Here are the final player characters for my friend's Demon Slayer tabletop campaign! 11 players in total. This won't be all of the character portraits though. I have quite a few that can't be posted yet and a lot that need to be made in the future too!
They stream their sessions on Twitch so if you would like to watch their story unfold or you’re just curious about the tabletop game they’re playing, check them out at PerihelionCreative on Twitch or Breathe & Live on Youtube!

MAGNAGOTHICA: MALEGHAST. A Skirmish Wargame that has inspired a lot in me for both my writings of DISMALIA and my campaign ideas for directing ICONs of DISMALIA tabletop sessions with friends using the ICON rpg system!
The best way to expand narratively on this game, I've discovered, is to combine it with the ICON playtest as an improvised expansion. Considering its anachronistic style, ICON is already a post apocalyptic world, the Ones Before could easily be the Arken Empire, and you can easily place Necromancy as part of the Black Sun Cult that the Relicts worship in the flavor text of ICON. The ICON classes and jobs battling the necromancers and Hunting Demons, the search for the Core of Death itself, possibly an amalgamation of Titan flesh? Which goes beyond death! I'm already working on writing a campaign about it. A lot of my lore for Dismalia, its Demons and Slayers already fit perfectly this type of Aesthetic.

hello! i am here to make a request :) could you write Rengoku x Fem!Reader where reader is a demon slayer that has to work as an oiran in red light district to spy on clients. Reader is selected for this job because she is the only one unmarried.
thank you xoxo
AH this is such a cute idea because Kyo is such a GENTLEMAN!
-----
Your fingers are calloused from all of your years as a Demon Slayer, so the scrubbing doesn’t bother you so much.
Your hands are red and knuckles white against the brush. Of course, you’ve been going back and forth across the same spot for over an hour now, so it’s already glittering– but the wall is thin between this room and the next. Perfectly conducive to eavesdropping. So, what’s a few hundred extra floor scrubbings if it means getting valuable info for the Corps?
“...aren’t as skilled as the ones in Yoshiwara.” The client is sighing.
You hear your manager scrambling. “Ah, that can’t possibly be true! Besides, Yoshiwara is dangerous!”
The client snorts.
You have to crane your neck with your ear against the shoji to hear your manager continue. “..’s true,” she says, hushed. “I’ve heard that attractive young men and women turn up missing all the time.”
That’s not the first the Corps has heard this rumor. What you’re interested in, is if it could be a–
“Pfft, ‘demons?’ You really think you can scare me into buying an oiran in this small town?”
You hear footsteps approaching your room from down the hallway. But you need to hear what your manager says next.
“If you want to risk your life, fine…” Her indignant snort is muffled through the wall.
The footsteps are closer. Tip, tip tip.
“..but don’t come crying back to me when the Red Light Princess eats you for dinner.”
“Red Light Princess.” That’s a new one. Perhaps some of the other slayers should investigate Yoshiwara.
Tip, tip, tip–
You’re able to jump back into a tabletop position just in time, huddled over your floorbrush as the Tayu steps into the room.
“Ah, there you are, [Y/N],” she smiles. You look up, pretending not to have noticed her entering. “Please, come with me.”
You bow your head politely and leave the brush on the bucket. The Tayu spins around and begins back down the hallway, and you follow.
“Is everything alright, madam?” You’ve quickly put back on the mask of a sweet, innocent courtesan.
The house Tayu doesn’t look up, but continues gliding forward with perfect posture. “It seems you have made quite the impression in town, already.”
Your stomach churns. You’ve only been here a week, but haven’t been called by clients. There’s no way you could have done anything to blow your cover yet, right?
“What do you mean, madam?”
She stops in her tracks to turn to you. Her smile is saccharine when she says, “You are being summoned by a client. He has asked for you by name.”
You must visibly blanch, because her gaze turns sympathetic.
“Ah, do not fear,” the Tayu chuckles. “This will be your first, no?”
The Tayu continues down the hall and gives you “friendly and helpful” reminders over how to entertain the client for the night. You’re not worried about pouring tea, or playing shamisen, or making intellectual conversation. You’re worried about the fact that, fundamentally, a client could ask for… other services.
Of course you understood this when you accepted the mission. It’s just, the plan was always to lay low, and not stand out, so that this possibility could be avoided.
You’re so lost in your thoughts, that somehow you miss the boisterous laugh echoing from the front of the house.
