10.5k words later, after an long writing break (long for me), I finally finished editing and publishing the fifth installment to my Your Love Was Home (Supercorp) series.
Of course, I had to mess up the coding for the emphasis, so part of the story is missing italicization where it needed it (flashback sequence towards the end). I'm too tired, sick, and frustrated to redo it all now. So, just imagine it's there and bare with me.
Enjoy.

But also imagine how easily it would be for Lena to get overstimulated and overwhelmed by noises and light. Depending on how deep she went, she may or may not have had sunlight reach her. And there wouldn't have been any sound except for her own gurgling screams. For centuries.
Like, imagine the group stumbles onto a street fair. At first Lena marvels at it, basking in the bright colors and mirthful sounds. But soon the music and the shouts and the laughter and the bustling crowds all combine into an overwhelming blur. She starts to have a panic attack and pushes through the crowds to find somewhere quiet, forgetting the rest of the group, who lose track of her.
A kind samaritan finds her in an alcove trying to calm her racing heart, but when he puts a hand on her shoulder to check on her, Lena reacts violently, nearly killing him if it weren't for the fact that Kara followed her and intervened just in time. Except Lena doesn't recognize Kara as a friend either, and just starts blindly fighting her, and Kara has to essentially crack her head against a brick wall to knock her out long enough to haul her back to the safehouse.
And remember, Lena is as skilled in combat as Kara, if not better (she's fast and precise whereas Kara is more brawn), so Kara really does have to work to subdue her, and cracking Lena's head open really is the only option.
After Lena revives and calms, Kara is kinda just like "okay, now we know" and moving forward they just keep a closer eye on Lena to read her cues and anticipate when she's getting overwhelmed.
As the decades pass, Lena slowly improves her tolerance, but she's never quite how she was before. They all just simply adapt to and support her as they would any other of their family.

Talon AU
Finally getting around to writing out some new AUs and verses. This one will focus on the Talon verse, which will be by request and plotted out only. TW for mentions of brainwashing below.
Lena was selected for the Slipstream project at 21, just as in the typical verse. She's sent off at 25, crashes, and is lost at 26.
This is where the verses start to split. Winston, with his hands tied with red tape, lack of funding, and lack of support, is trying and failing to establish an Time Isolation Chamber, and an accelerator. Due to the lack of support and "too much work to save one girl who is probably dead anyway", he can't get the chamber up in time.
Meanwhile, Sigma, whose research was used while creating the Slipstream, could feel the disturbance in the fabric that holds the universe together. It wasn't difficult for him to pluck her out of the timeline and engineer a chronal accelerator for her.
Lena, by this point, was driven half mad. Between trying to understand the world on a cosmic level, to being the witness to all of Time's tragedies and victories, watching her friends fall in love and move on, watched alternative timelines where people don't even join Overwatch. Terrible deaths and beautiful creations. The beginning and end, the ouroboros of everything. I'll touch a little bit more on that in another headcanon, but she was non-speaking, barely moving.
Talon had an opportunity. While the Slipstream wasn't exactly advertised, there was enough of a stir that they knew who she was and what had happened. Given her shattered status, it wasn't difficult to begin to feed her information.
Now, there are two different kinds of "brainwashing". There's mind control, which is where someone takes control of the person's body, typically through a mechanical or chemical process. The person doesn't typically want to be committing these acts, but are forced to by the process. Examples of these include the Winter Soldier and Widowmaker.
On the other hand, you have brainwashing as more of a manipulation tactic. This is what Talon used with her. They played the "good cop", providing food and a soft place for her to rest. They were careful to avoid exposing her to any of the headliners ( Doomfist, Max, etc. Reaper and Moira wouldn't be a part of Talon by now ). As they did so, they carefully sowed the seeds of rebellion against Overwatch through offhanded comments and selective news channels being 'left on' so she could hear it from her cell.
As Lena recovered physically, the rage she felt at Overwatch was compounded by the manipulation. She sought vengeance for "what they had done to her" ( even if it wasn't true. ) Talon continued this brainwashing as they allowed her to gain some independence.
Eventually, Lena walked freely around the Talon base. She was given the option of the accelerator, which she accepted without question. And after a while, she was able to start PT and working out again under the observation of some doctors that worked with Talon.
Her powers are similar as a Talon operative. The Blinks, Recalls, and physical prowess is the same. Her mission now is revenge, still general anger and rage at Overwatch as a whole rather than individual people, which makes accomplishing that revenge goal... difficult, at times.
Coming face to face with someone she once considered a friend would lead to a huge crisis of identity. Lena has the ability to stay her hand, to not kill someone, but that conflicts with her sense of self now. So say, if her and Genji came face to face, she can make the choice to kill or spare him, but act of fighting someone she considered close to her would likely send her into a spiral resulting in a necessary retreat.
Talon has methods of controlling if she gets out of hand. There's a killswitch in the accelerator if it's needed that is unknown to her. It can be set to disable or kill, depending on the needs of the situation. Additional corruption can take place, with Lena being sequestered Talon HQ and manipulated further if necessary.
Her codename for Talon is Spectre, known for being a silent and deadly killer. Her personality changes substantially, with Lena become withdrawn and angry. There's much less chatter on the battlefield and even around fellow Talon members, she's much quieter in the base verse.

