Ok So to start off Aaron Dismuke is the kindest and sweetest person ever. I met him at a convention in Australia and was super excited since he plays basically my favourite character. In the context of Oscar Pine I first asked him about his one word in v9 and what it was like recording that. He responded that he couldn’t remember recording it but said it was probably at the end of v8’s recording. He didn’t know the context of the line and said that it was just ‘Ruby’ and I talked about the scene itself with the context. He then said he wish he knew more about the scene with the line in order to understand it’s impact. I then asked what it was like to voice a character like Oscar with a guy in his head and a whole lot of trauma. He said it was interesting. We then joked about Oscar and how every volume he is either hit, stabbed, punched,shot or abused even when he isn’t in the actual volumeI then asked in a joking manner what’s gonna happen next. I then asked his opinion on the merge which he says he believes he will be fine in the end. I told him that the farmboi must be protected and he chuckled saying yeah there’s an Oscar protection squad and they are working overtime. He does think the prospect of the merge is interesting but thinks the story should lie ultimately with team Rwby and their narrative. Also I don’t know what he knows so there’s that. I then mentioned RoseGarden (I was cosplaying as Ruby too) and how they support each other and that there’s a whole fandom that ships them. He chuckled at my mention of the ship and then came up with his idea for my audio recording. I guess he could see how animated and excited I was talking about it. So yeah a audio recording (that lead me to cover my mouth In shock) and a photo and autograph later I finally said that I hope v10 gets green-lit and he replied that it has to and then I ended the conversation joking that it ended with remnant burning. I thanked him endlessly for his time and I went off with the biggest smile on my face. Later that day I went to a panel with all the voice actors at the con and you wouldn’t believe the intro segment that they chose for the farm boy 😭 anyway that’s all for the moment. Also if we could leave this in tumblr for the moment that would be appreciated 😊

Top 5 reasons I love RoseGarden

1. They help each other grow as people - Ruby and Oscar have really just helped each other flower into being the people they truly are meant to be. Oscar has became who he is due to support from the others, most commonly being Ruby. Meanwhile Ruby has became more of who she truly is with Oscar’s help in more subtle ways. With Oscar, she clearly has someone she wants to constantly look out for and make sure that he’s doing okay no matter what. Showing just how loyal and true of a friend she is to others, and how great of a protector she can be.

2. They’re incredibly supportive of one another - The two of them have done everything they possibly can to show how much they really support one another. Ruby was there to support Oscar when no one else really did all the way back in Volume 5. Then in Volume 6 she continued to express support for him and was the only person to remind him he was his own person. Later on in Volume 6, Oscar openly supported Ruby, letting her know he knew her plan would work. Then in Volume 7, they supported what each other chose to do and didn’t do anything rash until they came upon the agreement to be honest with Ironwood. Finally in Volume 8, Ruby expressed support for Oscar despite him seeing himself as a failure after not being able to convince Ironwood to listen to him. Then there’s also how the two of them have a habit of looking out for one another and being pretty commonly concerned for each other. Ruby’s concern for Oscar in V6, Oscar yelling out Ruby’s name multiple times, Ruby being the one to go out and look for Oscar in V8, and even in V9 Ruby showed concern for Oscar’s well being both in the first episode- and the other scene, no major spoilers here but we all know the one.

3. The amount of parallels is INSANE - Okay so, I’ll try my best to not spoil things as well as I possibly can. But oh my God the amount of parallels these two have is so freaking cute and really makes you think. Oscar in V7 & V8 foreshadowed so much that Ruby’s actions would mirror in V9. But even more than that, the two of them parallel other canon ships in the world like Summer/Tai and Ozma/Salem to a degree. They even have the whole Sun/Moon and Red/Green thing going on, not to mention Oscar only started wearing Red after he met Ruby and it’s been pretty much confirmed that people in Remnant will wear the colors of their partners/love interests. Then there’s even ones that have yet to get the proper payoff. Like- Oscar and Ruby FINALLY hugging, let’s hope that finally happens in V10.

4. The idea they found each other at the right time - They seemed to have found each other right when the other needed someone to help lift them up. Oscar had just been randomly chosen to be Ozpin’s next host and the information clearly weighed super heavily on him, and Ruby’s kind words clearly helped him feel so much better. Meanwhile, for Ruby, she had just lost a ton after all that happened at Beacon- so her having a new friend and someone who really trusts and believes her no matter what, it had to be helpful and make her feel like she’s really doing the right thing.

5. It’s too adorable to not love - This is the simplest reason, but they’re just two little dorks and it’s beautiful. The one reason that’s really not complex at all. I just love them.

HOLY SHIT OSCAR'S MUSIC STARTS PLAYING RIGHT WHEN THE PAPER SAID "MERGE WITH THE TREE" ON THE EXACT MOMENT RUBY FLINCHED AND KEPT PLAYING HIS MUSIC THE WHOLE TIME PAPER FELLA WAS TALKING ABOUT DEATH VS REBIRTH???? HOW HAS NO ONE NOTICED THIS I JUST WATCHED IT WHERE ARE THE POSTS?

AND THEN RUBY'S COMMENT AT BEING "SOOO HAPPY FOR YOU" TO HAVE WORKED THROUGH YOUR FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER, IN A MONOLOGUE CENTERED ON "WHAT ABOUT MY FEELINGS?"

Not to mention how much she sounded like Oscar, both as in his outburst in the Dojo scene (which we've all talked to death but this PARALLEL?), and just in the things she was saying. Stopping someone from trying to cheer them up, bluntly stating how bad things are, wanting to work through difficult feelings, etc....

And the orange pine trees right behind her. (Reach? Idk)

And the way her outburst in the Schnee dining room was immediately following Oscar saying "All of this doubt, and worry, and distrust, it isn't getting us anywhere." "Then nothing has changed! We're in the exact place we were yesterday! Fighting over what to do while the kingdom waits to die!"

And when he'd earlier said "And Ozpin is back" she pulled in her arms with a grumble, a movement which she also did the moment Oscar's music began following the PP mentioning "merging" with the tree... There is no way she isn't thinking about him there. You cannot convince me that music at that moment after that word was coincidence, you can't.