“That is him,” the Tayu says, snapping you out of your thoughts. “Are you ready?”
You nod and smile. Thankfully, your years of demon-slaying have helped you school your emotions enough for your face to stay blank as you step out of the hallway.
Because there, surrounded by giggling women, with his arms folded, and a smile from ear to ear, is the flame hashira Kyojuro Rengoku.
The Tayu bows politely and hands you off. “[Y/N] will guide you to your room for the night, sir.”
“WONDERFUL!” Kyojuro shouts, earning another giggle from the crowd of women around him. “Thank you very much!”
You say nothing to Kyojuro as you lead him away from the entryway and into the house, but you can feel his owl-eyed stare boring into you the entire time.
Finally, when you’re in the guest’s quarters, you slide the door behind you and spin to him.
“Rengoku!” You hiss, and then bow. “I mean– It’s a pleasure to see you– but what’s wrong? Why are you here? I thought I was only supposed to communicate with the corps through crow?”
“NOT TO WORRY!” He booms, and you stare daggers at him. His eyes bulge. “Ahem. Not to worry!” he corrects, now in a whisper. “I am not here on official demon slayer business!”
You raise your eyebrow at the way he sets his pack of belongings on the floor. “Then… why are you here?”
“To be frank, I was worried about you!” Kyojuro offers you the biggest, sweetest smile. And suddenly your face goes red. And all of a sudden you’re acutely aware of how you’re dressed, all of the makeup plastered on your face, and the fact that you and him are alone in a pleasure room together.
You brush your hair away from your face, turning so that the flame hashira (hopefully) cannot see the blush flaring your cheeks. “I– I appreciate the sentiment, really. But there don’t seem to be any demons here? And even if there were, did you not think I could handle myself?”
“Quite the opposite!” He assures, catching himself before he grew too loud again. “If it were a demon, I would not be worried at all. But I was quite uncomfortable hearing that you were sent to work undercover as an oiran.”
“B-but–” you stutter over yourself. Kyojuro really came here just to make sure you were okay? Suddenly it’s way too hot in the dress you’re in. “Kyojuro, by being here, you could compromise my cover!”
He shakes his head vigorously. “Not to worry! I had the house women convinced I am but a simple patron who was enraptured by your beauty!”
Your throat works.
By all means, he shouldn’t be here. But sending him away now would make you even more suspicious. And yet, you can’t seem to convince yourself that you even want to send him away.
“Moreover,” he adds, and his tone has changed. When you turn up to see his gaze, his expression is solemn. “The thought of you being forced to participate in unseemly activities for the corps is deeply unsettling. I would not want you treated so indecently.”
Your brain has frozen.
Your… your duty is to stay and collect information for the Corps. So you should. Right?
Suddenly Kyojuro steps forward and places his hands on your shoulders. Your heart stops. It’s not until he gently guides you away from the wall that you realize you’ve glued yourself there the entire time.
“[Y/N],” he whispers. “Your honor is more important for me to protect than your cover.”
He slides his thumb across your cheek and you realize you’re crying. And now that you’re aware of the hot tears on your face, they seem to overflow.
You try speaking but it turns into a shaky hiccup for air.
“I am sorry you were selected for this mission.” His voice is soft and sincere.
You shake your head. “It’s– it’s alright.” You try and sound confident through the tears, but the truth is, this is the first time you’ve even thought about how you felt being on this mission.
Kyojuro chuckles. “It does not seem that way to me.”
He smiles at you, and he’s bright and safe and warm. You lean your forehead into his chest. He responds by wrapping his arms around you. His uniform and haori smell of smoke and ash– and it’s comforting, being cradled by his scent.
He holds you until you steady your breathing through the tears. Finally, he whispers into your hair: “Have you found enough information to leave yet?”
You shake your head. “Kyojuro, I’ve only been here a week–”
Your eyes widen as he presses his finger to your lips. “That is not what I asked, little flame.”
You sigh as he lowers his hand from your chin. “I I have reason to believe there are demons in the Yoshiwara red-light district.”
He smiles, and you can practically see his eyes overflowing with pride. “See? I knew you would make quick work of this mission!”
You shake your head. “But, Kyojuro, that doesn’t mean I can just leave–”
“If I recall correctly,” he interrupts, and you feel his arms around your back pulling you closer. Your breath hitches as you’re pressed into him. “A client can request to marry a courtesan, correct? And, with the appropriate dowry, she is able to leave the house.”
