OKAY JUST FOUND SOMETHING.
Tumblr media
THE [scrap heap] LINK TAKES YOU TO deltarune.com/ramb WHICH LOOKS LIKE THIS.
Tumblr media
Click on the door, and it shows the Green Room. A song, greenroom.ogg, plays in the background.
Tumblr media
THE DOORS ARE LINKS TO MORE STUFF. There is a LOT here, so i’m putting the rest under a cut. (also for spoiler reasons).
Click on the left door, and it leads to deltarune.com/weather, which shows THESE. (it’s one image, named weather.png). The tab title becomes  “You’re the Annoying Now Dog!” , whatever that means.
Tumblr media
clicking on the image changes it to this, with gifs of the two in the background. A looping beat, called battle-vapor.ogg, plays in the background.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(here is the gif). Back to the green room- clicking on the north star door leads to deltarune.com/changingroom , with this image, labeled curtain-closed.png. The tab is labeled (Private...).
Tumblr media
Clicking on the curtain changes it so it’s open, with the sillhouette person trying to get on a sock, and then being surprised (with a short screaming effect playing), and the curtain closes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Using inspect element, you can see that they are labeled “Shadowman putting on a sock” and “Shadowman screaming”. It seems that if you click fast enough on the shadow man, it takes you to deltarune.com/shadowmen, where it shows a battle scene with Kris, Susie, and Ralsei in new outfits.
Tumblr media
Clicking on the page starts a short video clip of the fight.
Tumblr media
Going back to the shower curtain- Clicking on it to open it after it closes a few times leads to a spinning lancer gif behind the curtain and the curtain staying open.
Tumblr media
The lancer leads to deltarune.com/lancer, in which you click on a lancer image only for many spinning lancers and a “YOU JUST GOT LANCERED!!!”  to appear, while lancer-spin.ogg plays in the background. The tab is titled “You’re the Annoying Now Dog!” Clicking on the right door in the Green Room leads to deltarune.com/tv.
Tumblr media
Clicking the TV does not do anything. Interestingly, the title for the tab reads “ *It’s off. ” , and the television is actually a gif, though it only has one frame.
Tumblr media
Curiously, going to just https://deltarune.com/assets leads to an image of the annoying dog (dog-sleep.png), which  when you click on it changes to it breathing (dog-sleep.gif) as results.ogg plays. Inspecting the site, there is also a hidden maraca dog. Huh.
Tumblr media
There’s probably more stuff hidden around, but here’s what I’ve found from the Green Room stuff!

I've been thinking about this question for awhile but I wanted to wait for a few days to ask since it's sort of spoiler territory. When Kris explained everything to the others and then returned the soul to them Kris appeared more expressive and at some times can be heard even without removing the Soul. Does that mean the player's restrictions on seeing What Kris does or hearing what they say are being slightly lifted? Since before then we couldn't hear Kris or see them react much before. Cause if that's the case then that's very awesome.
I'd kind of say that it's a combination of your connection to Kris being lessened a bit while also Kris choosing to not conceal their expressions as much. I bet you we'd see more Kris expressions in Deltarune's cutscenes if they chose not to be so stoic. There are examples in Deltarune where they're more expressive in certain cutscenes compared to most others.

hi I just found this au today and it is choking me alive
you art is amazing and the au looks stunning and when I found out this is gonna be a series I screamed!!!
I just wanted to ask if you had like a character list or a description of what the au is about?
I really would love to jump on this hype train and all this has got me so excited!
AA THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY OMG TYY <3<3<3
I do have a google sheet with a buncha characters written down but it has some spoilers in it so... 👀
But I can absolutely give a rundown!! Magyctale doesn't exactly have a solid "gimmick" (like Underswap or Underfell) but it's more like a rewrite of sorts? The characters act somewhat differentlyto their original counterparts and the main meat of the story is how their journey affects them and their relationships. :3
So for instance: Season 1 is for the most part a reimagining of Undertale, with a few original characters sprinkled alongside the AU cast. One of the biggest changes is that Frisk is older (they're about 17) so they have a lot more to say and there's a lot more room for them to express themself. Also I just prefer writing characters who aren't small childen XDD
After Season 1 is when it starts going into more stuff from my own noggin as opposed to being a retelling. So S1 is kinda like introducing all the characters and their dynamics before adding more stuff :3
By far my favorite arc is the one that incorperates elements from Deltarune- that's where my favorite boys come in and also is the arc with the most OCs!! Especially Mave- that's my horrible horrible son whom I adore with my entire heart and soul <3<3<3
I do have some character refs I can share!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are all from S1 (since that's what I'm focusing on planning right now) but I will take a short detour to talk about my awful little son just because I can <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my vile little lad Mave :3
He started off as just my interpretation of The Knight from DR but now he is one of my most multi-faceted characters of all time I think. Funny how that worked out-
He is by far one of my favorite OCs of All Time and he's such a lil weirdo hehehe
I'm so sad he doesn't come in until much later in the story,,, I want him to be Real already XDD
I don't wanna give too too much away about him because,,,yknow,,,spoilers,,, but I've posted vaguely about his lore on this blog and my main (@bonetrix-arts) as well as over on my YouTube and TikTok accounts if you're curious!!! I simply love to vaguepost about my lore <3
If you have any more questions absolutely feel free to ask!!!! Also if you wanna ask something specific about a character- though I haven't posted about it in a while -I do have character asks open :3
I was posting em on my TikTok as well as here and I think Insta for a while n then I got side-tracked HNGSVDHCJ
I think I still had more art to finish up for the last one n that's why I never posted it,,
But anyways- feel free to do that if there's anything else you wanna know!!!! I need to draw these lil weirdos again n that'd be a nice way to kickstart my brain LMAO
Also I need to make a section for my AU in my Discord server,,, why haven't I done that yet?? RAHH I'm rambling!! Sory I just get so excited when people ask about my babies hehehe
I HOPE YOU HAVE AN AWESOME DAY!!! YOU ABSOLUTELY MADE MINE <3<3<3

Inception theory
I recently rewatched the movie Inception and noticed a lot of its rules and events shockingly fit with the events seen across Deltarune so far. I am not saying the game is going to be a 1:1 recreation of the movie, but I figured to break down some of the movie's themes and plot points with Deltarune to create a hopefully interesting theory. This will take some elements from @jarujaruj's discussion on meta narratives ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gDOfNzI1RI ) as well as Auroa's FUN theory ( https://old.reddit.com/r/Deltarune/comments/iizlvc/megapost_the_fun_theory_solving_gasters_mysteries/ ) Spoilers for Inception below. TW for suicide.
