Livorno, il live club “The Cage” compie 20 anni. «Per l'Amministrazione Comunale un grande piacere, e una grande soddisfazione, vedere fissati in un volume pubblicato da una casa editrice prestigiosa, se non tutti, sicuramente i momenti più significativi di 20 anni di The Cage. Crediamo che questa realtà non svolga solo la funzione di live club, per quanto dal punto di vista tecnico sia uno dei migliori live club sul territorio nazionale, ma rappresenti un punto di aggregazione importante e anche formativo per i giovani del territorio». Così il sindaco di Livorno Luca Salvetti per i 20 anni del The Cage. «Come Sillabe siamo orgogliosi di aver partecipato ad un momento così significativo per la città di Livorno, ma anche per il mondo della musica e per gli eventi live non solo della Toscana, ma su tutto il territorio nazionale e anche oltre», commenta Giulia Perni responsabile editoriale di Sillabe. Toto Barbato direttore artistico del The Cage: «Dal 2002 organizziamo concerti a Livorno, rendiamo più felici le persone e facilitiamo la loro crescita interiore. Lo continueremo a fare anche per i prossimi 200 anni, non è una promessa ma una certezza». 2002-2022: vent'anni di live club non sono pochi per una città di provincia come Livorno. Per questo è bello e importante fissare su carta immagini e parole capaci di raccontare i momenti salienti di un percorso nato alla periferia nord di Livorno, dentro gli spazi di un locale che oggi è una carrozzeria. "The Cage: 2002/2022 – 20 anni di live club" è il libro – edito da Sillabe con ufficio stampa di Opera Laboratori – che celebra due decadi di vita di una realtà oggi riconosciuta a livello nazionale e anche all'estero, ma che si è fatta nel tempo in anni di sacrifici, sogni e voglia di colmare un vuoto in città. Salto indietro nel tempo: in via Cestoni, nel quartiere popolare di Shangai, c'è un piccolo locale che si chiama The Tube e strizza l'occhio al mondo del surf e dello skate. È proprio lì che, nell'autunno del 2002, prende vita a Livorno la prima esperienza del The Cage. Il passaggio di testimone tramuta quel posto in un club rock dove da subito si iniziano a fare concerti. Il primo (sold out) è quello dei Delta V, che arrivano sul palco del The Cage il 25 ottobre 2002. Da lì parte un'avventura che arriva ai giorni nostri riempiendosi di nomi, concerti, esperienze, generazioni diverse, sedi che cambiano e tanto lavoro, pezzi di storia di quello che i due fondatori, Toto Barbato e Mimmo Rosa, amano definire «un luogo di sana e rumorosa aggregazione giovanile». Un ringraziamento, inoltre, anche alla Castagneto Banca 1910 - Credito Cooperativo che ha voluto collaborare a questo progetto editoriale rivolto ai giovani e non solo. L'associazione culturale The Cage è una realtà che opera a livello nazionale, ma che mantiene saldo il suo epicentro a Livorno, precisamente al Teatro Mascagni di Villa Corridi, che dal 2011 è sede del The Cage. Le fotografie di Sebastiano Bongi Tomà sono l'asse portante del libro e sono suddivise in tre sezioni: "Dal mondo", dedicata agli scatti di artisti e gruppi venuti dall'estero; "Saranno famosi", incentrata sui nomi passati dal The Cage che hanno poi fatto successo nel giro di breve tempo; "Sono passati di qua", con le foto di gruppi e artisti già affermati che hanno portato la loro storia, i loro progetti e il loro seguito dentro un live club di provincia. In totale sono oltre 250 immagini che immortalano momenti di innumerevoli concerti: Melvins, Lagwagon, Asian Dub Foundation, Soulfly, Tonino Carotone, Bobo Rondelli, Nada, Bandabardò, Modena City Ramblers, Max Gazzè, Måneskin, Diodato, Calcutta, Luci della Centrale Elettrica, Coez e tanti altri ancora. Nella parte finale del libro, invece, c'è un'appendice con il racconto delle tappe principali che hanno scandito i vent'anni di attività del The Cage, attraverso le parole dei due fondatori e delle altre persone che a vario titolo hanno lavorato o tuttora lavorano all'interno dell'associazione culturale The Cage. Nei testi curati dal giornalista Dario Serpan emerge la storia, ma anche lo slancio verso il domani di un live club che affrontando le sfide del presente, adattandosi ai cambiamenti e ascoltando le nuove generazioni punta a consolidare e rinnovare il proprio ruolo nella scena culturale cittadina e italiana....
