[JP SPOILERS]
so Silvio’s route preview dropped in the jp app and it’s going to be a fucking shitshow lmaoooooo
expectations: Emma falls in love with Silvio without realizing who he is and discovering he’s Rio’s brother causes her (and the readers) heartbreak because he fell in love with the girl his brother loves
REALITY: Silvio knows Rio likes Emma, Emma finds out Silvio is Rio’s brother after falling in love with him, and Silvio reveals that he pursued Emma despite knowing about Rio and his feelings for Emma and actively stole her away because he wants to take what would otherwise be his brother’s
the cherry on top of this clusterfuck of a route is in the preview explicitly says Silvio used Emma as a weapon to hurt Rio (AND through the entire route preview Rio is begging Emma to stay away from Silvio because he’s going to cause trouble). so Silvio is LITERALLY the guy who seduces the girl his brother loves and gets into a relationship with her

bad news from the AWCP (Atlantic White Cedar Project): the smallest of cohort 1, Ursa Minor, is not doing well following repotting and separation from Ursa Major. It might be transplant shock or root damage or the multiple days of minimal sunlight but my littlest soldier is visibly drooping. Gemini 1 and 2 did so well after their transplant that I was hoping it would be fine for the other set of twins but Little Bear might not make it. I added some Osmocote fertilizer and gave her some extra water this morning and will monitor closely but I’m not optimistic. I only had 8 survive for year after maybe…25(?) sprouted so I really don’t want to lose a single sapling. Sigh.

Whats the sekrit history thing?
It's the thing Supreme Leader brings out in Tru Piss, when she reveals the "truth about the relics"
Professor... Do you know the true story behind the legend?
The Relics were created by the hands of mankind. Seiros collected them after killing the 10 Elites.
Seiros manipulated the people of the world and defeated the all-powerful King Nemesis.
Supreme Leader's not wrong here, even if manipulate is a bit of a strong word here, totes not used to exaggerate history.
The church maintains the false history that he was corrupted and turned evil. However, it was little more than a simple dispute.
Should the one leading the people of the world be someone with humanity or a creature that can merely masquerade as a human at will?
In the end, Seiros was victorious. The Immaculate One and her family then took control of Fódlan.
I know this because that knowledge is passed down from emperor to emperor.
And that is because the first emperor is the human who cooperated with Seiros, allowing humanity to be controlled in secret.
--> It's "Willy's sekrit history" because it apparently comes from Willy himself (knowledge passed from emperor to emperor) without any alterations due to the passage of time or to Emperor Proud who was pissed at the Church for reason thus distorted Willy's words, nope, not at all.
It's 100% legit, I'd say, as legit as the messages Sigurd receives in FE4 from Belhalla signed "King Azmur" who asks him to conquer Verdane and occupy Augstria.
More seriously, I've already poked holes in this thing, and while Supreme Leader seems to believe it, it is generally agreed that whatever Wilhelm passed down to his descendants was either edited by the mole people, or by said descendants who soured the truth as their relationship with the Church degraded (after the loss of Faerghus?)
But some people really want "Willy's sekrit history" to be 100% truer than milk chocolate, because Supreme Leader's words are always true thus she could never be mistaken + it basically calls Willy a race traitor who ultimately realised the error of his ways and hoped one of his descendants would correct his mistakes + it paints Rhea as "BaD" because she's part of a secret illuminati society who controls people behind the scenes, so Adrestia isn't the leading force on the continent invading and steamrolling over everyone else, but it's Adrestia fighting about an enemy that has plagued Fodlan for ages.

