Pls, pls, pls I need more WLW book recommendations!!!
Adults, YA, spicy, soft, I don’t care. I just need wlw books because I want to switch from fanfics only to actual books as well
Okay, here we are, enjoy :)
Bright Falls Series by Ashley Herring Blake: 1. Delilah Green Doesn't Care -> Delilah Green swore she would never go back to Bright Falls - nothing is there for her except memories of a lonely childhood - but when Delilah's stepsister pressures her into photographing her wedding with a guilt trip and a large check, Delilah finds herself back in Bright Falls once more. She plans to breeze in and out, but then she sees Claire Sutherland, one of Astrid's stuck-up besties, and decides that maybe there's some fun (and a little retribution) to be had, after all. 2. Astrid Parker Doesn't Fail -> For Astrid Parker failure is unacceptable. When Pru Everwood asks her to be the designer for the Everwood Inn's renovation, which will be featured on a hugely popular home makeover show, Astrid is thrilled. However, Astrid never planned on Jordan Everwood, Pru's granddaughter and the lead carpenter for the renovation, who despises every modern design decision Astrid makes. Is she going to pursue the life that she's expected to lead or the one that she really wants? 3. Iris Kelly doesn't date -> Everyone around Iris Kelly is in love and she’s happy for all of them, truly. Iris doesn’t want any of that—dating, love, romance. She’ll stick to her commitment-free hookups. There’s only one problem—Iris is a romance author facing an imminent deadline for her second book, and she’s completely out of ideas. Perfectly happy to ignore her problems as per usual, Iris goes to a bar and meets a sexy stranger, Stefania, and a night of dancing and making out turns into the worst one-night stand Iris has had in her life. To get her mind off everything, Iris tries out for the lead role in a local play, a queer retelling of Much Ado About Nothing, but comes face-to-face with Stefania, whose real name turns out to be Stevie. Desperate to save face in front of her friends, Stevie asks Iris to play along as her girlfriend. Iris is shocked, but when she realizes the arrangement might provide her with some much-needed romantic content for her book, she agrees. As the two women play the part of a happy couple, lines start to blur.
Falls from grace by Ruby Landers -> Savannah Grace and her band were huge stars in Nashville. Now enlists Noah Lyman - an indie musician - to help her break out of country music and make a name for herself for once and for all. They have to spend the winter in Savannah secluded vacation home in the woods of Vermont, and Noah brings along his best friend Brynn Marshall and pretend she’s his wife? After all, what could possibly go wrong?
The secret of you and me by Melissa Lenhardt -> Nora hasn’t looked back. Not since she fled Texas to start a new life. Now she can live—and love—however she wants. The only problem is that she also left behind the one woman she can’t forget. Now tragedy calls her back home to confront her past—and reconcile her future.
Books by Haley Cass: - Those Who Wait and the follow-up Forever and A Day -> Spencer Sutton, the daughter of a congressman, and Charlotte Thompson, New York City’s youngest deputy mayor, meet on SapphicSpark, a women-seeking-women dating app. Sutton isn’t built for casual, and Charlotte needs to keep a low profile as the race heats up. In spite of that, a friendship blossoms as Charlotte helps Sutton navigate the dating world. - Down to A Science -> Ellie Beckett is a scientific genius finishing a Ph.D. at MIT, sitting on her stool at her favorite bar, putting the final touches on her thesis - her life is predictable and comfortable enough, until the night Mia Sharpe walks in to play pool with some friends and things are never the same again. and On the same Page -> Riley Beckett met Gianna Mäkinen their first year at Boston University, and it changed everything for the both of them. She knows Gianna doesn't do romance or relationships, and she knows nothing could ever come between them. But when a holiday party mix-up sets in motion a domino effect of changes, Riley has to question everything she thought she knew about their relationship. What, exactly, does Gianna mean to her after all? - In the Long Run -> Taylor Vandenberg is busy running a successful travel blog. Brooke Watson and Taylor’s younger brother have been best friends for the majority of their lives. It means that even if Taylor isn’t physically present, she’s always been a part of Brooke’s most monumental life experiences. When Taylor lands back in Faircombe for an extended stay, it leads to more run-ins than Brooke would like. And more feelings than either may want to admit. - When You Least Expect It & Better Than Expected (I haven't had a chance to read them yet, but I have seen them recommended a lot)
If tomorrow doesn't come by Jen St. Jude -> On the morning Avery Byrne plans to end her life, the world discovers there are only nine days left to live: an asteroid is headed for Earth, and no one can stop it. As time runs out and secrets slowly come to light, Avery fights her way home to save the girl she has been in love with her whole life. But can Avery also learn to save herself and find hope again in the tomorrows she has left?
