The Sunken City Derwent, Derbyshire  An entire village that was flooded to fill the Ladybower reservoir in 1944. Several creepy events happen near the site whenever the waters recede: vines allegedly pulling people into the buildings, the chapel bells ringing despite no bell being present, spectral figures reportedly visible under the water as the water rises to crest the buildings again. There persist allegations that the people of the village were conducting magic rituals at the site.

Colour pencils are a cool medium. The colours can pop nicely when you mix colours and apply a bit of force. Drawing wwx I will run out of black, though, which is a bummer...

Pencil extender appreciation post!

The means by which I use my pencils all the way down to the tiny nubs that you see in the big jar is these extenders. I have both screw collar and sliding collar varieties.

The best model is the black Derwent screw collar - but that only comes in a pack with a larger extender that doesn't fit any of my pencils. So that makes it £7-8 for one extender that fits, which is a bit pricey, although they do last forever. (NB: The coloured screw collar ones were a gift that I've never been able to find anywhere to buy! 😩 I've tried things that *look* like them on eBay or Amazon, but they're always shitty.)

The best value is the wooden sliding collar type, which you can get for under £2 at Jackson's Art or Art Shop Skipton online. They're much more prone to breakage, and sometimes the, uhh... stalk/stem or whatever you call it? The stick basically... That bit comes loose from the collar and you have to tape it. But they're more affordable.

Nimona!

I finally got around to watching Nimona and I watched it twice in one week with my girlfriend because it was so good! So of course I had to draw Nimona herself too because she's such a badass.

Character: Nimona from Netflix's Nimona (character & book by ND Stevenson, film by Annapurna Pictures).

Media used: Derwent A5 Portrait sketching pad, Derwent Academy sketching pencils (2B, 4B, and 6B), and Faber-castell dust free art eraser.

Also hi everyone! I'm back from my hiatus!! Looking forward to posting much more that I've finished at uni and maybe opening a print shop in future... exciting times!

I finally have my first Black Wing pencils on the way (so expensive!)! After ordering them, I realized I never actually use any of my wood core pencils and wanted to use the ones I already have for some writing and sketching tests before the fancy bois arrive. As a result, I’m having SO MUCH FUN sketching and playing in my little pocket sketchbook! Pencil was my first love and I’m extremely excited for my black wings to arrive now!! 🥰
