Heaven's Demons, Chapter 40

1 Year Later

Sweetie smiled, her boys celebrating their birthday while she held her two-month-old daughter.  The twins blew out their candles with the help of Jake and Steve, and the rest of the charter members and non-MC friends began clapping and cheering for the little boys who looked more and more like their father with every passing day.

Her heart fluttered in happiness, seeing everyone there.  Lee and Lauren had showed up with their son and Amelia.  She was newly pregnant and had a very large ring on her finger.  After Andy was put away, Lee fought to have custody of Amelia to make sure that she was with family, and ever since then they couldn’t be happier.

Ari had started dating Bucky’s little sister, Rebecca, one of Lauren’s teacher friends, while working down at the VA, helping other veterans find a creative outlet once they were out of the military.  While he wasn’t part of the MC anymore, he still talked with a lot of the guys, and had begun working towards a counseling degree and assisting with programs to help more veterans like himself.

Even Bucky had shown up, with year-long sober Charles on his arm.  While they had a hard time getting Charles away from Nigel, Bucky managed to provide a safe space for him to detox under the protection of the Junkyard Dogs, and by the end of it, the two men had found themselves falling in love with one another.  Bucky had someone to care for, and Charles found himself caring for the heavily neglected biker in such a way that Bucky flourished under his gaze.  The two of them had even talked about adopting a child together, and Bucky had finally moved out of the clubhouse and into an actual house with Charles. 

And while Steve, Jake, and Sweetie were happy with their little arrangement, Steve had decided that they needed to find a bigger house for their growing family.  So, while the party was at the clubhouse, Sweetie’s brother, and a few of the other guys had disappeared to move the stuff into a brand new house that Steve had purchased, with the hopes that once he got everyone home, and the kids to bed, that the three adults could begin christening it, and working on baby number four.  Because while he loved his boys, and Jake’s little addition, he found himself craving the idea of more kids around. 

He was becoming softer ever since their little arrangement started, and Jake and Sweetie had not only made a place in his heart, but they made Steve a calmer, better man who strived to make the MC more above-board. 

But the rest of the old charter was there.  Or most of them were, at least.  Lucas had managed to find love in a sweet butt and they were taking it slow.  He still held a lot of anger over losing Pixie, and when Steve had told him that he and Jake would be playing the role of the twins father now that he’d finally settled down, but Lee was a man of habit, and knew that he had nothing outside of the club. 

Alice and Jefferson had gotten back together after Johnny’s patch party, and Jefferson had become more protective than ever now that she was about to burst with their first child; a little girl.  Meanwhile, Johnny and Hellcat had a little boy, a few months before Sweetie, Jake, and Steve’s little girl was born. 

The only person who seemed to be missing from their little group was Sam, who unfortunately was unable to cope with the loss of his little librarian.  Steve did, however, give him a way out, and Sam ended up back in town with Ari, helping veterans at the VA.  He was still working through his own issues, but had been getting better, even through the refusal of coming to the twin’s party.

“Alright, what did you wish for?” Jake asked, playfully teasing the boys.

“Daddy that’s not how it works,” Dylan giggled, looking at him.  Then he looked at Steve, “dad, tell daddy that’s not how it works.”

“He’s right,” Steve smiled, winking at his boyfriend, “they tell you and it won’t come true.”

“I wished that the bad man was gone…that he stayed gone,” Mikey said quickly to his Steve, making his voice low enough that no one else could hear him, “that we were safe.”

Steve gave his son a soft look and patted his hair.  A few weeks ago, they caught sight of Andy on the news, and had been having nightmares as they overheard a trial was going to be happening, and they were worried that Andy would escape and come after their family.  But Steve sighed as he looked at the worried face of his son, a plan in motion so that his sons would never have to worry about Andy Barber ever again., “I promise buddy…we’re all safe…now you and your brother have some cake, okay?”

“And in breaking news, Thor Odinson, wanted for the murder of his brother has been located yesterday in the state of Nebraska,” the news anchor said.  Across the room, Andy looked up from his table to see a picture of Thor, and then a video of him being apprehended and loaded into a cruiser, “he’s been wanted in connection to the murder of his brother nearly a year ago, an up-and-coming politician who was looking to rebuild the city.”