Ruby did EXACTLY what he did to her in the dojo scene by telling Blake, who was trying to cheer her up/unknowingly diminish her feelings -- to shut up /cutting her off. I always thought we'd get a Dojo Scene 2.0, but I always thought Oscar would be there when it happened.

I know we say "rosegarden canon" a lot but... y'all... rosegarden canon?

So miles did another cameo video about a week ago someone asked him what it would have been like if Oscar had gone to the ever after and Miles confirmed that if Oscar had been there with Ruby she wouldn't have gone through the conflict and trauma she was going through and volume nine if he had been there cuz Oscar would have been the one to notice it instantly unlike the others who didn't notice it till after she snapped at them

You can even see hints of it in the episode were they meet John again and they're at his house where Ruby sitting at the table and across from Ruby is an empty chair while Ruby sits there and look at Yang and Blake happily celebrating their new relationship Ruby sits there if so she's missing someone and that someone is Oscar I think

Funnily enough, you’re the second person to bring up the theory that the empty seat across from Ruby at Jaune’s home in the Ever After during the scene before Jaune returns Crescent Rose to Ruby could’ve easily been filled by Oscar.

It makes perfect sense that Oscar would’ve been the one to notice Ruby’s depression if he were there since he has been shown to be weary of that in previous seasons such as the infamous dojo scene. Oscar noticing Ruby’s change in demenour is what initially prompted him to push her to admit her true feelings about everything that happened during the Fall of Beacon.

Not to mention that when Ruby was shown to be overwhelmed at the Cotta-Arc during the moment when Jaune exploded after JNR learned the truth about Oz and Salem, Oscar was the one to take notice of this and even did his best to help quell the situation.

Oscar has always been observant of Ruby’s feelings especially when she is at her lowest. It’s one of the reasons why I love their dynamic so much. Ruby has always been protective of Oscar since the moment he joined the team, looking out for him in her own way just as much as he looked out for her.

Oscar should’ve been there for Ruby in the Ever After just as how Ruby should’ve been the one to lead the charge to save him from Monstra instead of Jaune back in V8.

I absolutely hated the fact that Ruby was omitted from Oscar’s side of the story back then and this is one of the reasons why I didn’t enjoy that season.

The CRWBY showrunners spent the last few seasons continuously building up this shared sense of caring and protectiveness as the basis of the Rosegarden friendship and yet…there was no payoff?

They showed prior moments of Ruby protecting Oscar yet…she was completely absent during his most dire time of need---being a prisoner of Salem and brutally tortured by her and Hazel for hours. Ruby was not allowed to protect Oscar from that.

They showed prior moments of Oscar being a voice of wisdom to encourage Ruby to open up and be honest with herself and those around her yet…he was absent during her darkest emotional moment yet---her literal breaking point where she committed the Ever After equivalent of suicide.

You see the pattern?

Neither Ruby nor Oscar were present during each other’s worse moments.

They weren’t allowed to because the writers knew, canonically, these two would be each other’s true savior---their beacon in the darkness to get more metaphorical.

Because they needed the story to go a different way to get the ending that we actually got in V8 and V9, that’s how it had to go.

If Oscar has gone to the Ever After then Ruby would’ve never had her whole arc which…needed to happen. Although, some might argue that the whole point of Ruby’s journey in the Ever After was ultimately made pointless by her going from “no longer wanting to be Ruby Rose anymore” to “being Ruby Rose just as I am is enough. I’m Ruby-nough! I don’t need to change at all. I’m perfect just the way I am even with the flaws that I still possess that led me down this path in the first place”.

Sarcasm aside, I don’t dislike the fact that Ruby chose to be herself in the end. Being yourself and having yourself be enough is a good message. I just wished the showrunners had allowed this concept to cook more. While I’m aware they were pressed for time given the fact that no V10 was greenlit, nevertheless, I would’ve rather a twist where only Weiss, Blake, Yang and Jaune were able to return home while Ruby remained in the Ever After to complete her transformation.

We spent nearly an entire season building up to Ruby’s breakdown. It took 8 out of 10 episodes to have Ruby fall apart only to have her have her big revelation in the last episode. That makes the whole thing seem almost flat so I don't blame some fans for being disappointed with the conclusion to Ruby's Ever After story being concluded that way.

I dunno about you anon-chan but this just makes me disappointed that Oscar wasn’t present for the Ever After Arc because all cues prior to V9 hinted that he could’ve easily been added to this season and worked.

Oscar was the one who first introduced the audience to the fairytale of the Girl Who Fell Through the World.

Not to mention the whole theme of the Ever After being about embracing change---Oscar SHOULD’VE gone to the Ever After. Part of Oscar’s journey is about him coming to terms with the Merge with him either losing himself completely or becoming a new person entirely.

Seeing Oscar going through his own arc while trying to help Ruby with hers could've been great to see. But alas, that's not what we got.

I will give the showrunners this though---if Oscar had gone to the Ever After then we probably may not have gotten the clue that Ruby cares deeply for him.

It is very evident after V9 that Oscar's life is precious to Ruby. Shipping and romantic implications asides, you can't deny the fact that Oscar's wellbeing is important to Ruby.

Much like characters such as Penny and Pyrrha, Oscar is someone who Ruby doesn't want to lose.

Better yet, he is someone precious to Ruby that she doesn't wish to lose as a result of her failure.

Take a look at the deaths of Pyrhha and Penny. What do those deaths have in common?

Ruby failing to stop it from happening in the first place.

Ruby was present for Penny's first death but arrived too late to stop it from happening.

Ruby was present for Pyrhha's death but arrived too late to stop it from happening.

Ruby was present again for Penny's final death but got tossed into the Ever After before she could do anything to help stop it from happening.

Once again, Penny died and Ruby failed to stop it from happening. This is why the words of her illusion cut Ruby deeply during the Mad Tea Party fight.

"...Just like you were too late to save me at the Vytal Festival. I died in Atlas too, didn't I? Could you imagine what that's like? To be completely and utterly failed time and again by someone who meant the world to you..."