Kiss her once for me by Alison Cochrun -> Ellie had a Christmas Eve meet-cute with a woman at a bookstore that led her to fall in love over the course of a single night. The next year, Andrew, the shop’s landlord where Ellie works, proposes a shocking, drunken plan: a marriage of convenience that will benefit both of them. They make a plan to spend the holidays together at his family cabin to keep up the ruse. But when Andrew introduces his new fiancée to his sister, Ellie is shocked to discover is the mysterious woman she fell for over the year before.
6 times we almost kissed (and one time we did) by Tess Sharpe -> Penny and Tate keep almost kissing. It’s just this confusing thing that keeps happening. You know, from time to time. For basically their entire teenaged existence.  They’ve never talked about it. They’ve always ignored it in the aftermath. But now they’re living across the hall from each other. And some things—like their kisses—can’t be almosts forever.
Nottingham: the true story of Robin Hood by Anna Burke -> (A retelling of Robin Hood's story with a Female Robin and wlw couples) After a fateful hunting accident sends her on the run from the law, Robyn finds herself deep in the heart of Sherwood Forest. All she really wants to do is provide for her family and stay out of trouble, but when the Sheriff of Nottingham levies the largest tax in the history of England, she’s forced to take matters into her own hands. Relying on the help of her band of merry women and the Sheriff’s intriguing—and off limits—daughter, Marian, Robyn must find a way to pull off the biggest heist Sherwood has ever seen.
Forget me not by Alyson Derrick -> Stevie has a terrible fall. And when she comes to, she can remember nothing of the last two years—not California, not coming to terms with her sexuality, not even her girlfriend Nora. Suddenly, Stevie finds herself in a life she doesn’t quite understand. And Nora finds herself…forgotten.
It goes like this by Miel Moreland -> Eva, Celeste, Gina, and Steph used to play in world-famous queer pop band called Moonlight Overthrow. But after a sudden falling out leads to the dissolution of the teens' band, their friendship, and Eva and Celeste's starry-eyed romance, nothing is the same. Until a storm devastates their hometown, bringing the four ex-best-friends back together. As they prepare for one last show, they'll discover whether growing up always means growing apart.
Dominion Series by J J Arias: 1. Losing Control  -> Talent agent Adriana Ortiz’s world is rocked when she’s thrust into the tumultuous orbit of Roxy, the raw, enigmatic pop rebel with a notorious edge and a guarded heart. Tasked with steering the wild Roxy on a whirlwind tour, Adriana boards Roxy’s opulent tour bus. The nights are filled with roaring crowds, but it’s the electric tension between Roxy and Adriana that sets the air on fire. A forbidden connection that threatens to consume them. Is the wild, unbridled Roxy worth the risk to Adriana’s career, or is she just another woman falling victim to Roxy’s charms? 2. Fighting for Control  -> Lola Barros is a rising talent agent burning with ambition. Carmen Vargas is a dedicated lawyer poised to conquer the legal field. Their shared high-rise is the only thing these two powerhouses have in common. After a trivial parking mishap snowballs onto a full-blown feud, Lola and Carmen are thrust into unconventional anger management sessions and their fiery rivalry gives way to smoldering desire. But yielding to desire isn't straightforward. Between the shadows of demanding careers and familial expectations, their love is tested. Can Lola and Carmen find a balance between ambition and affection? 3. Relinquishing Control  -> Natalia Flores rules her exclusive talent agency with an iron fist, brokering blockbuster deals while keeping everyone at arm’s length. But beneath the cold exterior lies a heart that yearns to be understood. Enter Professor Samantha Reyes—brilliant, fierce, and unwilling to let Natalia manipulate her way into the film rights to her book. Their encounters spark with tension and undeniable chemistry. In a world where control is everything, can two powerful women let go of their fears to find a love that’s worth the risk?
