Digimon Survive Week Day 7: Endings
Well, they did it. The OCs made it out alive. I thought this was a cute base and reminded me of the characters being in the kitchen at the school.
I found the base on Pinterest, but it did not say who the original creator was. If anyone knows, please let me know so I can credit them.

So you all remember the prompt letters for Takari week?

Genre: Angst/Suspense/Romance.
Synopsis: Takeru confesses to the others during an after school session about a girl he likes, but all of his attempts to tell her how he feels are going nowhere and he needs their advice. But can they get through the thousand masks of Takeru so he can finally admit the truth? Will he confess or will the efforts of the entire Digidestined Team be enough to lead to a conviction? Underneath Takeru's hat he smirks as a trial begins.

Day 1: Destiny/Favourite Digidestined
This is a repost of an old piece, but it fit perfectly with the first Digimon Adventure Week prompt. Look, I love all of the digidestined a lot, but Izzy has been my fave since I first watch the show when I was 9, <3
I want to do some new stuff for at least a couple of the other prompts, but it will probably be later on the month.

Digimon Tamers: Brave Tamer - Final Thoughts
Phew! If you're wondering why I've been quiet for a bit, it's because this game took me 3 weeks to beat. It was kind of grueling at times. It definitely assumes that you played the previous 3 (or 4 if Anode and Cathode count for 2) games and does NOT baby you at the start. It definitely wasn't my favorite game in the series, but the fact that it did away with the terrible old Jogress system earned it a lot of points in my book. There are still some Wonderswan games to play, but I think that's really it for Ryo games! Thank goodness :)
Notes:
Major downgrade from D1 Tamers visually! D1 was so colorful and exploring the world was actually interesting. Brave Tamer follows the Digimon World 2 strat of making every single dungeon pretty much identical and the hub world is bland as heck as well. You don't even need to travel to get to the dungeons you just walk up to the same hole every time. Lame.
Thank God this game lets digimon level up and evolve normally. It basically follows the Pokemon style of evolution. In previous games there were bullshit level caps unless you jogressed a zillion times. This game still has that dumb mechanic where your digimon devolves into a baby. I get that that happens in the show, but it felt pretty silly in the game. They get back to normal pretty quickly after a few battles.
Digimon recruitment is limited to borrowing digimon from digidestined from the various anime series. What an awkward concept. Ryo comes out of nowhere to save the day and then each partner digimon is like "See ya partner, I'm ditching you for Ryo!" I'm just imagining the characters that are left partner-less facing certain doom after Ryo leaves lol. Maybe it's one of those situations where they're only gone for a few minutes due to dimension hopping.
The card slash system (based on the Tamers universe of course) was interesting, but kind of annoying to figure out. After I got a handful of strong cards I couldn't be arsed to keep trying new jogress combos.
Speaking of taking the lazy route, I didn't use the majority of the digimon I recruited once LOL. It's more efficient to just stick with the same digimon for the whole game unless you want to spend a lot of time grinding, so that's what I did. I ended up with only mega-level digimon at the end which is frustrating because MegaloGrowmon and Taomon were at level 30! (They upgrade to mega at 31).
The bosses were strangely easy in this game (except for one that took me like 5 tries). What made it hard were the frickin' labyrinthine dungeons (the last one is TIMED! Evil). I have a terrible sense of direction IRL and in video games so the dungeons in this game were torture for me. You have to traverse up to 5 floors and sometimes there are so many dead ends and roadblocks that it takes what feels like an eternity. Also, there are random battles every 2 seconds that increase the suffering. In the later game I planned my route ahead of time by figuring out where the boss was on YouTube and mapping backwards from there. Here's a screenshot of me and my map in MS Paint:
Tumblr media
(By the way, I always play Wonderswan games in windowed mode or else they look wonky. This time, that really came in handy).
I had to use multiple guides to figure out some of this game because the most popular walkthrough wasn't very good. It barely gives you any instructions on getting through dungeons, which was what I really needed.
Most scandalous part of this game was when Millenniummon called Ryo his lover (koibito)? Whaaaaa...?
I didn't realize that this game is a prequel to Tamers so I kinda did things out of order, whoops! I didn't realize that Cyberdramon was supposed to be the outcome of a Monodramon/Millenniummon jogress. Makes me want to rewatch some bits of the anime...
There was so much dramatic build up for the final battle and then it was so easy? I didn't even need to use the 10 low-level healing items I stocked up on. Oh well, guess I was well prepared.
Of course there's a post-game where you can scan all the digimon you missed, but that just seems silly. They're not partners in this game, they're cards. If I can't a raise a digimon I don't really see the appeal in collecting them all. (I mean I guess I wouldn't see the appeal in raising them all either, but the cards seem like even more of a waste of time).
The Wonderswan games have always been my fave digimon games but this one felt simultaneously half-assed and overly complicated. I'd give it like a 5 or 6 out of 10. Let's call it a 5.5.

Digimon Adventure Week Day 1 - Favourite Digidestined
A little late to the game, but oh well. Here goes day 1.