“You’re in my spot.”

Andy looked behind himself to see a large man.  He was roughly the same size as him, but the guy looked worse for wear.  Andy narrowed his eyes, “Fuck off.”

The guy’s jaw tensed, but he said nothing as Andy turned back around. 

“Should really pay attention there, Barber.”

Andy’s eyes shot up to see someone all too familiar staring back at him.  His brow furrowed, “what the fuck do you think you’re doing here?”

“They transferred me back home once they got me,” Thor grumbled, sitting down at the table.  Andy frowned, noting that Thor’s trademarked long hair had been snipped to a buzzcut, “gotta try me in the state that Loki met his end in…”

“But how are you here?”

“Funny story about that,” he chuckled.  Andy gasped as he felt a sharp prick in his back, right along his spine.  Then two more in quick succession leading up to his neck, before the final one settled right at the juncture of his neck and shoulders.  His hand reached up and he felt for the shiv, “Cap made me an offer, Barber…and after I learned about what you did to the others…bout what you set up…the rest of that shit didn’t matter…so I let them catch me…just so I could deliver a message to you…personally!”

The guard’s whistle blew, and they called for everyone to get down.  Andy fell backwards off his seat; his back hitting the cold concrete.  Thor raised his head ever so slightly as the blood pooled around his former president. 

“Every man bleeds, Barber.  We don’t kill women and we don’t kill children.  You destroyed our own as a means to control them…and that ain’t what the Heaven’s Demons are about!” Thor said firmly, “wish I could say I’m sorry brother…but I’m not.  It’s just a matter of survival.”

And as the light faded from Andy’s eyes and his body started to feel cold, he looked at the man who was still standing behind him.  The man claiming that Andy was in his seat.  And he caught the Heaven’s Demon’s mark along his forearm.  Rumlow’s face look like it’d been blown to hell and sewn back together. 

He almost didn’t recognize the member, but he didn’t need to.  He knew that it was a final message from Cap, telling him that he was done.

That it was game over for him and that he was never going to get out alive.

'our father who aren't in heaven' is sure a buckleming episode! fifty thousand characters, at least ten subplots, and somehow, entertaining in spite of it.

i AM furious at dean "not knowing" the achilles heel reference. this is a man who canonically reads homer and who is interested in movies like clash of titans. this is a cheap "hurr hurr dean is stupid" joke made at his expense and i will NOT stand for this 'dean is stupid' slander

the scene where everyone is watching donnatello translate the tablet is so ridiculous that it is entertaining. (additionally how much is on that demon tablet? there's been about twenty different pieces of information on that tablet. how did they find room for it?)

"if you want to stay here then stay here" said to cas when cas' love language is the phrase "i could go with you". dean is still so BRUTAL here and it's still so painful.

at least in the fight with charlie's demonic angels, EVERYONE is getting their ass kicked. "are any of us winning" is a line that has no business being as funny as it is

ROWENA! MY LOVE! MY GREATEST LOVE! queen of hell is actually the perfect character arc for her. it is so fitting. we also love rowena as a relationship counselor. dean and cas both say "it's fine" like "i love him; talk to HIM". and rowena says "fix it" like it's the easiest thing in the world (and you know what? it could be!). it just kills me HOW MUCH attention was given in the divorce arc to dean and cas' relationship and how integral to the show it was. and then in the last bit of the show it is DROPPED! like a hot potato!

jake abel looked at misha and jensen and said "i do not NEED a coworker; i will have extraordinary chemistry with MYSELF" and then proceeded to do exactly that. but seeing jake abel on my spn screen again after ten years was DELIGHTFUL.

this conversation between dean and sam is why i do not UNDERSTAND this idea that "dean wouldn't want sam to be with someone who was in the life". dean is so openly supportive of sam's relationship with eileen, and he GENUINELY enjoys her company. why is there the idea that dean doesn't support their relationship????

castiel's eyes should ALWAYS flash blue! i also enjoyed the idea of cas being the one to pray to michael for a meeting. and then "i didn't come to beg" like! what a fucking POWER MOVE. my GOD! cas and michael share a lot of good moments in this episode, and it's fun to think about cas, who is this insignificant seraph, finally catching michael's attention.