11:59 by Erica Lee -> TJ Edmonds has created a whole brand around not getting attached to other people. She has a best-selling novel and a popular phone app both dedicated to helping people stay detached from their significant others, so they don't get hurt. But the only reason she can move on so quickly now is because she still hasn't let go of someone from her past. It's easy to guard her heart when she no longer has it to give away. TJ texts Brooke everyday at 11:59 pm with no answers. What happens when, in a moment of weakness, this someone reaches out to TJ?
Price and Prejudice and the city by Rachel Lippincott -> Seventeen-year-old Audrey Cameron has lost her spark. After an embarrassing run-in with her ex-boyfriend, she’s told that she needs to get back out there and take risks. What she doesn't expect is to be transported to Regency England! Lucy Sinclair has her own problems when Audrey lands into her life, claiming to be from two hundred years in the future, it's a welcome distraction.
Never ever getting back together by Sophie Gonzales -> Maya and Skye are invited to star on the reality dating show Second-Chance Romance, to compete for their now famous ex-boyfriend's affections while the whole world watches. Skye wonders if she and Jordy can recapture the spark she knows they had, but Maya has other plans.
The art of us by KL Hughes -> Charlee and Alex fell in love at nineteen and dated for four years. Theirs was an enviable love — evergreen and growing. Unbreakable…Until it broke. Alex’s job now brings her back to Boston, after five years. When, by chance, they meet again, Charlee and Alex are swept up in a whirlwind of heart-rending history, tossed between past and present, and lovers old and new. Will their lingering connection be enough to convince them that some loves are meant to last? Or should the past remain in the past?
That secret something by Emily Wright -> Rebecca Lawson is off-limits. Jess knows this, but Rebecca has captured her heart for as long as she can remember. She’s sporty, tall and confident—all the things Jess is not—but most of all…she’s her best friend Lily’s sister. But when Jess and Rebecca are forced to spend time together the forbidden feelings intensify and sparks begin to fly. Amidst the chaos of raging bridezillas and other wedding disasters, can Jess resist temptation for the sake of her friendship?
The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid  -> Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. Summoned to Evelyn's luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the '80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way
That summer feeling by Bridget Morrissey -> Turns out you're never too old for a summer camp romance. Or a change of heart. When a divorced woman attends a sleepaway camp for adults only, she reconnects with a man from her past - only to catch feelings for his sister instead.
Some of these are my absolute favourites, I've lost count of how many times I've read them. I cannot get enough of "the bright falls series", "One the same page", "Those who wait", "The secret of you and me" and the last entry "Falls From Grace". No matter how many times I read them. And sometimes I wish I could read them again, as if for the first time, if that makes sense. Anyway, I have a lot more titles. Let me know if you want them or not. Enjoy the reading

i have this silly little image in my head of lila going back to the captain’s quarters after a night with the crew, all drunk and giggly like she was in acol, and climbing into kell’s lap and attempting to kiss every single one of his freckles. kell just accepts his fate and let’s her kiss his face 983838 times.

Summer wine subtext? Summer wine subtext.
