ANNOUNCEMENT: Activity Check Results, Rule Changes
Hello everyone!
This is a seriously important announcement that affects everyone in the community, so we ask that you all give this a read. This post contains the July 15th activity check results, but also a massive rule change: we have completely edited how we handle activity on the HMMasterlist.
Our next activity check will be Saturday, August 5th.
Activity Check Results
New Arrivals:
Yuzuki
Passed:
Aden
Angela
Barrett
Chase
Ford
Gill
Iris
Klaus
Maya
Minori
Mist
Mistel
Odette
Tori
Wayne
Warned:
Ann
Chelsea
Frey
Gwen
Holly
Jamie
Lest
Molly
Rachel
Renee
Dropped and Available for Reservation
Harvest Goddess
Witch Princess
Yue
Characters listed under the “new arrivals” and “passed” sections are in good standing! Warned characters must pass the August 5th activity check or else they will be dropped.
Activity Rule Changes
Our current activity system was simply not working out for us: we thought that a month was too long for an activity check period, eight posts were too much if we lessened the time period, and that the warning check system had to go.
We have made the decision to switch to a three week activity period. All current members — plus members who join up to a week before the next scheduled activity check — are responsible for four posts (of at least four sentences in length) in this three week period. New arrivals who join a week before the check are only responsible for two posts, and anyone who joins the day before/the day of an activity check will receive a faux pass.
We are completely scrapping the warning check system. Before, you would have to fail an activity check for a month-long activity period, and then fail a warning check two weeks later to be removed from the HMMasterlist. To be dropped after these rule changes, you must fail two consecutive three week long activity periods to be dropped from the masterlist. Same amount of time, but just a little different!
If a character does not make the four posts required to pass the activity check, they receive an activity warning (this is not the same thing as the warning one would receive for OoC issues, like being rude to another member.) If a character with an activity warning does not pass the activity check following the check where they received their activity warning, they will be removed from the HMMasterlist immediately.
Example: Molly passes activity check #1 by making 4 posts. Molly does not meet the 4 post minimum for activity check #2 and therefore fails. Molly is given an activity warning and must pass the next activity check by making 4 posts. Molly makes 4 posts before check #3 and therefore is in good standing. However, if Molly does not make 4 posts prior to activity check #3, Molly is immediately dropped from the community and available for reservation.
If your character is dropped from the HMMasterlist following an activity check, you may reserve them again immediately afterwards. However, if you are dropped, re-reserve your character, and then fail the next activity check: you must wait 24 hours to re-reserve. In both scenarios, it is possible for someone else to get a reservation in for the dropped character before you get to reserve them again. We want to be fair to everyone, but we hope that the risk of losing your character is enough incentive to remain active.
To accommodate the new activity period length, we’ve also changed the length of our semi-hiatus status. A semi-hiatus will now last for three weeks; a hiatus will still last for six.
We have not changed the wording of the rule that states you cannot request a hiatus until passing your first activity check; it just now means you can request a hiatus a week sooner that you would have been able to otherwise.
Other Rule Changes
We’ve lightly tweaked the wording of some of the rules. Most of these are related to the above rule changes (like if a rule said “eight posts” it now says “four posts”, most likely.) There was only one rule that was changed that was not related to the activity rule changes above. As we use a password system for reservations, we decided to edit the rule that states “if you wish to remain private, indicate this in your reservation message”, as we do not answer any reservation asks publicly unless they are from roleplaying blogs already a part of HMMasterlist. We have included a disclaimer stating that due to our password system, all reservations are kept private.
We have, however, added some rules.
We have implemented a rule requesting that characters make a simple text post tagged with “hmml:activity check” after an activity check has taken place. This is just to make life easier for us mods when we check everyone’s archives for the next activity check. This post does not count as an OOC post.
We’ve decided to allow character development/roleplay starter/prompt memes every Monday. Here are some examples of what we are talking about. You can reblog them from elsewhere (other rp blogs, blogs dedicated specifically to these types of things) or make one from scratch for the community.
