many would assume would be your frank, potentially offensive, honest feelings. Katsuki is a fascinating, fun character precisely because his tatemae and honne are switched: his tatemae is rude and offensive, while his honne is considerate and kind.
Now, all of that is different from the other issues at hand (such as his terrible communication skills). I think the major one you're getting at is addressed by an important nuance: Katsuki expresses himself without reservation only when he wants to. That's what this is really getting at. If he doesn't WANT to express himself, he won't. But he won't play at having some opinion he doesn't have to avoid offending someone, which I think makes sense with the above tatemae/honne discussion. Basically, it's not that he won't hide his feelings when he doesn't feel like sharing, it's that he will share his feelings when he feels like sharing--which is not something everyone else does. I hope that helps clear it up.

I was the one who asked you if you ship bakudeku, what i meant to type was WHY do you ship bakudeku? I ship bakudeku as well and i like to know why others do as well.
WHY do you ship bakudeku?
I LOVE UR ART BTW
ohh ok makes more sense!
i could sit here all day and talk about the deep intricacies behind why i ship bkdk but i feel like the bottom line is bkdk's "main rival characters with significant plot and theme relevance have a dynamic and constantly interesting relationship that never gets old or boring" factor. i have yet to watch a show that has the main protag and secondary protag be this genuinely involved with each other without a love interest character actively written to lessen the relationship's importance. (i know ochako exists but she's never in the way of bkdk, she sort of minds her own business on the side lol.) also i leveled up from klance of all ships, THE number 1 ship on tumblr's fandometrics for 2 straight years for literally no valid reason whatsoever. sometimes i like to joke that bkdk is just an evolved version of klance, which is not funny. it's a horrible joke and it's not even accurate. i ought to be ashamed of myself.
also childhood friends to enemies to rivals to friends to lovers makes my brain go brr. i'm always a bigger fan of relationships with a lot of drama and development in them, bonus points when the individuals in said relationship strongly affect each other or are narratively tied! ideally i'd want all main romantic relationships in media to be narratively important but we can't always get what we want =v=
also deku vs kacchan part 2 is art !!! the amount of times i've rewatched that episode is frankly embarrassing. its 4 year anniversary is coming up on september 15 mark ur calendars
(AND THANK U!!!)

was discussing w rat if we see aizawa’s room or office at any time, and i started looking through deku v kacchan 2 for the first scenes that came to mind. i’m inclined to believe that they are two different rooms -- but they are both in the class 1-a dorm building, and if we assume that the teachers dorm is a separate building altogether then neither can be his dorm room. the first one could be his office, but not enough of the room is shown to conclude anything, other than the fact that his tech is set up and the robot intercom thing knows to ping him at that location.
anyway here’s every angle we see of these rooms in that episode