actually i wish there was more disabled representation in supergirl. lena couldve been in her wheelchair and played by a disabled woman quite easily (i love katie mcgrath as lena too but like,,,imagine the representation the disabled community couldve gotten). the closest we get to representation in the show is j’onn’s brother malefic. hell even in s5e13 we couldve had disabled lena in the evil au. it even mentions that she was gravely injured. and yet… able bodied lena. for some reason. cowards. the cw are cowards.

If we are the sum total of all our memories and experiences, who would we be without them? After Alex is involved in an incident on her way home, she is about to find out.
When she wakes up to a whole life she has no memory of, and which has now been altered irrevocably, a lot of work is needed to deal with the fallout. As someone who has never been known for healthy coping mechanisms, this is a big ask. But…if you don’t remember who you were, can you learn to be someone different?
Pretty much AU as while this draws from the main beats of cannon, Alex’s history gets a hefty rewrite. Chapter 7
Alex is not exactly known for always making the smartest choices, often a result of her why-the-hell-not attitude meeting her fierce sense of independence. With no knowledge of her past and a desperate need to find out she might want to both be careful what she wishes for and what choices she makes.

Auch auf dem Cyberfeld: M.A.D.?
Historische Wahrheiten öffentlich symbolisiert! Nun: Manches Mal bleibt wohl keine andere Wahl. In diesem Fall?
Stepchildren of the Shtetl, The Destitute, Disabled, and Mad of Jewish Eastern Europe, 1800-1939.
Freunde ... ! Was? Toll. Beerdigungen aller Herren Länder! Immer wieder lustig. Und dann erst das Geschwafel der Witwen. Lena? Liebling? Auch endlich das Innerste nach außen gekehrt? Verzweifelt und "Ganz alleine" auf der Welt? Och! Und die Kinder? Na sieh' einer an. Lina! Doch! Bin begeistert!
Wollen! Ja sicher doch! Weitere? Was? Och nee! Bitte! Warum? Wieso? Christiane? Geben Sie Ihr Bestes. Bitte!

(I know very little about wheelchairs so all of them are different).
Also, here supercorp is engaged, bottom right you could say is after Kara asks the 💍??

