7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

It's on my mind because of that Bustopher post, but I do like how people stay away from Deut being an "old man yells at cloud" stereotype.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Making his kids Munk, Tugger, and Macavity. I just think it's really oversaturated in the fandom and ironically it removes canon motivation from Macavity: to get back Demeter. Mostly I just wish people would come up with new headcanons/backstories for all four of them instead of sticking to what's most obvious/popular in fandom right now.

Every character description that describes Gus as the oldest cat in the tribe fuels me and makes me stronger, but when they hit me with the fact he had a stroke it immediately weakens me again (in the emotions).

Who has the best relationship with their zanpakutou? Who has the worst? Does anyone have a Beyond Friendship relationship? As in not only romantic or sexual, but something more sibling-like, or perhaps parental in either direction?

Hmmm... I wouldn't have a "best" relationship because there's many, many ways to do a relationship right, but definitely the worst is Mayuri, because Jizo is his parole officer that he kidnapped when he broke out of Hell and BOY HOWDY DOES THAT COME TO BITE HIM IN THE ASS.

As for "beyond friendship", most of them are in the sense that once you've fought and nearly died with someone by your side, "friends" is quite the right description. But to cite a few examples:

Yamamoto and Ryujin Jakka straddle the line between D&D warlock, and D&D paladin - Ryujin chose Yamamoto, amd for a long, long time Yamamoto did not understand WHY. Things got better and worse when he finally grokked why the spirit of change wanted to be wielded by the guy to whom the responsibility of founding civilization.

Rangiku Matsumoto is a strange and very private woman despite the act she puts on, and Haineko is one of exactly two people in the whole world who really understands her. On the other hand, nobody can piss you off quite like someone who really, truly knows you.

Probably the closest relationship is between Unohana and Minazuki. They've been partners for over a millennium, they laid waste to many enemies together, nearly died together several times, went to medical school together and even shared lovers. Where Unohana's soul ends and Minazuki's begins is... Unclear. There are days when they wake up and it's Minazuki weilding their body and Unohana in the scabbard, as it were. This is largely a non-issue; Minazuki is a doctor too.

Hyorinmaru is practically the Deuteronomy of zanpaktou- he's an ancient sword who has had many wielders. It's a lot of pressure for Toshiro, but hyorinmaru also has a lot of practice at this, and the relationship between them is not unlike a doting grandfather and his beloved and dutiful grandson.

Suzembachi is Soi Fon's Emotional Support Giant Murder Hornet and BY GOD the girl needs all the help she can get.

It took FOREVER to figure out what the hell was going on with Kenpachi, because while theoretically possible, it hadn't actually happened before- Zaraki Kenpachi is a Tsukumogami that died in the living world, and reincarnated as a human in spirit world.

SPECIFICALLY, he was a Holy Sword that had been around for 500 years* seen much battle and developed a revered soul before [REDACTED] and he asked to be ritually destroyed. He reincarnated in the spirit world in the best of one of the Great Eagles, but fortunately for him, all birds are a little bit stupid even if they're also technically Gods, and since the infant was the same size, shape and furiously screaming as he chicks, She Who Rules The Sky decided to just start shoving meat into his mouth too. Sometime after he grew up and his sisters had fleged, he left the nest to travel and hang out with his fellow humans, and eventually decided to give himself a name and raise a daughter, as humans do. They wandered around for many years as humans do, until circumstances resulted in his violent arrival to the court guard.

While off, none of this specifically worried Yamamoto until hyorinmaru was talking to him one day.

"...what do you think Zaraki is becoming?" The dragon asked him one afternoon while they watched Toshiro practice spar with Sasikibe.

"Becoming?" Yamamoto shrugged. "With the damn central 46 banning him from learning Kendo, he's becoming a Damn Nuisance."

Hyorinmaru sighs, a noise like a dam threatening to fail. "You did not notice? Zaraki has spent 500 years as a sword, 500 as an eagle or suchlike beast, and after he named himself and Yachiru, he spent 500 years as a man. And THEN he turned up here."

"I suppose, what of it?" Yamamoto shrugged, watching Toshiro's footing.

"With all due respect to the wielder of fire, when I was a worm, I spent 500 years on land, and then 500 years at sea, and then *I* became a DRAGON, sir." Hyorinmaru explained.

Yamamoto did not actually move, but he was no longer watching the boy.

"-with 500 years each as object, animal and man, Kenpachi surely has become SOMETHING. What is running lose through your court guard, I wonder?"