You blink. “Are… are you proposing to me?!”
He laughs. “Not to worry! I would actually propose to you in a more beautiful place than this. This is a means to an end.”
You try to process the meaning behind his words. But, between the heat of his arms around your back and the way he’s smiling at you, you can’t seem to put together any logical thoughts right now.
“So, what if I ask the manager to marry you in the morning? Then, once we leave, I will treat you to a dinner! And we can report back to the demon slayer corps together.”
“I…” your heart won’t slow down. “I suppose that would work. But you’re sure–”
“Absolutely.” He smiles at you again, and cups your cheek. “Unless, the thought of being betrothed to me is that unbearable?”
You shake your head, perhaps more eagerly than you intended, because he laughs.
Then, he brushes hair behind your ear, and his fingers are gentle and tender. Every nerve in your body is on fire.
“Then,” he says, voice in a low whisper, “let’s get married, little flame.”

so hear me out right (and this is by no means a smart blog post thing, im just rambling at 2am)
a lot of combat heavy ttrpgs (D&D4e, PF2e, ICON, Lancer, Panic! At The Dojo) rely a lot on keywording and mechanical definitions to create this interlocking (and hopefully well-oiled) combat engine that rewards good tactical choices and forward thinking. 4e needs you to know that Ranged Attacks Provoke Opportunity Attacks, and so you need to move away first to avoid that (often by spending their Move action to Shift). this goes for other games as well. ICON needs you to know that if an Ability does not have the "Attack" tag then its explicitly not an attack, even if it deals damage. This is important because some classes and abilities benefit from not attacking, such as the Demon Slayer
the far end of this is PF2e, where almost everything is Keyworded. Classes, Races, even Feats have keywords, and some keywords have Keywords in them. this is not bad design in my opinion: mastery of this keywording can create for some really cool effects (and you can feasibly design something very BotW which also depends on a lot of interactions between elements).
now consider that so much of tactics trpgs (that is, Traditional/Tabletop Role-Playing Games) rely on so much of that interaction to create fulfilling scenarios. most of the time this is because tactics rpgs also depend on build-crafting. there are a lot of tactics trpgs that don't really care about build crafting or has less of a focus on it to focus instead on the grid combat: games like Rune, Valiant Quest, maybe even Blood Neon, so im explicitly talking about the variety of tactics trpgs that are build-centered: basically anything that comes from the vein of Fourth Edition Dungeons and Dragons
one of my favorite parts about TTRPGs is that you can play them based off of the fiction. writing Gubat Banwa, I understand that sometimes you have to create that fiction, especially if its not one thats well-represented. the created fiction or genre is the blueprint from which the play-fiction arises during the game: that's the fire-like collective imagination that arises from play.
There's a design and play philosophy (common among OSR, PbtA, and FitD) known as Fiction-First. This means that you follow what happens in the fiction first before the mechanics or anything else. Not to preserve the integrity of a "narrative" but rather, to preserve the integrity of the fiction.
What would a Fiction-First Tactics TRPG look like? This is something I tried to set out to do with Gubat Banwa. I haven't really succeeded, as of 1e.3.
so i've been thinking lately. What if a game was Fiction-First? It would work similarly to the Keywording of PF2e, but more open-ended in its interpretation.
Look at the Panabas from PF2e (a weapon present in SEAsia! From the Malay Archipelago all the way to the Philippine Archipelago). It has the Forceful (your second attack on your turn gains +X (X = damage dice, third up gets +2X.), Sweep (+1 to attack if youve alr targeted a separate character), and Two-Hand d10 (roll a d10 when you wield with both hands) tags.
I'm not going to be translating these one for one, but let's use the fiction-first style of writing and mechanics i'm concocting:
Panabas. A heavy blade. Using this, you strike with Bravery. The forward-curving blade can chop through tree, bone, and bramble.
Heavy Blade is a weapon type, so this is classic keywording. The text afterwards is also keywording: striking with Bravery means you roll your Bravery stat when making attacks with it. All well and good: there's always going to be some classical keywording in there as necessity (its this entanglement of mechanic and fiction that's made me love PbtA anyway).