In the movie Inception, a group of people devise a plan to plant an idea in the mind of the future CEO of a rival company, causing him to dissolve his company. In order to do this, they create a complex plan with a lot of rules. For the sake of clarity, I am going to go through the plan and the rules in order to make this theory clearer to follow. However, keep in mind Inception is a movie that largely follows interpretation. My breakdown is mostly surface level observation, but there's still a degree of interpretation here. Also I will provide a glossary below as a shorthand for some of the characters I will mention during this theory.
Glossary
Red - the red soul seen in the goner/vessel creation sequence
Mal - the real world wife of Cobb in Inception
Sub-Mal - Cobb's subconscious recreation of Mal
First Steps - Connection
The first step of the plan is to get the target to fall asleep; once he is asleep, the main character, Cobb, and his associates will be able to enter his dream with drugs that are administered through a machine.
Tumblr media
The setup of entering a dream through a mechanical connection is similar to the opening scene of Deltarune. At the beginning of Deltarune, Gaster creates a "connection" for Red to enter the world of Deltarune.
Tumblr media
This "vessel" is then used to enter the world of Deltarune, but is forcibly taken away by an unknown second party. In the "meta-narrative" side of things, the player enters the game of Deltarune, but in the narrative, Red enters an alternate universe, timeline, or world from wherever they originally came from. Much like the characters in Inception entering a dream, Red must enter Deltarune through some sort of device/vessel for whatever reason. But why is Gaster doing this? We may have an answer in Undertale.
Very little is known about Gaster in Undertale, but we can learn a little about him through his various Goner followers and through entry 17.
Entry 17 states:
ENTRY NUMBER SEVENTEEN DARK DARKER YET DARKER THE DARKNESS KEEPS GROWING THE SHADOWS CUTTING DEEPER PHOTON READINGS NEGATIVE THIS NEXT EXPERIMENT SEEMS VERY VERY INTERESTING ... WHAT DO YOU TWO THINK
Though vague, it implies that whatever Gaster was working on involved darkness in some way, the same power that creates the Dark Worlds in Deltarune. Some further insight into what his creation entailed can be found through his followers.
It makes sense why ASGORE took so long to hire a new Royal Scientist. After all, the old one... Dr. Gaster. What an act to follow! They say he created the CORE. However, his life... Was cut short. One day, he fell into his creation, and... Will Alphys end up the same way? ================================================== Alphys might work faster. But the old Royal Scientist, Doctor W.D. Gaster? One day, he vanished without a trace. They say he shattered across time and space. Ha ha... How can I say so without fear? I'm holding a piece of him right here ================================================== I understand why ASGORE waited so long to hire a new Royal Scientist. The previous one... Dr. Gaster. His brilliance was irreplaceable. However, his life... Was cut short. One day, his experiments went wrong, and... Well, I needn't gossip. After all, it's rude to talk about someone who's listening.
Now we have some more insight into Gaster's life. We now know that he created the CORE, "fell into his creation" which "cut his life short" and caused him to be "shattered through time and space". He was then replaced by Alphys long after.
Using these details and details from the movie Inception, I will now create a basis for what might have happened to Gaster, what his experiment might have been, and even the secret the super-bosses know.
Dreams and Universes
At the end of each chapter, each of the lightners that enter with Kris express disbelief of their adventures, asking if their adventures were dreams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When entering a dark world, the characters enter a dream-like state in the light world, yet have an adventure that seems real to them. This matches up with Inception's portrayal of shared dreams, or dreams-within-dreams. While in a dream, the dreamer has no idea they are dreaming, they believe the world they are in is real.
ARIADNE But are you trying to fool him that the dream is actually real life?
COBB (nods) While we're in there, We don't want him to realize he's dreaming.
ARIADNE How could I ever get enough detail to Convince him that it's real?
COBB Our dreams reel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up we realize things were strange. Ariadne gestures around them ARIADNE But all the textures of real life- the stone, the fabric. cars... people... your mind can't create all this.
COBB It does. Every time you dream. Let me ask you a question∶ You never remember the beginning of your dreams, do you? You just turn up in the middle of what's going on.
Once the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming in a basic shared dream, the world around them is destroyed in order to awaken the dreamer. The importance of not destroying the illusion then takes on an additional layer of danger, as the traveler must now escape deadly scenarios within the dream in order to keep it going.
Tumblr media
A similar depiction of the importance of not breaking dreams can be found at the beginning of Deltarune Chapter 2. In it, Lancer turns to stone because he can't fit into the environment of the Cyber World.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So does that mean the Dark Worlds are literal dreams? Well, no, because there are hints that they are real, like Kris creating one at the end of chapter 2. The biggest clue, however, is in Entry 17: if Gaster is working on the same darkness that powers the Dark Fountain, then that means that the Dark Worlds do exist somehow. But how? Well, let me introduce you to Limbo. In Inception, Limbo is a realm that appears when a person goes deeper into a multi-layered dream than intended, or dies in a multi-layered dream; once in Limbo, a person forgets that they are dreaming and accepts Limbo as their reality. Only by dying in a dream can one escape Limbo.
The description of limbo and multilayered dreams fits Gaster's story of being shattered across time and space. Perhaps whatever Gaster was working on was meant to be a portal to another world/universe/timeline. This could be supported by some of the genocide dialogue from Sans.
our reports showed a massive anomaly in the timespace continuum. timelines jumping left and right, stopping and starting… until suddenly, everything ends.
Instead of going to one alternate universe/world/timeline, Gaster's machine broke down and he went through all the universes/worlds/timelines at once, losing himself spiritually in the process, as one would go through in Limbo. Limbo then introduces the next part of this theory, what else was Gaster working on?
Gaster's secret experiment - AKA the dangers of recreation
From what the followers tell us, Gaster was replaced by Alphys. Alphys' main experiment shown in the Secret Lab is reviving monsters that have fallen down with a substance called Determination.
