Outside of the Desilu studios early Nineteen Sixties. Desilu was owned by
Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball who bought it from the old RKO studio in 1954.
Desilu ran from 1954 until 1967. Lucille Ball sold it to Paramount. Desllu
in its time was home to many successful shows: The Lucy Show, Andy
Griffith, Dick Van Dyke, the Untouchables, Ben Casey and many others.

50s-60s Sitcoms HCs:
Twobit is an I Love Lucy fan and does a Desi Arnaz impression yelling LUCY! Around the house to annoy the gang.
Sodapop doesn’t watch much TV canonically but he likes Gilligans Island. (Cutie🤭)
Ponyboy is a fan of the Dick Van Dyke show. Imagine him smiling and giggling at the skits like he was in that one shot at the drive in.
Darry likes the Andy Griffith show as background when he reads the paper.
Steve watches the Beverly Hillbillies just cuz yeah that makes sense.
Johnny likes I Dream a Jeanie. He probably day dreams scenarios about having a jeanie in his life sad but true. Also cutieee❤️
Dally will briefly stand in the Curtis living room and smoke a cigarette as family affair is on the TV. But if you ask if he’s watching it, he won’t admit that he was actually invested.
They all like to watch the Three Stooges together like a family

so many appreciation posts for desi girls that highlight their divine beauty and femininity w/ makeup and jewelry and long hair. so little appreciation for desi girls who don't feel like girls and are dykes and masc and love having thick body hair and a little bit of a mustache and bushy eyebrows and naturally broader bodies everything inherently masculine and deemed gross about ourselves

growing up as a desi woman in the west is a layered experience. that is, it has layers of bullshit. layers of total, utter, unadulterated shit. shit that takes years to remember, process, unpack, unlearn, and move on from.
one of those layers is learning that you are not attractive. you’re just not. you’re ugly.
you’re not thin, white, small, smooth, or pretty. you’re chubby and you have broad shoulders and thighs the size of texas. you grow hair at a rate that could rival most cis men out there. you’ve probably got a mustache that you have to shave/wax/thread every few days. your nose is too big, your lips are too thick, eyebrows are too wild, your skin is oily, and your hair is too frizzy.
you don’t fit western beauty standards. at all. and that’s… okay, actually. it’s okay. you’re not white, you’re not european, why should you have to fit a specific set of standards to be beautiful? after all, true beauty comes from withi–
hang on. you’re forgetting something.
you’re too thin, don’t you eat anything? wait, no, now that you’re eating you’re too fat. if you work out too much, you’ll become too muscular, like a man. your skin is soo dark, what do you keep going outside for? stay at home, you’re a girl. what’s wrong with your face, you have so many pimples! stop eating x food item and maybe your skin will clear up. do some house work, it’ll help you lose weight. why aren’t you wearing a bra? your nipples are showing, go cover up, it’s indecent.
how will you get married if you look like that?
you won’t get a husband if you keep eating like that. no man wants to marry a pig.
she’s too short, too fat, her face isn’t very nice… no, we don’t want her to marry our son.
you just can’t catch a break, can you?
sure, you’re not white, so you can’t expect to fit the bullshit eurocentric beauty standards. but now the aunties of your community, your own people, are doing this to you? wow that. that just sucks, man.
and eventually, when you grow up, you realize the standards of beauty that your own community is pushing on you is a reflection of the bullshit eurocentric beauty standards. it all goes back to whiteness, misogyny, and patriarchy. that’s all it is.
but now you’ve got to undo all of that damage, and continue to exist in a world where these issues persist, because there aren’t many good solutions to these problems that don’t involve revolution. furthermore, you as an individual can’t do much about it. fun, isn’t it?
yeah. real fun. but here’s something more positive, i guess:
i’m a transmasc dyke now. i don’t shave, my stomach isn’t flat, i eat whatever i want because i know my body. i work out to put on muscle, and i let myself tan in the summers. i dress like a “slut” on saturday nights and go to the gay bar. i don’t always feel beautiful, but i know my self worth. i do not dress and take care of myself to impress men or appease the aunties. i’m happy like this.
there’s more to life than getting a fucking husband and giving people eating disorders and body dysmorphia. shut the fuck up and find a new hobby.

