#diet culture sucks
Text
Ever since I started allowing myself to eat what I want, when I want, I’ve been so much happier. Had a cookie and a muffin for breakfast and a muffin and chicken for lunch.

yeah I've really gained a lot of weight lately... (faint sounds of gay approval) my belly's gotten really big and my chin is softer now.. (distant lesbian cheering) I have a lot of thick rolls and new stretch marks.. (dykes hootin and hollering) my clothes aren't fitting anymore either.. (thunderous lesbian applause)

god how the fuck do people go on diets, especially crash diets
i'm literally only forcing myself to be on a low-fat gluten-free diet out of medical necessity (the low-fat is temporary to prevent my gallbladder from sending me to the ER, the GF is permanent but due to a condition that makes me gluten intolerant) and it literally feels like a punishment, even though I know the worst of it is temporary and the rest is manageable otherwise with pleasant alternatives that might not be considered 'healthy' to people who do this shit on the regular to lose weight.
how fucked up on diet culture do you have to be to do this to yourself in an attempt to get a thinner body, especially when it doesn't even work 95% of the time? it's fucking miserable for me, how the fuck do they do it? i would ask how they do it without hating themselves but we already know the answer to that one. and like they can't even enjoy sugary or processed or 'unhealthy' food? how do you live like that?

I have this theory that 99.5% of people who drink diet soda don’t actually “prefer the taste of diet”, they just have diet culture deeply embedded into their brain and it’s second nature to choose the zero calorie option

"god why do I feel like I'm always eating, what the fuck"
> actually looks back on what I've eaten all day, tallies probable amount of calories with generous estimates in cases I'm less sure about
> 1300 total, with generous estimates (so closer to 1000 with more conservative estimates)ed

Something that I think a lot of people who write about Kevin having an ED don't know is that coming off a very strict diet will make you sick when you go back to eating normal food. Like, your body straight up forgets how to process sugar and fat for a while – it's more than a psychological reaction.
So yeah, while his insistance on avoiding certain foods before games are a combination of Actual Facts and Nest Paranoia, there could also be a real element of "Of course you can't have a burguer and fries before a game. That's gonna make you bloated and slow and nauseous for three days. What are you talking about Aaron what do you mean that's not normal"

Like a week ago I had a dream about Oreos and I've been craving them ever since and today I finally ate one and you know what? It was amazing. Screw everyone who says not to eat cookies or not to listen to your cravings, I'm very happy right now.

actually i will never forgive fatphobia and diet culture for taking away so many chances to connect with my parents. sharing food, eating from the same table, at the same time, is an ancient love language. it's the love language of my grandparents and their parents and their parents. but my parents were born into colonialism and western beauty standards and the fucking keto diet. not only has it fundamentally changed my family's relationship to food, it's taken so much joy away from them. especially my dad, who loves food so much that i consider my own love an inheritance: i didn't realize how much i missed eating with him until a few months ago when we both were at a ramen shop and he was finishing the whole bowl. it had been so long since i'd seen him start, let alone finish, a "bowl of carbs." this isn't even saying anything about how their food paranoia has created body image issues and EDs in my siblings and me. if we get started there we'll never stop. this is just saying: i missed eating together. i missed seeing them eat freely and be happy.

The hate campaign against bread is the stupidest thing ever, and even I am not immune. I made a delicious bread and even whilst mowing down on it between spoonfuls of carrot stew, I felt a frisson of doing something naughty. Eating a white bread I baked myself in my own dang kitchen with my own dang breadmaker. (King Arthur Flour has a recipe for English Muffin bread, and it is in fact delicious. Not really like an English Muffin, but delicious.)
How fucked up that a major staple crop got demonized.
But it gets even worse than that, because I keep seeing tiktoks where people are arguing that carrots, apples, and grapes are too full of sugar to be healthful. So I suppose my vegetarian carrot stew, laden as it is not only with carrot, but is also sinful.
Diet culture is so corrosive, antiscientific, fatphobic, and awful. It needs to end yesterday.

I sometimes feel bad for skinny people bcs they'll gain a bit of weight (often via natural weight fluctuation) and immediately have a system failure and thirty two identity crises and then start weeping instead of considering their relationship to fatness and the implications of being terrified to no longer be skinny like. this your first rodeo bud?

I saw something that said the more westernized the diet of other countries the worse their nutrition score was getting which honestly tracks. Today i was trying to find a calculator for nutritional values like protiens/fat/vitamins and it kept giving me a calorie tracker???? Great that we are here