Hestia ends up being the only one of the Deuteronomy-Jones kids to end up doing ballet as a full-time career. Mistoffelees never lived vicariously through his kids, but seeing Hestia and Tumblebrutus go into dance as something full-time warmed his heart so so much. She and Tumblebrutus become one of those ballet it-couples, where everyone knows they're together, and if one of them is seen auditioning for a role in a ballet that's part of a romantic pair, the other isn't far behind.

Their first big role is in "The Nutcracker", where Hestia is cast as Clara, and Tumblebrutus as the Nutcracker. It's a role they both know well, having danced it as children and young adults, but being on a professional stage makes it so much more real.

Mistoffelees can't help but cry sitting in the first row, watching his daughter dance and be applauded by thousands of people. Hestia makes eye contact with him throughout the show, happy tears in her own eyes, and at the end of the show, as she bows, she blows him a kiss.

When it comes time for everyone to go to the stage door, of course there are crowds waiting for the two leads. However, as soon as the doors open, Hestia's flying past all the cheering people straight into her papa's arms, clinging to him as he spins her around, just like he used to when he was Drosselmeyer and she was Clara.

Mistoffelees is absolutely bursting with pride, and Hestia's beaming, and she doesn't leave his side, even as her siblings pile onto her in a tight group hug, or as Tugger peppers kisses all over her face, cheek stained with tears he fervently denies shedding.

So I had originally very sadly decided to skip this round of the US Tour but I decided to take a shot at buying will call tickets at the box office today (it's cheaper) and I was able to get some and they were actually pretty good seats!

Cast was mostly first-cast, covers were:

Highlights from the show include:

Mungojerrie and Sillabub interacted a lot, which I love because hcs.

This Tugger really enjoys tormenting Munkustrap, it's so hilarious and great whether you view it as flirting or annoying sibling behavior. He was always taking any chance he got to tickle or poke at Munkustrap.

This Tugger (Hank Santos) was also constantly moving. Fidgeting, shaking or rolling his body, etc, he always needed to be moving and it was a really interesting character touch. It was more visually apparent in his movements and behavior how quickly his attention changes, a lot of moments in his song actually felt quite abrupt (in a good way) in how he would just suddenly leave cats because they lost his attention in the middle of dancing with him.

Bombalurina entering the Glamour Cat song had an interesting vibe where it seemed to be treated as her actively interrupting Demeter. She didn't actually vocally cut her off but Demeter's reaction to her coming in to sing definitely gave that vibe. It was a more apparent "Bombalurina is actively stopping Demeter's sympathetic treatment and reaching out to Grizabella."

On that note though, Erica and Nora's voices are astounding. I already loved them in this song, I was straight up losing my mind during Macavity, their voices are so good and fit the characters so well!! They both had rather smoky, old-timey feeling voices, very fitting for Bombalurina and Demeter in my opinion!

During the first Macavity scare, Sillabub specifically went to Alonzo for protection and he covered her body with his own 😭

When Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer did the final pose in their song, they didn't look out at the audience, they looked at each other, really feeding me and my love for Mungoteazer held gazes!

At one point during the Pekes and the Pollicles, Jenny barked at Tugger and he got like legitimately jumpscared 😂

Honestly, coward Tugger rights all around, he was always like the first to run away each Macavity scare gfrihwuedoaisj (he did grow a bit braver during the Macavity fight and joined the rest of the Tribe in chasing Macavity off.)

Mungojerrie tried to grab Demeter back from Macavity when he was dragging her away 😭

Tugger's fickle attention span was still on display even in Mistoffelees's song. When Tugger was presenting Misto to newly returned Old Deuteronomy, he had a moment where he like, suddenly remembered what he was doing and had to search out where Mistoffelees was because he no longer knew because his attention had been drawn elsewhere.

Tecklenburg Family Headcanons

A basic list of my Tecklenburg family headcanons with almost no explanation whatsoever:

Old Deuteronomy is Mungojerrie and Munkustrap's father, while Demeter is Munkustrap's mate.

Jennyanydots, Tugger, Cassandra, and Plato are siblings (ordered from oldest to youngest, with Tugger and Cass being in the same litter). Jenny and Bustopher are mates, while Tugger has had some sort of romantic fling with at least two Queens and very possibly one Tom (I'll let you guess who).

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer aren't related. They could be mates or just kindred spirits. I'm not really sure about them yet and the other Jellicles are about as clueless as I.

Gus and Grizabella were mates before Grizabella became an outcast, and Jellylorum is their daughter.

Etcetera/Jemima and Tantomile/Coricopat are identical twins.