The Lucy Show: Almost – Just For a Moment – Feminist
As pointed out in Desilu: The Story of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, the first season of The Lucy Show was “far superior to its subsequent five seasons” and was almost – but not quite – groundbreaking. In some ways, it picked up where I Love Lucy left off: the setting was still Connecticut and Lucy was still essentially Lucy. But now she was a widow with two children sharing her house with a divorcee (possibly the first such continuing character on television) with one child.
The two women, who had served together in the WAVES ( U.S. Naval Women’s Reserve), tried to blend their families, attempted to operate home businesses, organized an all-female volunteer fire department, and did the things they would have previously depended on a husband to do, such as installing a television antenna or a shower stall.
Rich possibilities were there but they weren’t fully explored and, after a time, they weren’t explored at all. It probably didn’t help that some wags at the network were calling the program “The Dykes Sans Dick Show.” Ultimately, Lucy and Vivian became two women competing for male attention.
The better episodes in the early seasons can be credited to Desi Arnaz. The book Desilu quotes him: “The property to follow I Love Lucy was based on a book that we bought, Life Without George. It was very carefully considered for many reasons. We didn’t want to copy Lucy, and at the same time, we didn’t want to go too far away from the Lucy character. We all agreed that the fact of these two women trying to raise children, make a living, face plumbing problems, etc., etc., without a man around the house, offered tremendous possibilities. But when I read a script such as ‘Lucy Flies a Helicopter,’ it makes me wonder if anybody ever read the book. If they didn’t, then perhaps it would be wise to have them re-read it, very carefully.”
But it didn’t happen, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was Desi Arnaz being bought out by Lucille Ball and leaving Desilu. Television audiences would have to wait until Kate and Allie (1984-1989) to see the comedic possibilities of this situation explored. (First posted July 19, 2013.)

[Image description: A digital drawing of Vic (she/he), Desi (she/her), Ava (she/her), and Briza (she/they), NPCs from my D&D campaign, set against a geometric multishaded pink and purple background. Vic, on the left, is a young, thin, dark gray-purple Drow with short dark blue hair. She is wearing a belted yellow dotted jumpsuit that has a darker lower half. Desi, in the middle, is a young, tall, buff, brown Firbolg with short black hair and sharp, animal-like teeth. She is wearing a black tank top that reads "Big Dyke Energy" and is surrounded by hearts in the colors of the lesbian flag, as well blue shorts.
Ava, who is sat on top of Desi, is a pale blue Eladrin/Genasi toddler with dark purple hair pulled up in two pigtails with pink bows. She is wearing a pink shirt. Briza, on the right, is a young, thin, blue Eladrin woman with curly dark purple hair that is styled in two low hanging pigtails and two braided buns on top of her head. She is wearing a lilac crop tank top and a multi-tiered pink skirt held up with suspenders. Desi, at the center of the image, is flexing proudly with both arms held up, with Vic hanging off one of her arms and Briza hanging off the other, while Ava sits atop her head, holding onto her long ears for balance. Desi is flashing a tooth smile as she looks forward. Vic is smirking as she looks at Briza, while Briza is looking up at Ava and Desi with a warm smile. Ava is smiling gleefully, revealing some missing baby teeth. End description.]
It's been a few months since my girls have been in my campaign and I miss them so, so I thought I'd do a cute family portrait! My sweet girls ☀️🌙✨️

Movies and tv shows that I have seen where they should have been lesbians
Eega (2012)- I too would come back from the dead as a fly for a girl I barely talk to. also something about Nani in this movie screams butch lesbian idk idk
Nuvvu Naaku Nachav (2001)- possessive femme, losing sleep over eye contact etc. Also I think it would have made the forbidden love part of it more intense/believable
Kabhie Khushi Khabie Gham- I already made a post about this on my page so I won't rehash that here but if you want my thoughts on it find that post
Ponniyin Selvin (2022) - Controversial? perhaps. Period accurate? definitely not. I don't care. maybe I just really liked this movie and I want more lesbian period dramas from India. maybe I just think they're really hot. either way aditha and nandini should have been lesbians. they're too hot not to be lesbians
Anne of Green Gables- I'm all for people just being friends and all that but I feel like Diana and Anne should have kissed at least once. they're so homoerotic friendship
Merlin (2008)- Gwen and morgana were my first introduction to queer baiting. ok maybe it wasn't actually queer baiting but it felt like it. they needed to kiss at least once, preferably more than once.they would have been so cute together. they were always the happiest when they were near each other. ugh
will update as I remember more

@leisurecd accidentally saved the post as draft & now it wont let me edit it so here you go :") answering 1 & 2 again cuz i literally love music questions so much hehe
1. song of the year
aye zindagi gale lagale. oh man i love gulzar so much he is my ultimate old man. my favourite lyrics from him are always the ones where he talks about this idea of living w "a little" which i think is such an innate part of desi cultures & way of living. to get by w little. just enough money to live comfortably. warm food. a lover or the memory of love. a house of your own. contentment.
2. album of the year
just remembered gemini rights by steve lacy !! loved the album throughout this summer + got to go on a date w super cute dyke who also loved steve lacy so yayy big win
14. favourite book of the year
i think ill have to say mottled dawn by saadat hasan manto... partition literature has always been a really sensitive topic for me but manto's sensitive yet absurdist attitude was absolutely incredible to read. i think my favourite story from the collection was definitely the dog of titwal