hello! first of all I love all that you do, its so helpful having something I can come back and refrence when needed. secondly I would like to ask for your help, I swear in the prologue book with Crowley in the library they used the same sound effect as Divuss whip/pointer and I swear the model of Crowley even in that moment was holding a whip but going back and trying to find it has been fruitless for me, am I going insane or was this something that maybe they took out in an update or was it not in the english verson? many thanks.
Hello hello!! Thank you so much, you are too kind! ♡
Tumblr media
I am not sure if he was ever physically holding a whip (he does not seem to have one in his sprites), but you are very right that there is a whip sound effect in that moment!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grim is bound and gagged by something in the game that the novel explains in more detail (below).
While the situation is vague on both EN and JP in the game, it is possibly moreso on EN because of untranslatable wordplay:
Tumblr media
After the whip-crack sound, Grim reacts as though he is in pain and Crowley says, "Consider it tough love."
And in Japanese the kanji used to express "tough love" is love (愛) and whip (鞭) (literally, "whip of love"), but it is just a form of expression and (usually) doesn't mean literal whipping is taking place.
We've never had an official, visual representation of Crowley with a whip (not in the game guide, manga or the game itself, though the novel may have solved the mystery), but this is not the only time "tough love" comes up:
Tumblr media
Later on in the prologue Grim refers to Crowley's "whip of love" binding him, using the katakana for "whip of love" rather than the kanji for "tough love," possibly because he only knows the attack by the name that Crowley used for it.
Tumblr media
Crowley repeats his, "It's tough love!" line again on JP, possibly for the wordplay.
While sometimes things happen in the novel that don't happen in the game at all (and vice verse), it can be useful as a reference, and the violence of the "tough love" scene is described as follows:
"A long, black cloth wraps around Grim, binding his limbs and torso in an instant. The fabric stretches and contracts, moving as if alive.
'What the…! What is this rope?'
'It's not a rope. It's my tough love.'
The masked man points the end of the staff he holds at Grim.
'You tried to use magic just now, didn't you? We cannot have you thrashing around in a cramped place like this.'
'If you're gonna take it this far--grr.'
'Tried to use magic again, did you? You may not.'
Now with his mouth covered as well as his body, Grim bounces around at their feet.
Every time the man waves his key-shaped staff, the wriggling cloth he refers to as 'tough love' tightens around Grim. It is not unlike a large snake devouring a frog." -Twisted Wonderland the First Novel
And something similar might be happening in the game! While "lashings of love" is great localization, it means that EN loses Grim's actual line of, "He's gonna bind us up," as if something similar happened to Grim in the game as what happened in the novel--he was tied up--but due to the limitations of the visual novel medium, we weren't able to see it.
And right after Grim gives this warning there are two whip-crack sounds, and Grim and Ace are suddenly closer together on screen:
Tumblr media
This might be to represent that they were tied together by Crowley's cloth! While it might also just be Grim hiding behind Ace--visual novels tend to leave a lot to the imagination--Ace and Grim getting tied up by Crowley's cloth is exactly what happens in the novel:
"Though he, too, tries to flee, Ace finds himself magically bound along with Grim, perhaps for being seen with his pen in his hand.” - “Still bound, Ace desperately shakes his head.” - “The laughing Grim is bound even tighter by the cord.” - “Crowley nods as he unties the cord from around the shocked-looking Ace.” - “Looking exhausted, Ace stands up and brushes the dirt from his uniform.” - Twisted Wonderland the First Novel
If you've ever seen fan art of Crowley with a whip, this is why! But I am not sure that the weapon he is using has ever been portrayed on-screen, in the form of a whip, magic cloth or otherwise :>

i feel like just based off of what i've seen so far (mostly EN, some JP, so correct me if i'm wrong), if jude and kate met as kids, he would pull on her pigtails exactly once (1), and regardless of whether she cried or pushed him into the dirt, she'd still come out of the ordeal as the victor cause he's actually a softie.
and he'd spend the twenty or so years scaring away her potential suitors because he's actually secretly in love with her and thinks her taste in men is shitty (case in point: himself), while she'd spend that time semi-successfully seducing him away from other women because she's openly in love with him (even she knows that he knows) and has a tendency to accept scraps instead of the real thing. the only difference is whether kate is combative or not so it is also whether it's friends to lovers or rivals to lovers.
they'd need couples' therapy regardless i think