Similar to Penny, Ruby is someone who Oscar has been shown to care deeply for and Ruby, in turn, cares a lot for him. The evidence of that has been shown sprinkled throughout the seasons. There is no denying that these two smaller, more honest souls care very much for each other.

While there has yet to be any payoff to the development in their relationship as yet, one thing's for certain is that Oscar is a person of importance to Ruby.

He is someone she doesn't want to lose. He is someone she doesn't want to fail.

He is someone she can't stand to watch die because of her own inability to protect him.

Not again after she's failed others like him in the past.

Overall, I guess the point I'm trying to make here is, while it would've been great to see Oscar in the Ever After with Ruby (since he definitely would've prevented her breakdown), at the same time, the showrunners did still found a way to use his presence as part of the narrative to signify something about his connection to Ruby.

Oscar needed to be absent in order to Ruby to have her arc yet ironically, he was the reason for Ruby's breakdown in the first place. While Little's death was the final straw that drove Ruby over the edge, before that moment, it was actually the imagery of Oscar's death caused by HER HANDS that drove Ruby to her final breaking point.

While it would've been nice to see Oscar there with Ruby, in a way, he was still there with her---being used by Neo to indicate to the audience that Oscar is a person of dear importance to Ruby.

Moving forward, I expect the events of V9 to have some kind of impact on Ruby's overall relationship with Oscar. I want to believe the events of the Ever After would make Ruby more overprotective of Oscar; possibly hinting at much deeper feelings. That's how I see it.

Do you think Rosegarden still has a chance? I know that shouldn't be my takeaway from today's episode...my brain is just in a weird place and I'd like to know your opinion

So, here's what I got to say about this, anon.

I don't think it's off the table. Oscar undoubtedly has a crush on Ruby. He has been seen repeatedly more concerned about her well-being than the others:

Miles has said that their relationship is built on "adorable awkwardness and immense respect and admiration for each other", which I found to be a pretty good foundation for a relationship if there ever was one. We've seen how quickly Ruby and Oscar have come to trust each other, especially when you look at the Dojo Scene in A Necessary Sacrifice, and see that Oscar was the first person that Ruby had opened up to about her traumas and fears surrounding Beacon and the battle ahead.

On top of that, Oscar was also the first person to ask how Ruby was doing. The others try to support Ruby, but they haven't really been looking at her. She's struggling, she's been struggling, and she keeps it all bottled in because she doesn't want to burden them, and Oscar doesn't think that's okay. If he's allowed to be afraid, then she is, too.

Of course, that Dojo Talk was one of the memories Ruby thought of when she was activating her silver eyes in Our Way to defeat the Leviathan:

I do not believe that's a coincidence. Certainly not when the tree stanza in Until the End plays right as Yang is asking where Oscar was in the V7 finale. And, to add to that, the Until the End motif plays in the beginning of Divide, specifically when Oscar is staring into the fire.

And, of course, we cannot forget about his blush, as I mentioned. He canonically has a crush on Ruby. Some may say, "Oh, but he blushed when Neon called him cute", and to that, I say, duh! He was embarrassed and feeling awkward because he likely has never had that sort of attention before.

But the thing is, we've had many times of blushes in RWBY, and all it takes is a little analytical observation to recognize the context of them.

For instance, we have blushes that represent awkwardness:

In these moments, Blake and Oscar were feeling awkward at the moment. Blake was feeling a little awkward over Yang's opinions on her new outfit, and Oscar had just been flirted with, probably for the first time.

Then we have blushes that represent embarrassment:

Ruby and Nora were feeling embarrassed at the moment. Ruby had been complimented out of the blue and, well, Nora had landed in a position that put Ren in "visible panties" range.

Next, we have blushes that represent relief:

Ruby was relieved at this moment. hadn't seen Yang in nearly two days, their last interaction being a fight, lost total connection with her, watched Salem invade Atlas, and was hunted down by a monster that turned out to be a fucking Person.

Up next, we've got blushes that represent anger:

Ruby was pissed right here. She was about to comfort Oscar, who was looking like he was hit by a train thrice times over and then saw Emerald. The person who she once thought was her friend, who betrayed her and helped take down Beacon, and subsequently led to the death of Pyrrha and Penny the first time.

And finally, we have blushes that represent attraction:

Definitively, all of these blushes were from their attraction. Blake was calling Sun a dork while he did a silly little dance, back when they were doing the BlackSun route, Yang was very clearly attracted to Blake at this moment, and Ilia had literally confessed to being attracted to Blake.

And then we get to Oscar's blush in Divide:

He blushed when Ruby touched his shoulder. He did not blush when she comforted him, he did not blush out of embarrassment or awkwardness or relief, he blushed when she touched his shoulder.

There is no context beyond attraction that makes sense for the reason of his blush.

Blushing, used in tandem with common tropes, is used as a device in storytelling, especially in visual storytelling, to portray emotions, and as we've seen above, it can be a variety of different emotions. But it is irrefutable knowledge that blushing used as a tool to portray romantic attraction is the most common trope.

So, to get to the point I wanted to make: they need to resolve Oscar's blush. Whether it's one-sided and he eventually loses it like Blake with Sun and Weiss with Neptune, or he and Ruby get together, at some point, it needs to be addressed in one way or another.

Beyond his crush, there are many parallels the two have, including narrative tropes such as chosen ones, and as Miles said: "Ruby chose adventure, adventure chose Oscar", sun/moon symbolism, a search for their identity, and both having been burdened with the fate of the world and mankind without their consent, with Ruby being a silver-eyed warrior and Oscar being a like-minded soul to Oz, and thus being his next host in the merge. Those are just to name a couple.

Another thing is that RWBY has put a heavy emphasis on souls. Ruby is a "smaller, more honest soul" and a "simple soul", while Oscar is a "like-minded soul", so they have that parallel. Both have direct ties to one of the biggest and most important aspects of the show.

And of course, we have the manor fumble in As Above, So Below and the almost-hug during their reunion in Ultimatum:

I could go on and on, but I won't, because I want to get to the second part of my answer. That being, I also don't think it's as likely as I previously hoped it would be. They've got a LOT going for them, in my opinion, but in all honesty, so does Nuts n Dolts.

