"Pain? Panic? Move. My dads are expecting us." Y/N said to his father's minions, who were guarding the entrance to his father's lair. He and Ben were having dinner on the Ise with Y/N's parents. Even though the barrier was down, Hades and Chernabog were still forbidden from entering Auradon, but Ben was working on a way to change that.
"Sorry, Y/N. The boss is busy." Pain said.
"Oh, but congrats on snagging yourself a prince. He's so cute. Like cotton candy." Panic said.
"Thank you." Ben smiled.
Y/N sighed. "Listen, fellas... Do you really want to make me angry? You know what happens when I get angry don't you?" His hair was set ablaze and his eyes were glowing red.
Pain and Panic shook in fear as Y/N grew bat-like wings with horns and everything else as Ben looked at the two Imps. "We were invited to have dinner with Lord Hades and Chernabog. Can you please let us in?" Ben asked.
It was the better option than Y/N attacking them. "Yup! You bet! The boss is waiting inside for you two. Best no keep him waiting." Panic said.
Y/N turned back to normal and smiled. "Thanks."
They walked inside and entered the lair as Pain called out to them. "Make sure you tell the boss we were courteous to you guys!"

I have more headcanons. These ones are of the Nektons, and the kids relationships with each parent
Ant
- He taught himself sign language, and proceeded to not tell anyone for four and a half years straight
- He doesn’t eat fish and most other seafood because of Jeffrey
- He’s allergic to bee stings and pollen
- Ant was born two months early in International Waters, which is why he’s so small for his age
- Ants wants some sort of reptile pet beyond Jeffrey, like a lizard or snake, but is worried about it getting thrown around on the Aronnax during the families many adventures
Fontaine
- Fontaine had an emo undercut when she was twelve. She burns any photo of it she can find, embarrassed
- She likes playing around with clothing styles
- Her favorite instruments to play are guitar and piano
- Fontaine is really good at cutting her own hair, but can’t be trusted to cut someone else’s at all
- Cannot stand pickles in the slightest, but weirdly enough loves cucumbers
Kaiko
- Knows martial arts, and teaches her children
- Was a lot like Ant as a kid, but mellowed out as she got older
- Kaiko loves sci-fi movies and stories, and has a personal collection of comics from her childhood
- She snores nearly as loud as Will
- Kaiko can pilot more than marine vehicles. She can also fly most planes, including helicopters
Will
- Burns water. He’s the worst cook in the family
- Watches the Olympics to laugh at the competitors he competed against and didn’t like. It’s his soccer
- Has a traditional Māori (I think that’s what ethnicity he is, I’m not sure) tattoo across his back, representing his family
- Carries several pictures of his kids and wife in his wallet, and shows them off to anyone who stands too close and too still long enough
- Is weirdly pretentious about tea despite living on nothing but coffee
Ant, Fontaine, and Kaiko
- Ant wants to be a Marine Biologist like his mum when he grows up, and Fontaine wants to be an Ecologist with a Music Degree on the side. Kaiko tells them that she’ll support whatever they decide so long as they finish their homework
- Ant is insecure of how few traits he gets from Kaiko’s side of the family in comparison to Fontaine, and Kaiko likes to kiss his freckles and say that it’s there in the small traits he gets from her
- Fontaine and Ant both inherited Kaiko’s recklessness and stubbornness, and Kaiko calls to apologize to her parents every time she suffers from it
- Fontaine likes to have girls days with her mom, doing make up and talking about how dumb the boys in their family can be. Kaiko enjoys the time she spends with her daughter
- Ant and Fontaine both went to great lengths to try and convince Kaiko to let them keep the sea snake they found when they were kids. Kaiko had to pull up every ounce of patience and self-control she had to resist the puppy eyes
Ant, Fontaine and Will
- Will teaches Ant and Fontaine the traditional Hakka, and can’t tell if he should be proud or terrified for their lives when Ant starts doing it to the Monumentials and Fontaine to Hammerhead
- Ant and Fontaine both had a game growing up where they’d throw themselves at Will to see if he could catch and carry them both. They continue to do it well into their late teens, and sometimes still as adults
- Will was adamant he be the one to teach Ant and Fontaine how to swim. He’s a very proud papa when they get into the odd swimming competition and dominate
- Fontaine and Will have inside jokes about how they’re both banned for life from the kitchen. Will calls Fontaine a traitor when she’s allowed in to bake
- Ant can’t help but compare himself to pictures of his dad at his age, lamenting about how he’s not as tall or big. When he confides about this to Will, he tells him about how self conscious he was about how much taller and bigger than everybody else he was at Ants age