So, I went with Tai and Izzy. I don't really dislike any of the Digidestined. Each do have their qualities they bring to the team. Some I like for their personality, some for their design. Like, I do like Mimi's design, but I am not the biggest fan of her character (especially that time she abused the Gekomon's hospitality). And each of the other children have some really low moments. But Tai and Izzy gave me the least moments where I was frustrated with them. And I think they also show the most growth during the show. I like Izzy's smarts, and I like how Tai truly has leadership qualities. And that without the annoying dumb but overpowered protagonist shenanigan going on as other series have. He can be smart too, actually, like when he wondered who send the rocks flying that time when Leomon and Ogremon attacked them and Devimon sent some boulders their way. And he also listens to the others' advice 95 percent of the time, not trying stubbornly to have his way no matter what. And Izzy... oh boy, how well he handled the news when he found out he was adopted. Other children might have reacted far worse. But no, Izzy goes on loving his parents just the same, nothing changing from before. And how understanding he is when they finally tell him. Major props, my boy.

@digimonadventureweek Day 1, March 1st - Destiny / Favourite Digidestined: Koushirou Izumi
I'm a little late to the party, as I had, for some reason, assumed the week would start on March 4th, but alas, here we go - I couldn't get any drawings done in time, but how else to display my love for the OG Digimon Adventure than with these beautiful dolls I could look at and squeeze 24/7?
Koushirou has been my favourite Digimon character ever since I had watched the series in German for the first time as a 9-year-old in the lovely year 2000. I may not have related to him as much back then, but as I kept returning to Digimon time and time again, I absolutely do right now: I adore him for being the natural problem solver of the team thanks to his thirst for knowledge and sense of curiosity, but also his overall kind and helpful nature; for trying his best and being trusted and valued by his friends and family, even if he doesn't catch on every single social cue out there; for being a guidance and mentor, for being persistent and ambitious. I love him a lot. 💜
On a side note, I technically could have used this edit to display my three favourite Adventure characters, but since I'm already in a photo-mood... Let's have my favourites-order from left to right! 💜🧡❤️🤍♥️💛💚💙

i make jokes we all make jokes about the Frontier gang, about them being feral kids that slept on dirt and barely ate for the first couple of weeks on their adventure, about how they barely had a break a minute to relax before they had to fight for their lives against enemies that were actively hunting for them near constantly and how most of the time their first reaction to a threat is to run head long towards it at max speed and volume.
but that’s really fucked up, right?
The other digidestined didn’t have it easy, but at least they got breaks. Long stretches where they didn’t know where the enemy was and the enemy didn’t know where they were. some digidestined got to go back home and sleep in their own beds and see their family. they had help, they weren’t the ones on the front lines breaking bones and getting burned and zapped and smashed against trees.
few of the main heroes in this series had perfect homes, but literally every person in the Frontier group has issues at home. their homes are dull or broken or cold or distant. Zoe doesn’t have any friends JP isolates himself with humor Takuya is longing for something meaningful Tommy is slowly starting to realize what growing up will take away from him and Koji’s brother broke his damn neck falling down stairs.
None of them have perfect lives back home, all of them have some sort of estrangement waiting for them back home, but when they get a glimpse of it they so desperately want to go back.
The world around them is beautiful and wonderous and dangerous and brutal and cruel and DYING. They hold in their hands the only things that could possibly save it and they keep failing, over and over to make progress and every time they think they’re pushing back an enemy a more powerful one shows up to kick them back down.
There is sadness back home and danger right here and no way out, so the only reaction these kids, these six grade kids, can think of is to push back with all their might. Sometimes that’s enough, most of the time it isn’t. But all they can do is push back harder and hope.
And that sounds exhausting.
I dunno man the Frontier kids make me sad, ya know?

I always see a ton of Pokemon AUs for Demon Slayer, but I never see any Digimon AUs! For the AU ask if you're still taking them
. okok iam Absolutely still taking these and ill do my best but anon this is a really funny ask because i. do have a mini digimon au. like its ridiculously self-indulgent and tiny but. getting this was like a kick in the shins (affectionate) WAHAHAHA
so!! i hope you dont mind if this is very blatantly biased, but its certainly a starting point! as well, i havent really interacted w/ digimon since watching the anime years ago + playing world dusk and championship a while ago, so i wont have as much knowledge to pick from as i would other things! with the disclaimers out of the way...!
...hey what if we isekai'd the tokitwins? (post-writing edit: this ended up over 2k words long. This Is A Warning.)
Tumblr media
so, you've been oh-so-luckily chosen to be digidestined and whisked away to an unfamiliar world where just about Everything wants to kill you, you have No way to contact your own world, and you have No idea how to get back. great! cool! excellent!
introducing our funny little guys of the week: yuichiro and muichiro tokito! just them for now, before i scope-creep myself to death. but, that aside, you can't be digidestined without a funny little digital partner of your own! so, introducing:
-Patamon, Muichiro's partner! an observant yet skittish little thing that never tends to stray far from its partner. it takes its job very seriously, oftentimes coming across as a bit fussy. even so, it is very easily overwhelmed and may need encouragement to press on. as well, it also tends to take things at face value more often than not, making it very earnest but Very gullible. -DemiDevimon, Yuichiro's partner! a mischeivous little thing that rarely seems to take things very seriously. its defiant and a bit self-centered, and honestly at times seems to genuinely only stick around the twins because theyre entertaining to mess with. it's here for a good time and Nothing Else. despite its yapping, it does occasionally let a bit of protectiveness slip through-- always fiercely sticking by them despite its nigh-constant complaints about how it wants to leave.
