I wrote on a postcard from the Lake District and sent it to an old boyfriend that I lived with during the years 78-82. I haven’t stayed in touch so I don’t even know where he lives. I just addressed it to the house we lived in. I’ve just been thinking about him so much all the time recently wondering what he did in his life. Of course I tried googling and he has a fb page which he seems to totally ignore. His sister had reached out maybe ten years ago commenting on some photo I had on flicker. And it was weird. She’s a weirdo. I didn’t ask about Tim at the time because I just didn’t want to engage with her. When I broke up with Tim she confronted me wanting to know why I ended it. I didn’t say anything so she asked if it was just because he was too nice. So I said yes, he was just too nice. But that wasn’t why I ended it. I was freaking out. I felt I was too young to be in a committed long term relationship. People were asking when was the wedding. And then this gorgeous woman named Ora moved to town and I needed to make room for her in my life so she could break my sad little heart.

Tried to get my parents to walk up a hill but apparently they 'hadn't done enough training' and 'the dog wouldn't manage it' so we went on a boat trip instead

SAINT OF THE DAY (March 20)
Tumblr media
Not much is known about the life of Saint Herbert of Derwentwater, other than he was a hermit of England and a good friend of St. Cuthbert.
Herbert was an Anglo-Saxon priest and lived as a recluse on an island in Lake Derwentwater, England, which later became St. Herbert’s in his honor.
Herbert had asked to die on the same day (20 March 687) as his dear friend St. Cuthbert, and God granted Him the fulfillment of that desire.
His friendship with St. Cuthbert is explored in a poem by William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850).

I’ve been missing my friends on social media while helping out with palliative care and a bereavement in the older generation of our little family. But with the funeral having taken place on Monday and the widow doing much better than I feared, I’m going to try and make a little more time for the things I love to do. I actually really love my work, painting and sharing what I do here. So despite the current sadness, I’m actually very lucky!
Anyway, I’m really delighted to show you a painting I created last month. It’s of a greylag goose on the Derwentwater foreshore.
I’m not selling the original, as I used a variety of kitchen supplies and some writing pen ink: Quink ink, turmeric, pickled walnut and red cabbage vinegar, ground coffee left-overs and ground and pure sea salt from Halen Môn in Wales. It was an exercise in seeing how far people with next to no budget for art materials can get. But I just don’t know how these ingredients will stand up over time, so I’m not going to sell anyone something that might fade!
But it is available available in a mix of different types and sizes of prints, and printed on all sorts of lovely things (like accessories, apparel, homewares, gift items, etc), using commercial inks that should endure, at:
… and if you buy from them, I receive 20% of the sales price, before the shipping costs are added.
Thanks!

🌄 Discover Derwent Water: A Circular Walk in the Lake District
🚶 Have you thought about walking around Derwent Water in the Lake District? If so, you might be interested in a new page I've just written on my website:
https://www.paulbeal.com/derwent-water-circular-walk
🏞 My Derwent Water circular walk, outlined in a clockwise direction, is a stunning adventure starting and ending in Keswick. This scenic route initially takes you along the eastern edge of Derwent Water. You'll encounter remarkable landmarks such as Friar’s Crag, The Ings, and the Millennium Seat, where breathtaking views across Derwent Water towards the Borrowdale valley await. Don't miss the Centenary Stone and the enchanting Scots Pines.
💦 Depending on the lake's water level, you might continue along the lakeshore to Ashness Gate Landing Stage or take a detour along a roadside footpath. You'll circle around Barrow Bay, and then consider a detour to Lodore Falls if you're keen on exploring further. After crossing the picturesque Chinese Bridge, you'll join the Cumbria Way.
🌲 Prepare for an awe-inspiring ascent to higher ground near Manesty and below Cat Bells, where unforgettable views of the landscape await. The final stretch of your walk winds through the village of Portinscale, crosses the River Derwent, and brings you back to Keswick. Covering around 10 miles, this walk offers you an experience to remember.