Altercation at the Auspicious Auction definitely has a lot going for it in terms of giving us Nuts n Dolts crumbs, more than any other episode, I'd say.

We have the scene with Jinxy, where when Ruby bids for the jade doll that she's drawn to, he asks Ruby to give up "enough hope to fill [the] jar", and then the scene angles the jar where it looks like the doll has "filled" the jar.

That right there says that Ruby saw Penny as hope. As her hope. And now it's gone. She lost her once, got her back, did everything in her power to protect her, and failed. She failed, and Penny is dead.

And after that scene, we get Penny's eulogy:

"The weapon of a powerful warrior. Not just a powerful warrior, the most powerful to ever live. She was touched by magic and she gave her life for thousands. She took a message of hope to the stars and she saw the world through better eyes".

I'll just say now that Penny's eulogy is one of the most beautiful and gut-wrenching things I've ever heard. It also shows that Ruby saw Penny in a different light than other people. She quite literally saw her as better than the rest of the world, or more accurately, more pure.

Truth be told, this episode has absolutely made me go, hey! Nuts n Dolts might actually be confirmed canon! And honestly, I wouldn't be particularly upset about it. I like Nuts n Dolts. I just prefer it in an AU sense. I have some particular criticisms of their relationship in the show that turned me away from them having a canon relationship, but I really do like the ship in any other sense.

I'm not sure how they would go about this because Penny is dead; I don't think a relationship is possible unless they did some resurrection shenanigans, which I personally don't like, not to mention that Penny is supposedly a part of Winter now, so I'm not even sure how a resurrection would be done.

But otherwise, I do think that Nuts n Dolts has a good chance of being confirmed canon. But I also think that Rosegarden is still on the table and has a pretty good chance, too. As a hardcore Rosegarden shipper, I'd be ecstatic if Rosegarden became canon, but we don't always get what we want, and really, RWBY isn't a romance show.

So, it's not like I'd get hung up on it if it doesn't. I'll be bummed, then get back to the story and characters, because ultimately, that's what I'm here for.

TL;DR:

Yes, I think Rosegarden still has a pretty good chance, just not as much as before, and I think Nuts n Dolts has a decently high chance, too. I won't be upset if Nuts n Dolts is confirmed, I love the ship in AUs. I'll be bummed if Rosegarden doesn't get confirmed, but we're all adults and we should recognize that shipping is meant for fun, not wars, and move on with our lives no matter what ship gets confirmed.

Or Ruby doesn't end up with anyone, I get my aro rep, and we continue writing fanfiction and drawing fanart of our ships.

Rosegarden Week 2023🌹Day 1: Wonderland

Late! Late! Late!

Oscar checked his pocket watch again, the ornate long hand ticking ever closer to the calligraphic number 9.

He huffed, leaping over a log and trying to double his speed towards his destination.

Why oh why did the Queen have to insist that everything start on the dot? What harm was there in starting five minutes after the allotted time once everyone had arrived?

Sometimes, working for a monarch with a hair-trigger temper did not pay. Five rabbit heralds could attest to that.

Or couldn’t, as it were.

But getting crushed by trees also didn’t pay, he thought as a massive tumtum tree nearly flattened him as it feel towards him, landing with a crash.

He probably should have paid it no mind, already being in danger of arousing the Queen’s ire for tardiness, but Oscar stared down at the fallen tree as curiosity got the better of him.

Was someone logging without a permit?

Another crackle and crash signaled that a second tree had fallen somewhere to his right. And it sounded like someone was talking.

Oscar hopped off the forest path, stepping over rocks and roots all while the fallen trees became more numerous.

Couldn’t be logging, he thought, there wouldn’t be this many trees if they were taking them. And there’s no sign of any way to transport them.

Another tree fell up ahead, and birds all around him took off in fright of the noise it made and finally, Oscar saw the source of the clamor.

A girl in a red cloak with black hair, probably only a year or so his senior at most, stood at the head of the path, swinging what looked like a massive scythe effortlessly. With one swing, she felled another tumtum tree.

Approaching her (and all the while mulling over the drawbacks of approaching a heavily armed young lady), Oscar could hear that she was apparently babbling to herself.

 “Where’s the road? Where’s that cat!? Where’s… anything!?!”

The girl swung the scythe again in her passion, part of a trunk splintering as the blade embedded itself. The girl grunted, trying to pull it from the wood she had stuck it in. With the sharp end captured, Oscar decided now was the time to make his presence known. He reached out and tapped her on the shoulder.

“Um… pardon me?”

The girl turned and in spite of himself, Oscar felt shock run through him when he saw that the girl had silver eyes. Not grey eyes, but rather brighter and more luminescent in color. Silver seemed the best color to describe her eyes.

Eyes that widened when she beheld him before throwing her arms around him.

“Thank God!” she cried “A person!”

Oscar felt his cheeks heat up as he felt her press against him and hug him tightly. The girl must have felt the same way, because her own cheeks had turned a deep shade of crimson when she pulled away.

“Sorry,” she said, looking towards the ground, “I… just haven’t seen a person the whole time I’ve been here. And the whole time…”

The girl paused, seemingly considering something, before suddenly, words began to spill out of her.

“Do you know where I am? What is this place? And why are caterpillars such jerks!?”

At the mention of caterpillars, the girl turned and grabbed the scythe she had been swinging and managed to yank it from where it had been stuck. In short order, Oscar replied.

“You’re in the Tugley Wood, this is Wonderland, and I haven’t met any caterpillars so I can’t say.”

The girl frowned.

“Wonderland?”

Oscar nodded.

“Yes. But, where did you get that?” 

“This?”

“I found it in a little room. It had a tag that said ‘use me’ on it.”

Oscar pointed to the scythe the girl was once again

“This? I found it in a little room. It had a tag that said ‘use me’ on it.”

“Interesting,” Oscar said, “I think we might need to talk to the queen about this.”

“The Queen?” the girl asked.

Oscar frowned. How did this girl not know about the Queen?