I finally got back to my writing!
I Have Many Skills Chapter 8: Just Trying to Relax Kara was in a bar and for once instead of just sipping on a soda while her friends and sister drank she joined them and got a vodka soda with lime.
She wasn’t supposed to drink on her medications so she normally was well behaved and had the bartender make her something that looked like it could have alcohol in it to make any outsiders assume she was actually drinking instead of having to deal with people asking why she didn’t drink.
Everyone always seemed to think it was their problem that she was sober when she went out with her friends and would only leave her alone if she told them she had been paralyzed and didn’t feel particularly inclined to lose the use of her limbs again. That however, not only had the effect of making the person stop insisting she drink, but scared people off and put a bit of a damper on the conversation.
But tonight was different. Tonight, she was drinking. Tonight, she was going to forget all the stress from the past week at work and just relax with her friends.
Lena leaned into her side laughing at something Winn had said and Kara was drawn back into the conversation playing out.
“You mean to tell me you hacked into the fire department’s computer system at the age of 9 just to get a girl’s phone number to see how to beat a level of a video game instead of asking her out???”
“I mean I was nine! All i cared about was the game! I never thought dating her was an option!”
“But you did have a crush on her didn’t you!” Alex jabbed.
Winn blushed at that “Well, I mean yeah probably! But you haven’t played Winnie the Pooh’s Home Run Baseball Derby if you don’t understand how imperative it was that I beat Christopher Robin! And this girl HAD!”
Everyone had to laugh at that.
“Only you would be obsessed with a Winnie the Pooh video game Bro” James shook his head.
“Look, it’s not important that it was Winnie the Pooh. What was important is that only a very select few had the hand eye coordination required to beat the final level! Even adults couldn’t do it!” He dug the phone out of his pocket to search for a Youtube video. “Watch this and you will see what I mean!”
Kara took a large sip of her drink while everyone was watching the video, but apparently not everyone had been looking away.
“Kara, are you okay? I noticed you had the bartender pour you a double today.” Lena gently commented. Softly enough that the others wouldn’t turn and join in.
Slightly caught off guard, Kara adjusted her glasses and took a breath before replying “Nothing really. Just work stuff, you know…” Lena raised an eyebrow at that as if she didn’t fully believe that Kara was telling her everything.
“I don’t know,” Kara sighed. “I’ve just been going through some processing lately and it all feels like it is piling out of control and I work hard all the time only to get more work assigned and never have my boss get my name right, even though I swear she knows it is Kara not Kiera, and her mother came in unexpectedly this week and felt the need to drag Cat’s personal life into the office and I’ve been on cleanup duty for that and I don’t know how to get my arms to stop shocking me so I might as well get drunk and have them shock me while I am relaxed!” Kara blurted out. Her eyes widened when she realized how much she had confessed in one rather long breath of a sentence.
“Maybe you should slow down on the alcohol and just try and hang out like we normally do.”
“Yeah, I mean probably, but I’m tired of always following the rules.” She formed air quotes as she talked “‘No caffeine!’ ‘Exercise all the time!’ ‘But don’t exercise too much!’ ‘Don’t have stress!’ ‘But also pay your medical bills that are exorbitantly high!’ ‘Don’t drink like everyone else your age does because it’s bad for you!’ ‘Just try to live your life!’ ‘Here are a billion little jobs to do!’ ‘Why aren’t you sleeping enough?’ Sometimes it makes me want to scream! So instead I have a drink or two as a form of rebellion. It’s dumb, I know, but it’s one of the few things left that I feel like I can control without fully spiraling.”
“I see what you mean,” Lena conceded. “But perhaps don’t get full on drunk tonight and just drink enough to get buzzed so that you don’t pay in the morning?”
“That sounds reasonable enough. You’re smart, I should probably listen to you.”
“HA! It doesn’t take a PHD to learn that lesson. I’m just suggesting it because I used to do the same back in boarding school but I wouldn’t stop early enough and I paid big time a couple of times. Wouldn’t want to see you facing Cat Grant with a hangover now would we?”
“Who’s hungover?” Alex asked, suddenly interested.
“Nobody! I mean not right now at least!” Kara blurted.
“Kara, something you want to talk about?”
“Nope! Just fine! Lena was just talking about a time back in boarding school.”
Alex shrugged, “Okay then, carry on.”
________________________________________________________________
It was a few hours later and Kara had had about 3 drinks. Reasonably spaced out, but she was definitely not sober anymore. After all, the medication she took was supposed to double the effects of alcohol on her system so she was probably drunker than not.
“I’m just gonna grab some water at the bar. Anyone else want some?”
“No thanks Kara!” most of them replied.
“Mind if I join?” Lena asked.
“Sure!” Smiling, Kara headed over to the bar slightly wobblier than usual but nobody seemed to notice because she wasn’t that good at walking straight to begin with. Things always seemed to blur together when she had alcohol and it made it seem like a long exposure picture in video form.
She got the bartender’s attention, asked for two waters and then turned to Lena.
“Thanks for checking up on me earlier. It means a lot that you notice when I might not be acting like my usual self.”
“Of course! It’s what I’m told friends do for one another. Or I assume it’s what a decent person would do if they saw someone the cared about seemed upset or stressed.”
“Still, I like that you suggested I slow down without telling me I can’t do something like everyone else seems to. They think because I am disabled I suddenly might not know what’s good or bad for me but you respect that I know my body enough to make my own decisions, so thank you.”
“Any time. I’m not one to enjoy being told how to live my life either so I understand that sentiment.”
At this Kara couldn’t help but to hug her friend until she noticed the bartender had returned with their waters.
“Thank you!” she waved as the bartender turned to help the next customer.
“Let’s go join the others and find out what Alex has been hiding from us this past week. I swear she is up to something.”
Kara grabbed onto Lena’s hand and pulled her towards the table to join the others.

Some Gravity Falls OCs of mine! Ask me about any of them!
We got Nicolai Northwest; Pacifica’s less social brother.
Duke Sabers and Hellen Jimenez basically become Dipper’s Candy and Grenda in AU’s where the twins live in Gravity Falls, with Hellen also being Mabel’s goth girlfriend.
Lena Watskey and the LeCult brothers are a part of the Felony Squad; Stan’s closest friends from his homeless days. I posted about them before.
Ross Pines is Shermie’s wife and Dipper and Mabel’s grandmother, who’s character is super based off my Nana.
Irelin Corduroy is Wendy’s mother; a small woman with a muscle disability who might not be able to kick ass but she can take names.
Buzz Halburd was Stan’s childhood boxing coach, and a better father figure to the twins than Fillbrick ever could be.
And finally there’s William Snakespear; a snake demon who’s got a side hobby of bounty hunting, who became Ford’s nemesis while he was out in the multiverse. There are multiple kinds of tensions between the two.