Battle Trail Arc Dissection
Deku vs Kacchan Pt. 2
Contents:
III: Katsuki And Izuku Were Childhood Friends
IV: Rivalry?
V: Aggressive Fan Behavior Again
VI: The Affects People of Authority Have on Children
III: Katuski and Izuku were childhood friends.
As hard as it is to believe, these two actually were friends.
Tumblr media
These colors don’t mean anything in particular.
But I’m gonna separate these panels.
Red) This panel is too vague. No one’s obligated to be friends just for growing up in the same neighborhood. They always go back to the past but never far enough to explain how they became friends in the first place when they’re so different. This is either lazy writing or it’s something that we don’t have to know until later (I really hope we’re shown eventually). Also, notice how they don’t smile when it comes to each other (and continue not to for a phat minute).
Green) Izuku is the only one looking at Katsuki. He used to smile towards him and Katsuki used to not get pissed off at his presence. The other kids follow Katsuki blindly while Izuku is watching him closely. His view of him was indifferent but he admired him for his confidence as a kid, and that admiration is still there (reference to earlier when he was praising him to Ochako).
Orange) Izuku references the first page of vol. 1. This is the presentation of a systemic issue in their society. The better your quirk, the more you’re worth as a person. Which is why Izuku was called useless in his childhood. No quirk, no use. On the other end, it’s also why Katsuki has been praised almost his whole life. Awesome quirk, extremely useful. Emphasizing that people aren’t born equal in their society is also kind of telling that the people on both ends of the spectrum (quirkless->awesome quirk) are victims of the systemic issue.
IV: Rivalry?
After this vague backstory of the two, we’re back to watching Katsuki lose all his senses to the rage he’s feeling towards Izuku at the moment and Izuku reading his moves like a book. Izukus class is praising him for holding his own without using his quirk which is a big difference from what we saw from his middle school class.
At this point, neither team is actually working as a team, directly at least. Izuku is determined to prove himself but also wants to form a strategy so he can win the match. Katsuki is determined to get answers out of Izuku and, in a way, punish him for lying to him about being quirkless.
Tumblr media
Izuku realizes why Katsuki is as upset as he is and feels guilty. Izuku is someone Katsuki suddenly has to worry about (more than he already did) and he’s not fond of it but Izuku seems to feel more guilty for hiding something from him.
Izuku shows us his intelligence once again by realizing that Katsuki and Tenya aren’t working as a team and comes up with a strategy to use that to their advantage. But, Izuku let’s emotions get him again and takes back what he said in middle school.
Tumblr media
This sets the new vague rivalry in stone.
V: Aggressive Fan Behavior Again
Katsuki starts to refer to Izuku as a pebble once again and, like last time, it seems like he’s trying to convince himself of that comment and he starts to recall a bunch of memories from his childhood, including the scene with Izuku following behind him in the forest again from the last time he referred to Izuku as a pebble.
Tumblr media
No matter how much Katsuki picked on him, Izuku stayed close by. This again, is Izuku doing what he wants despite knowing the consequences. Consequences being Katsuki using him as a punching bag in order to boost his own ego. Katsuki made sure Izuku knew that he was better than him in every way despite knowing that wasn’t really true (otherwise he wouldn’t have seen him as a threat in middle school). Izuku started to see himself the way Katsuki wanted him to see himself; as useless and disposable. Hence, the birth of the nickname.
Tumblr media
Just like last time, he looks less angry and more unsure of the pebble statement. Also, why is it specifically this scene that makes him unsure? There has to be more to this scene than we’ve been showed because it’s brought up so often, right? I hope so. Horikoshi, I need answers.
Tumblr media
More quotes!
I bet he’s fine. Kacchan’s so strong: no one checks on people that appear to be strong. They’re strong so even if they’re not okay, they’re strong and can handle it. Just like with the sludge villain, he was praised for simply living. Katsuki wasn’t the only one who was negatively affected by the constant praise he received as a child. Due to his confidence and strength, everyone around him just assumes he’s okay. Even though he didn’t ask for validation, he’s being invalidated by his friend without realizing it.
I was just fine!: whether you were fine or not, why get offended when someone offers to help you up? He doesn’t want to be saved by someone he sees himself as being better than. Also I’m highlighting this because, if you think about it, we actually don’t know if he was okay. When it comes to this scene, correct me if I’m wrong but, we never see Katsuki accept or reject Izukus hand. However, it’s safe to assume he rejected it. But he could’ve twisted an ankle or something and we’d have no idea. Horikoshi made the conclusion to this scene a mystery just like the scene of them in the forest. Again, I hope we go back to it.
Need help? Can you stand?: another core memory like from the beginning. Izuku being Izuku and being far too kind to someone who gives him the opposite.
Why’d he have to look at me like that?: How dare Izuku look down on Katsuki? How dare he assume Katsuki can’t get up on his own? This kind boy who was worried for his friend needs to be put in his place!
You looked like you needed saving: Katsuki is comparing the river incident to the sludge villain incident. Even though only one of them, his life was actually in danger. Izuku lent out a hand no matter how big or small the problem looked and Katsuki took it as Izuku looking down on him.
But I’m better than him: this is goin back to the “if I can’t save myself I’d rather not be saved at all” attitude. He’s striving to be better than the best and he’s mainly questioning why someone he saw as physically weaker than him was able to save him but he wasn’t able to save himself.
This scene changed the way Katsuki viewed Izuku. Before, he was just someone Katsuki could bounce his insecurities off of with no consequence. After this scene happened he saw Izuku as someone who looked down on him despite being weaker than him and being quirkless. He started to think that Izuku thought he was better than Katsuki. So yeah, this shitshow started from a misunderstanding amongst two 4 year olds…
VI: The Affects People of Authority have on Children
Tumblr media
This goes back to that systemic issue that only Izuku seemed to notice. Katsukis ego is a beach ball and their society pumped so much air into it that it burst (he eventually starts to pick up the pieces and tries to mend the beach ball later on though and this arc is the first step of doing that). He receives praise from adults and peers and he’s convinced himself that he’s better than everyone else because of his quirk, because that’s what he’s been told. Because in their society, the better your quirk, the more useful you are. It determines your worth. On the other side of the same coin, Izukus self confidence is also a beach ball but society didn’t even offer him a pump. If anything, holes were poked in his beach ball so he was unable to even try to blow it up himself (until All Might, his classmates, and his mother offered tape to help fix the ball and pump air into it slowly so it doesn’t break again… I like this analogy, sorry). Either way, both beach balls have been ruined for a majority of both of their lives. Even though it’s a little bit harder to see from Katsukis side, they’re both victims of this systemic issue. And this is when Katsuki started to use Izukus quirklessness as ammunition to justify his resentment and amplify his on going harassment.