Do you think testament is horrendously bad at painting because they paint using nothing but a mix of (most likely their own) blood and water as an artistic alternative to watercolors... It dries and it looks like someone dragged the canvas through dirt.
Yeah i like this vision. I once saw someone draw testament making art that i assume was supposed to look like their strive jp va’s art and thats really stuck with me and yeah i think this could be achieved w magic blood

i make jokes we all make jokes about the Frontier gang, about them being feral kids that slept on dirt and barely ate for the first couple of weeks on their adventure, about how they barely had a break a minute to relax before they had to fight for their lives against enemies that were actively hunting for them near constantly and how most of the time their first reaction to a threat is to run head long towards it at max speed and volume.
but that’s really fucked up, right?
The other digidestined didn’t have it easy, but at least they got breaks. Long stretches where they didn’t know where the enemy was and the enemy didn’t know where they were. some digidestined got to go back home and sleep in their own beds and see their family. they had help, they weren’t the ones on the front lines breaking bones and getting burned and zapped and smashed against trees.
few of the main heroes in this series had perfect homes, but literally every person in the Frontier group has issues at home. their homes are dull or broken or cold or distant. Zoe doesn’t have any friends JP isolates himself with humor Takuya is longing for something meaningful Tommy is slowly starting to realize what growing up will take away from him and Koji’s brother broke his damn neck falling down stairs.
None of them have perfect lives back home, all of them have some sort of estrangement waiting for them back home, but when they get a glimpse of it they so desperately want to go back.
The world around them is beautiful and wonderous and dangerous and brutal and cruel and DYING. They hold in their hands the only things that could possibly save it and they keep failing, over and over to make progress and every time they think they’re pushing back an enemy a more powerful one shows up to kick them back down.
There is sadness back home and danger right here and no way out, so the only reaction these kids, these six grade kids, can think of is to push back with all their might. Sometimes that’s enough, most of the time it isn’t. But all they can do is push back harder and hope.
And that sounds exhausting.
I dunno man the Frontier kids make me sad, ya know?

anyways if anyone wants proof that himekaji has always been girly kei... check out galture. its run by japanese gyaru and did a whole feature on the history of gyaru and girly kei.
also isnt it ironic how that one anon who flooded the inbox w "im better than other gals and girly kei wearers have victim complexes" cant stop shitting on girly kei wearers? is it a victim complex or are internet teens who want to use jirai kei as a fashion term guilt-free bc theyre wannabe influencers and offensive terms get clicks just actually cunts to girly kei wearers? how many people who spoke ab girly kei have been bullied off the internet by people like anon?
also u can tell this person doesnt have jp friends... if u did ud be on their dirt accounts and see that girly kei wearers and actual menhera and jirai kei actually often DO have an issue with using jirai kei as a fashion term
this is coming from an actual jirai kei btw so dont pull the "weeeeh weeeh anti jirai are so obsessed" bullshit the poser jirai tend to pull out when no one wants a part of their bullshit