The Kellila "fight" scene where they break the summer wine bottle in Threads makes me think about the song "Summer Wine" because well, of the association with the title, but not only that. You may have heard Lana's rendition but the original is from the 60's and it's by Nancy Sinatra and I don't know, it just fits the mood and it might've inspired that? I can't unsee it now. lol. Because the summer wine this song is about isn't just *literal* wine, but also refers to the woman's body in the song. That song has sexual overtones and it's about two people who are two thieves/outlaws who are drinking together. They end up in bed but the woman only wants to steal the man's belongings by offering him her "summer wine" so he would be knocked out while she robs him. He then wakes up the day after and he realizes she is gone with all of his money but he would still want to be with her. Well... isn't also how Kell and Lila's first encounter went??? More or less, at least. Meeting while he was covered in blood (red as wine) and quite dazed and Lila stealing the black stone. Then tying him to her bed once he appeared out of the blue and stealing the stone back. And the same thing is true for the hand-to-hand in the hull in Threads. Kell catches Lila off guard, and he ends up on the top of her and she tells him to get off her unless he wants to "have a tumble" (which makes him turn red). These two love challenging each other like this and they also have fun doing so, because it spices up their relationship. So yeah. The summer wine might be a sexual subtext just like the fake melee was subtle foreplay.
Least but not last, some summer wine is bright red or orange/rosé. The summer wine could also be a nod to Kell's hair and Lila passes her summer wine stained hand through his hair before they leave the hull (!!!).
And well, I just love this side of them??? The playfulness??? Being comfortable around each other??? Having a spicy bedroom life??? Adoring each other from the tips of their hair to the tips of their feet???
They make me unwell. I just love them so much.

So fun fact about rerooting rainbow high dolls. Their heads are a lot thicker/harder than a regular Barbie doll head so you have to keep repeatedly, heating them before sticking the needle in or your needle will break. I have broken several rerooting needles because of this And yesterday I was in the middle of working on one of my dolls when my last one broke and shimmer locks is on vacation so I have to wait until Friday before I can order more. I have some size 3, but size 3 is just a little too big for what I’m trying to do when I really need a size 5.
and for some reason some of the doll heads are harder to keep soft than others. like for instance, I had some trouble with Rexis head before I figured out what I was doing then I started working on a Delilah and she has been much easier to work with. I also did a little bit of rerooting on a Simone and she wasn’t too bad however I’m currently working on Hali and River and their heads seem to be much harder and it was actually Rivers head that broke my needle so you know it’s been interesting.
Good news is I finished all of the rerooting on Delilah and Simone so now it’s just painting and styling
Also, my older sister has informed me that my work table full of headless dolls, and my rerooting of dolls is in fact, vaguely creepy I don’t know why she feels that way, but she thinks it’s scary. Similarly one of my other sisters has decided that dolls with no eyes in them are also terrifying, I had taken the eyes out of one because I wanted to swap the eyelashes with a different one and every time she walked by my table she literally jumped this girls in her 20s she’s not a little kid

BOOKS I READ IN Q1 2022
(with ratings, opinions, and certainly spoilers)
Tumblr media
1. The Love Hypothesis (5⭐)
Adam is the best book boyfriend ever, Olive is so relatable and sweet! Fake Dating is probably my favorite trope, and it's written so well that I felt like it was me falling in love with my professor! The scenes where they were alone, talking from their hearts, are so nice! The PDA is so exhilarating and the spice is amazing! Adam handled the conflict in the end so beautifully and protective! I'm so in love with him!
“If you say another word about the woman I love, if you look at her, if you even think about her - I’m going to fucking kill you.”
2. People We Meet On Vacation (5⭐)
Falling in love with a best friend is honestly my ideal scenario in real life! Alex is amazing, and we can feel his love for Poppy since the first time we see them! Their relationship is amazing, and I'm in love with it! There is a scene of him taking care of her while she's sick... and I cannot even begin to explain how much this makes me giggly and in love! I could not stop smiling the whole time I was reading this book, I felt so seen and loved! Amazing experience!
“I don't think I knew I was lonely until I met you.”
3. A Not So Meet Cute (5⭐)
Enemies to lovers is top tier, there's no denying it! Huxley and Lottie begin their relationship with a mutual interest agreement, she needs money and he needs a fake fiancée! Reading them living this fake relationship, while feelings grow on dual POV is *chef's kiss*! I also want a rich husband to take care of me, and to do the things Hux does to Lottie, I'm not gonna say anything further.
“Eyes trained on mine, he brings my hand to his mouth, places a soft kiss on my knuckles, and then breaks our connection as he backs away.”
