Splatoon 3: Side Order is good, but not great. I still highly recommend it, but if you care about the story, you're going to be disappointed. Quick review: spoilers ahead.
Side Order was the devs experimenting with Splatoon's gameplay loop. The campaign is a rogue-like, and it works amazingly well. Super fun, super challenging, building my deck and fighting through challenges with the stakes of resetting really scratched an itch in my brain. They did a great job with it.
Unfortunately, I feel like priority went to game design rather than story. Much of the mysterious artwork we saw in the first teaser trailer was completely unused; turns out, all of that was just concept art that never made it into the final product. Side Order failed to make me care about what was happening. I don't know why the protagonist had to be Agent 8; it could've been anyone else and the story would've worked the same.
Octo Expansion was the absolute peak of meshing story and gameplay. The campaign's hook is insanely strong; we immediately empathize with Agent 8 because we know from previous lore that octolings like her have been trapped underground for all their lives. We care about her fight to the surface because it's a fundamentally ideological fight for freedom. The plot stuff about Tartar and the Thangs is just nice set dressing; 8's fight for freedom is the real story.
There's none of that in Side Order. I don't particularly care about Marina's metaverse, even if it's tied to Octo Expansion's story. I don't know why Acht is there other than backstory stuff. It really feels like 8 is just told to do something and she does it because she's the protagonist; she has zero personal stakes or motivations in the conflict. This is a story blunder the devs did in Splatoon 3's default campaign––forgetting to give the protagonist a personal reason to fight––that I hoped would be fixed here, but alas.
What makes it worse is that the gameplay and story progression are completely out of sync. I beat the entire game on my third run in 4 hours. With each run, you get up to two keys to potentially unlock bits of story. That means you'll get about one piece of the story every two runs. There are twelve pieces of the story; I got the first and then beat the whole damn game. Now I have to go back and grind to see the remaining story when I've already beaten the final boss and resolved the conflict. I missed the entire story because I never had to reset because I blazed through the gameplay! It's just a real shame that I experienced everything without knowing... why it's happening. The final boss had me asking myself what the hell is going on because I don't know the backstory at all.
Again, I still really recommend. The devs did a great job, but Side Order remains in the shadow of Octo Expansion's incredible success. Like the default singleplayer campaign, there's just a lot of lost story potential here that, while not necessary, would have really elevated this DLC into something amazing.

I'm slowly starting to get back into drawing again! Man, do I miss it! Honestly, I haven't drawn since my first Art Collab of Unus Annus. Yeah, it's - been a while! Haven't really found the time nor the motivation.
So, I'm planning it out now. Then I'm going to start drawing tomorrow or Thursday! I'm going to try to do a Redraw of Sam the Septiceye and then maybe my own version of Marvin!
HAPPY CREATING MY MULTI-FANDOM FIENDS!
And if you've been wondering what I've been up too.
Nothing much! I finally gotten my inspiration and motivation back to start writing again! So, I'm currently working on a DSMP Superhero AU!
5 Chapters have been written so far! And it's only taken me about a month and half to two months! Yeah, it's progress!

I'm going to make a few observations that should be obvious, but maybe they aren't. Anyway, this is inspired by some of my friends talking about DnD.
What you do with a game can have absolutely nothing to do with what the game wants you to do. And that's perfectly fine.
With that said, just because you do things with that game, does not make that game about those things. If I tell you that I use chess to woo strangers, this does not make chess an inherently romantic game.
A game is about whatever it lets you do with its mechanics. If the mechanics facilitate you doing a thing, then the game might indeed be about that. If they actively stand in the way of you doing a thing, then it is definitely not about that.
A game that does not help you contextualize your imaginative roleplay is definitely not doing you any favors. By all means, keep doing what you love, but there might be a game out there that absolutely helps you and facilitates the thing you want to do without leaving you out in the cold to make it all up on your own.
It is perfectly fine to houserule a game to oblivion and back to get it to facilitate the things you want to do. But at some point, you must admit you aren't actually playing that game anymore.
Don't encourage people to play a game without including the context that you are playing an entirely different version of it to have fun.
Read more games.

I’m bored and thought of another scenario to put in tension and angst for obey me characters to go through. I like this one by the way.
_______________________________
Sorcerers’ society find out the causes of earthquakes happening faster than usual was MC due to their magic potential (MC being the cause of all the natural ‘phenomenon’ in S2) and now want to investigate MC and call them in.
Drama has already started baby.
Solomon who’s against this but goes with MC to make sure they’re ok because it’s not a good idea to ignore a seemingly threat invitation I mean.
It’s explained the Ring of light was used to console MC’s magic and everything is fine now but they’re doubting it and want to investigate the Ring of light for themselves, if it’s actually successfuly tamed their magic or just a temporary device to tone it down- simply meaning if MC’s overflow of magic would still be leaking and not fully restrained.
[Also add overprotective Solomon drama who’s against this because that’s hot and more dramatic]
It’s found out the ring of light isn’t powerful enough to completely prevent MC’s magic from overflowing and now…
The sorcerers’ society have deemed MC a threat. A large threat to the human world.
Who would be better off dead. No. SHOULD be dead.
_______________________________
「If only the story actually did have good drama like this~
Anyways I’m just describing the scenario since I can’t write at all lol if I had enough confidence I probs would haha」

Why the FUCK would Spawn Astarion be all into going with Karlach to Avernus in her Origin run, but that option simply doesn't exist in HIS Origin run? The timing excuse is invalid: Larian has changed the timing of her burning up in her Origin run so she can have a romanced companion go/not go choice with her. They could've EASILY done the same for Spawn Astarion Origin. (They even have the dialogue and animations for ASCENDED Astarion to forsake Baldur's Gate and go with her. So that's as ready as well.) That smells like another oversight regarding Karlach, her storyline and the options related to her character. It bothers me so much when there are these absurd gaps in the story when it comes to her character, like she was the last priority they had. Meh.