this ragtag group of four must make their way across the digital world to find a way back home-- and hopefully remain alive in the process. in such an unfamiliar and dangerous world, however, problems are sure to arise.
the twins, of course, stick together-- but more and more often, their desires and personalities begin to clash in ways that make it more difficult to progress. it's easy to keep your head low and follow along, but just how long can you really take that-- how long can you pretend it's okay? it's easy to keep a brave face, but there's only so much you can do with what you have-- and what you convince yourself that you don't. there's only so long you can stay in such a high-pressure environment before something begins to break.
throughout their journey, they'll discover more outlandish and mystifying places, meet more new faces, and uncover strange secrets-- what's the connection between their digimon partners? how did they get sent to the digital world in the first place? and most importantly: why does this world seem to already recognize them?
///
with that out of the way... time for the fiddly bits.
the twins have an arc with each other much alike the one they get in canon-- but pressed a bit further. the two learn to stand their ground, speak their mind-- and ultimately, learn to really, truly trust one another.
yui oftentimes takes the lead, and tends to do a better job keeping everything in order-- but... he's still just a kid. a kid that cares deeply for his brother, and would do anything to keep him safe. but in a world like this, there's not much that he Can do. so he plays the part as best he can-- even if it means that he has to make hard choices.
mui, on the other hand, wants desperately to be able to help-- he slowly starts getting bolder and more forward, away from that more shy personality he'd been known to have. of course it was more dangerous. of course they didn't know what would happen next. but he would never forgive himself if he just did Nothing.
at its core, the two begin to actually almost switch places through their arc-- mui becoming more active and yui more passive-- as they make their way forward and sort themselves (and each other) out.
and of course: their partners have a whole Thing(tm) going on too! with the twins And between each other.
mui+pata are like odd little peas in a pod, oftentimes found staring at something or other with their big ol owly eyes, going back and forth over this-and-that about it in a way that makes sense to nobody but them. pata knows more about the world and where they might be going, but mui is a bit of an emotional rock for it-- providing encouragement and talking it through any roadblocks it may have come across. theyre odd little enablers! at least, when pata isn't pulling mui's hair over the fact that theyre going the wrong way, they went the wrong way we have to go that way-- no, thats the wrong way too we-- were lost were lost oh no were lost what do we DO--
yui+dDevi are. a goddamn mess. dDevi loves messing with this kid, always talking at him like it knows better-- which it does, technically, but it doesnt have to say it like that, shut up. it talks like a shitty older brother as if it wasn't leagues smaller than him and shaped exactly like a kickball. (yui doesn't vocalize this. he is so very tempted to, though.) despite all the ribbing, yui is pretty much the only person it'll talk seriously with. obviously yui is rather frustrated with it at times, but he can tell it does genuinely mean well. mostly. they squabble, but they do keep each other from doing anything too stupid. and further than that: even if he doesn't say anything, yui can tell when there's something on its mind.
the digiduo are... odd, certainly. but, strangely, there seems to be some sort of tension between the two-- they... really dont seem to get along. pata is deeply distrustful of dDevi, noting its existence as an evil digimon. like, it's in the name! devimon! not to mention how often it leads them astray or messes with them just for kicks-- something's up and it's not sure what.
on the other hand, dDevi doesn't much like pata either. it's a stuck-up killjoy thats convinced it's always right when it can barely make any good calls. always hiding behind its whole spiel of "good" and "evil" like it's so trustworthy. it doesn't even know what it's talking about half the time! if it's going to lecture them, it should at the very least be right about it. get a reason to be upset other than "that ones clearly evil, look at it!"
and then... there's the memories. or rather, the lack thereof. both seem to remember parts of some grand legend that they no longer have the ability to recall the whole of. something important to their reason of being-- and the presence of the digidestined twins.
pata seems particularly insistent of it being a prophecy, a series of steps to follow that foretell what and who they should be. (something about it seems to stress them out particularly badly, though... what exactly is it that they're living up to? why doesn't it know?)
dDevi... pretends not to care, at least. but it recalls the legend too, and hearing the fragments of it seems to make it upset. it wants nothing to do with the legend, and just wants to do... anything else. (anything to get further away from that stupid story. it's not one to be shackled by expectations like that.)
and again, the twins seem to differ on what they make of the story. yui sides with pata, believing its their best bet to at the very least figuring out how to get home. mui, on the other hand, slowly begins to wonder what exactly the gaps in the legend could mean, and wants to find out what it truly is. it's hard to follow a broken path. after all, who's to say its really a path at all? which brings us to... a bit of a conflict.