cas baiting michael into snapping... the BALLS on this angel are unbelievable. but he knows it's the only way he's going to get close enough to michael to make him see the truth! he's so smart! "we didn't bond" whoever told cas that he wasn't funny is a DAMN LIAR. and dean is STILL second-guessing cas! he's still criticizing cas' choices and how he chooses to go about things. annoying!

love how things like getting in and out of purgatory become so ridiculously simple in the later seasons. cas and crowley spend an entire season trying to find purgatory and in s15, michael snaps his fingers and BAM! there it is.

"since when do we get what we deserve" i am WEAK. i know that rich said that the glance to cas wasn't necessarily intentional but it still FEELS intentional.

You somehow managed to evade Sy and everyone else for the better part of a week.  Well,  "managed" is a strong word for how your week went after acting like a complete fool in front of Sy Saturday morning.  

Ever the infuriating gentleman, Sy gave you the rest of Saturday to yourself only after he texted to make sure you got home ok.  And try as you might to avoid him, Jiminy Cricket on your shoulder insisted you needed to reply; if you didn’t, you knew Sy would be standing on your porch quicker than you could blink.  So you allowed yourself one thumbs up emoji, and immediately silenced your phone, sending it to parts unknown across the living room.  

Pulling your clothes from your body, you tossed them at the hamper in the corner of your bedroom on your way to the bathroom. Still refusing to look at yourself in the mirror on your way through, you headed for an excessively long shower that would hopefully clear your head.  You felt like such an idiot for reacting the way you did, an overdramatic fool who needed to get her shit together.  Jolene was counting on you......

 -and you silenced your fucking phone, god you were STILL a melodramatic moron.  

Dripping from the shower, conditioner still in your hair, you nakedly stomped your way through the house and searched for your phone for a good 5 minutes before your shivering fingers found it wedged behind an old text book from college. Wiping your cold wet hand on a nearby throw blanket, you unlocked your phone to find Jolene still hadn’t contacted you. Choosing to unsilence your phone, you sent her a quick check-in message before only silencing Sy's number .  You ignored the disappointment in the hole where your heart was supposed to be when you realized that he hadn't sent you any more messages after your thumbs up.  

With a huff of indignation, you took the phone with you to the bathroom. Sy was an infuriating individual, you reasoned with yourself as you stepped back into the spray of now warm water.  He had the audacity to just come into your life, be the exact person you needed right now, and then unknowingly distract you from mourning your husband by being... his fucking self.  

And then there was your husband.  And the loss of him.  And the rest of your favorite A-team.  

Shaking your head at yourself, you forced yourself to not look past the loss of your husband to stare at the loss of all 5 men on that copter, all of whom you knew you would mourn for the rest of your days.   You needed to focus on the loss of Jake, deal with the ends he left loose, the promises never to be fulfilled, the adventures never to be had together, the years you still had in front of you without him.  You two weren't babies, but you were far from an ancient woman.  You had made so many plans together, places to see, things to taste, sounds to hear, things to feel.  Together.  And now...now if you still wanted all those things, you had to do them without the one person on the planet that you adored with every fiber of your being.  

A horrible sounding sob rang through the bathroom as you allowed yourself to curl into a ball on the floor of the shower.  How were you going to manage without JJ around?   How could this just be it?   How could everything you had with Jake just come to this? A paltry few years together And then nothing. He was always there from the time you were 8.  You had no idea how to function without him.  And this hard ass routine was doing nothing to help.  

Suddenly, you felt so tired, so exhausted.  You felt like you needed to sleep for a month, even though last night you had slept better than you had since Jake's death.  Rinsing yourself off, you finally let yourself admit that you were able to sleep so well because you trusted Aaran Syverson.  You were able to relax enough last night because you knew you were safe. He had done nothing to give you any reason to think his intentions were anything other than honorable.  