“The Queen of Hearts?” he asked, “The Ruler of Wonderland?”

Ruby shook her head.

“Haven’t heard of her.”

Oscar nodded.

“In that case, we really are going to have to see her.”

Oscar took the girl’s hand and led her back onto the path towards his previous destination.

“By the way,” he said, “I’m Oscar.

The girl, for the first time since meeting her, smiled.

“I’m Ruby,” she said.

essentially Salem created a new kind of Grimm, one that has the ability to infect humans. If done correctly, she can transform them into grimm. A sorta early prototype to what she does during V8 with the S.E.W yknow?

the infection seeps through the bloodstream and enters through open wounds. from there it travels to the brain first, attacking your mentality and slowly corrupting you from the inside out.

effects include-

high chances of sudden aggression and rage

extreme resilience to pain

human mentality slowly dwindling into a feral-like state

tougher skin

sharper vision (partial color blindness downside)

invisible to Grimm (due to them sensing emotion, the Infection drowns out the scent and causes them to think you're one of them)

inability to use Aura on effected skin and muscle, making wounds permanent/more dangerous on infected skin

And eventually fully turning you into a Grimm. or at least a very animal-like human

theres also one more effect Salem didnt plan on, and thats the ability to command Grimm yourself if you are infected long enough. risk reward n all that.

during the travel to Mistral and Haven, Ozpin had Oscar train before and during their trip to the station. unfortunately instead of finding Hazel, a Grimm attacks them and being a new kind, Ozpin was woefully unprepared causing his son to get hurt. the Grimm dies but Ozpin watches in horror as the inky blackness quickly begins seeping up his son's arm and into his very body.

in a moment of pure panic, Ozpin yanks Oscar close and reaches deep within his old old soul to pull out that sweet sweet magic, using it to take half the infection from Oscar. think 60/40. it stopped it from rushing so quickly, but the damage was done. both of them were infected now and it was only a matter of time before it got worse.

of course this Grimm hadnt been around before. it was only just created by the time volume 4 began, meaning some sort of cure was basically impossible to find or create. Ozpin simply settled for keeping an eye on his and Oscar's condition to make sure it didnt get worse

it did :)

eventually the infection traveled from arm to brain, seeping into their minds and effecting their thoughts, as well as physically showing on their faces. the mental effects kick in during the battle of Haven where Oscar gets hurt by Hazel, who threw him to get to Ozpin, and Ozpin practically snapping and going as hard as he possibly could to protect his son. absolutely feral he was screaming and playing as dirty as possible, at some point he bit Hazel??? he managed to hit him so fast so hard the pain broke through Hazel's semblance and that caused the fighting around them to pause just briefly

the physical effects (as shown above) begin to appear during the Brunswick farm and the full effect (eye change and proper heavy lines connecting to the face and spreading downwards) happened at the Arc house with high tensions. the infection gets worse with stress, more powerful when the mind is on high alert, so staying calm is essential.

Ozpin eventually has to admit that like with Salem, he has no plan for this. he wants to take more infection from Oscar but that'd just doom him and if they lose this body now it'll be hell to start over, hes too deep in

Oscar meanwhile is just...scared. he left his aunt wanting bigger better things, to be a hero like his papa, but now hes just afraid

Something interesting that I realized is that when you mentioned the Rosarium Philosophorum and its meaning, I remembered Ruby and Oscar because they are both an alchemical couple and it is called Rosegarden.

Yep! Unless the creators came up with the ship name (I don't think they did, but correct me if I'm wrong!) it's a coincidence, but dang if it isn't a hilariously, even eerily, fitting coincidence. Which does happen! Sometimes!

So yesterday I met Aaron Dismuke at a con and he is legit the sweetest person ever he really liked my Ruby cosplay too. We talked Rosegarden, Oscar, the merge, he mentioned the Oscar protection squad and how we are doing a splendid job, Oscar’s trauma and much more. I also got both a photo and autograph. WHAT IN THE FUCKEN OWL HOUSE DID I JUST WITNESS?!

Okay okay, first of all, Neo is clearly a psychopath. I know we all knew it already, but this really shows to what extent.

I wanted Penny and Pyrrha to stay dead but those who asked for it got their wish. They’re back in the Ever After just to break Ruby and disappear. Also, I am not enjoying how they’re pushing RoseGarden. Had to internally scream to the heavens for that.

Also, it is very clear that Weiss is the one to talk to Ruby when the time comes. She clearly understood the situation best. This talk between the besties/girlfriends is building up immensely and I love it!

There reason I mentioned Owl House is because THIS CAT IS EVIL AND IS POSSESSING SHIT?! This is my guess to what happened to Alyx’s brother. Possessed for knowledge and left to die.

So the tree isn’t death. If it was, the cat would have no hope in trying to go there. The tree is the way out. Ruby is fine. How fine? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.

...Sooo....About The Owl House...

So I’ve been quietly catching up on The Owl House Season 2 and following today’s episode, I’ve got a couple of comments to make regarding this season as a whole thus:

I know I mentioned in my first commentary-like review of Owl House Season 1 that Willow Park was my favourite character in the whole show.

And while I still love Willow very, very much---she’s still my girl---as of Season 2, the Golden Guard a.k.a Hunter has officially become my favourite.

Not this squiggle meister falling for yet ANOTHER magical golden little prince with a tragic backstory where he is the reincarnation of a character closely connected to the main antagonist of the series. Totally not me, at all.

I think right now Hunter and Willow are both tied for my personal all-time favourite characters as a fan of the Owl House series… which is in turn is also perfect since I’m also starting to ship them as well.

Not this squiggle meister falling for yet another budding relationship between a golden little prince and his OBVIOUS crush on a powerful girl with glowing eyes and a flower/plant themed name and motif.

Not me again shamelessly tossing myself, shipping heart first down this never-ending rabbit hole again. Certainly not again at all. Ahahaaa~ :V

I blame “Any Sport in a Storm” for this. I did not go into Season 2 of The Owl House expecting to walk out a Huntlow shipper…just as how I did not go into Volume 5 of RWBY expecting to walk out a Rosegarden shipper. It just happened and here I am. Don’t come at me please :V

But can you blame me though? Can you really blame me for becoming a Huntlow shipper?

