Things that are hinduphobic:
Having prejudice for, discriminating and harming (both harassment and hate crimes) people who practice Hinduism on the basis of their religion.
Things that are NOT hinduphobic:
Talking about the caste-based hierarchy and the suffering of people harmed by it, condemning dangerous Islamophobic speech and actions, criticizing the actions of the state when it curbs civil rights of its citizens, opposing people that support an ongoing genocide and talking about your feelings about your own identity.
I hope this clears things up for people. <3
Always remember, prejudice is reprehensible and so is claiming prejudice using it as a shield when someone criticizes you for your negative Actions.

PSA: STOP COMPARING POCS TO FOOD ITEMS.
Tw: slavery, death, racism and violence
(Please tell me if there are any other trigger warnings i should add)
Alright. So you're writing a story with a person of colour in it. Cool! We love diverse casts. But you need to describe the colour of their skin and your mind immediately goes to food items. NO. don't do that. That's is bad.
As a desi, I'm sick and tired of seeing other desis and pocs being compared to food items. No matter how well you write or how much research you do, that is still super fucking racist.
My ancestors and the ancestors of so many cultures around the world were forced to grow and harvest those same food items you are comparing our skin to as SLAVES.
What y'all think of as symbolic and lyrical description is ignoring centuries of abuse and intergenerational slavery. People died in those fields. People were born in those fields with their fates already written for them. And you don't get to brush that aside with a simple, "But it sounds pretty!"
And it's not just something white people do. It's something I've seen my desi friends do as well. Hell, i did it myself at one point before i knew better. It's not alright but still understandable. But if you continue doing it after reading this post or the many many other posts that reiterate this exact point, that is when you start being racist.
You are willfully ignoring the suffering of poc people for your own pleasure and that is not fine. That is anything but fine.
My people did not bleed in your fields, fight in your wars and starve for your sins, surviving only due to the slim hope of freedom for you to ignore the pain caused by your actions.

PSA to The Maruaders fandom
Not liking a headcanon, popular or not, does not make a person a bigot. Surprising, I know! But it really doesn't.
There's been TONS of discourse lately over transfem sirius and I would like to give my opinion on it. If you like the headcanon, that's fine, good for you!! If you do not like the headcanon, that is also fine. Not liking the headcanon does NOT make someone transphobic and if you think it does you need to rethink your views on life because what the actual fuck. Apparently people also claim that not liking transfem sirius is misogynistic and if you genuinely think that BOY do you need a wake up call. If one person can genuinely argue how either of those points makes even vague sense, I will consider changing my mind, however, as I actually have a fucking clue of what bigotry really is, I dont see that happening in the near future.
In the same way, this applies to almost every headcanon, including not hc james as queer or even as desi (no, that does not make you racist, please fucking get over yourselves) or hc-ing remus as disabled.
I would like to point out, however, that if you do enjoy any of these headcanons, its absolutely fine!! I even enjoy quite a few of them myself including pan, desi james and genderfluid sirius!! You should also post about them on your own platforms as much as you like and engage in media with the same headcanons!! You should NOT, however, argue and hate on people who post about not liking them, because just as it is your prerogative to like something, its their prerogative to like something else and neither of those times is it hurting anyone. It is also your prerogative to post about stuff you don't like!! Just do it on your OWN platform and not one someone elses.
At the end of the day, they're all fictional, let's have a little decorum, okay?

one of my favorite things about Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter is that he made it so that anyone who gave Twitter $8 could get the blue checkmark that indicates that the user is verified, so people on Twitter started paying for the verification check so they could impersonate tons of corporations on Twitter and tweet shit that cost some of the corporations billions of dollars in stock