I've done it. Using the blueprints, I've extracted it from the human SOULs. I believe this is what gives their SOULs the strength to persist after death. The will to keep living… The resolve to change fate. Let's call this power… "Determination." ASGORE asked everyone outside the city for monsters that had "fallen down." Their bodies came in today. They're still comatose… And soon, they'll all turn into dust. But what happens if I inject "determination" into them? If their SOULS persist after they perish, then… Freedom might be closer than we all thought.
After injecting the monsters with determination, Alphys is able to revive the monsters for a short time.
Everyone that had fallen down... ... has woken up. They're all walking around and talking like nothing is wrong. I thought they were goners...?
But the bodies cannot handle the determination, and they fuse together to become the Amalgamates. What is interesting about Alphys' experiments in the context of Deltarune is that Alphys refers to the flower that becomes Flowey as a vessel, the same phrase used by Gaster in the vessel creation sequence at the beginning of Deltarune. She also refers to the various fallen monsters as goners, which is similar to the goners that infamously "follow" Gaster. All of this implies that Goners are dead monster souls in monster-like vessels, but unlike Alphys' experiment, the Goners aren't gooey amalgams; their original forms are still intact. The vessel sequence at the beginning of Deltarune may provide the answer to why the Goner forms are still the same; instead of being injected with Determination, Red is offered various body parts to create a vessel. It seems that Gaster's method of resurrecting souls is more mechanical than Alphys' organic solution. However, there's a catch, all of the Goners look grey and sickly in comparison to their living equivalents, this can be seen in action with the clamgirl Goner.
Tumblr media
I think the closest equivalent to the Goners in Inception are what the movie calls "projections", specifically sub-Mal. In Inception, Cobb and his wife Mal both entered Limbo and recreated buildings from their lives. In doing so, Mal forgot that she was dreaming and accepted Limbo as reality. In order to escape Limbo, Cobb had to convince Mal that her "reality" wasn't real, but once she awakens, the idea that her reality is false never leaves her, and she kills herself in the real world in an attempt to wake up from her perceived dream. This backstory is similar to that of the superbosses, specifically what Seam tells about Jevil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Mal, Jevil is told something that affects his perception of reality, he begins to see his life as a game, something that isn't real and therefore acts drastically different than the person he used to be before.
The truth the superbosses could know is that they can't escape the dark world and be freed because it is another universe/timeline/world than the Light World. Like the dreams in Inception, one must "wake up" to escape, which ultimately involves death. Alternatively, the truth that superbosses know is that the darkners don't actually exist. Inception explains that projections are people created by the subconscious that cease to exist once the dreamer awakens. Like Lancer turning to stone and the super-bosses turning to items, once the projection is no longer needed, it essentially disappears. The most notable projection seen in Inception, however, is the aforementioned Sub-Mal.
After his wife's death, Cobb learns not to recreate memories, however he continues to dream about moments he regrets in order to try and fix them.
ARIADNE But these aren't just dreams, are they? They're memories. You said never to use memories. COBB And I shouldn't. ARIADNE You're keeping her alive. COBB No. ARIADNE You can't let her go. COBB No. These are moments I regret. Moments I turned into dreams so I could change them.
This causes a subconscious projection of Mal to chase down Cobb and sabotage his dream missions in order to fulfill his greatest regret: not staying and growing old with her. However, sub-Mal is a pale imitation of the real thing.
COBB I can't stay here to be with her because she's not real. Mal looks at Cobb, furious. MAL Not real? I'm the only thing you do believe in anymore. Here-doesn't this feel real, Dom? COBB I wish you were. But I couldn't make you real. I'm not capable of imagining you in all your complexity and… perfection. As you really were. You're the best I can do. And you're not real.
I think, like Sub-Mal, the Goners are (sort of literally) pale imitations of the monsters and a human they originally were in life. Once their SOUL merges with the vessel, they become shells of their former selves, like what happened to Asriel when he became Flowey. This is probably why Gaster's vessel creation in Deltarune was overthrown by the mysterious Detractor, who tells Gaster and Red that they can't choose who they are in this world. The Detractor knows the truth about the Goners and, for whatever reason, doesn't want that fate for Red.
All of this then sheds a terrifying light on a certain character.
Let's talk about Ralsei
Ralsei is really, really odd. There's a lot that suggests he is hiding details from the FUN gang, to the point where comprehensive lists have been made about it (https://old.reddit.com/r/Deltarune/comments/up2cum/a_coherent_list_of_all_the_times_ralsei_has_acted/). The details from Inception only make Ralsei more suspicious. Like Cobb, Ralsei recreates real locations in a place where they shouldn't be.
Tumblr media
Like sub-Mal, he is superficially similar to a real world person, that being Asriel, well, mostly. Because there's one small detail that people tend to overlook and that is Kris' red horned headband.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The meta-narrative could be that Ralsei is a representation of the player's memories of Asriel and Undertale, but the narrative is that Ralsei is Kris' childhood memories of their brother and how they perceive themselves.
Alternatively, under Jaru's controversial Ralsei theory, Ralsei is a dark world representation of Kris' guilt over Asriel's death. In Inception, Cobb feels guilty over Mal's death because the reason she killed herself is tied to himself telling her that her perceived reality is false. Sub-Mal then reflects his guilt in his dreams by acting violently to fulfill his desire to stay with her and make things right. Kris, like Cobb, could have either directly or indirectly created Ralsei as a personification of their guilt for killing Asriel or being inadvertently involved in his death, as was the case with Cobb and Mal. Ralsei would then be a way for Kris to make things right, but much like Sub-Mal is only a "shade" of the original person, Ralsei is not quite like Asriel. This uncanny nature of not quite being Asriel is ultimately what makes Kris uncomfortable around Ralsei. I am not the biggest fan of the dead Asriel theory, but this connection is interesting enough to consider.
Whether Ralsei represents childhood memories or a reflection of Kris' guilt over Asriel's death, this does not mean that Ralsei is completely innocent. In Inception, Sub-Mal uses the Limbo recreation of her and Cobb's penthouse to try to convince him to stay with her. This casts suspicion on Ralsei's recreation of Kris' room, as well as the other Dark World rooms seen in Chapter 2. Is he doing it out of kindness to make the Lighters comfortable, or is he trying to lure them into the Dark World to stay there forever? If he is trying to lure all the darkners and lightners to stay in one place, why? Does he have morally good reasons for doing this, despite how terrible the situation is? Sadly, I feel like all of these questions are big mysteries that the game is still working on, but I have a feeling that the answer may be very much related to Ralsei's goal of fulfilling the prophecy by any means necessary.