///
after a particularly rough leg of the journey, things start to get... difficult. theyve had little to no luck learning much of Anything of the way forward-- and things are just getting harder and harder as they go. yui isn't sure how much more they can really take of this. they're starting to barely make it out of these situations alive, so... so maybe they're better off just accepting it. nothing's leading them anywhere, nothing is making sense-- they might as well just... find a place to hide and keep their heads low. live it out as best they can. (he isn't sure how much more they can take.)
mui, of course, protests-- there were so many more places they haven't looked through yet! there was no telling if they found something or not unless they went for it! it was always going to be hard-- they couldn't just give up and wait for the difficulty to find Them. (he can't stand the idea of just giving up after all that...)
the two begin bickering, and it gets... hard. pata starts experiencing some doubt, unsure of if they should really be pressing on into certain death-- they'd just had some ridiculously close calls, and maybe waiting it out would reveal something..? (the knowledge of the unfinished legend hangs above its head, and the thought of unravelling it... is starting to give them a bad feeling.) dDevi doesn't want to sit around and do nothing while waiting for death-- that's boring and pathetic. itd much rather do something with itself even if it's scary. (it needs to know the truth. why so many others know them, why it keeps getting such bitter stares... why? it's frustrating.)
and the bickering turns to arguing. after a few too many harsh words from both sides... they split up. mui heading off with dDevi to find out what was really going on, and yui with pata to... find somewhere safe. figure it out.
for yui and pata, it's... a bit of a long journey. the two rarely speak, mostly just quick words to keep each other alert and avoid attention. yui is mostly pushed forward by his stubbornness, but... it does bother him. it bothers him a lot. he's afraid, he's worried, and he doesn't know what to do. he wants to figure it out, he wants to have all the answers. but he doesn't, and it was stupid to think he ever couldve. legend or not-- prophecy or not, they were just kids. what could they really do? what were they supposed to do?
and as it turned out, pata was worried sick as well. it isnt until a quiet moment that yui catches pata crying-- and they finally talk. because pata hated this too. it hated feeling like it should be able to lead them, but being unable to because of the gaps in its knowledge. it hated giving up, because it knew they needed to do something, and it was letting them down by doing nothing. and most of all... it missed mui. it argued because it was afraid, but it knew this was no better. more than anything, it just wanted to help.
they both knew they couldn't keep going with this. if not for their own sakes, then for the others'.
team mui's progress is... equally difficult. it was already hard enough moving about with a halved party, but they also aren't with their bonded partners, so their Actual Useable FIrepower is much much more limited. the entire time, dDevi goes on and on insulting the other pair, insisting it was really about time this went and happened, and that their own pair was obviously right all along. mui stays quiet through much of this, but after a particularly cruel jab, mui snaps back.
because he knew it didn't really mean any of it. dDevi was smug and irritating, sure, but it was just about always a joke. it was never this mean about it... unless it was actually, personally upset. that was a lot of talk for someone who insisted it didn't care. and even if it were to deny it, mui wouldn't stand for someone saying the people he cared about weren't worth anything. of course they were afraid-- they all were. answers were never easy. it was why they were working so hard to begin with.
and dDevi was genuinely taken aback-- because it was always convinced that mui was the pushover of the group. but just like that, he'd managed to completely read its actions without so much as a word. and... he was right. it wasnt proud of what it said, but it had to stand by it. it just didnt know how else to justify itself-- how else to keep going. but... all of this-- everything had always been for each other, hadn't it? and they certainly wasn't going to stop there.
they just had to find a way to convince the others.
of course, nothing was ever easy. its the risk they knew they were taking, but... maybe a risk they weren't quite prepared for. wherever they go, together or not, some new threat will always find a way to rear its head. but between the two of them, there wasn't much they could do to fight back. and they full well wouldn't have been able to make it... had it not been for team yui showing up at a crucial moment, yuichiro putting himself directly in the line of danger to draw attention from mui-- giving him and pata a chance to actually fight back now that they were reunited.
it's a messy fight, but with all of them together-- and a newfound but concrete trust-- they manage to push through relatively unscathed-- if a bit battered on yui's end. after a few moments to make sure everyone was all right (and ironically, to scold each other over being so reckless,) they finally get the chance to talk. and... to apologize.
///
and now for more scattered notes before i end up writing another minific in a tumblr post.
the legend goes very similarly to a typical fairy tale-- a battle between forces of good and evil, and the champions of each. long ago, there was another pair of digidestined that stumbled across the digital world, and very quickly became unrivaled in power. one half, however, became corrupted by the allure of strength and jealousy, splitting both the digital world and their familial bond. as things came to a boiling point, their conflict brought unseen destruction to the digital world, each of the chosen digimon destroying each other in the battle. crushed and in denial (for varying different reasons,) the old digidestined simply... vanished, one day, never to be seen again. as for their chosen digimon, their data was wiped nearly clean, to be born anew for when they were needed again.
as a whole, it's a story of forging bonds, learning to trust, and breaking cycles of violence.
dDevi hates the idea of digivolving due to lingering memories of that past life. it refuses to interact with it at all, and commits itself to just having a good time and living a life it can enjoy. it doesn't want to become... that again.
pata remembers that betrayal and remembers something awful happening, but... something about having to distrust the other makes it deeply, deeply sad. it want to believe in the best in dDevi, but it also feels the pull of responsibility of having to live up to the legend. that was the only thing it felt it could trust.
the old digidestined are, of course, the tsugikuni twins. whether they show up again or not is still in the air-- yoriichi being pata's old partner and michikatsu being dDevi's.
i dont feel like digging through the digiwiki for another hour but id like to somehow integrate dDevi's original digivolution line being more in line w/ canon, going all in on the Hehoo Evil(tm) thing, but with yui, it follows a more neutral route, following its own desires rather than the course of what the story Expects of it.
SO !!! YEAH!!! DIGIMON AU!!!! i care about this a very normal amount, and if you read this far: thank you, and I Am So Sorry.