4. The Hating Game (5⭐)
I never thought I'd enjoy an office romance, but this one is a Rivals to Lovers romance! Joshua is a dream partner, and the banter with Lucy is immaculate! I genuinely laughed out loud several times reading this book! Also, it has the best first kiss ever! Not to mention he takes care of her while she’s sick and this situation is my soft spot! There are people who might say Josh is a walking red flag, but to be honest, red is my favorite color! Please, I just want a man who loves me so much that he paints his bedroom wall the same color as my eyes, and who keeps every single piece of paper I ever gave to him!
“The first smile Joshua’s ever had in my presence is pressed against my lips.”
Tumblr media
5. Beach Read (4,7⭐)
I guess the main subject of this book can be interpreted as romance, but for me was so much more important on the grief and missing someone you love! It is the only book that made me cry this year. The story is beautiful and sad, but also comforting and peaceful. The author had so much sensitivity while approaching the subject of hurt towards someone who’s not in your life anymore, and how to deal with conflicted feelings, like love and betrayal. The romance part of it is really cute, Augustus is so supportive of January and they feel complete together, even when they started their dynamic as rivals in college.
“I wished I could stay in an emotional cryogenic chamber that would allow me to sleep through the worst of whatever heartbreak I was avoiding.”
6. The Spanish Love Deception (4,7⭐)
This book’s an office romance, and an enemies to lovers one! Mr. Aaron Blackford is a dream, I cannot even begin to describe him! The man bakes his own granola bars, for god’s sake! He takes care of Catalina when she passes out from not eating, and helps her with her work! Although I had some difficulty liking Lina, she became a lot more enjoyable once their agreement was settled. Great book, great romance! I’ve seen people complaining about the duration of the wedding, but it was just perfect for me!
“I’ll give you the world,” he said against my mouth. “The moon. The fucking stars. Anything you ask, it’s yours. I’m yours.”
7. It Happened One Summer (4,7⭐)
I was not expecting a book with such a cute cover to have the best spice I’ve ever read! Brendan is a great man, and he treats Piper with so much care and love! The journey Piper goes through is great to read, it is emotional and comforting, and the outcome is so cute! The miscommunication trope is a bit strong in this book, but the solution is satisfactory enough!
“Your daughter will always have a place in my heart. But Piper owns that heart. She came here and robbed me blind of it.”
8. Hook, Line, and Sinker (4,7⭐)
Just for starts, it is amazing to read this story with snippets of Piper and Brendan’s life, they are so cute together! But back with this book’s plot, I really enjoyed it. Fox’s so cute in love, and insecure a scared, and Hannah knows how to break his emotional walls so well. I love the relationship they build from the friendship they previously had, it felt so real and natural! But besides the great story, the author gave us an amazing epilogue where we see both sisters with their lovers and children, it felt so complete and comforting!
“Fox, listen to me. I don’t care how many different beds you’ve been in. I know you belong in mine.”
Tumblr media
9. Promises and Pomegranates (4,7⭐)
So… as I’ve stated before, my favorite color is red… right? This book screams “red flag!” all over it, but I loved every single moment of it! It also showed me things about myself that I had never even though about! The spice is pretty, pretty nice, and the overall plot is interesting enough! Kal’s extremely hot while being violent (don’t judge me!) and I felt exactly like Elena, I’m sure.
“Without her, I feel like one half of a soul, existing aimlessly, waiting for the earth to reclaim me the way I have so many others.”
10. The Kiss Quotient (4,7⭐)
I can’t even begin to explain how much I relate to Stella! This book put questions about autism in my head, not gonna lie! Their romance is so enticing and loving, he’s so delicate with her, treats her like a princess and sew clothes for her, and is so careful! Michael’s the perfect man, he has my heart! Really cute book, with great characters, and overall lovely!
“She didn’t know how to be semi-interested in something. She was either indifferent . . . or obsessed.”
