I've been working on a godot plugin for controlling how pixel art behaves with lighting, and I'm almost done with a really basic version! (more info under the cut)
this plugin is based on some techniques I have been developing over the years, featured most prominently in silt spawn.
it's a huge step forward though, since it requires no setup whatsoever, and it works with any normal light sources in the engine. the way it works is by generating an encoded sprite and a bespoke shader that can really quickly pick the exact color to show for each pixel based on how well-lit it is. as this gif shows, the plugin works with existing light sources and sprites, so you can really use these pixel-picky sprites as much or as little as you need!
now that the main feature is done, all I need to do is finish the UI in the editor, and then I'll feel comfortable releasing a bare-bones version of this plugin. I'm really proud of how it's coming along, and this quick little gif is just the beginning! :D

prologue done!
finally! <3 today will be spent play testing and by tomorrow or Friday it should hopefully be up for band tier. then I can go back to regular Patreon posts/holiday special + working on the rest. CH1 and CH2 should go by much faster because ive been working on them when I needed breaks from the prologue. CH3 has been outlined. The beta testers haven't all been chosen yet, so that will be announced when they do.
I've taken a lot of suggestions from everyone since the first demo came out, many of which you'll only see after the prologue. but in the prologue I've
expanded and added scenes
expanded choices (more personality choices for variation)(one example: you can now have an MC who is more reliant on drinking from the start aka more choices where MC expresses needing a drink lolol/more of a partier MC and on the other hand, there are more professional, reserved choices)(among others)
fixed prose, added more details, added more conversations
just added a lot more context
and more :)
the biggest would be the scene changes/additions. but yeah. I think this prologue is a lot stronger than it was. I hope it continues that way for the rest until CH3!
Obviously this is still alpha until the beta testers get their hands on it + give feedbacks and suggestions + the rest of the chapters may push me to add more context and additions but I really like it.

Story
The city of Noxton takes its name from one of the eight founding families, the Noxton family. Renowned publicly for their contributions to the city, privately, they are linked to the mysterious 'Drift.' Tragedy strikes the family on Melrose Noxton’s thirteenth birthday, marked by a horrific house fire following the appearance of the titular doctrine in the guesthouse. Three years later, the mystery remains unsolved, and life seemingly moves on, but not for Melrose – she remembers everything.
This story unfolds on Melrose’s sixteenth birthday, where you will uncover the inescapable horrors of the doctrine, unravel the secrets of the Noxton family, and confront the spirits of the 'Drift' that relentlessly seek to butcher anyone in their path. Happy Birthday, Melrose.

Developer's Note
Bios and artwork are subject to change before the final release of the game, and this post may be updated.
I currently have about an hour of content done, this is with all of the dialogue, and knowledge on how to proceed in-game. I imagine it'll be longer for new players. Currently working on the next portion. I'm hoping to have chapter zero available to play early 2024 on RMN, Steam, and Itch.io.
I've also been posting youtube shorts, I'd be super appreciative to anyone who likes/comments on them!

That's right!! We get to annoy the living daylights out of our big green boy again!!!
I'm so thankful for all the love and support A Tavern at Night has received (and continues to receive!)--and of course for the demands for more. Well, I heard you loud and clear, and here he is.

Firelight picks up after A Tavern at Night's "good" ending. There will be multiple endings, chooseable pronouns, and... some kind of card game! Sorry, Azram. There's no escape.

Finally done with the male skin, at long fucking last. That being said there's still a lot that I need to do, mainly finishing the female skin; then I have to convert both texture sets to the vanilla bodies, fix up some stuff on the back end of things, and create some patches for a few mods. There's also a few miscellaneous cosmetics I'm thinking about adding, like some optional whiskers and some custom makeup/colour overlays; but we will see if I get to that.

March ✮ 2 ✮ 2024 – update
Another non-update, but I just wanted to get it out there! Happy March! I'm glad everyone liked the flashback. I quite like long content like that because it gives me more freedom. Plus, it's fun.
✮ — March will be for
Choosing the beta testers. I got A LOT of submissions, which I'm really grateful for! But I only have plans to a handful as of right now. That will change as the story gets bigger and bigger and I'll have to add more. I'll make a post when I have chosen and DM'd the beta testers.
Finishing the rewrite. Am I wild to think I can finish chapter 1 and chapter 2 this month? Yeah. Will I try anyway? YES.
Chapter 3 development. Outline done. Beginning done (I started working on it on my off-time. Oops) Hopefully I can get somewhere substantial. With beta testers now, I won't have to worry over errors and coding. That's 40% of why it takes me as long as it does. We'll see!
Patreon content as usual.
I haven't finished the spicy snippets because I haven't been able to think of good scenarios for the remaining ROs. Once I do, I'll be sure to write them!
That valentines special...Yes. I haven't forgotten it! lol
