Suptober day 5 - A Perfect Disaster

Welcome to day 5, today we have domestiel with toddler Jack!

Dean entered the kitchen cautiously, hearing Cas grumbling from the hall. The counter was covered in bowls and spilled flour, and what looked like a carton’s worth of eggshells sat haphazardly piled to one side. Dean looked over at his husband. Cas was a surgeon. Brilliant, talented, gorgeous, thoughtful… Cooking, however, was not in his repertoire. Dean opened his mouth to speak and Cas sent a glare at him that felt like it should have levelled a city block. 

Dean's mouth snapped shut. 

He might not be the literal genius his husband was, but he wasn't an idiot.

He watched as Cas wiped up the pancake batter that had somehow ended up on the cupboard door above the counter–though ‘somehow’ was fairly obvious, as their three-year-old son, Jack, waved a whisk from his position in his high chair. A small handprint on the lower cupboard indicated that the kiddo’s incarceration was relatively recent. The pan in the sink contained what looked like a collection of charred hockey pucks, and another smoked on the back burner of the stove, under the exhaust vent for good reason. That looked like it might have been the eggs.

He cleared his throat.

“Don’t, Dean,” Cas snapped, and Dean stepped closer, resting his hand on Cas’ lower hand lightly, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to his temple. Cas sagged against the counter, his head hanging.

“I was going to ask if I could pour you a coffee,” Dean murmured.

A little smile curved Cas’ lips, and he nodded with a sigh. “I’ll order breakfast and then get the dishes,” Cas said. “But I really do need that coffee.”

Dean chuckled and swooped in to steal a kiss. “We’ll get the dishes while we wait for breakfast to be delivered. And you, my wonderful husband, grab that whisk from Jack before he gets more batter in his hair, or we’ll have to hose him down in the driveway.”

Cas snorted a laugh.

“He’d enjoy it.”

Dean grinned and handed his husband his favourite mug.

“Happy anniversary,” Dean said softly, and pulled Cas in for a lingering kiss, mess forgotten, their perfect disaster.

Scenes/Things in Supernatural that genuinely don't make sense to me if Dean was straight:

The confession booth scene.

Sam just rolling with the fact that Dean's siren is a guy while still thinking sirens infect people through sex.

Dean being flustered by several men: Gunner Lawless, Aaron, Doctor Sexy, etc.

All the parallels between Destiel and other couples. (A big one being "last night on Earth" bc how do you do that accidentally.)

Having all the gay jokes be on Dean instead of Sam.

Paralleling Sam meeting his childhood celebrity crush with Dean meeting Gunner Lawless.

The boner Dean got when Cas cleaned up.

Dean gulping after Cas does an impression from a Western movie.

Charlie, a lesbian, calling Castiel "dreamy."

The way Mary looks at Dean and Cas when they hug.

Dean wondering why everyone assumes he's gay, while Sam not caring.

The logic that Charlie can't flirt with guys because she's only attracted to women, but then having Dean flirt with the guy for her.

Dean seeming disappointed when learning that Aaron's flirting was fake.

The amount of time Dean and Cas spend staring at each other.

Dean canonically having an orgy with Crowley.

A woman saying that she knows when someone's pining for someone else to Dean, just for us to learn that Dean was never in love with Amara.

The set design and script choices that lead to a cross in the background while Dean said "I do." to Cas after he came back to life.

Edit: To the people who say I can't use the siren as an example because the siren is supposed to be his brother, and therefore his siren being a man doesn't work. If you reread that bullet point, then you will realize that I didn't put it down as just simply Dean's siren being a man. I recognize that the siren is supposed to be his brother. It's the fact that Sam still thinks the siren infects people through sex, not knowing that it's actually through saliva when he realizes who the siren is. So when he sees that Dean's siren is a guy, he had to assume they had sex, and he does not seem surprised by this at all.

Do you guys ever think about how canonically the vessels that angels occupy aren’t supposed to age (s12e10 when Cas is impressed his buddies kept their same vessels for well over a century. Also apparently Cas tells Jimmy when he first was requesting permission to inhabit his body, that Jimmy would not age while he was doing so.)

…but Castiel definitely ages. Obviously I get that this is simply because Misha himself is aging, but *my* in-universe headcanon is that he’s choosing it, (whether consciously or unconsciously) because he wants to grow old with Dean.

"Dean didn't love Cas," "It was platonic," fuck off, when Cas died, he handled his loss the exact same way John did when he lost Mary. It's not even subtext, it's in the dialogue. Sam points it out, loud and clear. That's literally what the narrative was conveying.

"He's not just grieving about Cas, he lost Mary too." Yeah, but even when he's hellbent on blaming all of their loss on Jack, even he could see that Mary made her choice.

But to him, Cas didn't. To Dean, Cas was manipulated—deceived by some idea of "paradise," and it's easier to swallow that than to consider that Cas up and left them to protect Lucifer's child.

And you wanna know the cherry on top of all this??? Castiel's paradise consisted of them, together. Happy. Alive. Together. Castiel may have run away with Kelly to fulfill her wish for Jack, (to let him keep his powers where the Winchesters wanted to turn him human), but he only did so for that promise. In the end, he ran away so he could give them this.