So what can be pulled from all this? Like the movie Inception, Deltarune deals with nested realities, instead of dreams it is universes, worlds, or timelines. The deeper the lightners go into the dark world, the more difficult it becomes for them to perceive reality and fiction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As in Inception, breaking the rules of the dream causes the dream to break, such as the darkners turning to stone. Also like Inception, there's a sneaky implication of the dangers of recreating reality through dreams with the characters of Gaster, who creates Goners who are shells of their former selves, and Ralsei, who is suspicious and recreates home life in the dark world. Like Inception, knowing the truth of the dream, that the dream world isn't real and the only way out is death, breaks those who learn the truth and turns them into more reckless people.
At the end of Inception, Cobb wakes up on a plane and goes home to see his children again. His totem, an object meant to represent reality, is a top. His top keeps spinning, which is a sign that he is still dreaming, but it wobbles a bit, and the camera never shows if it keeps spinning or if it falls, which leads to the interpretation of whether he is still asleep or not. But that doesn't matter to him, what matters is that he can see his children again, as he wanted to. This reflects Deltarune's "choices don't matter" moniker, it doesn't matter if Cobb is still asleep or not, because he gets his happy ending.
This line of logic could allude to the theory that a true happy ending is not supposed to be possible in Deltarune, which is reflected in an infamous tweet reply from Toby Fox.

An Undertale/Deltarune Theory Complaint:
Alright I wanna bitch about UT/DR fan interpretations again. Basically, I feel like the idea that Kris is being puppeteered by the player (and that they're aware of this to any degree), which I was already not a huge fan of, is now getting retroactively applied to the protagonist of Undertale.
That sucks guys. That sucks so fucking hard. And not only does it suck, but it actually helps illustrate just why it would suck in DR too:
It retroactively fucks up the tone of the entire game!
(This is much more just a rant I've been sitting on recently, as compared to some big detailed writeup. Also, y'know, spoiler warning for both games. Screen shots from LongplayArchive on YouTube)

where's the part in the where Sans is like "but the mere act of playing this game is bad so fuck you for that?" Where is any thematic implication of that being an important element anywhere, outside of genocide route, and maybe overtly deadly choices in general? Where's the finger-waggle? Where is it??

Certainly if it was anywhere it'd be in the place where this line gets spoken and you are then morally judged for your actions. Right?
This isn't the sort of thing you have to read deeply between the lines on. Yes, a lot of the game is reliant upon the player's faulty initial assumption that the name they chose in the start is the character you're playing as.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a cool twist for sure. And this particular moment really hammers home that, yes, Frisk is their own person. But it comes across less as some kind of "gotcha" admonishment and more just, like, the clear logical conclusion of the twist that's already been pretty much spelled out at this point anyway. That the name you chose was for somebody else entirely.
Hell, after this revelation happens, you're then given more time to walk around as Frisk and talk to people. If at this point you're supposed to be thinking that controlling Frisk is an inherently unsavory thing at all times, wouldn't that be an inherently bad segment? Wouldn't the only correct choice be to rush out the door towards the credits as fast as possible?
Under that understanding, the only moral choice outside of not playing at all is a non-violent speed run.
Maybe I'm not understanding popular fan theories correctly and am vastly overestimating how many people actually think this whole "player puppeteering" thing retroactively applies to Frisk too. But the mere thought of it really gets my panties in a twist I won't lie.
Also,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At this point, you know full well that Frisk is their own person. Yet, here you are, dealing with one last choice prompt. How can there be anything morally questionable about this? Hell, even acting with the knowledge that Frisk is their own person and doing your best to pick what you think they'd want... it gets you nowhere. Which answer is correct? The first? The Second? Neither? Both?
I don't think you're supposed to dwell on that. If anything it just further hammers home how Frisk has shit going on you're probably not even aware of. I think that normally, the player and the player character are kinda indistinguishable, especially in-universe. It's not until you start doing logically absurd violent shit that the game bends over backwards to make the player feel like a fucked up asshole, as opposed to Frisk. To the point where the spiritual embodiment of numbers going up for their own sake pops out and calls you a psycho just like them.
LIke, this aspect of the writing isn't subtle? I really don't see room for any other interpretation. If you have to imagine the player as some distinct aspect of the game world even during a peaceful playthrough, then I'd stick with my interpretation from my Kris writeup (linked at the beginning of this) where you're, like, some part of their subconscious that helps them decide shit. Or a headmate that they probably aren't aware of, if the player has to be something resembling a distinct person.
Oh, also: if both options in that final choice prompt are equally valid, then that really bolsters my idea that the choices given to you are coming from the character, rather than something foisted upon them out of nowhere. Like, again, you're just helping decide. If they wanna just talk, then they just talk. Like when they give their name to Asriel. Kris is handled exactly the same way. Deltarune is just written with you knowing that Kris is their own person from the very start, where Undertale isn't. That's it.
Which means...
Tumblr media
... Frisk is absolutely the kind of person to consider all of these options at once, lol. They were effectively a less edgy test run for Kris, I think.

Does Ev get the abilities of whatever universe he's in, (like healing magic in deltarune or something) or does he only have the ones he started with?
Hi it's currently one in the morning but this can't wait so here goes.
The answer is sort of!
Ev started out with [REDACTED] and accelerated healing, but lost the former, so really the only special ability he has is the healing stuff, and even that is finicky.
A lot of it depends on the sword. Its health, its mood, (cough, whether or not he has it, cough), and whether it feels up to cooperating. Yes it has moods. I will not be elaborating on this /lh
In any case, any "abilities" he gains are more just adaptations to the world around him. High altitude? Expanded lung capacity. Always dark? His eyes get a little sharper. Subzero climate? Dude hates the cold, but he'll manage.
Usually he walks into the world with the equipment he needs, no thanks to his own body, but on rare occasions he actively changes to fit the mold. Like in the deltarune universe!
A universes set laws more often change his physical form, but other stuff is up in the air. Like, oh, I don't know, the visual (physical?) manifestation of a soul?
Anyways, the CIA agent assigned to monitor my brainwaves is getting suspicious and saying any more will be spoilers. (Plus this is getting. Pretty long) So, I shall leave you with this.
