Happy Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day!

Did you know that August 21 is Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day?  

Here is an AO3 collection of amazing digimon fics from members of the camp digimonth server!  The fics are current (written and/or updated in the year 2022)!

Anime fandom content that would be nice to have on Fanlore

Ideally this will be content about the fandom specifically, not just objective facts about the series that can be found on a fan wiki or the Shipping Wiki. This can be anything from linking meta or significant fanworks, or adding pages about old websites/LJ communities that you remember! Something to remember is that Japanese fans do not like having their individual fanworks reposted or linked to directly, so rather than linking to those or to doujinshi, I’ve been linking to the general series tag on sites like Pixiv or Tegaki.

(I will try to get stubs up with the bones of the section titles at some point so people don't have to struggle through figuring out the formatting! But you can make a new page by searching the title you want to use in the search box, then clicking the red link that asks you to create the page.)

The following things need a lot of work:

Sports Anime fandom as a whole (category page for Sports Anime here) Oofuri Slam Dunk

Info on 90s and 00s Sailor Moon, Dragonball, and Digimon fandom Gacha game fandoms in general

Things with no pages/info at all that are important to anime/bl fandom:

Ace of the Diamond Yowamushi Pedal Captain Tsubasa Legend of the Galactic Heroes

People who can expand sections in the Gankutsuou entry (has an extensive list of doujinshi but needs more info about fandom in general), the Tiger & Bunny entry

Anyone willing to work on Prince of Tennis info (ships, representative fanworks expanding LJ community info, etc.)

People who know anything about fandoms for gag manga with huge presence in JP but not in English SUCH AS: Nintama, Gag Manga Biyori, Bo-bobo, etc.

I will admit I’m too self-conscious to post a pic of myself, and I have yet to be skilled to try my hand at a self-portrait... so here’s the character from One Piece that I am most like (especially when I get a compliment). ;)

I’m not familiar with the ‘final box’ evolutions, but as you can see, filling this out made me realize that I really like Veemon’s evolution lines, outside of the obvious Biyomon/Piyomon one xD

I almost thought I was going to be more like Hikari, but lo and behold. I don’t think it’s obvious enough who my favorite DigiGirl is. <3

Mind you, I’ve been doing this off of Paint so thank you for bearing with the quality of these. This is my train wreck on ships (I’m shipwrecked) but this should tell you that I am a multishipper. The colors simply portray my leanings (for example, romantic over friendship) but I have nothing against the other choices!

I also realized that there was a template including the 02 kids by the time I scribbled all the way through this one. For that, I can tell you DaiKari, DaiYako and KenYako!! are my romantic preferences. :)

A couple of fic Recs:

TaiYama Week - By @taichixyamato - Not necessarily a specific Digimon fanfic, but tagging for their TaiYama Week. You can find a great amount of submissions whether it’s fanart or fanfic for the Taichi Kamiya and Yamato Ishida pairing whether you’re shipping them or just seeing them as friends.

Rule 14 - By @missjanuarylily - I’m not a huge fan of NCIS, but this crossover between Criminal Minds blends so flawlessly together. I’ve always liked the whole “OC is somehow related to a main character” fics and OC Emma Gibbs is a great addition to these two fandoms. Shy, flirty, sometimes clumsy, perceptive, and funny, she and Dr. Spencer Reid are a cute pair to watch. (Can also be found on AO3).

Radiantly Wrong - by @hennigshelleys‘s sister “GreenBat23″ - A Riverdale fanfic following Archie’s twin sister, OC Alexandra Andrews. The writing in this fic flows well, and Alex is a great addition to the “town with pep.” I love seeing not only Archie’s interactions with Alex, but seeing how Alex’s point of view makes Riverdale feel a little bit bigger.

[Smeared_Mascara is online] - by @curious-fools-howl-to-the-moon - I don’t know a thing about Mr. Mercedes going into this story, but her OC, Delilah Stokes’s, faceclaim I recognized from Young and Hungry. After seeing the trailer, I checked out the trailer for the show it’s written about, and jumped right into this story and I am hooked. Delilah is sassy, and fun to read. And I just love the username “Smeared_Mascara”.

Any fic by @ceruleanmusings - Shameless plug of course. Whether you’re looking for Beyblade, Holes, Teen Wolf, Chronicles of Narnia, a Riverdale plot bunny, Harry Potter, or The Flash, check out her fanfics. All of her OCs for each fandom is well crafted and different from each other, yet fits flawlessly (or with flaws as the case may be for the character) into the world she builds. Taking little bits of information on characters and expanding them to create more dimensional roles and story lines for them leads to great reads.

Any fic by @knocking-down-hesitation - Second shameless plug. A fan of Legend of Korra, Sailor Moon, Facts of Life, or Victorious, then this is the fanfiction author for you. Amazing characterizations of your favorite canon characters in unique AUs and situations that will want you to keep reading more. (Fics can also be found on AO3).