We ask that you only send meme asks to those characters who have reblogged/posted something asking for one. If you do not wish to partake in Meme Mondays, simply do not reblog/post any memes! You are in no way obligated to answer any unwanted asks you receive.
Meme posts will only count towards activity if they are at least four sentences long and lead to a closed roleplay (ie - a roleplay between two people). For example, if Jamie sends Molly a prompt, Molly’s response only counts for her activity if her response is over a paragraph in length. However, if Jamie cannot continue a roleplay from what Molly posted, it does not count for Molly’s activity: there is no actual roleplay between two people. If Jamie can respond, the thread that ensues would count for both Jamie and Molly’s activity, as long as each reply was a paragraph in length.
We intend for this to be a light-hearted ordeal to spur activity and character development, and we request that everyone is respectful of what they post onto the dashboard. There is certain content we require to be tagged and placed under a read more regardless — it’s fine to roleplay this content as long as you follow our rules — but use your better judgment to gauge what is and isn’t appropriate, or what could potentially really bother someone to see on their dash.
Meme Mondays will start this upcoming Monday, the 17th.
If you have any questions about the changes to our rules, do not hesitate to contact us! We will be happy to help in whatever way we can.
Survey
There will soon be a short survey — regarding ideas for events and any other suggestions members may have — posted on the OOC blog for everyone to fill out. This survey is completely anonymous! While it is not mandatory to fill one out, we would greatly appreciate if you all would take the time to submit one. Any feedback or idea, no matter how small or vague, is a great help to us. Thank you! ♥
Affiliates
Previously, our affiliate page stated that we only affiliated with Harvest Moon/Rune Factory/Story of Seasons blogs. This is no longer the case: we are accepting affiliate requests from any roleplaying community (regardless of genre, type, or fandom) as well as any Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons/Rune Factory blogs (fanblogs, fanart blogs, etc).
Blog Changelog (aka minor changes that don’t really matter)
We now have a link to our new arrivals tag in our “important” section on the right side of the blog’s homepage. This section also now contains the date of the next activity check.
I announced this previously, but we now also have a promo blog. Any advertising for our community will be posted from that blog, and it is not mandatory to follow.
Our credit page has also be updated to include anything used on hmmasterlistpromo; I’ve also included some links to things we did not have listed on there before.
Our tag page has been updated to include the hmml:activity check tag and the hmml:promo tag.

In His Garden (rough draft)
Here’s a little snippet of what I’ve been working on--there’s quite a bit more than this, but this is the most complete scene available thusfar, though even this isn’t finished and revised and may change drastically in content before I’m done.
Who: WoL!Aden, and the specter of an old friend When: Post-Innocence, pre-Tempest.  Major 5.0 spoilers.
Aden surfaced from the vision on his back, head pressed against the cool scored crystal of the floor.  It’d worked this time, Thancred’s ridiculous suggestion about how to shift when he felt a vision coming on in order to fall safely should he collapse with no one around--but his chest ached as it always did after a vision, and he could taste the plastery white bile in the back of his throat, and he convulsed once with a spike of white hot agony that pulled a pained gasp from him unbidden--that had nothing to do with the vision.  For a moment all Aden could do was lay on the floor focusing on his breathing, on trying to find a calm center.
But there was no calm center.  It’d been shot in the back while trying to save his life.  He rolled onto his side before the second surge of thick white liquid filled his mouth and managed to spit it out, choking and gasping as his stomach clenched around nothing.  He felt so hollow, empty and wrung out and he needed to… to…
Aden pushed himself to hands and knees with a grunt of effort, gritting his teeth against the pain.  You are in his garden.  And even if he wasn’t here, this was his sanctum.  The specter of G’raha lingered everywhere here, and that was a comfort.  Even absent he offered Aden shelter in the privacy to be weak for a while, the safety of the tower.  If he turned here, it would take some time to make his way out, and Lyna would surely rouse the guard before he could….