He helped you forget what you were going through while still supporting you when it did come to the foreground.  He rolled with you as you wrestled with your grief, and he smiled with you when you were able to put it to the side.  He had found ways to support you that didn't seem overwhelming or suffocating, allowing you to be your own person, deal or not deal with your emotions as you needed, always just an arm's reach away.  But you had to admit to yourself that the horrid voice in the back of your head wasn't completely off track.  You found Sy attractive, but fuck what person with a pulse wouldn't?  

Toweling yourself off , you finally looked at yourself in the mirror.  Meeting your eyes, you let the guilt of his comfort well in your heart.   You had loved Jake Jensen most of your life, you weren't sure what you were supposed to do with the potential feelings for someone else.  Hell you weren't even sure if Sy felt the same way.  Yes, he was a great friend which you needed so deeply right now, could there be more on his side?

You recalled the times he had called you "baby" over the past few weeks, replaying every single one that you could remember.  Friends don't really call each other that, do they?   Maybe they did in Texas?  

His initial concern stemmed from Madre's insistence he bring you food.  But things had well and progressed since that drunken night.  You had to admit to yourself that you doubted yourself around Aaran, you were afraid of what that trust and comfort would turn into.  You were a grieving widow, mourning a man you had known most of your life.   How dare you shift your focus onto a man who you'd known for just a few short months.  You needed to adjust that.  

You called out of work on Monday, continuing to hide from the world.  On Sunday, Jolene had responded to your text that she was fine and that Madre wanted to have you both and Aubrey over on Friday for dinner, and she wasn't taking no for an answer.  It had been over a month since the four of you had gotten together, and you couldn't ever say no to her.  Ever.  

Come Tuesday morning, while waiting in line at your favorite coffee shop, you hazarded a glance at your silenced messages to find that Sy had sent you two.  One was on Monday morning asking how you were, if you were alright and if the two of you  could talk.  The second one had a time stamp of later that day saying he was being sent out the following morning for an unknown amount of time by the Army and if he didn’t have a message from you when he returned, he promised to leave well enough alone.  

You couldn’t stop your heart from sinking to your toes at the thought of another super secret mission, another chance for someone else you cared about getting hurt, or even worse. Glancing at your watch even without knowing what time his debrief was this morning, you were certain his phone was off and tucked away somewhere by now, not to be touched until his return.  Not that you had any idea what to say to him.  Your mind just whirled with all the things you wished you had said to Jake before he left, and none of those seemed appropriate with Sy.  And did you even want him to contact you when he returned?  He was giving you an out, a free and clear out to not deal with whatever the fuck had been building between you.  Should you take it?   

What you did decide to take was another day off from work, claiming another mental health day, which your boss was understanding about, especially after all the ones you didn’t take after the accident.  

The rest of the week you pondered what to send to Sy’s phone, if anything.  You had wanted a break from him so you could clear your mind and focus on the loss of Jake, and what your life now was going to look like.  And instead you spent the week dwelling on what you felt about another man.  World’s best widow right here folks, right here.  

By the time you were on your way to Madre’s Friday night, you were no closer to figuring out what to say to Sy than you were to figuring out what you were going to do now that Jake was gone.   You tried to push all of it aside as the front door opened to reveal the youngest member of your found family, her bright eyes shining the same way Clay’s did when he saw you.  You tried to hold back the tears as Aubrey hugged you close.  Her school schedule made it hard for her to get together with any of you lately and you were so glad she had come tonight.  “Good to see you, munchkin,” you mumbled into her shoulder, as she stood a good head taller than you.  You had known the young woman more than half her life by now, having watched her grow from a gangly preteen into the goddess before you.  

“Good to see you too, Auntie.” Your hug tightened on both sides, both of you acutely aware of your loss, both of you too stubborn to ask for help in your own grief, clinging to each other for a moment of solace and comfort.  

After a few silent moments, you stepped back to place a kiss on the redhead’s cheek.  “How’s school?” you asked, squeezing her hand before stepping further into the house.  “You doing ok with everything?”

Aubrey shrugged as she half led the way through the small house, her heels clicking against the hardwood. “Profs have been pretty understanding with it all.  Forcing myself to focus on school work has helped keep me from losing my mind, ya know?”