Bombalurina, Demeter, and Mistoffelees are distant relatives. Victoria and Pink Cat (Rosa) are Demeter's daughters.

Skimbleshanks and Macavity could be brothers, but Skimble has most definitely disowned him at this point and doesn't boast their relation to other cats.

I'm not gonna cover all the ensemble/unnamed chorus cats yet because I haven't figured them out, but these are my thoughts so far!

Headcanon Masterpost

Alright, so this is mostly for myself but I figured I'd post it. I think I made a post somewhat similar to this before, but my headcanons have changed dramatically since I joined the fandom. Here are (most) of my headcanons for Cats the Musical, including age headcanons and relationship headcanons. I don't really do AUs, so everything here is how I view the world of Cats.

Note: I tried to focus on canon characters only here, but some OCs are pretty vital to my headcanons and will be mentioned if they are connected to canon cats. But just know that if I included my OCs, this would be twice as long.

I headcanon almost every canon character as bi with a few being aroace, and everyone in the Jellicle tribe is poly.

Design Headcanons:

I'm boring, and therefore I use London designs for my headcanons. I have several Broadway designs as separate characters. My Alonzo is B&W Alonzo, while Broadway Golden Lonz is an OC named Lorenzo. Plato is London Admetus, while Admetus is Broadway Plato. Jemima, Sillabub and Sylvani are all separate characters as well. Pounce is London Carbucketty, and Carbucketty is based off Broadway Pounce/Swing cat. (Blame 1998 for the naming choice of the characters okay)

Age Headcanons

Ages I divide into 4 groups. In my world, Jellicle have to be the human age equivalent of 17/18 to attend the Ball. Any Jellicles under that age usually stay with trusted cats close to the Junkyard for the night.

Oldies: The oldest members of the tribe. The Jellicle Choice is almost always picked from this group. Cats in this age group are Old Deuteronomy, Gus, Grizabella, Bustopher Jones, Asparagus, Jellylorum, Skimbleshanks & Jennyanydots.

Adults: The cats in this group are usually the ones tasked with protecting the tribe from potential threats, planning the Jellicle Balls themselves, and generally are seen as the ones in charge. Cats in this age group are: Macavity, Munkustrap, Coricopat, Tantomile, Demeter, Alonzo, Bombalurina, Tugger, Cassandra, Mistoffelees, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.

Young Adults: A separate group for only three cats really. This group usually does the pas de deux every year with a few exceptions. Cats in this group are: Plato, Admetus, and Victoria.

Kitten: The youngest group, but are still hold enough to attend the Ball for the first time. Cats in this group are: Tumble, Pounce, Carbucketty, Jemima, Sillabub, Sylvani, Electra, Etcetera and George.

Relationship Headcanons

Familial:

Old Deuteronomy is the father of Macavity, Munkustrap, Tugger and George. Munkustrap's mother is Grizabella, but she left the tribe when he was very young. Tugger's mother is a Queen named Tali. However, Tali was very sick after Tugger was born and had to leave the tribe for a bit, so Tugger was also raised by Jenny and Jelly.

Gus is the father of Jellylorum and Asparagus.

Skimbleshanks is the father of Rumpleteazer.

Jemima and Sillabub are the biological daughters of Demeter and Macavity, but are raised by Demeter, Alonzo and Munkustrap.

Bombalurina was orphaned at the Junkyard as a kitten and was raised by Grizabella before she left. Sylvani is the biological daughter of Bombalurina and Macavity.

Coricopat and Tantomile are twins, and just like Old Deut have lived many past lives.

Misto and Victoria are half-siblings. Bustopher Jones is Misto's uncle.

Romantic

Jenny, Jelly, Skimble and Bustopher Jones are in a polycule together.

Old Deut was former mates with Grizabella, and current mates with Tali.

Macavity was former mates with Demeter and Bombalurina.

Tugger, Bombalurina and Misto are in a polycule. Tugger is also mates with Rumpleteazer and Artemis.

Munkustrap, Demeter and Alonzo are in a polycule.

Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer are mates. Rumpleteazer is also mates with Tugger and Victoria.

Plato and Victoria are mates. Victoria is also mates with Rumpleteazer.

Admetus and Sylvani are mates.

Etectera and George are mates.

Sillabub and Carbucketty are mates.

Other Headcanons:

Macavity was ousted from the tribe years before the show's Ball. Demeter left the Junkyard with Macavity, but left to protect the kittens she had with Macavity. Alonzo is a former Macavity hench cat who also left Macavity with Demeter. Macavity took many of the tribe's toms with him when he left, all who became hench cats. The only cat who left and returned back is Lorenzo.

