I said that:
Classic Doom doesn't need a remake, partially because of various fan attempts and at best official games could cherrypick certain things and "remaster" them while being whole new games.
D3 doesn't need a remake, it needs a proper re-release and if there's more to do with Doom and horror, just try a new game even if it's a spin-off that doesn't get in the way of the Slayer games.
(And other things in those 2 posts in general)
And it also made me realize: Doom is a series that has different interpretations, meaning making another reboot isn't out-of-field (Even if a follow up to Eternal would still be cool).
With remakes, you want to make sure that the original games are still accessable.
And even if a remake is good, you don't want to give the impression of trying to replace the original.
So i think in general remakes should make people want to try both versions of a game.
In a way, i prefer if a remake tries to be its very own thing to the point it even has huge alterations related to things like core gameplay and story.
Like an alt timeline retelling.
I just saw Persona 3 Reloaded having new designs for the SEES team and it felt like a fun addition.
People would still have to find ways to experience FES or P3P in modern times, but at least a new version of P3 is still doing something new.
Otherwise, you risk a situation where a remake suffers not just because it's different but also because it's not different enough... if you get what i'm saying.
Like Demon Souls in the PS5 having an inferior art style while the PS3 original is still stuck in that console.
So a weird extreme idea in mind was: The only way a "Doom remake" makes sense is if there's more than one.
And each "Doom remake" does something different in terms of level layout, aesthetics, enemies, guns, special effects and other features.
Maybe even how Doomguy's face looks like or remastering music and the end level stats screen.
Because again, Doom is a series that can be fun because of the many ways it's interpretated, both officially and in fan content.
This sounds like either milking the series with too many pointless entries or making a single game with too much content.
Because depending on how different a "Doom remake" would be, might as well make it a new experience.
And at that point, it'd almost be as if they'd try to make a recurring fanfic official, so it's as if there's a logic of "all or nothing".
Or almost like how Tetris itself has a lot of versions.
Even then, it'd always preferable if a new game is its own thing and just happens to return some stuff.

PlayStation 5 Surpasses 32 Million Units Shipped Thanks to Its Best Quarter Since Launch
Sony's latest financial results covering Quarter 3 of Fiscal Year 2022, which consists of the last three months of the year, reveal the PlayStation 5 had its best quarter on the market yet.
The company has surpassed 32 million PS5 units shipped, sitting roughly at 32.1 million, after shipping 7.1 million during the last three months of 2022. It's important to note this isn't a sell-through number so theoretically, there could be consoles sitting on shelves still. But a company ships more units when the demand is there, so it's likely that the majority of these shipped consoles were sold.

Knockout City and Crossfire X are the latest live service titles confirmed to be shutting down
There's been a lot of news of live service games that are shutting down, with Knockout City and CrossfireX being the latest titles added to the pile.
Earlier this week, Velan Studios announced that its dodgeball brawler Knockout City would be wrapping up after Season 9, with global servers being shuttered June 6. Velan Studios announced the news in a blog post, writing, "This was an extremely difficult decision for us, but a necessary and important one for our studio… Despite over 12 million players and billions of KOs around the globe, there are several aspects of the game in need of major disruption to better attract and retain enough players to be sustainable. Since we are a small, indie studio, it’s simply impossible for us to make those kinds of systemic changes in the live game while continuing to support it."
Smilegate also announced this week in its own blog post that CrossfireX will no longer be supported from May 18.

Shadow Warrior 3 Is Getting A Free PS5 And Xbox Series X|S Upgrade

Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital have announced Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition, a new and upgraded version of the stylish and over-the-top 2022 shooter.
The Definitive Edition version of Shadow Warrior 3 is coming on February 16th as a new release or a free update to existing owners of the game on relevant platforms.
It not only features updated visuals with 60fps and 4K options on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but also comes with a host of other enhancements like haptic feedback on PS5, new challenging modes and difficulties, chapter select and New Game+ options and more. The gameplay enhancements and new modes will also come to the PC as a free Definitive Edition update.

New PS5, PS4 Games This Week (29th August to 4th September) In any case, it's always something that we try to keep in mind, but I'd like to think that price usually doesn't have a significant impact on how we review/score games. It's definitely a tricky subject, and it can sometimes be difficult to gauge because most of the games we review, we get for free. That's obviously when price can be a major talking point as well. I suppose it's only natural.īut it's another problem that reviews have these days, in that they might only be relevant for a relatively short period of time around launch. I think price becomes more of an issue with games that are lacking in quality, or have questionable DLC practices.īut like you suggest, I think there's a tendency to be more forgiving of a game that has a cheaper price point. If a game is amazing but only 5 hours long at £60, the price probably isn't going to knock a point off or anything like that. Wed 13th Oct We do take the price into account, yeah, but not to a huge extent.And, if you do fancy more of a challenge, you can always try the 'hard' versions of each fight. These battles aren't especially difficult, but they're always a spectacle. You'll have to dodge incoming attacks, time your own attacks so that you're not left open, and nail cinematic button presses to best the biggest baddies. Demon Slayer becomes less of a fighting game and more of a straightforward action title, which helps mask some of its less developed gameplay systems.Īgain, boss fights are the most entertaining and varied encounters. Rather than face off against foes that resemble regular characters, enemies in the story have set attack patterns and unique mechanics. Not necessarily dull - it looks great, at least - but undoubtedly samey.įortunately, the story mode does its best to keep the action engaging. A tightly-timed parry mechanic does add a touch of spice to proceedings - baiting your foe into attacking is always fun - but at the end of the day, combat is pretty one-note. Things get a bit more interesting when you're playing against a human opponent - as always - but even then, you're mostly just waiting for them to make a move before blocking and unleashing the same old combo.

The story starts off with the small skeleton named Skul who had been living with the Demon King as a faithful servant until the human kingdom of Carleon and its Hero attacked the peace-loving king’s domain. The beautiful pixel art style that gives it character, the varied enemies that can keep you on your toes as you slaughter them in the name of saving your masters, the fearsome maids who keep throwing dishes at you until you learn what fear is, there is a lot to admire about this game. Yes we’ve enjoyed our run of Hades and Dead Cells but Skul: The Hero Slayer has a great amount of variety to the titular character in terms of gameplay mechanics that set it apart from its ilk. You’ll obviously need to pay for it, but Skul: The Hero Slayer won’t exactly break the bank, with just a £16.74 price attached.Skul: The Hero Slayer is just another roguelike to add to the list of great roguelikes in recent years.