Hunter and Willow are both already terrific characters and what’s better is that their growing bond is just as SO GODDAMN CUTE!.

No episode proved this more to me than today’s new episode---Labyrinth Runners.

Did you see the way golden boy blushed when he saw Willow (while it was a fake Willow—he still blushed when he saw her because he thought it was her)?

Did you see the way golden boy instantly recognized that Willow wasn’t his Captain?

Speaking of, can I take a moment to appreciate how Hunter still addresses Willow as captain despite leaving the Emerald Entrails team? Not only that but can we also take a minute to gush over how much Hunter respects Willow as much as he obviously likes her.

“…That’s not the captain.” “ You’re scaring me, Hunter.” “Have you ever seen her play Flyer Derby? There’s no way she’s be afraid of me.”

Not only does Hunter acknowledge Willow’s strength and courageous nature but…he sadly does so more than Gus and Amity who both have known Willow longer than him. But to be fair, I can’t be too mad at either of them since a) Amity just started being friends with Willow again and you can tell from this episode that she still harboured some guilt over bullying/ failing to defend her as a friend for all those years. And b) Gus has his own diffidence in respect to genuine friendships after his gullibility got the better of him in the past. Like I said, I’m not making this point to denounce Gus and Willow in any kind of way. Not at all. I’m just pointing it out as something I highlighted about Hunter as a character in reference to his connection to Willow.

And this little detail makes me like the prospect of them liking each other even more.

And then, the icing on the cake---Hunter trying to act all coy, playing he walking past Willow and Gus hugging only for Willow to pull him in to join in on the hug. I just…beautiful. Simple perfection.

Seriously, Labyrinth Runners is easily my favourite episode of this season and that’s hard to say since I also deeply enjoyed “Hollow Mind”, “Any Sport in a Storm” and countless other episodes of this season so far. Seriously the Owl House team has been killing with the writing this season thus far. There has yet to be an episode that I haven’t enjoyed in some way and don’t get me started on the character development this season.

I especially love what this season has been doing with Gus. I love how we got more Gus development this season. It's small but still enough to tell you a lot about him which is great. I like how we got to learn more about him. Gus is easily one of the most sociable characters in the main cast but I like how we’ve been seeing a more vulnerable side to him as well. Especially in today’s episode.

I think the core reason why I love the Labyrinth Runner episode so much is what it did for Gus’ friendship with Hunter. I love how this episode genuinely showed Hunter and Gus caring about each other and becoming friends. I loved how in the end, Hunter was the one to technically “save” Gus this episode and vice versa.

It’s great development for both of them since when Gus first met Hunter in "Any Sport in a Storm", he was the most suspicious of him. So to see these two become good friends this episode, it’s just so wholesome and great. I just love it.

Now Gus has another genuine friend in Hunter as he does with Willow and Luz. Speaking of friends, I loved how this episode also highlighted how the whole Flyer Derby team are Hunter’s friends. This isn’t just inclusive of Willow and Gus. Viney and Skara also think so too and it was good great to hear that they vouched for him to be saved when the Coven Scouts tried to take him back to Belos.

There is just so much GREAT in this episode! LOVE IT.

Now to close this post with a theory, somewhat for TOH:

Trinity of Magic

Remember that episode back in season one where the combined magical energies or whatnot between Luz, Gus and Willow caused Hooty to turn into a literal moving house?

Since then I’ve been waiting to see if there will be a story reason for that. And while the show has yet to bring that back, after Labyrinth Runners and seeing just how powerful Gus is with another example of young witch with glowing eyes, I wonder if there will be a story reason for this.

Before, Willow was the only witch confirmed to have their eyes glow whenever unleashing the full might or potential of their magic. Now today, here we have Gus showing the extent of his illusion magic. I wonder if there will be a story reason for this that ties back to “Hooty’s Moving Hassle”.

Are Luz, Gus and Willow part of some kind of magical…trinity or something?

I know Gus and Willow are technically full-born witches whereas Luz is human. But technically, Luz is already proving herself to become some kind of prodigy of wild magic through the use of glyphs.

I dunno. This is just me spitballing here. However, after “Labyrinth Runners”, I’m really starting to get the feeling that there may be something very special to main magical trio than meets the eye. But that’s just my theory.

Why I love RoseGarden (Full Essay[?, Idk what to call it])

Reason 1: How They Support Each Other

Okay so this is probably the biggest part of this all but I really wanted to talk about this because- Oscar and Ruby have supported each other A LOT, so of course this gonna be the 1st reason I discuss, but enough of my rambling, onto the reasoning:

Let’s take a look at the past 4 Volumes real quick and do an alaysis of 7 scenes in particular

-Volume 5-

Scene 1: Dojo Scene (V5 Ep5)

In the scene that all RoseGarden fans, including myself, love so much. We have Ruby comforting Oscar and being there by his side to give him support and encouragement to keep pressing onwards, to keep going on cause he will get stronger and that just by being there, it already says alot about him. This shows that Ruby does believe in Oscar and knows he can do this, he just needs a little help along the way. A little push.

Scene 2: Ruby is Hurt Scene (V5 Ep12)

In this scene that all RoseGarden fans ALSO love, Oscar immediately rushes to Ruby’s side whenever she is hurt by Emerald and knocked down. Kneeling down and encouraging her to get back up and keep fighting, telling her that they need her. This shows that Oscar has already developed pretty strong feelings for Ruby atleast as a friend by this point in time, despite them not knowing each other for very long.

-Volume 6-

Scene 1: Ruby reassuring Oscar (V6 Ep4)

In this fairly short scene, we see Ruby return Oscar’s cane back to him and comfort him after what just happened with Jinn. When Oscar asks her if he is just another one of Ozma’s lives, Ruby is quick to reply saying that he isn’t, that he is his own person. Even putting her other hand ontop of his, showing that she does genuinely care for Oscar and doesn’t want him thinking that he doesn’t matter, that he’s not just another Ozma, that he’s Oscar Pine and that wasn’t changing.