11. Fix Her Up (4,6⭐)
The struggle of being the youngest of the family is really relatable, and Georgie express the feel immaculately, the frustration of not being taken serious or treated like an adult! Travis is a bit annoying, but not in a bad way… it’s part of his character, the jock! The romance is good, the spice is nice, and the resolution of the conflict is cute! Not the way I’d particularly want to be proposed to, but cute nonetheless!
“I’ve met het twice in my life. This time, I was smart enough to fall in love with her.”
12. Delilah Green Doesn't Care (4,6⭐)
Sapphic romance with a single mom! I didn’t thought I’d enjoy it so much! Delilah is the typical brunette character who’s grumpy and hurt, my favorite! The way she begins to develop feelings for Claire almost instantly is really cute. The resolution of the conflict with Delilah’s sister is so good, so heartfelt. The author was really sensitive telling this story, it’s heartwarming and wholesome!
“I’m putting you first, Claire. In case you couldn’t tell, that’s what’s happening here.”
Tumblr media
13. Spoiler Alert (4,5⭐)
This story hits close to home for me, being a fat woman who consumes things with an unhealthy obsession! The romance in it is very appealing, it made me imagine myself falling in love with Jensen Ackles… (I’m not proud of it, I know he’s happily married!) Having this in mind, I can say that I don’t really agree with the proportion the conflict between the main couple took. I’d trust Marcus with my life, and April eventually got there with me. It’s a cute story, filled with love and devotion!
“He’d give her love because she deserved it, and because he couldn’t help it.”
14. The Unhoneymooners (4,2⭐)
I’m gonna start by saying that this book had everything to be a five star reading, but Ethan’s behavior towards his brother's assault accusation… I can’t! The way he handled the information, and belittled his girlfriend? It is a great story till this point. The banter is exceptional, the tension during the beginning of the trip, the snowballing of lies, everything is immaculate! But I can’t get over his actions, neither Olive’s decision to forgive him.
“It's so exhausting pretending to hate you.”
15. Tipping the Velvet (4⭐)
The story of a 19th century lesbian who fell in love with an actress, and struggles with her gender? That could be me in a past life! Nan’s journey from the moment she met Kitty, to the moment she really found love with Flo is so hard, so sad, so tragic and filled with suffering! The outcome is good, she does get a happy ending, but the struggles were too much for me, it took me a long time to finish this book… it was an experience… but I did not dislike it!
“But there was something very appealing about that Fe-Male. I saw myself in it - in the hyphen.”
Tumblr media
16. A Court of Thorns and Roses (4,5⭐)
What a rollercoaster! This story is so full of things, a bunch of different vibes all over! Feyre has a hate and fear of Tamlin, which later becomes love and devotion (I would’ve fallen in love with Lucien, tho) and it’s so intense! Amarantha is such a bitch, but Rhys was kinda hot making Tamlin and Lucien kneel for him. Under the mountain was traumatic for me, but the ending was satisfactory! And Feyre got a sick tattoo! Nice!
"Because I'd want someone to hold my hand until the end, and awhile after that. That's something everyone deserves, human or faerie.”
17. A Court of Mist and Fury (5⭐)
WTF Tamlin??? I loved you!!! Rhys is the best thing that ever happened to Feyre (and to me, tbh) and their bond is so fun to read about! Their mind dialogue is unmatched! This is the best fantasy book I’ve read so far, the plotting with the mortal queens, and the conflict with the king at the end *chef’s kiss*! I love everyone on the Inner Circle, and Velaris is my dream home! Also, I’ve never shipped a couple so much before, I feel like the Suriel!
"You are my salvation, Feyre!”
18. A Court of Wings and Ruin (4,7⭐)
I’m not fan of battle scenes, but this book is immaculate! I felt the tension every time they were fighting! Feyre being a spy and destroying Tamlin’s court is everything I’ve ever wanted to see! The sisters fighting alongside the Inner Circle is amazing, and their father’s death is so sad! Overall this book is amazing, and emotional, I love it! Nothing but respect for my High Lady and my High Lord!
“I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have... the wait was worth it.”