Hope you enjoyed my ramblings, I always love talking about my boy!! :D

the dark world chronicles
CHAPTER SELECT
DISCLAIMER! I would like to mention a few things before I get into anything. Not all the characters will fit exactly with their counterpart and this is just my opinion. I'm letting y'all know I'm not shipping anyone or making any one-sided crushes!! This isn't exactly like Deltarune, I just really like the game and South Park. Any art belongs to @kenanonsthoughts so check them out too!! This isn’t a collab with them anymore but I still wanna try updating WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD
IN WHICH... New Kid, along with their companions, find themselves in a dark world of sorts. Yet somehow no one remembers how they got there? Nor do they remember their lives back in town. It seems their roles in this new world are almost similar to the ones they have back home. So far, New Kid's companion from the very start is the only one who remembers besides themself, and he seems very... guilty. But then again, isn't he always guilty of some wrongdoing?

Hey, I would've sent this earlier, but I just realized you have an ask box. I never really cared for reading fanfics, but Cold Case actually got me hooked! You mentioned there were other endings you had things for--will you reveal at least vague details at the end? And what's the deal with soul colors?
I'm super glad you're liking the fic!
I'm not quite sure what to do with my alternate ending ideas... I suppose at the very least I'll share the premises at the end in some form. Right now all I have written down are the titles and descriptions for each ending, but I have some vague ideas on how the 'player' would hypothetically reach some of the endings, and how they'd change the events of the fic.
Not quite sure what you mean by the 'deal with soul colors', but the system I'm using in Cold Case is based off the Undertale meanings of the souls: So, blue is integrity, orange is bravery, green is kindness, the whole shebang. This plays into how Detective Marigold, a Justice Soul, is based off the Yellow Fallen Human from Undertale, with the cowboy hat and the toy gun and all. But if you're talking about the lines of dialog / internal thought that Alexandra has been throwing around about the Golden Judge and shit, that's some small original worldbuilding I decided to throw in. This isn't really 'spoilers' because it isn't plot-relevant and I'm not sure how much I'm going to actually touch on, but just in case I'm going to stick it behind a read more.
So, when Alexandra mentions these grand titles, she's talking about the figures of worship for the religion she follows, Virtuism, which is the traditional human religion of this version of Deltarune. (Sort of like how the Church of the Angel is the traditional monster religion.) So basically, as a human from a human family, Alexandra was raised under the tenets of this religion, and still follows it fairly avidly.
Alexandra's religiousness is fairly important to her character motivations and flaws when I conceptualize her in my head, and I wanted to allude to that in the text -- thus were born these cryptic references to the Scarlet Monarch and shit.
The basics of Virtuism are that they worship seven Saints, which, similar to most real religious figures, are probably-real-but-heavily-mythologized ancient humans of the DR world. There's one for each soul color, and when a human is born of a particular soul color, the saint of the appropriate color is said to be their 'patron saint'. So, Alexandra's patron saint is the Golden Judge, or Lady Justice, or whatever title Alexandra feels like calling the yellow-souled saint at the time (as with most religious figures, all the saints have multiple monikers).
I'll be sprinkling in more on this and the other Saints as the fic goes on, but I honestly don't know how many I'll get to. I have one scene half-written a while from now that goes a little more explicitly into Virtuism, but other than that, you'll probably just see Alexandra throw some names around here and there.
Maybe I'll release some more thorough notes on the religion along with those alternate endings once the fic is up, though, who knows -- I tend to translate a lot of my headcanon material between otherwise-distinct fics (such as Kris's full name being 'Krismas' in pretty much all my fics), so I may end up reusing this human religion system in a future project.
Thanks for letting me ramble! See you in a week, by the way, for what's shaping up to be a very fun chapter...

Poggay's Dream Journal #1: Artist!Kris
Hey, gay people in my computer! I've decided to post some of the weird dreams I've had onto this hellsite for your enjoyment. Everything will be under the tag, "poggay's dream journal" if you ever want an archive.
This first dream is about Deltarune, so if you don't know much about the game or don't want spoilers, I'd recommend you skip this post. The dream is under the cut below!
In the dream, Kris was an artist. And a very, very strange one at that. Frequently, they would black out and wake up to discover that they had drawn many pictures of dark worlds that they had never been in before. Later, they and Susie would find the fountains that led to those same dark worlds.
The dark world that the dream took place in had an industrial, capitalist dystopia vibe. It was sort of like a cross between the Core and the Cyber World. It was a tall, labyrinthine factory made entirely of metal. I could almost smell the pollution that filled the building.
Because of how big the factory was, The Fun Gang had to take these long elevators. But strangely, the floors weren't marked by numbers (1st floor, 2nd floor, etc.), but by shapes. Weird, scribble-looking purple lines that symbolized where you were and where you were going.
Infuriatingly, the factory had rooms FULL of enemies that swarmed the party and nearly killed them multiple times.
Sweet, Cap'n, and K_K were there, too! I don't know why they didn't turn to stone or something, considering they were in a different dark world. They meandered between rooms and had some funny dialogue, and at one point joined the party.
Near the end of the dream, Susie, in typical Susie fashion, kicked a painting that was hanging on a wall (much to the dismay of Ralsei). But the painting had nothing in it. It was just a blank, white canvas in a frame.
The dream ended when The Fun Gang and SCC all piled into an elevator, and Susie started talking to Kris about their... interesting drawing habits.
And that's it! I don't know what it means, or where it came from, but I think it's pretty cool. Like, hey! I made a Deltarune AU in my sleep!

Introduction
Oh, hey, mortal. So, guess this old thing still works…? Well, congrats. By discovering this interface, you gained the ability to send messages beyond time and space, to the Infinite Cosmos. I advise you to use this power with an adequate level of responsibility.
Or don’t. It doesn’t matter, really. Because of the nature of the Cosmos, each reality contains infinite copies of itself. Even if you somehow end up completely messing up a world by, I don’t know, sending nuclear plans to cavepeople? Who cares, there’s still infinite versions of that world where that never happened. Just please, don’t piss off any Prime Gods. They will get on my case, and while they can’t do anything to me, they love to complain, and I have no interest dealing with them.
Actually wait, I can just make it so that you can’t contact other Prime Gods through this. That should save me some headache.