ages of Descendants characters
at the time of D3 they'd be roughly...
Mal: 18-19
Jay: 18-20
Evie: 18-20
Carlos: 17-18
Ben: 18-20
Audrey: 18-20
Chad: 18-20
Doug: 18-20
Jane: 17-18
Uma: 18-20
Harry: 18-20
Gil: 18-20
Celia: 13
Dizzy: 14
the Smee twins: 12
it's stated in Descendants 2 that Mal was 16 in Descendants (2015). what with them seeming quite young in Wicked World, all of the events that occur and time that passes in each novel, and them being moderately functioning adults in Descendants 3, the idea that they spend a good 3-4 years in Auradon makes a lot of sense.
it also has interesting connotations.
Carlos de Vil was only 14 or 15 in the first movie. this makes sense from his portrayal in the movie and isn't much of a difference from the others' being 16 - in Auradon. consider the dynamics on the Isle of the Lost, though: in the gang scene, he was probably the youngest major player of all the villain kids.
we know that there are six months between Descendants (2015) and Descendants 2. in this time, Uma and Harry win the Lost Revenge, build their crew and reputation, and secure all of Mal's old territory. that isn't a lot of time for the new normal on the Isle of the Lost to be solidified. Uma and Harry are still riding the waves of their sudden ascension to being major players on the Isle, which adds credibility to Gil's scenes in the movie and their astounding confidence in just. impulsively ransoming the fucken King of Auradon.
this timeline also means that there are 2-3 YEARS between Descendants 2 and Descendants 3. this makes the animosity between Uma and Mal over her crew's abandonment of the Isle - and Uma's character development into such firm determination to be a savior for the Isle kids - all the more reasonable.
so for 2 or 3 years, Mal and Ben are finishing school, settling into their relationship, and Mal is being prepped to be Queen; Jay, Evie, and Carlos are navigating school, friendships, and creating new roles for themselves outside of the Isle; Uma is roaming free outside the barrier, investigating the world but unable to do anything to help her crew back on the Isle; Harry and Gil are trapped on the Isle with no updates from Uma or news of Auradon, stepping in to adapt to the loss of the leader of their relatively newly-established crew; and all of the other VKs are left to rot without any follow up on the exchange program.
according the the novels Mal, Jay, and Evie graduate shortly before Descendants 3, which helps make sense for why - and why then - they were entrusted with selecting the next group of VKs to bring over. it makes more sense for them to suddenly be permitted to visit the Isle of the Lost to spread propaganda, applications, and mentor the kids when they couldn't before. Auradon brought one batch of VKs all the way into adulthood and now that they are proving to be promisingly responsible citizens, they're finally moving to bring over some more.
Mal, Jay, Evie, Ben, Audrey, and the others being in that painful post-graduation transitional period of life also makes a lot of sense for their actions in Descendants 3. they're no longer in high school and are suddenly confronted with deciding who they want to be and what they want to do with their lives. we see Jay settle into mentoring the new VKs very comfortably, seeming more comfortable in his own skin than he had been before; Evie is masterfully managing a home, business, and boyfriend; it's a logical time for Audrey to snap, when she'd managed to hold herself together previously; and it adds to the pressure Mal and Ben were under that inspired them to agree with closing the barrier.
canon pieces imply that it was days between the final battle of Descendants 3 and Hades' waking Audrey and that the barrier was lowered immediately after this takes place. this means that Ben and Mal immediately moved for dropping the barrier after Hades' speech, all of the Council supported them now in doing so (????), and there were no practical or legislative roadblocks to completing the action. very little time passed for Uma and Harry to wrangle people on the Isle; Audrey was released back into public favor at the celebration literally immediately; and there wasn't time for many conversations or relational resolution among the Core Four.
canon is stupid and I'm especially horrified by the lack of logic in that last part... but the more I consider these characters according to this timeline, the more I like it.
if you notice anything with this timeline that is contradicted by the movies, show, or novels, please feel free to point it out! references are below.
.
"The Descendants movies have novels that fill in the gaps between them by Melissa de La Cruz. It's confirmed that they are canon as the author collaborates with Disney on the content.
"In the fourth novel (Escape from the Isle of the Lost), set before D3, Mal, Ben, Evie, Doug, and Jay graduate. D3 opens either months or a year after that, so we can assume they're 19 or 20. Still young, but legally able to marry. Carlos and Jane are seniors, so 18 by that point. The younger characters are all over 11, but younger than 15; as Auradon Prep only accepts boarders from 11 and up."
above quote is courtesy of leostan-127 on Reddit.
.
.
I've seen people talk about Uma, Harry, and Gil all being the same age, and of Harry being the same age as Mal, so I assume the pirates would also be 18-20.
post updated on 07/27/22 to reflect Dizzy and Celia's canon ages and that there is six months' time between Descendants (2015) and Descendants 2. thank you @descendantofthesparrow for that info!!
post updated 08/10/2022 with updates to everyone's age range except Celia's and canon info for the timeline at the end of Descendants 3. thank you to @ishiphumasohard for that one!!