Digimon Adventure Week 2024 Day 1 and 3-Favorite Digidestined / Favorite Dynamic
For both of these prompts, my answer had to be these two.
Growing up, I always admired Tai. Seeing Tai grow as the de facto leader to a true leader while making a few mistakes along the way made me feel like I was going on the journey with him as I grew up. Also, he was one of my first anime crushes.
Kari was the first "surprise" digidestined that gets added to the main cast. While it's the norm for Digimon now, it totally blew my mind as a kid to see a new character being added. Mix it together with Gatomon and pink and I was sold.
As an older sibling myself, I resonated with Tai`s protectiveness over Kari. Their sibling dynamic is always just too adorable!

To Have and To Hold From This Day Forward: Chapter 1 - Falling For You
My first entry for Miyakari Autumn is here!!! Thank you so much to @sluggybasson107 and @digitalworldbound for putting this on, I have been SO excited!!! I'm starting with Day 2 but will be working on the other days next month once I've finished with some big priorities!
I have wanted to write this idea for a while and it all came to a head when I decided recently to make this entire fic based around a Digimon Emperor!Yolei and Gogglehead!Kari AU, and I'm so so so excited to share this first one with y'all because I am very happy with it, haha. I absolutely LOVE Miyakari and I'm glad I got hit by the Miyakari bug recently because these two girls are so wonderful and I love them with all my life. My daughters who are also wives.
Summary:
Kari Kamiya never expected to take over as the leader for a new group of Digidestined. She never expected that she would have to lead new and old friends into battle against another Digidestined that wants to take over the Digital World.
And she would have never in her wildest dreams expected to one day share a future and a life with her.
You can also find it on AO3 here!
---
No matter how much they did, how many spires they toppled, and how many Digimon they freed, the Digimon Emperor started right back up whenever they left the Digital World without fail. The fact that she didn’t need to worry about resting and could instead throw as many poor Digimon at them as she wanted without any concern simply caused anger to flare up in her chest even more as they approached a small mountainside village that had recently fallen under control of the Emperor.
TK flanked her and Davis covered the ground approach on Raidramon with Cody and Armadillomon in tow. She swallowed hard as they got closer, and snapped her goggles over her eyes. “TK, you go left, I’ll go right!” Kari shouted, trying her hardest to make sure she was heard over the harsh winds. She looked down and saw Raidramon coming up on the semi-fortified gate to the village, and knew that now was the time to strike. The Digimon in the village had them outnumbered, but with most of them being rookies and a handful of Centarumon backing them up, it seemed manageable. She didn’t want to fight them, but it was just until they could get the control spire down. They had been through much worse than this in the past few weeks, and they would free this village no matter what.
The crack of thunder screamed through the air as the wooden gate to the village shattered into splinters and Raidramon burst through. Cody and Armadillomon hopped off his back, and Cody wasted no time Armor Digivolving his partner into Digmon. So far, so good. There was no sign of the Control Spire, but there was also no sign of the Emperor.
“Rosetta Stone!”
“Star Shower!”
The two attacks launched towards a clumped up group of rookies and two Centarumon, the impact of thee stone slab against the ground stunning them before the stars broke the Dark Rings. She frantically looked around for the Control Spire, her eyes only catching thick forests and far off mountain peaks. As the sounds of Raidramon and Digmon shouting out their attacks rang in the air, Kari’s breathing started to speed up, the knowledge that Davis and Cody could get overwhelmed if they took too long leaving her on edge. There was a brief reflection of the sun’s harsh rays that glared against her goggles, and she pulled them up and shaded her eyes with her hand. Kari’s eyes widened as she saw just a hint of shiny black in the mountain range that she immediately recognized.
“She must have thought we wouldn’t be able to find it…” she mumbled to herself.
It was far out of the way and well hidden, and there was no way this wasn’t personally chosen by the Emperor to best maximize the space she controlled. Kari looked down at Davis and Cody.
“Hey! I found the Control Spire!” she shouted. Davis shot her a thumbs up and a grin.
“Kick its butt!” he shouted, “We’ll be fine down here!”
She hoped so.
Pegasusmon’s wings flapped as TK caught up to her.
“As soon as we knock that spire down, the Digimon in the village will be back to normal, let’s go,” Kari said, and Nefertimon sped off ahead.
“Hey, wait up!” TK shouted, and Pegasusmon flew after her, “Kari! Slow down!”
But no, she couldn’t slow down. She wanted to topple that tower as fast as possible, because these Digimon needed to be freed.
How could she be so cruel? To try and rule the Digital World with an iron fist without any care for the world or its inhabitants. How could she sleep at night? Kari could still barely believe she had her own partner.
How could she be so unlike the girl she met at school just a few weeks ago?
***
Even though she and the other DigiDestined had been working their butts off around the Digital World, gym class never seemed to get easier. Today they were running, and despite how she had managed to outrun a Unimon while being chased yesterday, this was somehow worse.
Kari managed to stick to the middle of the pack, and had been so focused on keeping a decent pace that she hadn’t noticed someone run up next to her. Their footsteps were in sync, and it was only once she finally noticed the extra noise that she turned her head, nearly letting out a yelp as a girl with lavender hair had seemed to pop out of nowhere. However, it didn’t take long to realize who it was: Yolei Inoue.
