do you have "treatment resistant depression" or are you just fundamentally living a life that would make anyone depressed?
are you just dealing with abuse, poverty, and oppression? are you just dealing with a lifetime of trauma? do we just live in a society where peoples basic needs are neglected, and the completely understanble response to that is pathologized? on purpose? so that it's just an individual problem and people arent Trying Enough... so nothing about the system has to change?
...do you have "treatment resistant depression," or do you just need real community, support, resources, and protection?

Being neurodivergent is so fun (/sarcastic) because you can stand there for a solid hour or two not being able to choose what to eat for a variety of reasons that only another neurodivergent people understand. Keep in mind these aren't meant to sound logical. Hence neurodivergent. We know it doesn't make sense logically, but we still feel what we feel. Texture Flavor Memories/association Doesn't go with today's mood You 'Don't deserve it today' If I eat this then I can't have this because it'll mess with this Misinterpreting/misremembering what something is Based on color Based on Order Wanting something mid-cooking and then changing your mind Simply a "I could have this or I could have that" and us being a little more emotional over the fact that we can't always have both at the same time. And then of course our dilemmas of when we do choose our food WHY IS IT TOUCHING WHY IS IT NOT MIXED (particularly added this one because there's some food I physically cannot eat unless they're mixed and I think it's an OCD thing, like mashed potatoes and corn-) PLEASE feel free to add on! I love hearing what other people have in their heads. These are just ones that i have on a daily basis. <3

do y’all ever reminisce on the past and just go “damn i was really batshit crazy then” and proceed to remain batshit crazy or no.

Note
hpd + depression culture is entering a depressive episode and trying to signal to your friends something is wrong so they pay attention to you and ask what’s wrong (but you can’t outright say because then they could do the opposite and leave)

Major Depressive Disorder
My Version of the Symbol
[PT: Major Depressive Disorder | My Version of the Symbol]
I did also use this version(link) being I do like the concept of it but I also feel like it’s not a lot and that it should have a bit more. So I hope you enjoy it!

A personal character take on the film Arrival:
One of the first things the film establishes about the character Louise is that she has clinical depression. (*This isn't out right stated, but I believe obvious enough due to the blue filter used to film the scenes with Louise alone in her home, and the conversation that transpires with her mother). Throughout the film we see her depression's effect on her, and she is shown to be very good at perserveering through.
Arrival is one of my favourite films, for many different reasons and a key one being Louise. We see through her gift from the Heptapods that her depression remains throughout her life, which is rightfully so given the future which awaits her and how she *knows* this awaits her.
Her depression wasn't wrote as a thing to overcome, but to accept and in a way, embrace. So many times depressed characters are wrote in a way which by the end of their character arc, they're 'happy and healthy'. It's the typical tinted glasses societal portrayal of topics we know mainstream films so well for. And in Arrival, they don't do that and I fucking love the writers for it.
Amy Adams acting of Louise is phenomenal (and the fact she was snubbed an oscar nom for it is outrageous but nevermind)
Louise as a character shows how it's alright to be depressed and you don't have to live less of a life with depression. She is incredibly intelligent and gifted seperate from the Heptapods ability, and she lives a purpose driven life.
As someone with enough mental and permanent physical health conditions, I have come to terms with for the most part, my mental health conditions will also remain. It's very unlikely in the next 30 years there will be a time where I don't have depression. That's not me having a doom and gloom outlook, as I hope I will still have a happy life and I *know* I will have plenty of times where I am happy, but my life will continue to be lived through a blue filter (I like that analogy).
And seeing a character such as Louise like that, like me, well it gives me feels and makes me cry and want to write about it at 6 O'clock in the morning.

just curious.... do you know of a general/unspecified chronic illness flag?
Nope so I've made some using those chronic fatigue flags.
Chronic Illness Pride Flag
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[IMAGE ID: a flag with six horizontal stripes. The fisrt and last stripes are smaller. Their colors are, from top to bottom, dark bluish green, light salmon pink, soft white, bluish green, light bluish green and dark bluish green. END ID.]
[IMAGE ID: a flag with a dark bluish green background. Lines, like brushstrokes, which go from top to bottom and from bottom to top, partially cross the flag. The line colors are light salmon pink, soft white, bluish green and light bluish green. END ID]
I choose to make the flags main's colour bluish green because light blue is often used to represent chronic illnesses and because green is often used on chronic fatigue/pain flags.
Meanings of flag:
dark bluish green: fighting against ableism
light salmon pink: community and solidarity
soft white: remissions and relapses
bluish green: chronic fatigue and brain fog
light bluish green: all the types of chronic illnesses
*my requests aren't curently opened, I just really wanted to make some flags for chronic illnesses.

I hate everyone who says “You need a better outlook on life” to someone who has mental illness. A “better outlook” isn’t going to fix the chemical imbalances in my brain. A “better outlook” isn’t going to calm my mind when i’m having a panic attack. Anxiety and depression are real things real people go through. Your “better attitude” speech is fuck all. Anxiety and depression is not the romanticized movie you watched. They are not just being sad and nervous. They are crippling. They take your whole day, week, and life from you. They are ruining my life and a “better outlook” isn’t going to fix them. Thanks for coming to my ted talk ✌🏽

npd & me/cfs + depression culture is hating yourself because you can’t just “get up and work” because every muscle in your body hurts and you literally fall because you’re so badly exhausted and no amounts of rest can help you.