Scene 2: Oscar reassuring Ruby (V6 Ep10)

In this also fairly short scene, we see Ruby looking doubtful about the whole plan she has involving Cordovin’s Mech. Obviously having a hard time believing that it’ll work out, to which Oscar steps in and reassures her that it will work. His confident smile during this all, shows that he does believe in the plan and isnt just saying he does for Ruby too feel better, but that he trusts her and knows that it’ll all work under her leadership.

-Volume 7-

Scene 1: Ruby trusts Oscar to keep the lamp safe (V7 Ep3)

In this scene, which is somewhat short, Ruby hands the lamp off to Oscar, cause she is going down to the Tundra. She knows that Oscar will keep the lamp safe and out of the wrong hands while in Atlas, which he does, all the way until he ends up getting ambushed by Neo and the lamp is stolen. (Not focusing on the Oscar side of this scene here, but we will discuss that in the next scene analysis) The fact Ruby shows no restraint when handing the lamp off to Oscar, despite the fact Ozpin is in his head and could return any minute for all they know, shows that she really does trust Oscar as Oscar. She knows that he knows the right thing to do and isn’t worried about what choices he’ll make.

Scene 2: Oscar takes the burden off Ruby’s shoulders (V7 Ep9)

In this scene, which gets build up in the previous scene with Oscar asking Ruby if hiding Oz’s secrets from Ironwood was a good move or not, we see Ruby and Oscar, very nervously, talking about how they feel about telling Ironwood. In which they both reveal that they both think they should tell Ironwood. Which I think is all well and good, and really cute, but I’m more focused on what comes after. Ruby says that she’ll tell Ironwood what Jinn told them, but upon seeing she is needed elsewhere, Oscar immediately steps up to take on the burden of telling Ironwood what Oz was hiding, no matter what Ironwood’s reaction would be. He is willing to take this huge burden off of Ruby’s shoulders because she needs to do something even more important at the moment, and he doesn’t wanna hold her back from doing it. Despite how Ironwood may react, Oscar shows no fear or hesitation and is more than willing to do this for Ruby, in place of her.

-Volume 8-

Scene 1: Ruby going to find Oscar (V8 Ep1)

In this scene, which is an absolute gold mine for all us RoseGarden shippers, a good amount goes on. First off, Ruby goes out to find Oscar, though she likely is unsure if he is even alive, and eventually does find him. When she does, she is visibly very happy too see him again, alive and somewhat well. Oscar and Ruby are then seemingly talking about what happened in Atlas, with Oscar claiming that every choice he made was the wrong one. She then reassures him that he just did what he thought was right, that they all did, and that she is just glad to see him alright. Too which he blushes upon being touched by her and told that (Boy definitely crushing but more on that later). This whole scene was just really cute and wholesome too see how Ruby does care about Oscar alot, and that she is happy too see him alright. Which is really just- pure. While also reassuring him that he isn’t too blame for all that happened, that he can’t be beating himself up over this all and it isn’t his fault.

So basically, I just like too see these scenes because they show that the two have alot of trust in each other, and are always there to reassure each other through anything, that they’re there for each other, and are always a support for one another. That one can always lean on the other for support if needed, they’ll be their rock. Also if the pattern keeps up, possibly another Oscar supporting Ruby scene coming this volume! Cause those are always in the later half of the volumes, while the Ruby ones are always in the earlier halves.

Reason 2: How They Inspire Each Other

How Oscar inspires Ruby: While he may not inspire her as much as she inspires him, Oscar still does inspire Ruby in a few ways. She seems to be genuinely impressed with how he handles things despite being so young. Like when he successfully lands the airship despite being just a fourteen year old farm hand. She seemed geniunely surprised and impressed, and this probably isn’t the only time he has made her feel that way, so it seems safe to say that Oscar in some way does inspire Ruby.

How Ruby inspires Oscar: Ruby inspires Oscar in a whole multitude of ways. Ruby is the inspiration that gave Oscar a reason to keep pressing on and keep fighting despite everything, despite how scared he was. She made him realize his true inner strength and bravery, made him realize that he can do this. After that talk she had with him in Volume 5, he seemed much more confident and ready for the road ahead. She also inspired him to see himself as more than just the next Ozpin in Volume 6, or atleast, tried too. It was hard with how much others were kind of holding him back from doing so due to their frustrations with Ozpin at the moment, but It seems Ruby was in some way able to help Oscar realize that he is more than just Ozpin part 2.

Reason 3: Oscar’s (Hinted at) True Feelings

Something that was pretty much confirmed this volume is that Oscar does have some deeper feelings towards Ruby, most likely a crush, whenever he blushes at her just putting her hand on his shoulder and saying that she is glad too see him alright.

But this was not the first hint that Oscar may have some feelings towards Ruby, as there have been a few sprinkled throughout the series if you look close enough. Which is something that I really like about this ship, there have been small subtle hints too it for a while now, in reality, since the very beginning. When Oscar first even meets Ruby, the first thing he seems to notice about her is her eyes, and says the quote “You have silver eyes” but the way he says it and the look on his face, gives more the impression of him finding them unique and beautiful, rather than a source of power like most other people would. (A girls eyes are also often one of the first few things a guy notices about her and finds attractive, which seems to be the case here for the young pine tree)

There was another moment when they first met that also gives the impression Oscar may have started having some sort of feelings for her right off the bat, keep in mind though, I’m not saying this was a crush just yet, rather he just found her pretty and/or attractive in some way. This was that whenever the two first met and Oscar saw Ruby smile and giggle, he immediately blushed and became a little bit nervous around her in an adorkable way. (A smile is often another thing a guy first notices about a girl he finds attractive, as is her laugh)

Another thing I wanna mention is that he almost always looks at Ruby whenever the two of them are in a room together, she doesn’t even have to be saying or doing anything and his eyes will still drift towards Ruby without fail. Which could just be a cute subtle way of showing his growing emotions towards Ruby as the series progresses. And if he ever sees her in any sign of danger he is always quick to call out her name and usually reach out towards her.

