TRIGGER WARNING: this post talks about themes of sexual assault, which will also be explored in tomorrow’s post entitled “Trauma Tuesday: Setou Ole Asphalt.”

Demi Lovato started their career by acting in Barney and Friends as Angela. I never watched Barney as a child, so I cannot speak from personal experience about the public’s reaction to this part of Demi’s life, but I know that this was when they met their best friend, the wonderful and beautiful Selena Gomez. I adore their friendship and hope deep in my heart that it is pure and not just for publicity. My favorite production that these two were a part of together is the Disney Channel Original Movie Princess Protection Program.

They were also well-known on Disney Channel for their roles in the Sonny With A Chance show and the Camp Rock movie series. I only found out about Demi in my childhood with minimal media consumption when the release of their album Unbroken. “Skyscraper” and “Give Your Heart A Break” can still be found on my little pink iPod Nano that I have hidden in an old jewelry box in my closet. Some other favorite songs that I have listened to over the years include “Heart Attack,” “Really Don’t Care,” “Confident,” “Cool for the Summer,” “Sorry Not Sorry,” and “OK Not To Be OK.”

Demi’s newest album Holy Fvck definitely sheds their old “good girl” appearance for a punk-pop rock version of themself, and I am so here for it. The songs from this album that made it onto my favorite Spotify playlist were “City of Angels,” “Skin of my Teeth,” and the song that I will be reviewing today, “29.”

Okay so I know she primarily does music nowadays, but I can’t have a blog without mentioning someone who was a big part of my childhood. 

Demi Lovato.

She has gone through so much in life, but we are not going to focus on that. We are going to focus on the gems she brought us.

Demi appeared in a Disney Channel Original movie called Camp Rock, featuring the Jonas Brothers. Naturally, this jump started her career. She went on to star in a second Camp Rock movie and she got her own Disney Channel show called Sonny with a Chance. 

She also starred alongside Selena Gomez in Princess Protection Program and had a minor role in Grey’s Anatomy, as a patient. 

Just like Selena, she got her start on a Barney show. 

Demi has been through some hard times, but I think we all owe her some thanks for staying strong and being able to bring characters to life, whether it be on screen or through her music.

Demi, you are a role model. No one can take that from you. I am proud of you.