19. A Court of Frost and Starlight (4,7⭐)
This book feels like a reward for all the traumatic experiences I’ve survived on the last three books! I loved it! The dynamic of the Inner Circle is amazing to read, their lives getting back on track and the beginning of planning for permanent peace of all courts! A fun read, like a rainbow after a storm!
“You were meant to be at my side from the very beginning.”
20. A Court of Silver Flames (4,9⭐)
CASSIAN!!! I can’t begin this with anything else, besides stating that Cassian has me on a chokehold, what a male!!! Nesta is my favorite Archeron sister, I relate to her in a spiritual level! Well, anyway, this book is amazing. Nesta’s trauma and the way she has to learn how to live with it is so inspiring, so sad and difficult, but so real! The spice in this book is amazing, one of the best I’ve ever read! But also, the romance is amazing, the friendships and pure love are so sensitive and wholesome!
“Music was no longer the most beautiful thing in existence. He was.”
Tumblr media
21. Throne of Glass (4,4⭐)
Celaena is the best main character I’ve read in my life, she’s so unapologetic rude and confident… I love a good assassin! The premise of this book is quite interesting, and it has a bit of romance in it too! I shipped the wrong couple, tho. The violence is a bit explicit and dark, but it makes sense in the context of the story, which has a good conclusion and enough of space to speculation for where the story is heading to.
“I never intended to escape.”
22. Crown of Midnight (4,6⭐)
This book is much more entertaining than the last one, the story is more personal and I felt a lot more connected to the characters! I don’t usually cry while reading, but I’m not gonna lie, my eyes got a bit wet when Fleetfoot was waiting for Nehemia. I do not like the couple Celaena and Chaol, I just can’t feel anything besides friendship between them! Celaena is fae!!! Celaena is Aelin!!! What a great ending, a great way to keep me curious and excited for the next one!
“Everyone sounded the same when they died.”

My goal during pride month was to post solely about LGBTQ+ books throughout the month but that didn’t end up happening. Thankfully, pride isn’t for just a month so I still plan to share plenty of LGBTQ+ titles with you, starting now.
wlw historical fiction:
Tumblr media
Carol (formerly titled The Price of Salt) by Patricia Highsmith: It’s not one of my favorites but I’m glad I read this book as it’s one of the classics for the LGBTQ genre and it’s based off the author’s own life. In the book, Therese begins to realize her lesbian identity when she meets Carol, who struggles to keep custody of her daughter as a queer woman in 1950s USA. TW: blackmail
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: I expected to like this book but I underestimated just how much because when I finished it I literally gasped and said, “wow…that was such a good book… amazing”. I fell in love with it and I immediately knew I’d have to get my own physical copy for keeps. In the book, Monique struggles with her divorce and her career as a journalist. She wants to make a name for herself and the opportunity arises when Evelyn Hugo, an actress from Hollywood’s golden age, requests an interview with her and only her. Monique is confounded because until then, Evelyn’s had a reputation for being recluse and refusing to speak with the press. During the interview, Monique learns about Evelyn’s seven husbands, her bisexual awakening, and even something about herself. TW: domestic violence/domestic abuse, alcohol abuse/drug abuse, misogyny/sexism, sexual harassment/sexual assault, death/grief, homophobia/queermisia, threatened outing/forced outing, blackmail/manipulation
Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo: This book was real and beautiful. I had to buy a physical copy to add to my bookshelf. The story follows a Chinese American teenage girl living in 1950s Chinatown San Francisco as she discovers her lesbian identity and dreams of a future in the space program. It tackles family trauma, lost friendships, stereotypes, and the struggles of the queer community in 1950s USA. This book is a must-read, go check it out. TW: homophobia/lesbophobia, queermisia, racism/xenophobia, deportation/threat of deportation, death/loss

She Drives Me Crazy by Kelly Quindlen: I’m not crazy about this book (sorry, I had to). The story follows Scottie, a high school basketball player struggling to get over her ex, who she just loses the first game of the season to. When Scottie feels like things can’t get worse for her she gets into a fender bender with the head cheerleader, Irene, in the school parking lot. Now she must give Irene lifts until her car is repaired and, oh yeah, did I forget to mention they can’t stand each other? Despite the fact, Scottie comes up with a plan to make her ex jealous and get her back: pretend to date Irene. Warning: stop reading if you don’t want spoilers! This book was ok, I didn’t dislike it but I just couldn’t fall in love with it. It follows the enemies-to-lovers trope but I thought the enemies part lasted longer than the getting to know each other and fall for each other part. It just seemed like it didn’t take much for them to fall in love and yet I wasn’t convinced the chemistry was there. There were some cute parts in the book but I thought the grand gesture Scottie does for Irene at the end was cheesy. It was too much. What I think the author meant to be a cute scene for the readers to gush over was just cringeworthy to me.