Of all the students of class 1A which ones do you think volume 4 Ruby would be able to defeat in a serious fight?
I'm assuming this is RiMH!Ruby and not Canon!Ruby.
But... 🤔 💭
That's... actually a pretty good question. Technically speaking, Ruby's defeated two of her classmates prior during the Sports Festival -- Mina and Tokoyami. Don't know if those count as serious fights, though.
This is all assuming Ruby's able to fight her friends seriously without the issue she has of... you know. Not wanting to hurt her friends, which I know is gonna be an issue later but yeah.
...thinking about it seriously...
Ruby would actually give a majority of her classmates the run-around if she was fighting them seriously. V4 Ruby's got a few tricks up her sleeves.
That said, Midoriya, Bakugo, Todoroki and Iida are some of those I can see besting her definitely. The first two... Deku v. Kacchan 2 is enough of an example. Todoroki can freeze Ruby like he did Iida in the Sports Festival and Iida's on par with her speed without the stamina drawback.

Q: Is there a specific moment in the series regarding Bakugo Katsuki that sticks out in your mind for any reason?

Which of your own fics is your favorite?
Hmmm…hope it’s okay if I list a few of them, I can’t pick a top fave 😅
The first MHA fic i ever wrote, can i be enough? (we’ll be more than enough), has a special place in my heart - Bakugou and Deku’s relationship throughout the series is one of my favorite things about it, so I had to write something about it around the changes they were going through after Deku v Kacchan 2. Something about them picking up the pieces of something that had been completely shattered while they work to become better versions of themselves and reworking those pieces into something new is just so appealing to me :D
There’s also the first krbk fic I wrote, Like - fun fact about this one: I hadn’t initially planned to ever write a krbk fic even if I did love the ship, I just didn’t have any decent ideas to write for them. But then there was one morning I woke up at like 6am and couldn’t fall back asleep, and I thought of the first few paragraphs and just started writing in the notes on my phone. It was super spur-of-the-moment, but it still makes me super happy whenever I think about it, and it recently hit 300 kudos which is super cool!! Never thought that many people would ever read my work, it’s crazy 🥺
And I’m a sucker for fluff so I gotta add my fluffiest fic ever, Safe and Warm In Your Arms - it’s 2.2k words of soft krbk and it’s super adorable, still gives me the warm fuzzies even though I wrote it 🥰
Thanks for the question anon! And thanks for letting me ramble for a bit 😂

BNHA Ch. 404 initial thoughts
Honestly, the "wishing energy" thing is giving "thoughts and prayers" vibes and it's super unnecessary. I mean, sure it's nice to imagine that if everyone believes hard enough, things will turn out okay but if those people are still just waiting for someone else to save the day, it ultimately undermines the efforts of the people who actually take action.
I get that Horikoshi was trying to explain why Nighteye's vision didn't come true but there were other ways to do it that would have been more meaningful without taking away from Katsuki's moment.
Plus, what happened to the thing after Ochako's speech where people were like "oh sh*t we've been relying on heroes too much we should step up and do something to help."
That being said, I did really love the connection with Izuku, their teamwork that allowed Katsuki to get to All Might, and the way it paralleled and their previous fights and brought things full circle. The callback to Deku v. Kacchan 2 and the "why was I the one who ended All Might" moment was predictable but it still good.
I'm really looking forward to the official release so I can see the art in high quality.
But my big question that no one seems to be talking about is: did Katsuki just blow off both of AFO's arms while he was rescuing All Might? (and will he magically regrow them when he turns into a kindergartener?)
