“Egyptologists were therefore surprised to find a short manual on embalming in a medical text that is primarily concerned with herbal medicine and swellings of the skin. The manual has recently been edited by Schiødt.” ( phys.org/ 2021-02 )
“Using chemical analysis, the scientific team led by the Universities of York and Macquarie uncovered evidence that the mummy had in fact undergone an embalming process, with a plant oil, heated conifer resin, an aromatic plant extract and a plant gum/sugar mixed together and used to impregnate the funerary textiles in which the body was wrapped.”
“This 'recipe' contained antibacterial agents, used in similar proportions to those employed by the Egyptian embalmers when their skill was at its peak some 2,500 years later.”

Abietane diterpenoids display varied biological activities. Besides antimicrobial, antiviral, antimalaria, antiulcer, antileishmaniasis, antioxidant activities reported by the scientists, they unveil antitumor-promoting activity, and antivirus properties via inhibiting viruses reproduction such as the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), cytomegalovirus (CMV), varicella zoster virus (VZV), and Epstein-Barr virus (González, 2015a; Tretyakova et al., 2015).
Aromatic abietanes are known to contain the largest abietane group. Dehydroabietic acid and ferruginol are main representatives of aromatic abietanes. Like most of the diterpenoids, aromatic abietans are mostly known as chemical defense agents. Antimicrobial, antileishmanial, antiplasmodial, antifungal, antitumor, cytotoxicity, antiviral, antiulcer, cardiovascular, antioxidant as well as antiinflammatory activities are the biological activities of this group reported up to now (González, 2015b).