MY PUZZLE GAME ASCENT IS FINALLY DONE!!!
go play it for free on itch.io right now!
about a month behind schedule, but we pulled through!
this is my first published game since my childhood days on scratch.mit.edu! how the time flies
i would NOT have done this without tumblr. idk what it is about this place but i have never been so motivated to work on stuff regularly. im so proud of myself for completing this journey :D
and an especially emphatic thank-you-so-much to @versilperihelion, @the-typing-dragon, and @dont-look-me-in-the-eye for playtesting! ascent would not be nearly as polished had you not volunteered your time, encouragement, and puzzle-solving skills to my cause. love u all <3

The whole Kevin Conroy/Suicide Squad game discourse brings up the genuine fact that it's weird and gross to speak for a dead man regardless of the content in the game.
You have absolutely no idea how Kevin felt working on it, to say the developers personally disrespected him in any shape or form is just wild.
They had absolutely zero fucking clue it would be his final performance as Batman and he agreed to be in the game and probably had fun, so like... don't criticize the game that way.
Shit on anything else sure, but it's really fucking weird to speak for Kevin when he's not with us anymore.
Kind of reminds me of the Crisis on Infinite Earths situation where a bunch of people were saying how disrespectful it was for Kevin's first live action Batman appearance to be an evil Batman and then you just look at the interview he had about it and he seems like he genuinely had a blast, lol.

i talked about why i find the argument people love to use as an excuse as to why shiekah tech is all gone in totk that "they destroyed it bc they were afraid of it" dumb before many times so i wont go over my past points in detail again
- i was just reminded of that and thought of new points to rant about going from that, no evil intentions in mind just when sth is mentioned again after some time i think about it again and can come up with more stuff-
(past points being- how?? shiekah tech seemed pretty indestructable, especialyl the big structures; it seemed like it was a literal holy thing for alot of people in the game; that it would be pretty damn stupid to spend so much energy and probably endanger people to dismanlte it since that time and energy would be better used rebuilding important infrastrucutre instead; if it stopped working why wouldnt you just kinda .. leave it there; why in hells name would you get rid of the shrine of life .. and i guess monk miz kyoshia with it???; shouldnt they be MORE afraid of sonau tech then??)
new thoughts
wouldnt it be logical to research and develope shiekah tech MORE so you can make sure it cant get corrupted again, like a security measure idk anti virus if you will lol
on the specific idea of zelda using it ... shouldnt she be the BEST person to use it bc she could, if it somehow got corrupted again, cleanse it/instantly deactivate it more easily than anyone else??
on the point of people not beign afraid of sonau tech ... that is still like the biggest problem for me with that argument bc .. i get beign afraid of shiekah stuff going haywire again, but then if suddendly alien tech from a literally fully unknown group of people started to appear out of nowhere at the sAME TIME AS MALICE COMES BACK BUT WORSE in the form of miasma shoudlnt that ring your alarm bells and make you flee for your life?? i wouldnt trust that shit after knowing what happened to the tech that we DID know shit about
i know theres like researchers for it but also they really all meddle and play with it immediately like its for them just as much a toy as it is for us the players (also a point that made me feel weird about it ngl), they build businesses around it, made minigames out of it with civilians, use it for transportation with no thought or concern about it, its really weird when this is supposedly takign palce after BOTW where FAMOUSLY ancient barely reasaearched tech got corrupted by evil goo and nearly destroyed the entire land of hyrule (man are they LUCKY gan suddendly has zero interest in ANY tech)
(and i know theres the possibilty that sonau tech is somehow not able to be corrupted but it just seems so dumb anyway bc the people cant KNOW that for sure right of the bat??? and it DOES get possessed with the broken construct too, like .. wouldnt the possibility alone .. esepcialyl with waht had happened in botw make you NOT want to use that alien tech like a toy?? especially with WORSE malice being around suddendly too?? that just smells like a recipy for disaster)
(... man totk realyl is just botw but worse ... the more i think about it the more it feels like that)

“The victim of grooming doesn’t consider herself a victim of grooming.” WOW it’s almost like that’s what GROOMING does to the victim. Who would’ve thought that grooming, the act of establishing a connection with a minor to lower the child’s wariness about those sorts of topics, would lead to the victim having difficulty knowing that they were groomed. WHO WOULD’VE THOUGHT?
The Snapchat messages don’t exactly help your case.

yknow what. im glad i like unpopular characters because when characters get popular, like ultra mega super popular, people woobify and bastardize them to such a degree that it seems like a nightmare to me. i don't think i can handle that. i would literally go crazy. so i'll just sit here in my little corner with my guys, happy and safe from mischaracterizations :)

I watched Waterworld last night again and it's kind of making me want to work on Flotillaworld again. Initially that game was a LUMEN hack. I think I might rewrite it to be an original system though.

Wait your telling me that Lesson 40 Nightbringer was MC, back in the timeline, the brothers welcoming us like we came back from what, shopping? Who don’t even know what friggin happened, like their memory was wiped or something…?
Bro I would have ripped everything apart after everything the MC went through, I mean I would be left traumatised. So now we’re gonna act like nothing happened?? We didn’t even get a glance at Nightbringer either.
At the very least it definitely felt lacking
There’s no way. People who still love the NB story and tell people to stop placing criticism in hard working devs and writers, do you still place your trust in Solmare?