You half laughed at her statement. “Oh I do know, munchkin.  I do know.”   You gently squeezed her arm before you reached the threshold of the kitchen where you could hear Jolene and Madre chattering.  “We are here for you…I’m here for you,” you continued.  “You are not in this alone, you know.  I love you,” you said with a choked voice.  “They loved you.”   

Aubrey’s eyes met yours, tears filling both of your visions. “Fuck you,” she muttered lowly, no anger in her tone.  “You had to do that now didn’t you?” She wiped delicately around her eyes, clearly trying not to spoil her well done make up with her well appointed nails.  “God I hate you.” 

You smiled through your own pain. “No you don’t.  Suck it up, buttercup.”

She flipped you off as she headed toward the bathroom. Laughing softly, you entered the kitchen to find the other two women in the room, sharing a story about something.  You kissed Madre’s cheek where she stood at the stove before making your way over to hug Jolene where she sat on a chair, looking stunningly beautiful in all her momma glory.  Not even pausing to interrupt the conversation, you grabbed the stack of plates and silverware on the counter and made your way to the dining room, putting yourself to work, helping where you could. 

After settling the fifth plate down, you realized Madre must have miscounted as she pulled them out tonight.  It happened. You set it to the side as you started putting out the forks, quickly realizing there were five of them as well. Wait….

There was a knock on the front door as you literally did the math.  After the door opened, heavy booted footsteps were heard as your heart sped up.  Aubrey’s squeal echoed from the front hallway as a familiar voice rumbled off the walls. “Hello, beautiful,” Sy told her. 

“Haven’t seen you in ages,” the young girl admitted, with joy in her voice.  You heard them hug and you suddenly remembered the conversation you and Sy had at your kitchen table all those weeks ago.  A new emotion entered your stomach, swirling with all the others, one you didn’t particularly like the flavor of-  jealousy.  Had Sy and Aubrey really slept together? Was that the history he and Clay had?  

“Was very sorry to hear about your dad, kiddo,” Sy mumbled softly.  Kiddo.  That was the same nickname Clay had for you.  And there’s nothing untoward between you and the Colonel.  That surely was the same for these two, right?   Your brain and your anxiety stormed, trying to make sense of everything. 

“Thank you.  I appreciate that,” she said as the two of them entered the dining room on their way to the kitchen.  You swallowed hard as your eyes met Sy’s.  With steely eyes that gave nothing away, he gave you a solitary nod before following Aubrey into the kitchen. 

Guess you now knew who the fifth plate was for.

Heaven's Demons, Chapter 34

Word Count:  2k 

Warnings:  angst, mentions of death, mentions of going off the deep end. 

“Five more minutes,” she whimpered, feeling the bed dip from the weight being pressed to its corners.  No one responded and Sweetie clung to the pillow that smelled like Jake.  She gave a relieved sigh, burying her nose into it.  But she froze when she felt his arms wrap around her waist.  He pressed a series of small kisses along the juncture of her neck and across her shoulders, “Jake…”

“The boys are eating breakfast if you want to join them,” he answered, his voice muffled between the kisses that had moved across the back of her shoulders and to her spine.  She shivered and shifted in his arms until she was facing him.  He had a silly smile on his face, “or…you know…we could stay in bed…I do love a good breakfast in bed.”

She sighed, pushing Jake lightly away from herself, “the last time you brought French toast in he-“

“I was talking about eating you,” he said simply, cutting her off with a firm kiss to her lips.  She all but melted into his touch as the biker’s hand reached up and stroked her cheek, “you’ve worked so hard to take care of us, Sweetie…”

“I told you; Steve would help me out…” she said in a small voice.  Jake gave her a sad look and she reached up, grasping his chin, “he said you’re out…and that it’s fine, Jake…Steve-“

“Is your ex,” he reminded her, “he’s probably still not convinced that Dylan and Mikey aren’t his.”

She looked away from him and Jake’s eyes widened, “they’re not his, are they?” 

“It was a foursome, okay?” she said quietly, looking away from him, “I always just assumed that they were Lucas’ because they look like him.  I mean, that was the reason that we broke up.”

“Mikey and Dylan don’t look like him…they look like Steve…” Jake said softly, “that’s probably why he helped…I mean…with Cairo and Lucas they looked like him.  Identical little versions…your boys don’t even look identical.”