this is an announcement because yo girl just cant stop giving PSAs
okay so this one is about desi tumblr.
I know there are desi blogs out there who feel excluded and ignored, so this one is for them (and some others dw i'll discuss about them later in this post)
There are things everyone needs to know.
what desi means.
who's desi and who's not
So first of all, by the basic definition of desi we mean south-asian. Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, Nepalis, and such.
Desi is a culture and if you fall in these countries, youre desi. I know some people don't want to associate with the desi title because of reasons which make total sense and thats perfectly fine. No one is forcing you to pick up the label. Do whatever makes you comfy.
▪︎▪︎▪︎
[Very important note: you dont have to like mainstream media to be us. We are a culture, and its not bound by the languages we speak, the food we eat, and other things we do. You dont have to take part in everyday discourses to be a desi blog. This is super fucking important and I hope everyone, and i mean everyone, understands this.]
I, as a desi, think I'm inclusive, and I love when I interact with new blogs. I hope people understand this and know that I would accept them as they are. Damn, siblings, your language and the things you like might be different but that doesnt mean you're any less desi.
▪︎▪︎▪︎
Some more very important things with personal examples:
Hindi is not the only language. You don't have to be a hindi speaker to be included. (three of my fave frens here (rey, billu and clove/alagar/strudel) cant speak hindi fluently i love them as much because a language doesnt bind us)
Indian-themed-things are not the only things. I know this happens and I want to make this point very clear. (I have two pakistani (noor and hazel) and a Sri Lankan (uvi) sister here and i love interacting with them.)
A lot of discourses are political and it's okay if you dont want to interact or if you dont relate to them. Most of us are minors and we aren't  conditioned to have opinions all the time. (no personal examples here, but I mean this.)
▪︎▪︎▪︎
Personal note 1: please send an ask if you want me to edit/add a point. (I dont respond to dms as quickly and I dont want to ignore this)
▪︎▪︎▪︎
Another very important thing:
I have heard about the existence of a fabled inner-desi-circle, and apparently me and my close mutuals are a part of it. And some people have been passive agressive to me about it. This has been happening for quite a while so I thought I should talk about it.
I want to make this very clear, and I am very sorry if I sound offensive.
We are friends and we are accepting people. I mean this very seriously, by the way. Do not throw shade on us just because we are friends and we exist.
There is no such circle, and trust me when I say I would be lost without them. Most of us are friendless irl, and it feels really shitty when someone is being shady because we show our affection here through posts and inside jokes. Let people exist.
And if you ever felt excluded because of us, I am really fucking sorry. We didn't think that telling our friends that we love them, or making a personal reference would hurt you. I am sorry.
▪︎▪︎▪︎
personal note 2: I am very sorry if I have ever made anyone on desi tumblr feel excluded, i didnt mean it. (I swear to god I am not being sarcastic, I really am sorry. I am usually not being sincere, but I am being very sincere here.)
▪︎▪︎▪︎
Personal note 3: the others and I are interactive people, trust me. I sure as fuck am. You could totally send an interactive ask, and we would sure as fuck reply. Please dont assume you're not one of us.
▪︎▪︎▪︎
I know a ton of desi peeps here, and all of them are lovely people.
So once again, repeat after me:
It's okay if you're NRI.
It's okay if you dont speak hindi
It's okay if you dont relate to discourses
It's okay if you're new and still figuring things out
It's okay and you're desi enough.
You're still a desi disaster
Done!
▪︎▪︎▪︎
Lastly,
This is the desi tumblr and I hope you enjoy your stay!
A fuckton of love,
Aadya, the certified babie sis

Hey this is random but I’ve seen you mention being desi a lot and like what does desi mean? I’m sorry if this is rude I’m just confused
This isn't rude at all! A desi person is someone who is ethnically south asian. And all South asian countries, like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and many others. And you don't have to live in said countries, immigrants and people of different nationalities are present and welcome in the community too!

I feel like I need to clarify exactly what creams like Fair and Lovely and other skin lightening creams are in the context of Indian/South Asian culture.
these creams aren't just things that reduce dark spots or circles and even out skin tones. all the promotional pictures show the woman's entire face becoming lighter (apparently as a result of the cream)
Tumblr media
now and even bigger problem with these are the marketing and adverts. the adverts for fair and lovely generally go like this.
a dark skinned Indian woman (who actually isn't even that dark) is having a bad time. she can't get a job or a boyfriend or something. then someone introduces her to fair and lovely. she uses the cream, becomes lighter and now she achieves everything she wants in life. not just in terms of looks. she does well at school, she gets a promotion, etc. everyone now marvels at how gorgeous she is.
fair and lovely doesn't just tell you that your prettier if you're lighter. it actively tells you that you will live a better life if you have lighter skin. people will like you more. you'll achieve more.
youtube
this is just one example of a fair and lovely advert. but there's SO many more. they've become more subtle now but they're still implying the same thing.

Hey I haven’t really seen any posts about this but Manisha Valmiki, a 19 year old Dalit woman from Uttar Pradesh, India, was gang raped and severely injured by four upper-caste men. She died of her injuries and her body was cremated by the police—against the wishes of her parents.
Here’s a fairly popular petition for justice I’ve seen going around, but if anyone has more information about the case or other ways to take action, please add on as well.