He shook his head hard, and looked up, gaze darting frantically.  There had to be something in here he could use as a distraction--a book with a dark leather binding caught his eye, and Aden carefully pushed himself to his feet, made his way over to it.  Heavensward, it said.  Edmont’s memoirs.  He knew about them, even if he hadn’t seen a published copy yet, and put the book aside for what lay beneath--a little gray box, smartly folded, and full of yellowed letters that’d been treated with an alchemical substance to preserve them.  Dearest Paplymo--he put the box down, not reading any further.  He didn’t need to know Lyse’s innermost thoughts, had no right to pry into the grieving over her dearest friend.  Another box, this one full of alchemically treated newspaper clippings: articles about the theater troupe in Kugane and their forays into Rabanastre.  A serialized report about the war in Ala Mhigo.  A sketch of him talking to Raubahn in Castrum Oriens, done in a hasty style that made their conversation seem urgent.  Another from the rather ill-fated day of the first council meeting in Ala Mhigo--the only one he’d agreed to stand for, and others followed captured by quick hands he hadn’t noticed, all clipped from newspapers--and some he was certain had not yet been made.  There was a copy of a comic in the Doman fashion that seemed to bear a stylized likeness of him on the cover--he definitely hadn’t been asked about that, and would have to quiz Hancock when next he saw the man--and one of those thrice-damned books that’d beaten him home from the Steppes about a mysterious and powerful foreign warrior’s less than family friendly (and entirely fictional) misadventures. He put the box down, unable to process it all, and saw a familiar old book tucked away--his favorite travelogue, one written by a dragoon scouting in the hinterlands some decades prior, and one he hadn’t found a new copy of.  He opened it carefully, found each individual page had been treated with that same alchemical preservative, and on the inside cover in faded ink:
Sweet dreams, you heroic moron.  I’ll see you on the morrow.  -A.D.
It’d been a joke, something to defuse the terrible tension of knowing G’raha would shut those doors behind him, of the knowledge that he’d never see the man again--one of the few people who’d treated him like a man rather than a weapon at the time, and another step towards convincing him he could keep nothing and no one of value.  He put the book down, staring dumbfounded at the pile of ephemera.  Of course G’raha had needed to do research--to find out when to summon him from--he’d seen that, hadn’t he, in that strange dream the Echo had visited upon him?  As his eyes unfocused, overwhelmed by all this stuff, something small and dark tucked away beneath everything caught his attention, and Aden carefully moved the books and boxes of loose papers aside.  A very small, plain wooden box, no bigger than his palm, and when he opened it his heart stopped.
Inside sat a ring, dark as drachenmail and engraved with twining branches, a small sapphire and small diamond embedded side by side.  Aden choked, and it had nothing to do with the light.  He’d lost it in Rhalgr’s Reach, the first time he fought Zenos, and thought it gone for good.  But somewhere in the future someone had found his engagement ring, and somehow G’raha knew it for what it was. He slipped it onto his finger unconsciously, ran his thumb over the cool metal in what had once been a reassuring gesture.  It still worked.
Aden collapsed heavily into the only chair not piled with books and stared at the room.  You are in his garden.  The very center of it, perhaps, the seat of a hundred-year obsession with saving his life.  How much had G’raha done for these people, and how much for him?  Who had he thought of when he bound himself to the tower and ruined his flesh in exchange for enough time?  Had he thought then, I’ll see you on the morrow?  Aden couldn’t countenance that level of dedication, even faced with all the proof of it.  They had known each other for a matter of weeks while exploring the tower, and yet…
Five years ago it would've unnerved him, such all-consuming dedication. Two years ago it would have angered him, such an invasion of privacy.  Scarce  months, and it would have terrified him, with Zenos' obsession still fresh in his mind.  Yet now all he felt was a melancholic sorrow, a different kind of hollowness next to the gnawing ache of the light.
The Exarch had clearly faced a world without Aden's lasting mark and denied it. He had given everything of himself to secure a new future, a happier one, and though he had meant to die for it first he had lived for it.  He had surrendered himself wholly to Aden with zealous conviction, even with Aden two centuries dead and gone.
And Aden found he could do nothing less.  Despite the obfuscation and their terrible circumstances, the Exarch had offered him the time and peace to begin healing from--everything, and in every word and deed proven he was not so alone as he’d thought all these years.  Even if it were too late to save G'raha, he would ensure the man's faith had not been misplaced.  He swallowed back white bile, and slowly stood from the chair, rubbing his thumb against the cool metal of the ring.