“They’re not…” she said softly, “I mean, sure…okay.  They look like Steve a little.  They have the same eyes as him…but the hair color could have been from my side.”

“How much of a chance is there that those kids aren’t Fonzies?” She refused to look at him and he sighed, ”Sweetie?”  

“A good chance…but Lucas didn’t care…he wanted to call them his boys…and he helped me raise them.”

“So, you mean to tell me that those twins might be the president of the entire club?” he asked, his eyes suddenly wide, “no wonder we don’t have to fucking hide out in the safehouse.  I’m surprised he didn’t gut me on arrival.”

“You just don’t know Steve like I do…”

“Ell…Steve is fucking dangerous…”

“Steve and I have an understanding,” she reminded him, “he knows his lines and I know mine.  He doesn’t want to be a dad, and he was cool with Lucas claiming them as his own.  Just like he is cool with you walking away from the club…especially when Andy was pushing that shit into your system.  Steve may not be all there all the time, but he has a moral compass.  He won’ hurt us.”

“He’s gonna kill me, isn’t he?” Jake asked nervously, no longer lost in the sensual moment from just minutes ago.  His hand carded through his hair as he felt his anxiety rising in his chest, “it was way too easy to-“

“Jake…it’s fine…trust me…”

“Baby…he won’t let us-“

“I have something he wants, Jake…trust me.”

“I trust you….I jus-“

But Jake was cut off by a loud slam from the front door, and a few pieces of glass breaking. 

“WATCH WHERE THE FUCK YOU THROW SHIT!” an authoritative voice yelled, “CAN’T YOU GOD DAMNED IDIOTS SEE THE TODDLERS IN THEIR BOOSTER SEATS?”

Jake shot up, his heart going a mile a minute.  He looked back to Sweetie who gave a heavy sigh, “he was supposed to come around noon…”

“ELLIE! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?”

“COMING STEVE!”

She rolled her eyes, getting up out of bed.  She didn’t stop to look back until she reached the door.  Jake was still in the bed, shell-shocked to his spot next to where she’d been laying.

“Are you coming?”

“Sweetie…I need to know what’s going on…right now.”

“ELLIE!”

“DAMN IT, STEVE!” she yelled, opening her bedroom door.  Steve longingly stared at his ex-girlfriend.  The biker pushed a few strands of the dirty blonde hair that had fallen in front of his face backwards. 

Mikey and Dylan looked between their mom, and the bikers that had gathered by the door and in the kitchen.  While bikers weren’t an odd sight for them, they were looking to her for direction on how to behave.  Cherry had wild eyes as one of them had her cornered near the stove. 

“Brock, back off…”

The man chuckled and took a few steps back, “got yourself a nice little nanny for the boys there, princess?  Cap footing the bill for this too?”

“Steve’s not paying for her, Brock.”

The man gave her a sideways glance before chuckling and taking a few steps towards her.  He was quick to wrap her up in his arms, “good to see you, sis…”

“I wish I could say the same,” she smirked, punching her older brother’s arm, “I swear…you get uglier every time I see you.”

“No worse than you…”

She smiled, and he backed off, looking to the kids, “you guys remember me?  You were itty bitty when I saw you last…”

“They look healthy,” Steve commented, nodding to the twins.  Sweetie shrugged, “got somewhere we can talk about the situation?”

She nodded and Steve made a gesture for his guys to stay back, while he followed Sweetie to the bedroom.  He sneered when she opened the door and he saw Jake inside.

“Gearz…”

“Cap…”

“Get the hell out,” he grumbled, “I need to talk to Ellie…”

Jake was quick to get up, but Sweetie grabbed his arm.  Steve shot her a look and she shook her head, “He’s my old man, Steve…and he can give you details on what Barber and Butcher have been doing to run their chapter into the mud.”