The later text is more important, because say then I made an enemy like:
Walking Tree. A tree that uproots itself, and whistles to kill victims. Made of wood, so they lose 1 Stamina when they suffer chopping attacks. If they're struck by flame, they start burning. [Insert other combat-important stats here].
Now the fact that the panabas can chop through trees interacts with the description of the walking tree being vulnerable to chopping attacks.
Now these really aren't too different from the concept of keywording (really they're in the same concept park), the different thing is two things:
You can now apply that chopping quality to anything in the fiction. Find some brambles on your way, maybe even brambles as hindering terrain? Then spend a Beat to attack it to remove it! That's fiction first after all
It's easier to understand just at first glance with just natural language.
The important part here is natural language. In Play, a lot of the time, my players love picking up on little things about lore-bites of the items and techniques they have and seeing how that can apply to the fiction. So this is more of that: weapons, items, techniques, armor all become things that establish fiction. When two fictions interact, a new fiction arises!
Burning: A status effect. While you're burning, lose 1 Stamina when you start your Break. You lose burning when you're doused by water or you take time to remove it. Improvise: (A basic action). Do anything that does not inherently harm, as long as it makes sense in the fiction, and doesn't take more than 4 seconds to do (Beats take up 4 seconds). You can use this to stop drop and roll to get rid of Burning. Deep Water. -1 Elevation. Water reaches up to your shoulders. Moving into deep water costs +1 Speed.
Of course there's still going to be mechanical descriptions there, we're not going for FKR full just fiction thing. We're just blending fiction into the game part. Even PbtA still has stats and rolling and mechanics to further support their fiction.
I wanted to write this so that techniques and other widgets can be written with fictional wording in mind, and that wording would affect how its used in tactical grid combat. A technique that says: "You are surrounded by a barrier of tornado-force winds. Any attack from outside your adjacency is swept away, unless it cannot be buffeted by winds." Becomes a mechanical thing: perhaps a spell of concentrated curses pierces through this, but not arrows or weak fireballs?
The Arbiter
The last piece of the puzzle will almost always be: who arbitrates the fiction? There almost always needs to be a final word. For GuBa, this is the Umalagad, not so impartial arbiter. For Solo Play, this is still the Umalagad, but as the oracle: they ask a question, ie, "Would this area of effect attack be buffeted by the wind barrier if the origin point starts from outside?" and they would roll a d10. On a 6+, the answer is no, the target would not be buffeted because the flames overwhelm. On a 5-, the answer would be yes, it is buffeted because the target is not the brunt of the attack. And the final answer becomes the ruling for the rest of that scene.
Last last thing is this particular rule that sets things down that I might put into Gubat Banwa:
The Law of Phenomenon Pay close attention to the words that you have. These words will decide whether your blade can chop down a tree, or your abaka weave blunts edged strikes, but susceptible to piercing spears. These words will decide whether your dazzling spell can daze opponents, or if the opponent you fight ignores it due to them not depending on their senses to fight. The words establish the fiction. The fiction is the world in which your characters live: follow it always.

Tell me ur latest obsessions
Aw man okay hang on
1. Buggy is still my #1 obsession. Not even so much One Piece, just Buggy the Clown. And I never cared for clowns until I saw him on the live action and was like "fuck is he supposed to be hot?" And here I am over 6 months later.
2. I love making homemade butter. I even bought a small tabletop butter churn but it doesn't do a good job so I use my KitchenAid mixer. Just throw in heavy cream and then the mixer on. You'll have butter after the heavy cream turns into whipped cream and it keeps going. Once you hear a sloshy noise you got butter!
3. I'm constantly looking up recipes that make me think of what hobbits would eat. I then will cook for myself mostly because my brother is sort of a vegetarian and my mom mostly will eat what I cook but not always.
4. Also this is a bad obsession but I am trying to collect all of these cute lil blind bag Demon Slayer characters. I'm missing Tengen. I have everyone else. I keep getting duplicates at this point. I just want my flashy boy.
5. At some point I'm gonna start cooking over the fire with cast iron. I just have to re-dig out my fire pit and probably re-season my cast iron but it's coming.
6. Visiting Japan again is big. I went in January this year and I loved it. I was there for a week which was perfect for the first time but next time will probably be 2 weeks and we will see more of the country than just Tokyo.
I think that's all 👀

Demon Slayer Advent Calendar | Day 22 | Sanemi x Reader | Game Night
Tumblr media
Written by me!