Bombalurina left the tribe shortly after Demeter returns after being deceived and seduced by Macavity.

I interpret the "Jellicle Cats meet once a year" line to simply include those cats who don't live in the Junkyard year round, but most of the Jellicles do live in the Junkyard full time. This includes the cats wearing collars and are mentioned to have owners. I just prefer to consume Cats with all the tribe living together all year round outside of the Jellicle Ball.

Old Deut, Macavity, Tanto, Cori, Misto and Jemima all have magic powers of some sort. Old Deut, Cori, Tanto and Jemima's magic is more inwards and intuitive, while Macaivty and Misto's magic is more physical and showy.

Several of the cats are Protectors, and these cats go on daily patrols to ensure the tribe is safe from any outside threats. Munkustrap is the leader, with Alonzo and Bombalurina being second and third in charge respectfully.

Jenny and Jelly are both trained in medicine and assist any cats who are injured, as well as helping cats who are expecting kittens.

In this week’s Torah reading we begin the Book of Deuteronomy (Devarim), Moses’ final speech to the Israelites in the last five weeks of his life. The man who once described himself as “slow of speech and slow of tongue” (Ex. 4:10) now has a great deal to say. Moses rebukes the people for their lack of faith and repeated misbehavior in the wilderness, and recounts events that occurred and laws that were given during their forty-year journey.

Moses begins his epic lecture by mentioning certain places where the Israelites provoked God to anger. Rashi explains that Moses simply mentions the place names and not the sins committed there “out of honor for the Children of Israel.” But isn’t Moses criticizing the people? How does he honor them at the same time? Rav Yosef Nendik explains that when a person lacks self-awareness and is oblivious to what he has done wrong, he needs a long explanation about why he is being reprimanded. For one who already understands his mistake, a simple hint is enough.

Imagine a family on a cross-country road trip. At Mt. Rushmore the children can’t stop bickering and their fed-up parents pack them back into the minivan. The kids realize their mistake and cry to return to the monument, but it's too late. Another time, these siblings start to bicker and their mother wants to remind them why it's a bad idea. She says simply, “Mt. Rushmore.” She doesn’t need to bring up the insults they traded, or the family’s missed opportunity to enjoy the national monument. The children know full well what they did wrong that day. It is to the Jewish people’s credit that we needed only a small allusion to our sins to understand why we were being rebuked.

This is Part 1 of my Cats 2019 Movie Jellicle Cats Generation 1. I'll explain more about the characters.

Munkustrap is the Jellicle Leader and Protector of the Tribe. He is the second son of Old Deuteronomy and Gus The Theatre Cat. His mate is Victoria and they've just had their first kitten Eliza.

Victoria is the newcomer of the Jellicles. She has no Jellicle Family. Just an abandoned cat who found a place where she thinks she belongs in. She is Munkustrap's queen of the Tribe.

Mistoffelees is the son of Macavity and Bombalurina. He has escaped from their clutches and Munkustrap let him be a part of the Tribe as a family. Gus took care of him like a Father. Mistoffelees was born with magical powers, but never knew how to use them properly.

Syllabub is the daughter of Old Deuteronomy and an unknown Father. She is getting closer to Mistoffelees the more he shows her his magic, and their relationship has began to devolped.

Tantomile is Munkustrap's younger sister and always follow him whenever he goes. Due to this sibling attachment, it's hard for her to become independent in her kitten age. She currently has a crush on Skimbleshanks.

Skimbleshanks is the cat of the railway train. Throughout his journey, he has mated with many females, but he never really found his true love. He's very protective of Jellylorum.

Jellylorum is the daughter of Skimbleshanks and Bombalurina. She's a kitten with bravery and independence, but gets frustrated from being overly protected by her Father.

Rum Tum Tugger is the son of Old Deuteronomy and another unknown Father. He can't seem to decide where he wants to go, so he's not in the Tribe often.

Cassandra is Tugger's young sister and is often close to him alongside her best friend Demeter. She is considered mean and cold, but shows assertiveness and loyalty.

Demeter is the daughter of Growltiger and Griddlebone. She appears to be cruel and selfish, but not always. It's hard for her to express her feelings unless there's drama and gossip involved.

im not a big fan of how i coloured Plato or the twins (tili looks a bit to much like Electra for my liking) but honestly i couldn't make myself sit here longer to do anything about it right now lol 

They all have separate mothers besides Alibi and Admetus who both share my oc Lyre as a mother (post about her here) 

This drawing would be set right after Ali brings her brother to the junkyard after reuniting with her old babysitters Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer reveals to her their whole unknown family that Macavity and Lyre kept them hidden from. In choosing to meet their siblings, the two are subsequentially disowned by the hidden paw and Old Deuteronomy accepts them as new members of the Jellicle tribe.

