i haven't blogged about this yet lol but since everyone is FINALLY paying more attention to janelle monae after Glass Onion: pls pls listen to her albums The ArchAndroid, the Electric Lady and ESPECIALLY Dirty Computer, and then check out her compilation of science fiction stories that take place in the same dystopian universe as Dirty Computer (and kind of the other 2): The Memory Librarian: And Other Stories of Dirty Computer. Some trans and sapphic female characters from the Dirty Computer universe are implied within one of the short stories to be the creators of said album in-universe from a dope rebel base maintained by queer female artists. I don't want to spoil anything but it's one of my favorite of several very good science fiction short stories taking place in the same dystopian racist, sexist, queerphobic U.S. Almost all the protagonists of the book are Black, female, working class, and/or queer, and Janelle Monae herself is nonbinary and bi/pansexual
basically if you aren't familiar with either her music or her book please check it out, she's fantastically talented and is giving us queer science fiction fans everything we need IN ADDITION to one of the all time best pop albums and looking cool as hell blowing up the Mona Lisa
|| Dirty Computer (2018) || 4/5🌟 || Sci-Fi/Dystopian/Musical || "A visually stunning story of a young woman named Jane 57821, who is living in a totalitarian near-future society where citizens are referred to as computers. An exploration of the pursuit of happiness and freedom."
I'm going to pride today! So that's why I watched this short film early in the morning.
Fuck what a music video honestly. This shit is so hard. This is just another friendly reminder that Janelle Monae has got bars, and don't you forget it.
the water’s perfectly blue / let’s reintroduce ourselves / from a free point of view / if I’m gon’ sin it’s with you / tattoo your love on my heart / let the rumours be true — Don’t Judge Me, Janelle Monáe