Like Other Girls by Britta Lundin: I was a little worried I wasn’t going to like this book but I was pleasantly surprised. It’s about Mara, an athletic teenager who gets kicked off her high school basketball team after she hits her teammate. For her coach to reconsider her spot on the team Mara must prove she can be part of a team again. She tries out for the school’s volleyball team before she ultimately decides that volleyball is too “girly” for her and she tries out for the football team instead. Because, why not? She’s good at it, she enjoys it, and she likes being around guys better than girls. Little did she know the impact she would have for becoming the first girl on the team. I thought this book would be all about bashing femme girls, and it does start off that way. But let me tell you, I showed up for the character development and Mara (or Britta Lundin rather) delivered. Mara’s story also includes her struggle with her family’s acceptance (or lack thereof) of her identity and interests, as well as a disingenuous friendship. TW: sexual harassment, sexism and intolerance
Home Field Advantage by Dahlia Adler: Author of Cool for the Summer, Dahlia Adler does it again. Amber is a closeted high school cheerleader who dreams of becoming head cheerleader and Jaq Jack, short for Jaqueline, is the out and proud new girl in school. Oh, and she’s also the new quarterback after the last QB passed away. Amber is one of two people accepting of the change and while she’s supposed to be helping her squad and the football team to sabotage Jack, the two of them get close. Amber then questions what she cares about more, being head cheerleader and keeping her identity a secret, or Jack. TW: death/grief, sexism, bullying, homophobia/queermisia, threatened outing/blackmail
Catch and Cradle by Katia Rose: After a messy breakup that somehow effected her whole lacrosse team, Becca comes up with an idea in order to prevent history from repeating itself; an unofficial rule that teammates can’t date. But then Hope joins the team and the two find it harder and harder to resist the notion that maybe rules are meant to be broken. I thought Hope and Becca had good chemistry and the representation in this book doesn’t stop at sexual orientation or gender identity, because Hope struggles with dyslexia. However, this book also has unnecessary drama and fondue level cheesiness.

Ashley Blake Herring vs Alexandria Bellefleur, whose work do I prefer?
Easy. Blake takes the cake with Delilah Green Doesn’t Care. Her next additions, Astrid Parker Doesn’t Fail and Iris Kelly Doesn’t Date haven’t been released yet but I’m immensely excited for them. I love Delilah Green Doesn’t Care so much I’m proud to have my own paperback copy sitting on my bookshelf. I plan to write more in-depth about the series as the next two books drop. They have big shoes to fill so hopefully I love them as much as (or better yet, even more than) the first in the series!
When reading Alexandria Bellefleur’s series, I accidentally skipped her second book, Hang the Moon. I got confused and I thought that was her third book but that’s actually Count Your Lucky Stars, which I did read. When I realized my mistake, I decided not to read Hang the Moon because I already knew how it ended after reading the books out of order. I also lost the desire to finish the series because I didn’t love the other two books. That’s not to say I disliked Written in the Stars or Count Your Lucky Stars. There were parts in both I enjoyed (more so in Count Your Lucky Stars, except for an unnecessary fight) and I did love the depicted friendships, but overall they didn’t leave me with the desire to add them to my bookshelf.
That’s it for now but I’ll be back to post more recommendations/reviews on other titles. In the meantime, please let me know if I’ve left out any important trigger warnings or if you have any recommendations for me in these genres. Thank you!