No, that would not be enough. His hands clenched into loose fists, the ring heavy against his skin.  I will not lose this one.

Looking for RP--Aden Dellebecque
Tumblr media
In-game: Aden Dellebecque Alias: Aden Aubeaux Race: Miqo’te Seeker of the Sun (X tribe/C tribe) Profession: dragoon, scout/surveyor, hunter
History
Of the Sky
Tumblr media
They came many generations ago, sisters and cousins, and the Tias and Keeper men they had met along the way, or if not the men then heavy with the children the wandering men had left them with.  Desperate to break out of their tribal life, full of youthful rage against their lot in life as mothers and hunters and little else, they struck out to find a new way. And find it they did--nothing could be more different than Ishgard.  They set about learning a new way, building a new life, one with dreams of comfort and riches rather than long hunts and far horizons, and even taking on new names: the Aubeaux family, one branch called themselves. In their children’s children no tribal outcast lingered: patriots born, through and through, and obsessed with the social climb as many of low status in Ishgard must become.  And one cage was fully traded for another.
Yet you may take the miqo’te out of the tribe, but you cannot beat the tribe out of him.  Daughters were raised in grace and manners, to catch eyes with their tamed exoticism and curry favor with silver tongues.  Sons had too much wandering blood, too much of the drive to fight for supremacy--which made them perfect candidates to go to war, to seek glory or knighthood in deed.  Sons die young in the Aubeaux family, ground up in the bloody crucible of endless war, and daughters inherit the legacy.
And Aden’s father might have too, if not for a wandering woman of the C tribe, a thief and ne’er-do-well who had been a mercenary for many years before finding employ on some secret errand in Ishgard.  What became of her remains a mystery, but her lover raised their son alone for a few years until he sent him away and disappeared himself.
Serenity
Tumblr media
When someone delivered a young child to Nadine Dellebecque and Arild Brewster's farm in the Black Shroud, they knew the worst had befallen a dear friend from their mercenary days. Aden, a letter said his name was, and they took him in and raised him as their own.
Aden had a good life with his adoptive mothers, growing up safe and loved. But he paid too much mind to tales of their time as adventurers, and to Arild's beloved travelogues. He took a little too keenly to Nadine's self defense lessons. He remembered the gleam of his father's lance, even if he insisted he didn’t--he’d seen their disapproving looks when they caught him jumping from the hayloft with a pitchfork, and abandonment had made a naturally quiet, thoughtful child reticent.
But Aden hadn’t forgotten.  He grew up obsessed, asking at every opportunity when his mothers might let him join the lancers guild--because this was all that was left to him.  In pursuing the spear he could be with the father who had sent him away, in spirit if nothing else. Finally he proved a danger to himself if they denied him any longer, and Aden went to Gridania to pursue his heart’s desire.
From the Sky
Tumblr media
In his time with the lancers guild Aden caught the eye of a semi-retired dragoon, Flynt Knoltross, who saw in him a shadow of his younger self and perhaps a chance to make things right.  He saw too a familiar face, finally putting truth to the secret Aden had carried for years--his father had been a dragoon, though he had disappeared before Flynt knew him well. Aden pursued his training at a punishing pace, obsession merely growing when the lance offered him a sense of purpose and belonging, a more tangible connection to the place of his birth.  Despite the prejudices of his countrymen Aden meant to prove his worth in the spear, never realizing he was repeating the cruel cycle his father had sent him away to break.
Prove himself he did during the end of the war--but politics forestalled his advancement proper to the ranks of the Knights Dragoon the day of.  He has instead been classified as a reservist, and done everything from scouting and surveying in dangerous territory, to diplomacy and leading reconnaissance teams during the Alliance offensive in Gyr Abania.