Anyway. If you REALLY feel like you need an entity with knowledge and power that you won’t be able to comprehend in a billion lifetimes for some chit-chat, you can message me. Make it entertaining and I might answer. Okay, that out of the way, here’s some instructions and basic terms on how to use this thing.
P.S. If you’re about to ask me to save you from some sort of world-shattering disaster, don’t. I’m not your nanny.
P.S.2: I might make an exception if said disaster was caused by me, but do not ask me to fix what other deities messed up. We have a policy of not getting into each other’s business and the only reason I ignore that is if it amuses me. But believe me, your problems are incredibly boring.
Okay, so the rules.
This is an ask/RP blog for my stories and OCs from the Infinite Cosmos setting. That is, basically all my stories and OCs. You can address me with general questions about characters or my writing, or you can address my characters for an in-character response. I might hold on to information about ongoing stories to avoid spoilers, but otherwise I like to rant about my writing so go and give me an excuse to do that if you’re interested.
The Setting
The Infinite Cosmos, most commonly referred as simply the Cosmos by its inhabitants, is a multiverse of multiverses where every possible and impossible version of reality exists somewhere. Some worlds and people are more aware of the other worlds out there than others. Also some worlds exist in other worlds as works of fiction. All my stories, both original and fanfiction, take place in the Cosmos. This is usually not at all important for the stories itself – after all, the Cosmos is infinite and I crafted it with the exact purpose that any kind of fictional world can coexist in it without contradicting each other, but it gives justification for cross references and metajokes which I love to make. (There is a cosmology and backstory I’m working on which I will definitely finish and use in an actual story one day.)
My Stories
Enchant: My current main project. An ongoing series about troubled teens discovering magical powers and turning into superheroes in a fictional modern setting. Updates irregularly with pretty long chapters.
You can always see the darkness: A long series of Deltarune fanfiction that I wrote over the course of a year, eventually turning it into its own AU. It is finished now.
Shuffled Fate: A discontinued isekai story from 2021. A lot of my OCs originate from here. To address the Shuffled Fate-version of any characters, just put “SF!” before their name. Otherwise, the more recent version of the character will answer if there are any.
Reverse Rune: An ongoing Deltarune roleswap AU series. It’s currently on the backburner.
Misplaced Fate: My multifandom-multiverse-crossover project. On the backburner.
Cross-references
I’m a writer with writer friends. Sometimes we get involved in each other’s projects or write fanfiction/recursive fanfiction for them. I have a friend who has a universal adaptor cast of OCs and she also likes to put her friend’s OCs into her stories. We both like crossovers and references. This can lead to shenanigans. If I reference a friend’s story or character, just take it as my headcanon/take on the original like you’d do with any canon fandom characters. Obviously nothing is canon to my friends’ works unless they say so.
Canon Characters
If I ever wrote fanfiction for something, you can send asks or prompts about those stories and characters too, just keep in mind that you’re talking to the character’s version living in my multiverse.
My OCs
Wisp: Okay, so this is not really an OC (man, I’m bad at this aren’t I), it’s just me. The creator of all my works and the narrator of most of them. You can address me in general about my worlds and characters, just keep in mind that I have no idea what I am doing most of the time, I will most likely make up stuff on the fly and might end up contradicting myself. I also use they/them pronouns mostly, it/its fine too until further notice.
Nightmare: He’s a Prime God, that is, he’s one of the “true gods” of the multiverse, not part of an in-universe pantheon. He can do anything, in theory, and he’s quite determined to see if that’s true in practice too, unlike other deities who usually stick to creating and managing their own worlds. He usually appears as this really tall guy with spiky black hair, long black fingernails, wearing a biker outfit, sunglasses, and oh, he has eight eyes. He also tends to talk in a kind of deep, booming voice that carries the feeling of powerful emphasis for mortal beings. He can be a bit jerkish and full of himself as a side-effect of the whole all-powerful god thing.
“I can hear you; you know.”
Flow: “Uhm, voices in my head… okay, don’t panic, this happened to Natasha too. Wait, that’s not reassuring at all.”
Flow is a guy (gender neutral) who I like to put into situations. They went from being unexpectedly isekaid in Shuffled Fate to being unexpectedly but a bit more willingly becoming a hero in Enchant (those are different canons and even worlds but eh). They’re great at being out of their water, feeling anxious, and serving as a foil to more extravagant characters, which does not mean they can’t be a bit of a mess themself. Also they’re 15 because that’s a great age to have things happen to you.
“Good things?”
:)
“Oh…”
In Enchant, Flow’s heroic identity is Ruthen. If you address Ruthen, they will answer as them, assuming you don’t know their identity.
Natasha: “Oh no, not again.”
“Oh, come on, I know you enjoy making a good show. And now you have an audience!”
“Sigh, fine. Not like I have much choice, you will just keep broadcasting these telepathic messages from other worlds into my head until I answer them, don’t you.”
Excuse Natasha for her mood, she had a rough…
“Life.”
“Lives.”
… existence. She started out as a minor Deltarune OC, then grew into a major antagonist in my fanfiction, then into an Anti-Villain. At some point in 2022 when Kira was looking for friends’ OCs to put them into her MLB fanfic, Maris Stella, I submitted Natasha, somewhat reworking her concept to work better with the different setting. Then, partially inspired by MLB and Maris Stella myself, I started to work on Enchant where Natasha became one of the main protagonists.
Even though she’s got three different versions now, the gist of the character stayed the same. She started out as an orphan living in pretty bad circumstances, being bullied by older kids, got separated from her one (1) friend, then got taken in by a rich widow who turned out to be an abusive jerk. Where the story goes from there is what really differs in the different continuities.
Addressing Natasha generally will get you her Enchant version most of the time – you can address DR!Natasha for her original version from my fanfiction or Maris!Natasha for the version appearing in Maris Stella. Addressing Nocturknight or Sylvana, her heroic alteregos from Enchant and Maris Stella respectively, she will answer as them, assuming you don’t know her civilian identity.
Vess: “…”
These are voice messages. They can’t see you. All they know is that you’re not talking.
“…”
Sigh. Vess grinned threateningly at the audience, showing their inhumanly sharp teeth.
There, happy now?
“Yes.”
Okay, so…
“Wait, are you making fun of me?”
