The first trailer for new BBC One drama Best Interests has been released.

Bad Sister’s Sharon Horgan and Good Omen’s Michael Sheen star as a married couple going through an emotional legal battle.

The trailer shows Nicci (Horgan) and Andrew (Sheen) finding out that the condition of their daughter Marnie, who suffers with a rare neuro-muscular disorder, is rapidly declining.

When doctors tell the couple it is in Marnie’s best interests to cease all treatments, Nicci and Andrew enter a legal battle to go against the doctor’s wishes and fight for their daughter’s life.

Joining Horgan and Sheen are Niamh Moriarty (Jack Thorne’s A Christmas Carol) and Alison Oliver (Conversation with Friends) as their daughters Marnie and Katie.

The ensemble cast includes Noma Dumezweni (The Undoing), Chizzy Akudolu (Sorry, I Didn’t Know), Des McAleer (Hope Street), Mat Fraser (His Dark Materials), Gary Beadle (Grantchester), Jack Morris (Strike), Pippa Haywood (Bodyguard), Shane Zaza (Happy Valley), Lucian Msamati (Gangs of London), and Lisa McGrillis (Mum).

Two-time RTS Award winner Lenny Rush (Am I Being Unreasonable?) announced via his Instagram that he will also appear in a small role in the series.

Jack Thorne says: "As a parent of a three-year-old I've looked at the cases in the media about 'best interests' with some fascination and a little dread, when the worst happens, how do you keep your head when everything around you feels wrong? We are going to try and tell a nuanced story that talks about this issue from all sides.”

Best Interests premieres on BBC One and iPlayer on Monday 12 June.

Pimoroni Tufty 2040 ist da!

Jetzt setzen die Piraten mit dem Tufty 2040 noch Eins drauf. Nach dem großen Erfolg des Pimoroni Badgers 2040 kommt nun etwas Neues!

Der Badger 2040 ist ein eInk bzw. ePaper Display mit einem Raspberry 2040 Chip. Ein ziemlich cooles Teil. Dazu hatte ich bereits mehrfach berichtet. Jetzt aber gibt es eine Neuauflage dieser Idee eine programmierbaren Badges mit einem TFT Display, genauer gesagt ein 2.4" (320 x 240) TFT LCD Farbdisplay. Ebenfalls mit dem 2040 Chip und auch das Teil verspricht eine Menge Spaß!

Natürlich ist ein TFT Display schon etwas anderes. Während der Badger 2040 dank ePaper Display zuletzt angezeigte Inhalte auch ohne Stromversorgung weiter zeigt, benötigt der Tufty 2040 fortlaufend Enegrie. Dazu bietet Pimoroni optional ein Set mit Akku-Pack. Dafür gibt es dann aber auch Farbe! Aber das ist längst nicht alles. Es gibt einen Qw/ST-Anschluss, siehe Bild (Nr. 1) über den sich allelei Dinge, wie Senoren und andre Qwiic Teile anschließen lässt.

Weitere Anschlussmöglichkeiten, siehe Bild (Nr. 2) ermglicht eine Leiste mit verschiedenen Kontakten. Und ein passender Akku Pack, wie im Bild (Nr. 3) zu sehen kann über eine eigene Buchse angeschlossen werden. So bleibt der USB-Typ C Anschluss für 's Programmieren frei.

In den Sinn kommt mir dabei ein weiteres Pimoroni Produkt. Ein kleiner sogenannter Breakoutgarden in den einzelne Senormodule eingesteckt werden können. Beispielsweise um Luftdruck, Luftfeuchtigkeit und Temperatur zu messsen. Da der Tufty 2040 keine schwerfälligen Aktuallisierungsraten wie der Badger 2040 hat dürfte er für zahlreiche Projekte gut geeignet sein.

Fakt ist, ich persönlich brauche das Teil unbedingt. Sobald ich den habe, werde ich euch mehr Details liefern und den Tufty 2040 umfangreich testen. Anyway. Bis dahin stelle ich aber fest, dass Pimoroni mit diesen Produkten gelingt wozu die Mitbewerber schlicht nicht in der Lage sind. Es erfordert ein paar Python Kenntnisse und es kann losgehen. Plug an play! Das dürfte viele Tüfftler erneut begeistern.

Kann der Tufty 2040 den Spaß mit den Badger 2040 noch toppen? Ich kann das abschließend erst nach einem eingehenden Test sagen, aber prinzipiell denke ich das ist ganz sicher der Fall. ich bin ein großer Fan von Kevin McAleer, der [hier] auf YouTube den Tufty 2040 vorstellt. Kevin ist ein sympatischer Typ der ordentlich was auf dem Kasten hat. Es ist immer wieder ein großer Spaß ihm zuzusehen!

BOOKS I READ IN 2022 Mostly academic books I read for research purposes or to expand my knowledge of a topic, though this year was much more scattershot then 2021 in terms of topic, and I read a lot less. Indeed, this year, while there was a lot of books I loved and luxuriated in, or am proud I finished, there were a bunch of very frustrating or not particularly appealing academic works I almost regret reading, such as the Cavel & Noakes volume! Also, far more fiction - I somehow read sections from almost every volume of Christopher Tolkien's History of Middle Earth series. Generally, I read the majority of the book - monographs or collections where I read a single chapter or introduction aren’t included. Hope Street by Asha Connie Kells Via Flickr: This picture won't seem familiar to most people but hopefully in 2022 it will be a familiar landmark. This is a seafront house in Donaghadee County Down Northern Ireland converted into a Police Station. Donaghadee is a about a 6 minute drive from my home on the coast road. Well, they are shooting a new TV police series here this very minute and I grabbed the opportunity to take a few pictures of Asha outside the TV police station while there was nobody there. The series is called Hope Street and is being made by Brit Box and an American TV company to be shown in America and Britain (hopefully other countries will purchase it too). It is going to be a day time show to be shown on the BBC sometime in 2022. I'm all excited about it, to watch a show shot in our wee town of Donaghadee. I've uploaded quite a few pictures taken in Donaghadee to flickr but maybe more on my old account. The little moat on the hill and the Lighthouse and pier and herring gulls etc. I will paste a little bit off the internet as to what this TV show is all about if anybody is interested. As with all shows there is a pub where they all gather. This is a real pub that is being used which overlooks the Lighthouse. My next goal is to take some pictures of Asha outside that too...So watch this space... Filming of a new crime series is set to start in Donaghadee, projecting the Co Down coastal town onto TV screens across the US and the UK. Location managers have been scouring Northern Ireland for five weeks to find the right setting for the storyline, looking for a busy and friendly community with character. Now the town's population of 7,500 is about to expand with actors, film crew and support teams as it's rebranded into Port Devine. The series, Hope Street, stars Amara Karan from The Night Of, as an English detective Alimah Kahn, who arrives into the town as its the first Muslim police officer. The show aims to celebrate the "warm-hearted and good-humoured people of the town" as they build a future together rather than dwelling on the differences from the past, focussing on Port Devine’s police department and the unannounced arrival of DC Kahn.The character-led series combines a long-running storyline with self-contained crime stories in each episode featuring actors including Brid Brennan from Peaky Blinders, as Concepta, Des McAleer from The Crown, as Barry, and Ciaran McMenamin from Primeval, as Finn. Emily Powers, Head of BritBox North America, said: “Hope Street offers a modern twist and a fresh setting for the mystery shows that are popular with BritBox fans.