I rewatched The Sword of Life and Death and was once again charmed that Sha Wu Sheng refers to Lin Xue Ya as "Gale" (Ryō in the Japanese dub) which is simultaneously formal and informal in equal measure. It's the short form of Lin's art name, Ryō Fū Setsujin, which the official English subs translate as "The Enigmatic Gale".
Just for fun, I went and looked at the kanji to see what I could learn. Caveat: not a native speaker, just playing around with a JP dictionary; there's probably other subtleties in Mandarin that I am not aware of.
Anyway, Ryō Fū Setsujin is written out as 掠風竊塵, which Wikipedia translates as "Thief of the Wind Dust", but as you can probably imagine, it's a bit more complicated than that.
The first character, 掠, means "pillage" or "rob". It's usually used in compounds, but standing on its own, it's one of the Eight Principles of Yong, referring to specific kinds of calligraphy strokes, all of which are embodied in the character for "eternity" 永 (pronounced yong in Chinese). In the Tang Dynasty, 掠 was known as lüè or 'skim' (among other names); it's the sixth stroke, the sweeping curve at the bottom of the leftmost piece of the character. It's supposed to be drawn quickly, as if skating over the surface.
This dual meaning is preserved in the Japanese verb, 掠める, which means "to steal" but it can also mean "to deceive" or "to touch lightly", "appear or disappear quickly", "to do something while no one is looking" or "to hint and insinuate". In other words, Lin's character in a nutshell.
In English, I'd be tempted to take advantage of the multiple meanings of "skim" ("remove something from liquid" and "embezzle money") and say Sha is calling Lin "Skimmer", which is a little awkward but is also the name of a shorebird, which is fitting since they both have bird motifs. It would also emphasize the transitory nature of their relationship, where Lin is just "passing through" as will as his thieving nature. Skimmers also have a big mouth with the lower beak significantly larger than the top, which is funny because Lin is always talking! Unfortunately, there aren't any species native to China, but Rynchops albicollis can be found further south in Asia, and this is a fantasy world with dragons and monsters, so I'll allow it. "Skimmer" is also slightly classier (and more polite) than a more literal translation like "Thief"; alas, it doesn't fit as well when you add in the rest of the phrase back in.
風 is literally "wind", but with a secondary meaning of "manner" (compare with the English "air", which also has this dual sense). This is partly where Crunchyroll gets "Gale", which I like because Lin is a whirlwind pulling everyone along in his wake.
竊 is "steal, secret, private, hushed" - so once again, we have the thieving aspect coupled with the secrecy, in keeping with Lin's propensity for stealing non-tangible objects and the veil of mystery he operates under. This is where the "Enigmatic" part comes in.
塵 is "dust, trash, garbage" - "Dust" is obviously the more poetic term here, but I personally like the image of Lin as crow ruffling through a dumpster in search of garbage; it suits him. There's a kind of mocking element here; the things Lin steals are worthless in the monetary sense, but they are what his targets value the most, and Lin grinds his victims in the dirt by taking them away. Coupled with the wind imagery, it makes it sound like Lin is a dust devil, kicking up dirt as he goes--conveniently taking us back to "Gale" again. I also appreciate how we now have "trashy" to contrast with the implied elegance elsewhere in the construction.
As you can see, 掠風竊塵 is very challenging to translate succinctly into English; "Thief of Wind Dust" is very literal and covers all the bases ("thief" representing two different characters, lol), while "Enigmatic Gale" is less literal but more poetic in English, and does a better job of capturing the "coolness" inherent in the original. But there's also a lot of subtleties that I wasn't previously aware of; taken together, 掠風竊塵 basically screams "this is a charming but sketchy dude you should not trust", the effect of which is unfortunately lost somewhat in translation.

Poetry No.51 ~ JP Infante
Yasica, Puerto Plata
1.
When I lived in the mountains, I thought the same color meant the same taste. Tangerines, oranges and the sun. Citrus.
When I saw my great-grandmother peel a tangerine with her bare hands while men used knives for oranges, she became God. I imagined what she could do with the sun.
2.
When I returned to the mountains I was a man with disposable income and the exchange rate in my favor. Native Tourist.
My primos became maipiolos offering me primas. They offered to fix and repaint the house my great-grandmother built with the cinderblocks she flung from New York.
3.
My great-grandmother’s health brought our family back to the mountains. On her last night, I was in a bar still high from the Haraka scored in Cabarete.
My fat cousin, doubling as chauffeur and bodyguard, picked me up on his black motoconcho with rum on his breath.
I held on behind him on the motorbike, careful not to touch the 9-millimeter on his hip. Presidente splashed inside me with every curve.
A flickering headlight showed a winding dirt road up ahead. Up above a million tiny suns lit the night sky, waiting to be peeled.