She was a year older than her, but Kari knew about her from all the positive things Izzy had to say about her from her involvement with the school’s computer club— especially about the fact that she was something of a whiz when it came to programming. He passed leadership on to her when he moved on to middle school, but still kept in touch with her frequently.
“All this running sucks, huh?” Kari asked between breaths. Maybe starting up a conversation would make the rest of the period go faster.
“Yeah, I hate it. I wish we could run inside or something, it’s getting too warm,” Yolei said, wiping a light sheen of sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand.
“You’re Kari Kamiya, right?” Yolei asked. Kari’s eyes widened as her eyes locked onto Yolei.
“Oh— yeah! How did you—”
“Your brother’s come into our store before. He’s talked about you a bunch,” she said, then nodded to the goggles that hung from Kari’s neck, “Plus I recognize your goggles.”
Kari looked down and laughed gently, “I guess they do make a statement.”
“They really do,” Yolei smiled. Kari suddenly felt flush, but shook her head. The heat must have been getting to her…
It was weird, but this was one of the first times in a while she really talked to another girl her age. Sure, Sora and Mimi were her friends, but the latter was in America and the former was busy with sports and school. She couldn’t exactly tag along with either of them that much, not when she was so busy in the Digital World.
At the same time, though, she felt a bit lost. Yolei was a little bit older than her, and she couldn’t help but feel out of her league. The gym teacher’s whistle rang through the air over at another track where the boys were running.
“I bet youre usually pretty busy with computer club, huh?” Kari finally asked as they rounded the track.
“Yeah, but the vice president’s been handling a lot for me since I’ve had a lot to take care of after school,” she said.
“Oh! Are you helping out with your family’s store?” she asked.
“Mhm.”
Things went quiet between them, and Kari focused on not falling behind.
“You’re friends with Cody, right? I see you hanging out with him and that other guy a lot,” Yolei finally said. Kari blinked.
“Oh, yeah, him and Davis. Or do you mean TK?” she asked. She hadn’t realized Yolei seemed to notice her that much, but it sort of made sense— she had recognized her by her goggles, after all.
“I meant the loud one with the dark, spiky hair, but I guess both,” Yolei said. Kari started to laugh, which turned into a wheeze with how out of breath she had been getting.
“Yeah, he’s kind of a character,” Kari said, still smiling. “Cody’s a great kid, too— how do you know him?”
“We’ve been neighbors for years.”
“Well if you ever want to hang out, I’m sure Cody would be happy to hang out with you, too,” Kari offered.
“I’ll have to see,” she said, her voice suddenly sounding clipped. Kari felt herself shrink a bit as she looked over at the other girl, suddenly feeling so much smaller than she already was.
Kari focused straight ahead, her face suddenly burning as she couldn’t help but feel embarrassed.
Thankfully, the teacher blew their whistle again, signaling the students to finish, and the two girls skidded to a stop simultaneously. Kari plopped down on the ground, taking some time to catch her breath, then Yolei stepped in front of her, casting a much needed shadow over her. Kari looked up, and Yolei offered her a hand. Kari took an extra moment to rest, then grabbed Yolei’s hand to get up.
“I’m sure we’ll see each other a lot more,” Yolei said with a smile on her face.
Kari felt the heat get to her again and her cheeks flushed. She needed to get some water to try and cool off…
“Y-Yeah… I hope so.”
***
Her breathing sped up as the memory rolled through her mind. Bile rose in her throat and she had to choke it down as anger flooded her. All she could focus on now was the black obelisk just ahead, and destroying it.
“Kari!”
TK’s shout registered too late, and as Kari looked over at him, she saw a blade of air shooting up at her from the edge of her peripheral vision.
“Nefertimon, watch—!”
Although Nefertimon started to move right, the attack still slammed into Nefertimon’s left wing, causing her to spin and Kari to fall off.
“Kariiiiiiiiii!”
TK’s scream was distant as she plummeted. She clenched her eyes shut out of sheer fear, feeling the wind whip against her body before it suddenly stopped. Before she suddenly stopped. Kari hesitantly opened her eyes and looked around, only to be met with a pair of big, round lenses.
“So you’ve finally fallen for me, huh?”
The Emperor.
She was holding her in a princess carry as she rode atop an Airdramon that was flying just above the canopy of the forest below. Kari flushed and glared at Yolei.
“Why did you catch me?” she asked harshly. The Digimon Emperor raised an eyebrow, then tilted her head and smiled.
“And let you fall?”
“It would get rid of a lot of your problems,” Kari spat. Yolei gasped in faux offense.
“But then I wouldn’t be able to see you, and I do so enjoy our meetings,” Yolei grinned.
Despite the intense wind and the harsh chill that came from it, Kari felt her face heat up intensely even as she shivered.
“I told you we’d see each other a lot more, and I intend on making sure that stays true. It’d be a shame if I lost out,” she added.
“So you’re doing this all just to… to see me more?” Kari asked, jaw dropped in disbelief.
Yolei cackled and shook her head, “Oh, I didn’t realize you had such an ego, Kamiya.”
“I-It’s not an ego…” Kari trailed off quietly.
It wasn’t lost on the brunette that she was still being held so gently by the Emperor. It was unnerving, and the more she thought about it the more her heart sped up.
