This is gonna be one of the weirder Asks you get, but I hope it goes with the territory: I had a very important worldbuilding session last night while tripping on edibles, but I forgot it because I was tripping on edibles. My dude did I just see you do tags as to the idea that cooking helps ORAS?? Because I have some allergen stuff going on and I am interested in getting into cooking, I am FASCINATED

It depends strongly on the specific allergen (not every problem protein is broken down by cooking temps/edible acid levels), but yes! Tomatoes are one where the allergen may break down in heat—I can eat ketchup and other tomato-based sauces just fine (though I am not a fan of cooked tomato as a primary flavor, it's at least edible), but raw tomatoes make my mouth feel like it's full of angry bees. Which, like, cherry tomatoes used to be one of my favorite snacks so you can imagine how I feel about this.

Definitely always do a small-scale test first before committing, but if you can't eat something raw you could very well be able to eat it cooked.

I think a lot of companies are gonna find it real, real hard to put the genie back in the bottle when it comes to accessibility. I have the right to be excited by that, even if things suck, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE things suck. We’re all fighting one way or another.

excellent addition. this situation affects different people in different ways. we can grieve a tragedy while also staying hopeful that the fallout will bring the change our societies so desperately need. not least of all because this change will also help us prevent something like this from happening again.

From that, I’m suspecting he was lucky and it was only the nail, and that could grow back fine. It’s just... running a bunch of searches immediately after it happened (because, you know, he’s my first baby and I wanted to make sure I knew the proper way to take care of it because the bleeding was surprisingly substantial for about a minute after it happened) turned up a lot of contradictory information... and amidst that, there were more people saying that nails couldn’t grow back than there were people saying they could.

One of my biggest beefs with trying to get information online, lol. Lots of self-proclaimed ‘experts’ spreading misinformation and getting angry when people say otherwise, and very little way to verify credibility beyond looking for trends in answers, which could also be wrong.

I’m just glad the bleeding stopped quickly after the initial panic. Might invest in a moss hide; he hasn’t needed it before, but it probably wouldn’t hurt. He’s just a little less meticulous about his hind toes compared to Shin (her toes only got some stuck shed once, and even then, sometimes I’ll notice she has skin left on her toes but if I leave her for a couple days she manages to get ‘em off by herself), and the humidity in their enclosures is the same.

ok well lets start with madge cuz ho boy.

Madges day job... well, perhaps first I should preface: madge is from an advanced alien race called Keets. (original name, I know, but they were originally based off of parakeets!) their homeworld is extremely uptight prudish and generally resembles an advanced early christian society, with mandatory head coverings and everything. their society is actually genderless, being utterly hermaphroditic with no visible sex characteristics, other than a social presentation and pronouns. madge falls in the Masc category likewise. (here are some sketchy wips i grabbed from my sai, i havent even colored em yet)

Madge was the youngest of 5, a runt with unruly colors, feathers, *everything*, and the “black sheep” of his family. he hated his culture, society, everything; he was a wealthy child and spoiled even still, but socially, it was abysmal. Im currently working on a big project for his origin story in his verse, but long story short, he ran away from home, this naive rich boy with a handful of his cousins, meets some friends along the way, and becomes an intergalactic criminal with his family and friends that soon become his crew. 

(^^ This is why you dont trust cousins with where your clothes go at an intergalactic spa. Also to note; Madges design was recently refreshed, his markings are much more distinct and his face and body have been refined. His color palette was also tweaked!)

with a new taste for even greater wealth and a head too big for his young shoulders, he eventually finds his way into a tavern, where he meets a deep space cuthulu pirate cpatain, joins his crew and becomes his 3d in command, becomes his intelligence agent, and, eventually, mr deep sea cuthulu space pirate and him get together and among being spoiled by all sorts of glittery wonderful things, as birds love, they eventually have a half-cuthulu daughter hwo is *spoiled*.

^^ look at her being a little pirate warlord, commanding her fathers crew!!! also, the above two pieces i did not draw.) so: Day job, pirate, sleeping position..... he curls up into a lil ball a lot, or sleeps on the closest warmth source, usually other people. hes p tactile. and fav season.... his home planet is mostly a water world with plateaus and cliffs, and warm weather most of the time, so id say summer. Birbs hate the cold!

Please spill on Tailchaser's Song when you get a chance, you were the one to get me into Digger and I trust your Animals In Societies opinions INNATELY for this 🙏🦎🧙‍♂️

With the caveat that it's been a bit since I've reread it and I can't find my copy, Tailchaser's Song is a book about feral cat societies that is also partially inspired by Lord of the Rings (it really shows when they enter the cat queen's court).

It follows the titular Tailchaser as he goes off on a quest to find a cat buddy who vanished when her humans moved, and ends with him helping avert the apocalypse because of earlier kindness. This is a less sudden turn than I make it seem, the book does a good job setting up for cat satan appearing, but I want to emphasize that for all that this book starts in modern-when-written suburbia as processed through the lens of Narrator Is A Housecat it does take a turn for fantasy and the small fantasy elements earlier on are not red herrings.

There's some quirks due to when it was written (it was the author's first published book, iirc) and if conlanging or a scene with discussion between cats of cat perspective of neutering pets is offputting for an animal novel I would be more reluctant to recommend it (the former is more constant, the latter is just one scene plus some implications nearer the end). There is also a lot of animal violence/death (as is typical for these things tbh), Tailchaser gets drunk off his ass on catnip once, and one of the side characters (Eatbugs, I think his name is) is written as having pretty severe kitty dementia and I don't remember enough of the writing to say how it was handled.

Other changes are that I am allowed to use whichever bathroom my gender presentation aligns with, AND I will no longer have to fight for FMLA approval for medical leave after top surgery!