… so Vess was originally my interpretation of the Discarded Vessel from Deltarune for a fanfic I wrote. Then as I kept writing more stuff with them, they kept growing, slowly becoming their own thing. Since I wanted to use them more, I decided to rework their whole background, creating a version with largely the same personality, and keeping and building on the gimmicks I added, for Enchant.
In all their versions, they’re an edgy, angsty, creepy, mostly-humanoid-in-an-uncanny-valley-way straw nihilist creature with artificial origins who will eat anything. That might or might not include you.
“It does.”
By default, Vess’ Enchant version answers the asks. For their original version from my fanfiction, address DR!Vess.
Néne: Néne is a powerful Seer native to Stonecloud Realm (the original setting of Shuffled Fate). She has the ability to see a person’s past and future as a network of branching paths but can’t predict what choices someone will make before they actually make them. Basically imagine what Garnet from Steven Universe had going on, but on a much bigger scale.
“Oh, Garnet? She’s adorable, but if anything, I’d call her a talented guesser rather than an actual Seer. I mean come on, being given false information can confuse her vision. That’s called a prediction, not a prophecy. But she’s a great yoga partner and I got my favorite pancake recipe from her. She’s always welcome at my house.”
Unlike most other Seers who work as spies, strategists, or advisers, Néne uses her power the run a successful restaurant, as she can make anyone’s favorite food, the exact way they like it without ever meeting them before. This, and her “first time free” policy turned Néne’s Dinner Hall a popular tourist spot among the travelers of Stonecloud and sometimes even guests from other worlds pay a visit.
“I saw it too many times, what it does to people if they learn about their possible futures. It paralyzes them with fear, denies them from meaningful choices. Everyone wants something and we all fear failure – but if we start to make our choices based on fixed knowledge of what will get us what we want then our life becomes a complicated choreography and somewhere along the way, we stop being ourselves. A good meal can make so much more good, don’t you think?”
Artemis: “Hi there! If you have some time, come, visit my shop! You don’t need to buy anything, but you might want after checking out our antique wares! For more information visit gwn.herald.con/@ArtemisHolmes and don’t be afraid to leave a like!”
Uhm okay, yes, while Artemis poses as an antique shopkeeper…
“I can assure you, I’m a perfectly ordinary shopkeeper.”
… he’s actually one of the few remaining members of the Order of the Enchanters, guardian of the remaining Enchants and currently in charge of picking human allies in the fight against the Sorcerer. He’s also well over 800 years old and is the spouse of…
Nox: “I don’t trust this at all. We have enough on our plate here, in our world without voices from the Cosmos.”
Rob Nox (Rob is his family name) comes from a long line of soldiers serving the Order. He was about to be an exception, up until his family history quite literally caught up to him. Long before Nox’s birth, his father was afflicted with a magical condition that slowly turned his body into living crystal feeding on his very life-force. Nobody realized the severity of it until it was too late. After his father succumbed to the curse it moved to the next generation – onto Nox. He joined the Order in hopes for retaliation and a cure but only started to care about its mission after meeting a young and idealistic Artemis. Then the Mistfall came.
Narwia: She’s not a cat.
“Wait, that’s it? That’s all you’re going to say about me‽”
It seemed important to you.
“No, you know what I mean, there’s really nothing interesting you can say about me? You did it for all the others!”
Very well, why don’t you go ahead and talk about yourself then?
“Hah! You’d like to know, don’t you?”
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Anyway, Narwia Solena is a felimorph and professional reaper and devil-hunter, working with the Order of the Enchanters on a strictly occasional basis.
She’s also a cat sometimes!
“I’m a felimorph!”
Igne: “Hey! Not sure who you are and how can we talk, but go ahead, ask me anything!”
Igne is one of Flow’s classmates with a passionate personality and wide range of interests. They love martial arts but have a hard time following any actual training because of their wayward nature. They hate bullies and dream about being able to help others but can be a bit reckless at times.
Matis: “Is it really a good idea to give out all this pretty personal information about us to some mysterious voices claiming to be from other worlds? I mean, shouldn’t we be at least a bit suspicious about this?”
Matis is Flow’s other classmate and the best friend of Igne. He’s usually responsible for his age and often acts as the voice of reason besides Igne, however his curiosity and desire to be more proactive and bolder can lead him into dangerous situations as well.
This list is incomplete and will be updated over time, but don’t feel limited by it. You can address any characters who appear in any of my works, whether they’re on the list or not!

Five more Music-Themed games
This isn't really a genre, since I'm not constricted by only researching "rhythm games". If it's got music and uses it in an interesting way, I'll take a crack at it.
Undertale - I really enjoyed this game in my younger years. Not only was it a well-put-together RPG, but it included pretty good commentary about morality, choice, empathy, and choosing what is right over what is easy. Characters were incredibly memorable, giving you reasons not to kill them, and the world would change based on your actions. You felt like this benevolent being in a world that you have no reason to save, and yet, by pulling on the strongest emotions, these characters, mere sprites and lines of code, could convince you to invest in their lives. The fandom may have been a cesspool rivaling the dark ages of FNAF, and to be honest, I never got interested in Deltarune, but standalone, Undertale was good. Oh, and the music was also amazing. Toby Fox is a ridiculously good composer; the music is well-made, but he also utilises leitmotifs and character themes to create emotional connections and fun nods. For example, Spider Dance - a theme that plays when you fight a spider lady - when played on piano, requires you to play as a duet, i.e. with two sets of hands, as a spider would. The greatest example of this is Hopes and Dreams, one of the last songs you listen to if you're going for true pacifist. I don't know how to spoiler text in Tumblr, so if you haven't played Undertale yet, just don't look at the screen. Essentially, Asriel is the true form of Flowey, that genocidal maniac who has been puppeteering your journey through the Underground. Now freed from his flower form, Asriel wants to reset the entire timeline and bring everything back to how it was. In his theme, the opening track Once Upon A Time can be heard, giving your adventure a cyclic theme, and Flowey's old theme, Your Best Friend, can also be heard at times, connecting back to Asriel's bitter existence in the flower. This is topped off with an orchestral rock theme to the entire track, showing you that this is the climax of the game. Video games are art.