Any fic by the second half of this blog: Riley of @purple-and-red-ribbons - Final shameless plug. Whatever fandom Riles writes in (and there’s a lot), she has incredible world building where it just makes sense that her OCs are there. Taking what occurs in canon and manipulating them and adding in original content pushes the boundaries of what occurred in canon, but expands the positive and negative traits of every character in every fandom she writes for. Fic Rec Day (Pt III) - Love Live! and Love Live! Sunshine!!

Today’s the third and last day of these recommendation lists. I actually quite enjoyed doing it, and I hope that you managed to get another fanfic or two to read.

With Pokémon and RWBY done, what other franchise would I be recommending fics for? Would it be Digimon? Inazuma Eleven? The answer is no. Aside from the fact that fics tend to be shipping-focused (and I don’t ship any in either), I never found the spark needed to start reading Digimon fics, and a lot of the higher-ups of IE are CharacterxReader fics (which shouldn’t be allowed on the site in the first place, but I digress). So what franchise am I recommending for this time?

Idol hell.

Not listed in any particular order.

Red Ribbon (by blaerofvalenwood). For those people who think that Love Live doesn’t have any angst in it, boy get ready to be surprised! This oneshot is, by far, the best angst fic that I have ever read on the site! I can’t say anything else in fear of spoiling the story (and, by extention, taking away its main appeal), but this is a fanfiction that is worth ALL of the praise! It contains Nicomaki, but… I still haven’t gotten over it, and I started reading this oneshot three days ago… ergh… it’s just sooooo good… if you like Angst fics then please give this oneshot a shot because it is absolutely amazing!

Under the Cherry Blossoms (by nikoxnii). For some reason, the concept of this story (a “perfect match finder” system incorporated in daily life) felt familiar… anyway, this is one of the most favorited Nicomaki stories on the site as of writing this, and for very good reason! Albeit, like a lot of other stories, this story also gravitated towards using the mainstream ships as side ships, the Nicomaki in this story is A+. Both girls were perfectly in-character at all times. It’s beautiful. And highly recommended to get your Nicomaki needs fulfilled.

You’ve got to be Kidding (by StrawberryBats). Yes, another Nicomaki story, and yes, another rather popular one at that. Doesn’t mean that it isn’t any good, though. Supernatural AU in a sense; I can’t say much more other than that or I will have said too much… it’s awesome, so check it out if you haven’t already! I think this story has the largest cast of named canon characters to appear in it (at least from the fics in this list), so perhaps that is something to look forward to when reading it?

Spilled Ink (by Siniscule). And what do we have here? Yet another Nicomaki story. It’s almost as if it’s my LL OTP or something… oh, wait… anyway, this story is much like that Strawberry Ice Cream story that I recommended yesterday in that all of the story is conveyed to the reader through diary entries. It’s a really neat writing style, and I really enjoyed it. Plus, it’s Nicomaki.

The Good Life (by aJUGGaMILK). A future/adult!AU involving everybody’s favorite mainstream ships as parents. The main pair is Nicomaki (surprise surprise) with Nozoeli being the main supporting pair. This story is just so adorable, and all the characters in it are adorable, too. It is, however, not yet completed, and kind of ended on a cliffhanger back in October of last year, so… here’s to hoping that it gets updated soon.

Modern Fairytale (by Athyra). Could this be a non-Nicomaki recommendation on the list? I think it is! Anyway, this YouRiko (or is it RikoYou? I dunno DX) oneshot is absolutely incredible. There aren’t a lot of stories of this ship on the site as of yet, but I’m glad that this one did not slip under my radar. It’s an AU, and only You and Riko appear in this oneshot from the group. It’s absolutely beautiful, and that ending? It was amazing!

Breaking Ice (by togekissed). And I’m wrapping up this list with this story right here. This. Story. Right. Here. This story is soooooo good. It’s a Nicomaki AU, it’s Angst, but maybe that is what made it as good as it is. As if the Final Live (more specifically, the performance of Bokutachi wa Hitotsu no Hikari) itself wasn’t sad enough, I came across this thing (on top of that Red Ribbons fic I listed at the start). Seriously, though, this story is really really good, and among my favorite oneshots that I have read so far by far.

That wraps up the three days of me recommending fanfictions. I enjoyed these past three days, and I hope that you did, too.

So!  If you saw this post, you’ll know that I’m hoping to make a page on my blog for digimon fanfiction recommendations gathered from the Tumblr digimon fandom.  That’s you, love!

The last time I tried to do this, I wasn’t able to gather many recs (big thanks to everyone who sent some!).  I thought that maybe clarifying what I’m looking for might help?

How to Add a Writer to the List (Adding yourself is encouraged!)