I missed the days I was a normal human being playing with dolls.
Now I’m just a human being crying over recreated scenes I made my dolls do over my favorite shows because I was not happy about the ending.
And unfortunately that is not considered normal.

listening to Set if Off from Descendants because i’m in a nostalgic mood today
only now, almost 9 years later, I realized why Mal sings “Be yourself, forget the DNA” REFERRING TO THE MESSAGE OF BEING A DIFFERENT PERSON FROM YOUR PARENTS
also does the lyrics “Start a chain reaction, never let it stop” refer to breaking the cycle??? because??? this movie shouldn’t make me cry??? it’s silly and stupid and fun???

auntie’s sister - Usagi’s parents theory
oh yeah, I remembered what I remembered a few days ago: why I think Auntie has a younger sister that's in the Miyamoto family line, instead of younger brother - because of the whole meaning of Yuichi as it is written, as a given name.
Yuichi Usagi is the first son in a while. Maybe even since Auntie's own grandfather?
So this ties back to the whole "What's in a name" theory post I made a while back, where I connected Senso and Samurai Rabbit.
Because Yuichi spelled as both 雄一 and ユウイチ - Yūichi - means “heroic first (son)” - maybe he was named that bc the family hasn't seen a son in a long time? So by that reasoning, it makes even more sense if Yuichi is more like a title or nickname in this case, but Usagi places it in the same way as he would a family name bc their family didn't have a name for a long time as farmers.
Tumblr media
And so, going from that reason, maybe his family line tying him back to Miyamoto Usagi, must be maternal - his mother and grandmother at least, since Auntie mentions his great-grandfather - so for a few generations, the family didn’t have sons at all. Anyway, that’s just a theory I remembered now ^^
As an additional theory/headcanon, maybe even that they were overjoyed to have someone carry a family name but by that time, Neo Edo had changed so much that Miyamoto Usagi had already been branded a traitor in the city, without the family knowing about it. So what do they do? Perhaps they decided not associate with him as openly, to avoid scrutiny because it was hard to change public opinion - and after Usagi’s parents died, Auntie cut off ties from the city entirely. She passes on some of the stories about family history, and Yuichi sticks as a family name to Usagi because that’s the only other name he got.  imo, auntie seemed fairly in the dark about how much Neo Edo had changed while she was away from it, so it’s a possibility that the perception about Miyamoto Usagi changed during her lifetime, e.g. after the war she was in. But that’s backstory we don’t know exactly, so this is just headcanon and fanfic territory for now ^^
Anyway, that’s probably why I headcanon that auntie had a younger sister who’s the parent, because the Yuichi name seemed somehow to tie into this family history for me xD even tho the show itself is slightly vague about it (auntie just says “I promised your parents” it does leave this theory open as a possibility.

You ever think about the reason why the love spell in Maleficent's spell book has the best reviews is because Maleficent might have used that exact same spell on Hades pre-barrier in order to marry him and carry his child. The spell might have worn off under the barrier and he might have just kept pretending up until he was fed up with her bullshit and left for good when Mal was a kid.