~~~
It was a peaceful evening. While the snow poured down dancing on the ground and covered everything in white, you sat inside with your fiancé and a few of his friends in the warmth of the Wind Pillar mansion. You had suggested having a game night. You were used to your family inviting friends and family over in the cold days of December and playing a few board games. So Sanemi invited 2 pillars, the trio and, with a heavy heart, his brother too. You had prepared small snacks, which the Flame Pillar almost single-handedly devoured. But you weren't angry about it. You didn't know Kyojuro any differently.
You were all sitting together at a big table. You thought the game 'Ludo' suited your fiancé Sanemi best. You weren't quite sure whether he understood the meaning of the game. There were eight of you and you split into four teams of two, as there were only four colors. Sanemi and you, Tengen and Kyojuro. Tanjiro and Genya. And Zenitsu and Inosuke.
Luck wasn't on your side today. Your players were thrown more than they came out of their shells. They didn't get much further than the first corner either. You put the blame on Sanemi. After all, he chose the cube. You couldn't see it, but a volcano was boiling inside you. You wrote a note to yourself that you would rip Sanemi's head off after the evening.
Sanemi naturally vented his anger. You had played countless rounds and you had always been the absolute losers. In all those rounds, you hadn't managed to get a single player to the finish line. You vowed to burn the game after that day and never touch one again in your life. Sanemi was furious. Your nerves were on edge.
You picked up the board and held it up to the face of the pillar of wind. His curses and insults fell silent. He looked back and forth between you and the board, confused.
"Can you read the name of the game...Sanemi?" you asked him, rather annoyed, and literally spat out his name.
"Don't get angry." was his curt reply.
"Aha, very nice that you can read...Then why are you doing the exact opposite?" You were on the verge of losing your nerve. "Sorry...", Sanemi said meekly.
A laugh rang out. Kyojuro couldn't help it. That drove Sanemi up the wall and your anger at Sanemi evaporated for the moment. "Yes, laugh as long as you can. Next time you'll be sick of it." That only made them laugh louder. You slammed the board down on the table and the pieces rolled off the tabletop and scattered to all corners of the room.
"Grrr." you growled, ruffling your hair. If there was one thing you hated, it was losing. You didn't want to tackle the others like that. But you were a bad loser. You just couldn't handle it. The others realized it was time to go and said goodbye to you until only Sanemi and you were left. You collected the pieces and angrily threw them back into the box where they belonged and banished the game to the back of a cupboard.
"I'm sorry. But it's just a game..." Sanemi began, but was interrupted by a death stare from you. He felt a chill run down his spine. He closed his mouth and thought it best to keep quiet before he regretted it. You were done with today and just wanted to go to bed. Like a dog, your fiancé followed you wherever you went. When he tried to set foot in the bedroom, you slapped his bedsheets at his feet.
"D- darling...?" You were visibly angry with him, but the fact that you wanted to ban him from the bedroom scared him a little.
"You're sleeping on the couch tonight, my friend!" You pushed him out of the room and slammed the door in his face. You open it again for a second. "Oh, there's no sex either."
That hit him hard. Poor guy. He needed the sex to calm down again. With his head bent, he went to the couch and threw himself down on it, staring up at the ceiling. He didn't know this violent reaction from you. He didn't know what to do. Should he leave you alone for the night? Or should he dare to enter the lion's den? Should he or shouldn't he? Yes or no? These questions ran through his head the whole time until he finally fell asleep. So were you, until midnight.
Suddenly you wake up and reach for the sheet next to you. You pat it down. Sanemi wasn't there. Then you remembered the game night. You let your face fall into the pillow and sighed. The anger at the pillar of wind had vanished into thin air and you felt quite lonely in the futon. You wanted to be in Sanemi's arms. To feel his warmth. You struggled out of the sheets and trudged to the living room. You melted when you saw Sanemi. The blanket was more on the floor than on him, but he looked so cute when he slept. You didn't hesitate and sat on his hips. You opened his top completely and traced his scars with your fingers. You found him so sexy with his scarred body.
"What's it going to be when it's finished?" Sanemi's dark, rough voice snapped you out of your reverie.
"Um...make-up sex?" You kept stroking his chest with one finger and looked at him shyly. His look at that moment was golden. He looked at you in bewilderment. He hadn't expected that. It would be stupid of him to refuse. He grabbed your hips and spun you around.