Steve’s jaw clenched, but he sat down on the bed, looking expectantly at the couple.  When Jake didn’t speak, he glared at him, “Ellie told me he’s pushing drugs…but not the ones I’m supplying him with for the prisons…”

Jake nodded, “something up from a place called meth mountain.  I don’t know all the details, but it’s one of the club members exes that runs the suppliers.   He’s a-“

“He?” Steve scoffed, shooting Ellie a look before turning back to Jake, “fuck…we’re okay with this being out now?  When I fucked Buck back in the day our dad’s nearly beat us to hell’s doorstep and back.”

“…yeah…. Charles is a junkie…well, was a junkie.  But he was sober,” Sweetie said sadly, “he set up a plan for us to all come to the safehouse an-“

“Then where the fuck is he, Ellie?”

“I think Andy got him hooked once he realized Jake and I disappeared,” she admitted, “probably gave him back to his ex-boyfriend Nigel when he went up to meth mountain to get a friend that had gone back to using.”

Steve gave a heavy sigh and shook his head, “that all you know?”

“Cherry ran away with us,” she replied quickly, “she was originally supposed to be Bucky’s old lady, but she told us she made a deal with Levi…. but she didn’t want to stick around.  Not after she saw what Barber and Butcher were doing to Gearz…”

Steve nodded thoughtfully, “okay…”

“Steve…I wouldn’t have approached you for nothing,” she said quickly, “you know that…but I promised you when the boys were born if I ever felt like they were in danger I’d leave.  You told me you would protect them even without the paternity test…that town is about to be a blood bath if it isn’t already one…and I didn’t want anything happening to Dylan or Mikey…”

Steve nodded his head, deep in thought, and Jake realized that her not knowing the twin’s paternity was what she had on him.  And while Steve Rogers never expressed any interest in being ‘tied down’ or having an official old lady, those he treated like family were untouchable.  It’s why he personally never had an issue with Junkyard Dogs.  It’s why he ran half the Eastern and Western seaboards. 

“And he’s out?”

Sweetie nodded, “I want him out…”

“But do you want out?”

Jake felt the anxiety bubbling back up as he looked between Sweetie and Steve.  He swallowed the lump in his throat, and he nodded. 

“I’ve got a house in my name…just in case anything ever happened, and you contacted me…for you and the boys,” Steve admitted softly.  He cracked his knuckles and gave her another sad look, “you did the right thing coming to me, El…”

“I didn’t have a choice, Steve…not after I saw Jake locked up in the basement…”

“They shot me up so much I barely remember the beginning of it anymore,” Jake admitted, “I-I remember it was around the time of my concussion…but I don’t remember a lot of what I did…”

Jake stopped speaking, his mind instantly going to the memory of when they shot him up and sent him out with a gun to ‘scare’ Lily and Alice.  Sweetie was quick to grasp his hand and give it a reassuring squeeze.

“Something already happened…didn’t it?”

“Barber made me pull a drive-by on his and Butcher’s old ladies to scare them because they didn’t want to be part of the lockdown…” Jake admitted, a few tears falling down his cheeks, “I-I didn’t hit his kid…but I shot his old lady…and Butchers…”

“Butcher nearly beat him to death because the bullet grazed his old lady and she miscarried.”

Steve took a deep breath and pulled a cigarette from his pocket. 

“They say I’m fucking crazy,” he grumbled, shaking his head as he took a long drag, “you got those drugs in your system still?”

Jake shook his head quickly. 

“No,” Sweetie answered, “I’ve detoxed him…it’s been three weeks since we ran, Steve…”

“Well then…you should know that I heard from Levi…some more shit has happened since then….” He admitted, “Barber called me to come down because of conflict with the Junkyard Dogs…they cut the brakes on Fonzie’s old lady’s car…his boys weren’t wearing seat belts and died…”

Sweetie gasped, her hands leaving Jakes as they rushed to cover her mouth, “oh god…”

“Your information checks out though El…” Steve said slowly, “I’m going down to figure out what the hell’s going on…gonna take your brother and a few more guys with me…but I’m going to send Clint and Bruce with you…they’re going to make sure you, Gearz, and the boys get up to the house okay…and they’re going to stay with you until I get back…”

“Steve…we don-“

He held his hand up, effectively cutting her off, “Ellie…I told you I’d take care of you, baby.  I know what we had was just some hookups inside of a swinging relationship…but I care about you…just like I care about Mikey and Dylan…now, you know I don’t want nothing serious…can’t have that in my position, but I’m not going to let anyone hurt you or my boys.  I don’t need a fucking test to tell me they’re not Lees, they’re Rogers.  No one is going to touch you baby.  I am not going to let Barber go off the deep end and try to find any of you…”

She nodded and he stood.  She reached out and he pulled her to his chest, “thank you, Steve.”