Hooks
Must Love Chocobos
Tumblr media
Aden grew up on a chocobo farm, and as such he’s an experienced rider and an expert in caring for them.  He loves chocobos, especially his rather possessive and ornery destrier, Keva. He occasionally returns to the farm to help his mothers as they’re getting on in years, and can be found there at times.  Whenever Keva is stabled somewhere that the grooms don’t already know him, Aden takes care of Keva himself, and it’s another situation that might be easy to encounter him in.
Knives and Lanterns
Tumblr media
Aden is a member of the Wandering Tonberry hunt lodge, and when he’s not busy with his duties to Ishgard he’s often taking care of hunts for them or doing other work that needs doing.  He can be found in and around the lodge, or out in the field on hunts.  They’re his found family, and he’s very loyal.
Bookworm
Tumblr media
Aden is well-read and consumes books at a rapid pace around the rest of his activities.  The only time he slows down is when he’s in a bookshop or a library, and he’ll easily lose track of time.
The Wanderer
Tumblr media
Aden has wanderlust deep in his soul thanks to Arild’s travelogues, especially after an eye-opening moment on the Azim Steppe.  If there’s somewhere strange or wild to explore, he’ll be there.
For the Sky
Tumblr media
Aden spends most of his time in service to Ishgard, and those who interact with military elements--particularly with dragoons, military intelligence, or certain sorts of politicians--might have a reason to know him.  Being a miqo’te makes him an excellent scout in locations where someone being visibly Ishgardian might be a problem, but it also leaves him open to the prejudices of his countrymen and makes deploying him on any mission of high visibility a political act.  Those who have benefited from his service have set events in motion that will soon lead to his promotion into the position and title he should have had for years now, and potentially something truly far-flung and dangerous For the Sky….
But for now he remains a dragoon in everything but name, and on familiar shores.
OOC
Playtime: Weekday evenings and weekend days, schedule RP ahead of time (I don’t do walkup unless I’m at an event).  Eastern US time.
FC: Wandering Tonberry Trading Co.
Server: Balmung
Looking for: Friends, adventuring partners, fellow Ishgardians, chocobo fanciers, nerds, travelers, rivals, and enemies.
Tips: Aden is quiet, reserved, and usually very polite.  He’s awkward, anxious, and has trouble speaking to strangers (unless he’s working--but how he got that way is a story all its own).  Persistence pays off, though what lies beneath is not entirely like what you see on the surface--Aden is driven, passionate, and full of a long-held, slow-burning anger.  He’s philosophical and intellectual but a violent adrenaline junkie at the same time. He’s spent a lot of time living inside his own head, observing the outside world and thinking, and a lot of time with his head shoved in a book or alone in the wilderness.  He has abandonment issues and struggles with depression and social anxiety. Rather than a fanatic or obedient loyalist, Aden is a warrior-philosopher.  He’ll follow orders, sometimes without question, but he’ll seriously challenge his superiors when it’s appropriate to do so.  He has a reputation for thinking too much, but still getting the job done. Slice of life isn’t really my thing unless the character is already established as a friend or ally of Aden’s, in which case, sure! I am deeply uninterested in quick romance or uncomplicated relationships.  If reading over all of this calls to you in that regard rather than as a friend, contact, or rival, we can talk, but be warned that I have an extremely low tolerance level for bullshit, and Aden is a complicated person who is not here to play house, and will not tolerate someone who cannot keep up with him in the field--whether that be by force of arms or force of aether is irrelevant.  He’s grey-ace and homosexual/homoromantic.  However, people who are down to get punched in the face for making an advance are always welcome--it could be the start of a beautiful friendship! I’m also very busy IRL, hence being forced to schedule RP in advance.  I have a full time job that sometimes requires overtime, a loving partner I’ve been with for 15 years, a house to take care of, two D&D games, part-time work on a friend’s farm, a HUGE extended family, and am an avid outdoorsman.  There’s a lot to squeeze in there! If we start RPing, please be patient with me. I will do out of game RP on a rare case by case basis.  It used to be my bread and butter, but I’ve discovered as I get busier I’m too unreliable and forcing more realistic expectations on myself as a result.
Contact: Aden Dellebecque or Merrick Lockwood in game; Stormcalled#5187 on discord; or my ask box!