"Do you think you deserve this?" he breathed into your ear. Pleasant goose bumps spread across your skin.
"Y-yes...?"
"Do you want it the soft way or the hard way?" He kissed along your neck and his hot breath made you flinch briefly. The question was pretty superfluous. Both you and he liked it a little rougher during sex. But he could also be gentle and tender. If you wanted to be. But you weren't the type for cuddly sex. You both suited each other very well in that respect.
You two had sex even though you two aren't married yet. That was only because Sanemi doesn't want to marry you until all the demons have been destroyed and you can live in peace. Basically, you're as good as married already. After all, you were living together and sleeping together. Sex was used for Sanemi to relax. Just like that night. So you both got over your bad mood and everything was peace, joy and harmony again.
I feel like ppl write the Slayer off too quickly. It should definitely be considered a “Higher Being” within the universe. The Slayer wasn’t just the foil to vampires; all demons feared them. The Slayer’s power was many times more powerful than that of vampires and most demons. And that’s impressive considering it was technically diluted. Sineya was essentially a vampire that protected humans instead of feeding on them - all slayers were. But what I find interesting about Sineya is that she clearly did have emotions. I think that if her community hadn’t been so scared of her, she would’ve been more “human” in her time. And Sineya did kill the last Old One to walk the Earth as well. That’s like a primeval force. The Old Ones are more powerful than Glory. Glory ruled in her Hell Dimension, but the Old Ones and The Powers That Be were the first things created when Good and Evil began in the Universe. The Old Ones went bad and ran The Powers That Be off of Earth. And according to the lil tabletop game they made which they consulted Joss for, Illyria and Jasmine are way above Glory stat wise.
But I really do get annoyed by the Angel series because I feel like they ended up doing more important things than the Slayers - the people whose job it is to protect the world from demons. They were going to hell dimensions and fighting interdimensional conglomerates. It would’ve been so cool to see the Scoobies do that. Angel kinda cheapened the Slayer for me. If this rag-tag group can do all of this, then what do we need the slayer for. And considering that humans using magic were the ones who drove most of the Old Ones off the Earth, I again wonder; what was the slayer needed for? And if humans could get rid of the Old Ones, why the hell were the Powers That Be running away? I mean Jasmine was powerful as hell. She had fallen from Grace but she was still a Power-That-Be. Finally, I wish we’d gotten more of the Shadow Demon itself. Idk I like to think it did care for the Slayer a lot. And I like to think it probably wasn’t all that fond of the Watchers for not really helping any iteration of the slayer seeing most of them die within a year, or allowing them to have any joy in life. Buffy and Charmed are so interesting because we see that demons have capacity to love, and that love really is ambivalent.
THEME: Monster Hunters
This week's games are about monster-hunters, whether it be Victorian monster specialists, modern-day demon hunters, or teenage vampire slayers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sunset Kills, by Hedgemaze Press
Sunset Hills, Florida: A sleepy college town lucky enough to have its own indoor mall, zoo and minor league baseball team. Unfortunately, it’s also unlucky enough to be situated over the Shadowgate, a nexus of supernatural energies and a portal used by demons to enter our world. Thankfully, Sunset Hills is home to a small band of heroes willing to battle the monstrous forces that would take over the world.
Sunset Kills is a tabletop roleplaying game about a family or group of friends who investigate supernatural mysteries and fight the monsters trying to take over their town. It’s a little bit horror, a little bit drama, and a little bit campy comedy in the vein of shows like Charmed and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Sunset Kills uses a simplified version of the Apocalypse World system, perfect for new players or those new to Powered by the Apocalypse-style games. At only 8 pages, it's a quick read, and it provides examples of play so new players can get a bit of the rhythm of play figured out beforehand. Right now there are only 4 playbooks, but the game is currently in development so I expect there is more to come.
18XX Night, by Deep Light Games.
THE LONGEST NIGHT BEGAN: After doing a terrible job persecuting the dark creatures, the religious order counts its bad deeds. Decided to do good through other hands, it supports the last force remaining, this one with no political biases.
You are an elite force of monster hunters tracking down the remaining corrupt creatures in a part of the world where the sun is a rare appearance. These abominations are the best of each's own kind. Walking into the night, can you be the light?
