Butler is registered to vote in Maryland but will switch her registration to California.
Butler is a veteran organizer and well-known in Newsom’s orbit. He contemplated hiring the Southern Mississippi native to be his first chief of staff, and she was a one-time partner in the San Francisco-based consulting firm, now known as Bearstar Strategies, with his top political advisers.
She has remained a confidant of Vice President Kamala Harris, after serving as a senior strategist on her 2020 presidential campaign.

I'm saying it right now, if you're celebrating the fact that Diane Feinstein is dead, the spirit of Harvey Milk is very fucking pissed at you.

Oh no.
Just got the news that Diane Feinstein died today. It’s an incredibly sad day for this country. The discourse around her has become incredibly poisoned in recent years, and earlier this year especially. But she was an icon of the Senate, serving California and championing good causes for literal decades AND serving as one of the O.G. examples for women and girls aspiring to power and a career in politics.
Regardless of what you may think of her, she was on her way to retirement at the end of this Senate term. It is profoundly sad that she spent not just her last few years in office, but the last few years of her life, hounded by throngs of strident deriders and smeared in the opinion-sphere for the simple crime of not being ready yet to go. I had fervently wished that she would be allowed to retire in grace at the end of her term, and maybe live a few years of peace afterwards. It was the least she deserved. Sadly, neither have gone to pass.
Please, let us reflect on the entirety of her career in the coming days, and try to ignore the throngs of “I told you so”s sure to come from the worst people on the internet. It’s the least we could do. Remember all the good she’s done for this country. It is immense.

Diane Feinstein died in office today, the longest serving of the 59 women to ever serve in the US Senate. She was California's first woman elected to the US Senate, and the 18th woman to ever be elected to the Senate at all. She was the first woman to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the first woman to become the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee. She was behind the first congressional action on Global Warning, helped to outlaw the use of torture by the CIA, and secure the Violence Against Women Act until 2027. She was passionately against gun violence, and authored the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, which was in effect until 2007.
She was an accomplished Senator, an incredible woman, and did a great deal to push for protections for women and all vulnerable people. Her wisdom and courage in the Senator were deeply admired by many.
May her memory be a blessing.

The Silver Crest Donut Shop still looks just as it did when Dianne Feinstein campaigned there in 1979 - right down to the vintage pinball machines.

CUT THEM OUT OF PUBLIC OFFICE AT RETIREMENT AGE.
And honestly? She made a good argument for why people over a certain age threshold shouldn't vote or have their voting role reduced — I'm not saying I am necessarily CONVINCED of the argument, but "old people should not be able to affect policy for a world they will not live to see" is an argument with merits.
Our world and democracy have been undeniably octuple-fucked by old people dictating policy for a world that only the youth will inherit because those elderly lawmakers will die before they have to live through the consequences of their actions. Perhaps we SHOULD cut them out of not just policy-making, but policy-approving as well.
After all, the more we can discourage the "well I got mine, now fuck everyone else" mentality, the better we can make government a servant of the people again.

Fingers crossed that Mitch McConnell is next and also that it happens on live TV so I can make a remix of We Will Rock You out of the sound of his head hitting the podium as he collapses