Out of the six only 3 developed any magical gifts, Jemima who’s powers match similarly to old doot (as she will be the next Jellicle leader) Alibi whom possesses a more sorta toned down mix of her father and Mistoffelees magic and Admetus who seemingly has a limited version of Macavity’s magic as well!

Out of the group Plato is an incredibly protective older brother, especially over Jem and the Twins (even more so over Tilibubble since she is born mute and his mate Victoria has to teach her how to communicate)

All of the siblings have different relationships with their dad Macavity, but it doesn't stop them from all becoming inseparable once they all finally meet!!

Here's a question for you--which cats do you think come from really big families, and how well do they get along with their siblings?

Jennyanydots came from a really big family for certain - she was one of 13 total kittens. She was somewhere in the middle-ish of 8 queens (5 elder and 3 younger) from her mother's first mate. After her father and mother parted ways and her stepdad came into the picture, she got a whole new four younger siblings, three of them being the only toms in the whole bunch (a set of twins and the baby). Jenny gets along with her siblings to the extent that most cats do - she favours some over others, some are more annoying than others, etc.; but she would drop everything and anything she was doing for any of them at any time (she was very much a "Hey, only *I* can make fun of them like that, watch it, buster" type of sister). Home life was very loud and very chaotic, but in a way that was about as organized as you can make a group of 13 kittens at various stages of development). Being the big lady in charge meant that there were plenty of cats available for her to boss around (including her older sisters), and that was often the sound that first greeted visitors to the Junkyard when Agrona's brood was hanging around the clearing.

Skimbleshanks' family wasn't particularly *large*, but he had four older sisters (three from one litter, and then the fourth was born a few years before him). He was treated very much as a doll as a young kitten, with his triplet eldest sisters doing the cat equivalent of pushing him around in a pram (I supposed carrying him around by the scruff) and dressing him in their doll clothes and putting his hair in ribbons. He didn't particularly mind the doting when he was very young, but when he got a little older, he was struggling out of their grip and running from them when they asked if he wanted to "play" (which just meant getting him involved in more of whatever they wanted to do in ways that were, frankly, humiliating). They also used to try and persuade him and Madeline into doing things for them so they would take the fall if it went sour (Everlasting forbid their grandmother caught them doing anything). His favourite sister (and by favourite, I mean she and he basically grew up together at the same time so fire-forged friends) was Madeline - they used to chase chickens together, and she was the one who tagged along with him on his first train ride.

Technically speaking, Tugger and Munkustrap come from a relatively larger group of scattered half-siblings, though they never particularly met many - if any - of Deuteronomy's older children. They had long since moved up and on when they were born, so relationship wise, they're pretty much non-existent in their memories or their acquaintanceship. The relationship between the two of them specifically is...complicated.

Also on the technicality spectrum, Jellylorum has fostered dozens of kittens, so Etcetera has considered nearly half the Junkyard youngins her "siblings" at one point - she is a very responsible sister and Junkyard guide and takes her duty very seriously and only holds them upside down because they are slippery and teaches them crocodile tears *for emergencies*, obviously (she's obsessed with her big brother Mungojerrie on the other paw and would trail after him all the time, everyday, until he started branching off from the nursery and then the Junkyard altogether).

Yeah it’s mostly headcanon based, some popular family headcanons are Skimble and Jenny as Jerrie and Teazer’s parents, Mistoffelees, Victoria and Alonzo as siblings with Bustopher as their father/uncle, and Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger as Old Deuteronomy’s sons

But!!! There’s almost always a production where one things is canon and a different production where it isn’t, so if you interpret any of these as friends or partners or anything there’s nothing that can prove you wrong. Mungoteazer is a pretty common ship for example, and some people see Bombalurina and Demeter as sisters while others see them as partners, they’re both fairly common interpretations

It’s all about which dynamics you like best! These are just the ones I see the most often, I’m guessing mostly due to their designs, like Jenny, Skimble and M&R being orange, Vic, Misto and Alonzo being black and white etc.

But really, you’re free to construct your own family trees and there’s probably at least one production out there that supports your ideas! There’s no solid canon across all productions so you can just pick and choose whatever you like best