18XX Night is a 24XX micro-game, using the standard 24XX rules. This means character creation is quick, GM prep is minimal, and it's easy to pick up another character if yours happens to die. This is Victorian-style monster hunting, in a world of gas lamps and misty nights. If you're looking for a way to bring up classic vampire-hunting stories, or if you want to send your players up against a pack of werewolves, this will give you a classic monster-hunting feel.
Yokai Hunters Society, by chema (Punkpadour).
"In the highest level a man has the look of knowing nothing," - Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Hagakure.
Yokai Hunters Society is a rules-light, pen & paper role-playing game in which you fight Japanese monsters, or yokai. The adventures you can play in Yokai Hunters Society range from facing the monster of the week, to complex investigations or political plots, to routine cleansing jobs. The writer of this game recommends taking this game from a horror tack, although it isn't strictly necessary.
This game is built using the Tunnel Goons framework, using dice rolls to determine your character's background, personality, and traits. You will exert control over the kind of Paths your character will likely take, and you'll be keeping track of things like equipment in order to give yourself an edge in certain situations. The PDF contains both a thorough explantation of the rules, as well as a concise description of Tokugawa-era Japan. The GM section is a mix of advice for running a game and random tables to help you generate missions, locations, NPCs and more. If you want an alternative twist to monster-hunting, Yokai Hunters Society might be the game for you.
Slayers, by Gila RPGs.
The City sits at the nexus of the world. Once you're inside it, it is the world. Something drives the borders of The City ever-onward, crawling towards the horizon. Urban sprawl made real. Neighborhoods appear and disappear overnight, The City is filled to brim with no shortage of interesting characters, cultures...and monsters. That's where you come in, Slayer.
Slayers is a tabletop RPG of mercenaries and monster hunters for hire. Known by locals as Slayers, players wander a haunted city, cursed long ago to expand towards the horizon forever. Slayers help clean out the monsters that infest the alleyways and shadows, and those that the city seems to be manifesting on its own.
It's slay or be slain. Better get to work, Slayer.
Slayers has 4 classes to choose from, and boasts a unique element of asymmetrical combat. Each player class is designed to work differently, which means the game that is being played will be different depending on the kind of character you choose. If you want more information about the setting, the creator has compiled a Slayers Almanac, which details different districts of the city, as well as released a supplement called Dust, which includes more locations, factions, and a new class, called the Deadeye. There's a lot of Slayers content out there for you to work with, which will alter the tone and feel of your game, so this is worth checking out!
Monster of the Week, by Evil Hat Productions.
Most people don’t believe in monsters, but you know the truth. They’re real, and it’s your task to bring them down.
If you want a more detailed Powered by the Apocalypse game about monster hunters, look no further than Monster of the Week, a game that takes inspiration from a number of different monster-hunting media and gives you the tools to create your own custom setting in which your characters go up against Chupacabras, werewolves, vampires, and perhaps even the Storyteller's own personal brand of horror!
As an established game, this book comes with a multitude of examples, detailed rules, and a wealth of advice for GMs in order to get them started. There's a reason why it's beloved by many fans of PbtA games.
Monster Guts, by Wheels Within Wheels Publishing.
Set in a post-capitalism world where monsters bio-engineered to extract resources have destroyed much of the world, you must hunt these creatures to sustain your village, one of the few settlements in the Pacific Northwest to have survived. You'll also harvest tags that you can slot into your weapons and garb to power up your scavenger.
Monster Guts uses the LUMEN system to provide a game of post-apocalyptic monster hunting, using three stats: CRUSH, SLICE, and PIERCE. It has some inventory-tracking, and a core mechanic that involves taking the best result from a roll using a number of d6's. The game is structured so that each hunt takes about 90 minutes - so you could have a short and sweet session, or fit two hunts into a longer session.
This game is beloved enough to have a number of supplements released on itch.io, which is great if you want to expand upon the base game. If you're looking for a monster-hunting game that doubles as a great introduction to LUMEN, you should check this out.
#iHunt: Killing Monsters in the Gig Economy, by Machine Age Productions
Be a hero. You pick the hours.
#iHunt is a story telling game about killing monsters in the gig economy. In it, you play millennials scraping by paycheck to paycheck to make ends meet. A gig app called #iHunt offers them more money than they've ever made to hit the streets and kill vampires, werewolves, demons, and anything else that goes bump in the night.
