An absolutely stunning piece by Martyn Fox. Fascinating to read the background to the work too. • @martynfoxart “Barn Owl”, coloured pencil on Strathmore paper, by Martyn Fox 🦊 After a good few hours working on this one, it’s finally finished. And I’ve got to say I’m very happy with how it came out. 🙂 Barn Owls are one of those birds that I rarely see in the wild, but when I do it’s something that find mesmerising every time. The way they glide effortlessly over the countryside as they hunt is a sight to behold. The way they seem to glow in the dawn or dusk light too makes them appear almost ghost-like and quite spectacular. With this one I wanted to really challenge myself to create the largest and most detailed piece of work in coloured pencil that I had yet worked on. During this I learnt a lot about the medium as I’m still quite new to coloured pencils: and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of working on it. I wanted to work on a piece that would give me lots of detail to work with also have interesting colours to try and depict. Trying to show the lighting through the wings and around the body was a good challenge to work on, and was a joy to work on. 🙂