“No, seeing you is just one of the many joys of it all,” she added
“Why are you doing all of this?” Kari asked. Despite how angry she was, her voice came out as little more than a weak, indignant squeak against her foe.
“I told you, because I truly do enjoy our time together, as rare as it is.”
That caused Kari’s flush to deepen and her brow to furrow, “N-Not that! I meant taking over the Digital World! Hurting all these innocent Digimon! Why would you want to do this!?” she shouted.
In an instant Yolei’s expression became impassive. She looked over her shoulder, seeing the small dot that was Pegasusmon’s attempt to approach the Control Spire and her minions. “You wouldn’t understand.”
“Then tell me so I can understand!” Kari begged.
Yolei scoffed, slowly turning to look back down at Kari, “No,” she said simply. Kari couldn’t stop herself from tearing up. But even that wasn’t enough to stir Yolei.
Her cape whipped in the wind which was the only sound around them.
“Even if I told you, would that change anything?” she finally asked.
“O-Of course it—”
“Of course it wouldn’t,” Yolei interrupted immediately, “We would still be enemies. You and your friends would still hate me. What would be the point?”
Kari was speechless, her face crestfallen as she looked up at the Emperor.
No, she wasn’t the Emperor… it felt like this was the best look at Yolei Inoue she had ever gotten. Her heart ached.
“If we were enemies you wouldn’t have caught me, or-or you would’ve dropped me already,” Kari said, her voice cracking.
“I already told you, I enjoy you too much to stop our little games of cat and mouse.”
That cool, confident aura came back in an instant, and it seemed impenetrable.
Maybe there was no way to get her to realize why this was all so horrible.
Maybe there was no getting through to her.
Maybe there wasn’t even someone to get through to.
Kari didn’t want to believe that there wasn’t a good side of Yolei somewhere. Somewhere, deep down, there just had to be. Even if the others thought otherwise, she couldn’t believe it was as simple as that.
Even if it was becoming harder and harder to think it, Kari still wanted to believe it with all of her heart.
There had to be good in Yolei Inoue.
“Cat’s Eye Beam!”
Two red hot lasers sailed right by Yolei, missing by only a few feet. Yolei clenched her jaw as she saw it from her peripheral vision.
“It’s a shame that our time together is up again,” she sighed, not wistful or playful, but genuine.
“Kari!”
Before Kari could say anything, TK, Pegasusmon, and Nefertimon started to approach, flanking Airdramon on both sides.
“Put her down right now!” Nefertimon shouted.
“You’re not getting away with her!” TK followed up.
The look on Yolei’s face was… smug. Confident.
Like she knew she would be able to get away with her.
Kari’s stomach churned again.
“Well, my dear,” Yolei started, “I guess it’s time to say goodbye yet again.”
Nefertimon sped up, now flying next to Airdramon.
“You know, Takaishi, if you try and shoot me down, she’ll go, too! Be careful!” she taunted, laughing after. Kari could practically feel TK’s anger despite the distance.
Yolei let her down gently, and Kari looked at her with sad eyes, before she took a breath and jumped. Nefertimon managed to maneuver herself for Kari to land on her in time.
“Silver Blaze!”
Pegasusmon fired an emerald beam from his forehead directly at Airdramon, but it zoomed up, dodging just in the nick of time. TK and Pegasusmon stopped next to Kari and Nefertimon, watching as Aidramon twisted in the air to face them. Yolei looked down at them.
“It was fun, but I really must be going. I have big plans to work on,” she said, that playful tone seeping back into her voice. She then brought her hand to her mouth and blew a kiss to Kari in an exaggerated manner, then waved with her fingers.
“Goodbye, my darling and your merry band of fools! I can’t wait to square off again! Ohohohohoho!”
Kari was still, quiet, trying to keep a stony expression but unable to hide the way her face was becoming redder by the moment. TK’s knuckles were turning white with how hard he was clenching his hands.
“Blue Thunder!”
Another attack shot up, this time from the ground, as a large ball of lightning sped towards Airdramon. Airdramon flapped its wings, causing the attack to dissipate, and the harsh gust nearly caused Nefertimon and Pegasusmon to spin away.
Without another word, Yolei flew away, still standing on Airdramon’s head. Nefertimon and Pegasusmon slowly landed, and Kari offered a weak smile to Davis and Cody.
“I’m so sorry I went off ahead without you all,” she said sheepishly, “I saw the Control Spire and I thought if I could take it down, then we could be done.” Once again she got ahead of herself and was more focused on finishing the job than doing it safely.
Tai wouldn’t have done that. Even if her brother could be rash, the safety of the group under his watch was always paramount. She was barely treading water in comparison.
“Kari, it’s ok. You don’t have to apologize, we came out of it ok,” TK said, offering her a lopsided smile. That smile didn’t offer her much reprieve in those moments, though.
“Even though TK is right, it’s important that we’re more careful next time,” Cody said. She knew Cody didn’t mean to lecture her, it was just a reminder of her mistake. A mistake that was so obvious in hindsight, but her tunnel vision left her so dead set on the immediate victory that seemed just in reach.
She wished she could just set all that guilt aside, but it was going to stay with her for a long time, she knew it. Even if they took down the Control Spire and helped the village, it could’ve gone so wrong. Someone could’ve gotten hurt.