This game uses a modified version of the Fate Core rulebook - but you don't need the rulebook to play. Fate Core Rules can be found for free online, but the game itself should provide everything you need. What really sets iHunt apart is how it's published: the core game has everything you need to play, but Machine Age Productions also regularly releases zines that add new apps, new character options, story threads, and other goodies to the game. It's incredibly modular, which allows you to pick and choose what you want to be part of your game - and if you want everything, there are Season books in which a number of zines have been compiled for you!
Tumblr media
of course of course! it’s my pleasure doing this trade with you! thank you! anyways;
let’s start of with…
Tumblr media
𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐤𝐮 !
Tumblr media
-he could listen to you talk for hours upon hours. he would not get bored either, he would just stare at you with his intense yet comfortable eyes and urge you one to continue talking about whatever you’re talking about. he’d even ask questions or make connections to the things you’re talking about. it would be a pretty loud conversation between the both of you
-once he hears you speak another language he’s shocked at first, but then he becomes so intrigued and interested with it. he asks lots of questions about the language you speak and also asks what certain words are in said language. he mostly asks about words that he can use to compliment you. his pronunciation might not be too good but he’s trying!
-the two of you will never stop talking, it’s impossible for you guys to. people have tried to force the two of you to stop but it has not worked. as i said before he could listen to you talk for hours. he honestly just likes that someone is just like him, extroverted, can talk for hours, a loud talker, and optimistic
-the two of you are literally the father figures to a lot of people. you constantly have to remind the people you care about to do something and Rengoku would chime in like, “Yes! They also need to do this!” this often leads to a lot of people gravitating towards the two of you because of you guy’s warm aura. and being protective of others also comes with Rengoku being protective of you as well!
-he would never say anything rude about you, i don’t think he even can, he’ll shut down if anything rude comes out of his mouth when he’s talking about you. and he’d never leave you alone for a long time. but if there’s the small chance he ever does he’d reassure a million times and deny any negative thing your mind has came up with.
𝐆𝐨𝐣𝐨 !
Tumblr media
-once he hears you speaking a different language he becomes so intrigued and amazed, he thinks it’s so cool. he’ll kinda ask some unnecessary questions and will not stop asking them for days and days. he’ll ask you how to say curse words in the languages you know, i mean who doesn’t automatically learn curse words first when learning a new language?
-so we all know that Gojo is a very stylish man. he would totally match outfits with you. no matter what style you choose for the day, he finds a lot of your styles very interesting and can’t help but regularly buy clothing that fits whatever style he finds interesting , he’d sometimes even wear it without matching it you, he just wears it to wear it and because the style is cool. but i also think he would tease you with certain clothing styles.
-the two of you are literally so silly together. the two of you will just be outside together and everyone in a 5 mile radius can hear your laughter. he’d make you pull or help him pull some shenanigans with his students. and while the two of you are out you guys would randomly choose someone and point stuff out about them, or at least Gojo would.
-whenever Gojo is bored he’ll ask you something about whatever has your interest at the moment. he’s also one that can listen to you talk for hours, he’ll also add some stuff that reminds him of what you’re talking about. and sometimes he’ll tend to talk over you so that’s when you have to give him a little nudge and he’ll let you continue what you were talking about.
-we all know Gojo can say some teasing things, it’s in his nature to. but if he ever says anything that upsets you and makes you start overthinking he’ll drop the funny guy act immediately and genuinely apologize to you. he can’t stand seeing you act so cold and aggressive towards him.
It's Black Friday AND Itch Creator Day? You know I'm having a sale! All my games are 38% off because that's where my finger landed when setting up the sale. Or pick up all 3 games for $6.50 USD!
You can grab Hex & the City, an Urban Fantasy Lasers & Feelings hack that's great for pick-up and play one shots in the vein of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Dresden Files. Serenity the Chosen One is off healing (or smooching her half-demon boyfriend), and it's up to you to save the city in her stead! Flirt with a vampire queen, fight demon princes and make deals with fae. Whatever you have to do to make it to morning.
Also included is my game Microbrews, which lets you simulate a night out with your friends in a fantasy tavern and includes an optional drinking game (inspired by Red Dragon Inn, created for me and my friends to play since tabletop sim became a non-option), and Tell Me Something True, a two-person conversation between a fae and a mortal, about vulnerability and submitting to the mortifying ideal of being known.
Have fun, all proceeds go to me and into me making more games!