okay so with more of the fe engage names revealed, we can start getting out the red string and make connections that may or may not be there but that i definitely see because im starved for content. bit of a long post sorry lol
for starters, the trailers revealed so far show us a few characters from each region, as well as the region names:
Litos: Alear, Lumere, Vander, Framme, Kuran (Framme's twin, no localized name yet)
Firene: Alfred, Céline, Louis, Etie, Chloé, Bushuron (not Localized yet but I've seen people spell it Boucheron), Eve (the Queen, only mentioned/voiced in the newest trailer+some JP Tweets but no images)
Brodia: Diamant, Citrinne, Alcryst
Solm: Timerra, Fogato
Elusia: Hortensia, Ivy, Hyacinth
Other: Sombron, Zephia, Veyle
Tumblr media
and if you squint, the main four nations seem to have some theme going on each
all the Brodia names are themed after gems/minerals (diamond, citrine, and crystal)
Solm seema to have nature-based names (Timerra sounding like tierra, Spanish for dirt/earth, and Fogato sounding like fogata which means campfire, as well as gato being cat)
Elusian names are based on plants (Hortensia being hydrangea in Spanish, and Ivy and Hyacinth are a bit more obvious)
Firene names are a bit less... object?-based and more like. Region based. They all seem to have European or European-sounding names, mostly French (Céline, Louis, Chloé) while others seem more English (Alfred, Eve)
Litosian(Litian?) names besides the dragons don't seeeem? to have a set theme so far. But Vander apparently means "good man" and Fram can mean "brave and bold" which seems like it fits her personality. Not from Litos also but I guess Zephia is just Sophia spelt weird
Then there's the ones i call "plot relevant names":
most know at this point that Alear can mean alloy/to fuse/to combine (fitting for the theme of the game plus other things I covered in a different post),
Lumera means light (with her being a Divine Dragon who fought against the Fell dragon, her being Light fits),
Sombron ("(big) shadow" in spanish) von Fell Dragon,
and Veyle (which sounds a bit too much like veil for it to be coincidence i think. like she's hiding a secret, and the introduction posts for her in FE's Japanese Twitter imply as much mystery)
Going back on the other nations for a bit though, there's one character currently unaccounted for that we only know one or two details about: Prince Alcryst
he's only been mentioned by name in this description of Citrinne's outfit in the first trailer:
Tumblr media
"Citrinne, Prince Alcryst's retainer"
We Don't see Citrinne in the rest of the first trailer... but she does appear in the second one:
Tumblr media
different outfits, but the earrings and headpiece match, as well as the hair and eye color. so i think we can safely assume it's her. she's seen during the Brodia segment of the new trailer, so that means Alcryst probably is the Brodian Prince... but,
Tumblr media
the one we get explicit confirmation on is Diamant.
So. this means he has a brother! (or that Citrinne isn't from Brodia but why would she be presented there otherwise), And we just so happen to see someone with Citrinne who might fit:
Tumblr media
This little archer guy!
Tumblr media
Similar motifs in armor, same red eyes - and this one might be a bit of a long shot, but just by his general demeanor in the few shots he's in, he seems to be a bit less confident that Diamant. which I think would make their naming scheme really meaningful, with the "older golden brother" being a diamond and the "younger, insecure brother" only being a mere crystal in comparison
also they're together in this shot lol
Tumblr media
and he seems important enough to be right next to Alear in this other shot against the Elusian army
Tumblr media
And so far it seems like it's being set up so that most of the regions might have royal siblings? Firene has Alfred and Céline officially, Timerra and Fogato are the only dark skinned characters shown so far in Solm so I wouldn't put it past intsys for them to be siblings too, Ivy and Hortensia seem like they might have a similar dynamic in Elusia, and Diamant and Alcryst would fit right in (and this would leave Alear an only child unless there's a secret child somewhere. glancing at Veyle but not touching that can of worms now). fire emblem loves its tragic sibling stories (just look at how many there are in Heroes) so this seems like a believable possibility lol
