This week I had the privilege of visiting the oldest federal library in the country! I got to see some really cool historical documents up close (a chronicle signed by Thomas Jefferson, a pamphlet written by Alexander Hamilton, & George Washington’s personal dictionary) and learn more about the library’s unique, global work. Who says field trips should end after K-12?!

Quote
Of course, it was good business for a diplomat to appear stupid, right up to the moment where he’d stolen your socks, but Lady Margolotta had met some of Ankh-Morpork’s finest and no one could act that well.

I have a profound doubt as to whether the adventure is, after all, worth the candle. Not because of the danger - I don't mind that; but I am beginning to wonder what profit I shall get out of it all … There are two ways of profitable travel in Arabia. One is the Arabia Deserta way, to live with the people, and to live like them for months and years … It's clear I can't take that way; the fact of my being a woman bars me from it. And the other is to ride swiftly through the country with your compass in hand, for the map's sake and for nothing else, I might be able to do that over a limited space of time, but I am not sure. Anyway, it's not what I'm doing now … I almost wish that something would happen - something exciting, a raid, or a battle! Yet that's not my job either. What do ineffective archaeologists want with battles! They would only serve to pass the time, and leave as little profit as before … it's a bore being a woman when you're in Arabia.
Gertrude Bell, letter written in 1914, Letters of Gertrude Bell (1929)
Born 155 years ago today on 14 July 1868, Gertrude Bell defied societal norms and shattered barriers as an English writer, traveler, political officer, administrator, and archaeologist. She was also the greatest woman mountaineer of her age. She was also the first woman to earn first class honours in modern history at Oxford.

Finally I've found some people to play DnD with! I really missed being a Paladin, even though I play a human one (my favorite would be Aasimar) I just love it so much! 🛡🗡
Paladin is such a complex class to play, has so many layers and possiblilities, he can be a healer, a tank, a warrior, he's usually the party's diplomat and moral compass. I really missed it! 🎲🐲

Napoleon’s instructions to Bourrienne:
“Do not wake me when you have good news to communicate. With such there is no hurry. But when you bring bad news, rouse me instantly, for then there is not a moment to lose.”

I wish we got an opprotunity to see Romulans and Cardassians interact more. The two most intrigue loving factions in the galaxy.
Like imagine a diplomatic conferance between the two.
-They'd spend a whole day arguing over the seating arrangements only to reveal it was a reverse pyschology.
-Each side would bring fake defectors in an effort to lure the other one into a trap, except some of the defectors aren't fake because dissident Romulans and Cardassians are still clever af.
-Each side simultaneously claims to have a Secret Alliance with the Klingons. Neither of them do.
- The Romulans are trying to rat out their counterparts to the Obsidian Order. The Cardassians are trying to rat out their counterparts to the Tal Shiar.
- The Romulans stage a false flag attack to make the Cardassians look bad and improve their negotating position. They fail but the Cardassians appriciate the effort so much it does in fact improve the Romulan position.
- They pause for a moment and agree on how annoying Starfleet is.
- The moment of unity is broken when they start arguing over whether Sisko or Picard is more annoying.
- The Cardassians come up with a zany scheme involving genetically altering a Romulan waiter and turning him into a sleeper agent.
- The Romulans ask how the occupation of Bajor is going.
- The Cardassians ask if any clones of humans have taken over the Senate again.
- Throughout this conferance there are 23 cases of poisoning, 10 mysterious stabbings, 5 not-so-mysterious stabbings, 3 people smothered with pillows, and one person killed with an exploding self-sealing stem bolt.
- The Conference ends with a Treaty. Both the Cardassians and Romulans intend to break the treaty within a week of it being signed.
- Everyone considers it a massive success. All of the diplomats say they've never had so much fun in their lives.