“Wait?” Jake asked, re-thinking about the words that he’d heard Steve say, “you said me, the boys, and Sweetie…what about Cherry?”

“She’s going to be coming with me,” Steve said solemnly, “I’ve never had a problem with Buck…but he’s only the VP.  I know Cherry is their president’s daughter, and if she’s gone missing-“

“Steve…she can’t go back.”

“Sorry baby…but not everyone gets a happy ending,” he shrugged, stomping out his cigarette.  Then he looked to Jake, “you ever hurt her or my boys…a hair on any of their fucking heads is so much as out of place and I’ll end you.”

“Steve…”

“Give me a reason, Gearz…”

Wondering about other people opinions on something. What are your favourite times our main characters were played by other actors, your favourite times our main actors played their character as someone else, like possessed or whatnot, favourite times they were in an altered state and what were your least fav instances of any of these.

1. Colin Ford as young Jared. He just nailed it so well when I read young Sam fics I picture CF.

2. The actor who played young Dean at the boys home and when Dean is de-aged must have studied Jensen because he also was just so Dean to me. Also shout out to the actor who played him in after school special he was also great.

3. Young John and Mary. I just loved them. This shows casting department was just so phenomenal on all levels.

HM to the woman Crowley possessed and had the orgy. She was awesome, lol.

Even without the blue eye flash I knew which character was on the screen. even when he faked Dean out at the end there were differences.

2. Dean/Jen as Michael. Omg he made that character awesome. I also liked Jake and Matt in the role but Jensen just killed it. Au Michael wasn't bad either just not as good and gets blown out of my head after Jen.

3. Misha/Cas as Lucifer. I really like how Misha channelled MP in his Lucifer. I mean I absolutely love jareds Lucifer too but I'm going to give it to Misha here.

Adding a 4th here which is John as Azazel. JDM was so good I got chills the first time I watched it.

HM to Jared/Sam playing Gary, the kid in the body swap. God Jared made me laugh in an EP I don't even care for other than that performance.

Fav other version.

1 and 2 tie. Soulless Sam and Demon Dean. First the hotness of both like, wow. Also both actors just nail these versions of their characters. The acting in both cases was phenomenal IMO and both characters crack me up.

3. Crazy Sam. season seven broken Sam was spectacular to me. The journey he goes through in his mind and finally as his body deteriorates from the no sleep and mental damage "Lucifer" is inflicting were played so well. The writers kind of dropped the ball a bit in the middle of the season but Jared was always spot on. Born again identity is on my (too large) favourites list because I can feel Sam's exhaustion and what he's going through. Love it.

HM to Misha with Crazy Cas. Another thing I loved in season seven and still wish I could have had more of. Oh man Cas and the Bees and just all of it, wonderful.

HM to purgatory Dean. While not altered like being a demon I think they wrote Dean in such a great way showing the impact a year in nothing but survival mode did to Dean. I like how Jensen plays him as almost having PTSD, jumpy and just always on and taking everything in like he can't quite relax. Another one that should have lasted longer and got looked at deeper.

Ok least fav.

1. This isn't just a least fav but an I hate... I hated AU Cas. The Nazi or German or whatever accent is nails on a chalkboard to me. I just can't. Was Jimmy Novak not American in the AU, lol.

2. I was also not real fond of The Empty Cas. Liked meg as the empty but not Misha's take.

3. Ok nothing else is jumping to mind so I'm not going to sit and think and look for a third which is probably out there and not popping in my head , lol. I feel bad that the two I immediately thought of were both Misha but I can't help it I really really did not like those acting choices, whether they were his or the directors or writers it just didn't work for me.

Hm. Oh I just thought I could say Jared possessed by meg. Not that I didn't like it at all but just that it wasn't as good as other possessions.