Aswell, the next point I’d like to mention in this segment, is how Oscar changed up his outfit to have bits of red in it. But, this red doesn’t really make much sense at first glance if you look at it, as it seems to just be there cause it looks kind of cool on his outfit, but this is RWBY and almost everything has some kind of significance too it, especially colors, so this could be one of those cases where a character adds a color to their outfit too show a fondness or closeness for another character. To show a closer attraction towards them, as it was confirmed people in Remnant do that. But who could this red be for- none other, than Ruby Rose herself. The only one with red as their main color and the one Oscar has grown the closest too across the course of the series. Like how Jaune has red in the form of Pyrrha’s sash, to show he still has a close bond with her, even after her untimely death. Or how Ren and Nora both wear pink, idk if that counts, but I think it does dang it. Anyhow, I think this is possibly a cute little way of showing how Oscar has grown stronger feelings for Ruby, add onto it she was the first one too comment positively on his new combat gear, saying it looks good. Aswell it looks like the exact same shade of Red as her combat gear.

For the final point I’d like to mention this segment, is one that I will spoiler warning the whole post for because of the fact that it just really does mean alot for Oscar’s character. It’s that Oscar was the one to offer a hug to Ruby, not the other way around, when they met up again in Atlas. Ruby has been the one too offer a hug to everyone else but never really the one to get offered a hug, and Oscar has always been the one to recieve hugs from others but not offer them himself. So seeing Oscar offer a hug to Ruby and seeing his smile just seeing her again- my fucking heart y’all-

So I think CRWBY has been dropping small hints all along that Oscar would grow feelings for Ruby somewhere along the way. And he just now is starting to see those feelings as more than just close friends, but rather that he has a developing crush on Ruby.

Reason 4: It Isn’t Really One Sided

Though Ruby may not exactly feel the same way about Oscar that he does her and we don’t have as much evidence for her as we do for Oscar, we do have some small pieces of evidence here and there that suggest Ruby could possibly start feeling similar feelings for Oscar that he does for her.

The first thing I would like to point out is that Ruby seems to look out for Oscar in alot of ways, and she seems to keep an eye on him whenever they’re in a fight or whenever he is in any sort of danger. The first time this happened was during their sparring match where she was quick to call back to Oscar after she knocked him down, like she was asking if he was alright, and then again in the same sparring match when she rushed too his side when Ozpin handed back the controls and he seemed hurt and exhuasted, a clear look of worry across her face. She also kept her eye out for Oscar whenever Hazel went after him during the Volume 5 fight and was quick to let the others know that he needed help, which shows that she was worried for him during this fight despite the fact Ozpin was also there, she was worried for Oscar nonetheless. She was also the first one to ask Oscar if he was okay in Volume 6 when they saw him again, which was honestly adorable. She also kept her eye out for him during the Volume 7 Mantle fight, whenever he killed that sabyr and didn’t notice another jumping up to strike him from behind, she was quick to be the one to respond by shooting it and giving a nod and smile to Oscar, almost as if showing she was proud of Oscar in some ways for how far he’s come as a fighter over such a short time actually fighting, and also reassuring him that she had his back in this. It was also cute how in the first episode of this volume, she was the one who went out to go find Oscar, she was the one who reached out too him when they saw each other again, and she was clearly happy too even just see him again, she likely didn’t even know he was alive or even down in Mantle, but she was still going to go look for him. Then of course there was this past episode, where she noticed that Oscar was right beside Emerald and she immediately went to draw her weapon before Oscar stepped in to stop her, showing pretty much an identical expression and reaction to the one Oscar had whenever he noticed her get knocked down during the fight at Haven. Which, these just seem like really cute and sweet moments on Ruby’s part, how she kind of is always there looking out for Oscar whenever he is possibly in any sort of danger or is hurt in any way and she is actually there to help prevent it, like she’s protective of her farm hand Cinnamon Roll.

Another thing I’d like to mention is that she is a bit awkward around Oscar at times, sort of like he is around her. She seems to hug herself a bit whenever she is around him and it’s just the two of them together, as she did this both in Volume 5 and Volume 7, like she is a little bit nervous, and she gets a little gigglgy and awkward, making it seem like she has some part of her that does have some kind of awkward dorkish feelings toward Oscar, similar to how he can get kind of awkward and nervously flustered around her aswell, she’s just better at not showing it.

Like I said, there are less pieces of evidence for Ruby’s side of things than there are for Oscar, but she does seem to have a few hints here and there that she may at some point reciprocate the feelings he feels for her, just towards him.

Reason 5: Extra Little Details

These are just small things here and there honestly, just cute things about these two that could possibly hint at them being a possible thing in the future. Or maybe they’re just purely coincidental, who knows? I still pretty much just find them cute regardless, needless to say, this is my weakest of the five points. But I still wanted to mention these things cause they do contribute a little bit.

Oscar and Ruby’s main colors are complementary. This is a point that is extremely obvious to anyone who just knows well- anything about colors. Red and Green are complementary colors, and these two have the main colors of Red and Green. This is a bit of a weak point, but it’s still cute none the less and given how important colors are in RWBY, ya never know.

This next point is really pretty weak and honestly just for fun, but, their eyes do complement each other a bit. Light Green and Light Yellow are colors that complement Silver. Though this is probably unintentional, It’s just something cute I wanted to note.

There are other things that could be considered cute small pieces of evidence, like how Oscar has an Aunt and Ruby has an Uncle, or that Miles has defended RoseGarden saying that the ship is fine with the age difference stuff. But those things are pretty much well known by anyone else who ships RoseGarden and more than likely just to RWBY fans in General, so I’d feel a bit wrong putting them here and giving them too much attention. I did want to mention them but that’s about it. Anyways, onto the conclusion.

Conclusion

So in Conclusion, There are quite a few reasons that I ship RoseGarden, but hey, this is just my personal opinion. Honestly I’d love too hear anyone else’s opinions on the ship aswell! And if there are any reasons that you ship these two that I didn’t list here, feel free to tell me, I’d love too hear them! Just please be respectful in replies, after all, these are just ships.