Beatsaber - This one's a classic VR title. I believe it was FUNKe who said that (paraphrasing) most VR games basically boil down to either machinery operation, or swinging a stick. Beatsaber is this idea in its most distilled form, chopping apart blocks to the beat of whatever song you've chosen. Most times, you have to slice a block along the direction of the arrow stamped on it, and there are weird frosted glass blocks that you have to keep your sabers out of. There's really not much I can talk about with this one; in my eyes, it's the Pong of VR games. It's got a sort of interesting aesthetic; geometric shapes, colored lasers and dry ice gives everything an 80s disco theme. What I like about Beatsaber is that it's a VR game that uses its virtual reality to its advantage. Lots of VR games will have you maneuver yourself around with simple button presses from your controllers, and the VR-ness of it is relegated to a 3D graphics card. With Beatsaber, you have to swing the sticks yourself, and the directional blocks keep the movement interesting. I suppose it's closer to osu in the sense that you have to factor in your own speed, reflexes and direction, instead of pressing a key when the arrows line up.
BPM: Bullets Per Minute - I've referenced this game a couple times, but now I get to talk about it in a little more detail. Without just saying "it's like Metal Hellsinger but without vocals and without a sword", there is more to it. The beat-to-beat gameplay is more about hitting the smaller notes, rather than just performing an action to the tempo, as you do in Hellsinger. You know when you're listening to music, and imagining some sort of action-packed sequence unfolding to the rhythm? That's what BPM is. You have to leap, dodge, and shoot, all to the beat, but there's more to it than that. Some weapons have interesting reloads that don't easily fit into the rhythm, like a bolt-action rifle that has four shots on the beat, four cocks on the beat, and then three reload beats. It's hard to explain, but you need to account for the type of rhythm and fit your gun's timing into that. It's a pretty cool idea, and there is a bit of a roguelike element with gear you can switch out to make fights interesting, or add a new mechanic to fit onto the beat.
Serious Sam 2 - This may not seem like it has a unique twist to its music, but I believe it does. This ridiculously over-the-top cartoonish horde shooter is a lot of fun, primarily for all the things it does "wrong". It came out in 2005, when first person shooters were steadily stagnating into slow "piss-filtered" modern military games. Despite this, you juggle something like 15 weapons, fighting through hordes of clowns with explosive cream pies, ogre footballers, giant robot spiders and ripped devils with rocket launchers for hands. Everything is bright and stylised, you can clearly see enemies in the environment, and despite being a horde shooter, the gameplay loop allows you to progress through the enemies instead of being driven back by them. Also, it's just mindless fun to plough through the game's many worlds; there's a jungle world, a gigantic world, a culturally questionable China world, a volcano world, a fantasy world, and then a prison moon, and then a city planet... it goes on for a while. There's unique music for each level (not just each world), and not only that, but the level's music is split into different themes - a "peace" track, a "tension" track and a "fight" track. If you're just walking along, it plays the peace track. If you're near enemies, or escaping from combat, it plays the tension track. If you're in the middle of a fight, it plays the fight track. All of these share similar leitmotifs, so it appears like the music flares up organically depending on what situation you find yourself in. It's a pretty good system all things considered. Other games of the time with dynamic soundtracks would loop different parts of the ambience based on your situation (like Thief or the original Far Cry) but I don't know of many that had different tracks for your sitation, except maybe Deus Ex.
Geometry Dash - GD feels like a game that almost everyone has played, or at least heard of. It's a basic rhythm game, but instead of having you mash arrow keys to the beat, it's simple: jump on time to the beat. All you have to worry about is jumping; avoiding spikes, blades, and walls. There are other mechanics, like different modes (UFO is like Flappy Bird, while the spider can snap to a vertical surface) and portals that reverse gravity or make your character a mirror version of itself. The different collectibles add replay value, encouraging you to find secret paths in a level or try to complete one first try.

Pinned Post (Updated)
Hiya! I'm Jake (or Julia, because why not have 2 names? gender is a suggestion anyways) pronouns: they/he (though, she/her is also acceptable. bigender vibes) I mostly use this blog to reblog shitposts, reblog art, and talk about games i love. I try to avoid reblogging any sort of serious matters.
(I may rewrite this interests section, but I'll just edit the post. Spent time on the tags section.)
I really like posting minecraft ideas or concepts here, because I'm a big nerd for the game, and ... well, is it fitting to say I'm an aspiring game designer? Game design fascinates me.
I'm also a big nerd about writing and stories in general, particularly in games. I'm that one person who'll probably interact with every npc before moving on. I enjoy theories... lore... all that stuff. Games are art!
In terms of fandoms / fixations, ha... well, my interests fluctuate a lot. In terms of here, I'm sure minecraft will stay consistent. even my interest in deltarune fluctuates. But I'm really into lots of games, especially indie games.
My favs include minecraft, terraria, undertale/deltarune, pokemon, stardew valley, risk of rain 2, hollow knight, celeste, oneshot, ori, and much more! Besides games? I love uh... music. Not that I'll talk much about it here I imagine. I love... seeing cool art! I love... writing! I love... cats and dogs!
I try to tag my different types of posts, and I'll especially try to use the following tags more consistently following today.
TAGS I USE AHEAD:
#reblog - reblogs, whether they're art, shitposts, whatever (#fav reblog if I really love the post)
#jake ramblings - general ramblings of mine, if you care to hear about them. May mostly be me appreciating my friends and cats.
#[game name] ramblings / idea (i.e minecraft idea, cassette beasts ramblings, pokemon idea) - because I love thinking up ideas for games like minecraft... or just talking about how much i appreciate game design or just. may be having fun. I'll always tag the game itself, too.
#[game name] spoilers - for if a post contains spoilers or leaks for a game, although any spoilers will also be behind a "keep reading" line.
#toxicity / toxicity mention - if a post mentions people who are generally shitheads on the internet, I'll tag that it mentions toxicity. If I'm responding directly to someone being toxic, it'll include the toxicity tag. Mostly goes for me ranting about minecraft haters.
#vent - a vent post, which I will always include a "keep reading" line in. Don't feel the need to read these, I just like getting them out there sometimes.
#mild vent - similar to the above, but more casual frustrations than serious topics. Same rules apply
#post im proud of - I'll retroactively be editing some of my posts to include this tag, it'll act as a sort of... best of my posts, I'd say. The posts that I would like people to see the most, anyways.
and finally, #jake meta post, for posts like these, anything pertaining to the blog itself