“Where does that stupid Digimon Emperor get off trying to kidnap you, anyways!? Ugh, she’s the worst,” Davis huffed. He folded his arms and pouted, now glaring up at the sky
“She wasn’t always like this…” Cody mumbled, “I wonder what caused her to change… or if she was always like this.”
Kari looked up at the sky, holding her hand up to her heart. Yolei was long gone by now, probably planning some new way to ambush them. She was starting to add more forces to major areas she wanted to hold onto, and they’d have to push hard to try and free those sections from her control. If Yolei was able to separate her from the group, then those excursions would probably be doomed in an instant. There was going to be a lot of planning and preparation in the upcoming days…
A hand on her shoulder caused her to jump in place. Her eyes went wide and she started to pant.
“Whoa! I’m sorry, you were zoned out there, so I wanted to let you know we were thinking about heading back,” TK said.
Kari let out a long, relieved exhale, “Yeah… yeah that’s a good idea. Sorry, just a lot on my mind.”
“Let’s head back then! We deserve to relax!” Davis whooped.
But even still, Kari couldn’t tear her eyes away from the horizon, where the Digimon Emperor lay in wait somewhere out there.
She could feel her heart speed up again, as a rush of butterflies started to swarm in her stomach. So many of the things that had happened during this trip to the Digital World slotted together perfectly. Neurons lit up, causing a light bulb to shine as bright as the sun in her brain.
“…Oh no.”

Digidestined ranked from most likely to bite someone to least likely.
Daisuke (an unsurprising top candidate)
Iori (a surprising but also not surprising #2 (Just because he can kick your ass through other means, does not mean he won't choose the most embarrassing option for you))
Mimi (She and Taichi fight every week to see who takes 3rd)
Taichi (Lost this week, and most weeks)
Takeru (useful for the element of surprise)
Miyako (believes she is more dignified than that....She is not)
Hikari (They never suspect the quiet ones)
Yamato (He's more bark than bite)
Ken (Only after running out of options, is this an idea)
Koushirou (He doesn't know where you've been, ew)
Sora (She can win fights without biting people, unlike the rest of them)
Jou (Simply because no one is in reach, if people weren't short he would be higher)

For this week's Takao Tuesday, I was planning to post a headcanon compilation but when I started writing it turned more into a Hogwarts headcanon compilation 🫣 So bear with me please, I will share more varied content next week 🤣
He's in Gryffindor of course and a Chaser for the Quidditch Team. In his Seventh Year, he gets chosen as the Captain.
He has a pet snowy owl D'art, named after his favourite character from a muggle book he came across when he was a kid.
His strongest subjects are Transfiguration and Defence Against the Dark Arts BUT his favourite subject is Care of Magical Creatures and he's obviously very interested in Dragons. Other creatures he's able to become friends with over the years are Thestrals and Hippogriffs.
His family is a well-known one in the Wizarding world, their legacy going back to almost when Hogwarts was founded, with his father being a renowned expert on Ancient Runes having written many books on it, some of which are even taught at Hogwarts. Most people at school expect Tyson to follow in his footsteps too which he's not fond of.
He values house loyalty to a great extent and is on first name basis with every Gryffindor kid, no matter the year.
His wand is made up of Ash wood with Dragon Heartstring as its core. It's considered a peculiar combination since Ash wands value its true owner whereas the core, Dragon Heartstring can easily commit to another owner if need be. This makes it a very tricky wand to use but Tyson is able to manage the wand's quirks well.
His patronus is A DRAGON obviously (were you really expecting me to drop the dragon symbolism lol) because "They are quick to lead and do not back down from a challenge. Dragons are strong in their convictions and will stand for what they believe is right. Those with a dragon for a Patronus are sure to be fierce fighters." This just screams Tyson, do not @ me.
He gets into detention pretty often and is usually the main culprit behind his house losing points, but he makes up for it by performing well during Quidditch matches which gets him a sort of free pass from his housemates.
The kitchen house elves hate him because he can actually inhale food faster than they can make it appear on the table, and Tyson likes to challenge them to silly contests to win a lot of free food for parties at the Gryffindor dorm.
So in conclusion, my Hogwarts Tyson is the guy EVERYONE wants to be friends with, when he walks into a room he immediately has everyone's attention, he's the moment and you can't take your eyes off him even if you tried 🫶🏻

this will be my first @campdigimonth!
i'm keeping my goals simple because my work schedule makes things difficult to tie them down to specific goalposts (really more like the emotional load from my work lol). i work better with an end in mind but the middle steps being up to the flow-- luckily, with @surviveweek being at the end of january, the timing is perfect! i don't know if i will have something for every day of survive week, but my first goal is to have at least two pieces to share for survive week by the end of the month!
my other vague goal is that i would like to make progress in my set of appmon sketches that i have had sitting in my folders. i had originally planned them for haru's birthday, but got distracted by a different piece for that. generally if i can get one partner pair completely done, then it greatly increases my motivation to complete the rest in a timely manner, so i have a goal to get one of those appmon partner pair drawings done before the end of january!! :)
i am currently drawing daily, but oftentimes i'm so worn out that it's something standalone rather than a part of a longer project. here's hoping these specific goals help me get some bigger projects done!! :D
bonus goal: get to the coloring stage of at least one of my 2 digidestined!dqb2 survive style drawings :D
good luck everyone!! 😤