Phantom Zone AU where Lena uses an exosuit and a transmat portal to go to the PZ and find Kara. Her tech gets her pretty close to Kara, actually, but between the short search and the inevitable fight with some wraiths/resentful PZ residents, they're there for what feels like maaaaybe a few days. Which are long enough, but even so, by the time they tumble back through the portal back to Earth, they discover that time in the PZ passes differently than on Earth.
Because it's been several years since Lena left.
Maybe the Tower isn't even the Superfriends' base of operations anymore. Maybe they step through the portal into a residence housing a bunch of college kids. Maybe Lex found the Tower and destroyed it, having turned the public against them and other vigilantes/aliens.
Either way, nothing is the same.
While Lex had announced his fear and concern about Lena and Kara's absences to the public, he had privately claimed responsibility for Lena's disappearance, taunting them that he had killed her (maybe Lena had left a bit of mess behind her when she left, which had supported his claims-- along with the fact that Lena couldn't possible be stupid enough to go into the PZ alone so it doesn't even occur to them that she would).
So they believe Lena dead, and with their best chance of getting Kara back 6ft under, they believed Kara lost for good.
Which means Kara finds her sister barely holding it together, broken up with Kelly and her plans for a family up in flames.
J'onn isn't faring much better, for having lost yet another daughter and been unable to help the one girl he has left.
Nia and Brainy have broken up, but are faring better than J'onn and Alex.
Andrea has joined the Superfriends as Acrata in a bid to exact revenge on Lex for killing Lena. She's the only one whose anguish is focused on Lena instead of Kara. (Most of the others simply count Lena as a victim of Kara being gone, the first of so many that they've become numb to it all.)
All of this leads to Kara and Lena having to work together to put it all right. Kara focuses on helping the aliens and others dispossessed by the smiling stranglehold Lex has on the city, while also trying to salvage what's left of her sister.
Lena focuses on Lex directly, as she's the only one who stands a chance in squaring off with him directly, both physically and intellectually. And she's wildly successful, considering that Lex has no idea she's back and blames Acrata for his private journals going missing and his manipulative treatment of Lena while growing up making a splash on the front page news.
Lena upgrades her exosuit to exceed Lex's, so when she and Kara finally reveal themselves, they're well matched. It's still a tough battle, but Lex's lack of concern for collateral damage not only puts Lena and Kara at a disadvantage as they try to mitigate his recklessness, but also cements his villainy in the public's eye, as both news crews and cellphones capture footage of his rampage.
When he's defeated-- with Lena walking away after deciding not to kill, only to have Kara incinerate him with her heat vision when Lex when he tries to shoot Lena in the back-- they're the two who are left to pick up the pieces.
Lena takes over at LuthorCorp again (which soon becomes L-Corp, as it should be), and Kara works with the disenfranchised to rebuild and accommodate alien/disabled needs. It takes years, but they succeed in returning National City to its rightful place as a beacon of hope and acceptance in the world.
This time, when the next statue of Supergirl is erected, Lena is cast in bronze right beside her.

I love that you’re planning to discuss topics that society has deemed unacceptable and/or awkward like sexualities because I feel that it brings a new, lifelike, relatable layer to each character! I know not everyone is going to agree with what you’re doing, so I admire your bravery. I’m curious though, since Chase has been stated to be dyslexic, does that mean that any other characters have disorders? I hate using that word but I don’t know how else to phrase it. Sorry if I’m being too awkward!
Aw thank you! And yeah based off the previous ask, there are gonna ppl who disagree with this, unfortunately. But I’m really glad I’m able to give each character different layers and have so many of you support that, it means so much!
I think maybe another word you could’ve been looking for is disabilities? I may have that wrong but this is a really interesting question!
Like you mentioned, Chase deals with dyslexia but he’s also occasionally deals with an abnormal heart condition from time to time, it was really bad when he was a baby but things have gotten better with it as he got older and with treatment, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone. This was something I introduced in my original story and it’ll stay for the rewrite.
Troy struggles with asthma, although his really bad attacks are few and far between, and he keeps an inhaler with him often.
Once Dewey’s home he’ll be struggling with PTSD and nightmares about his experience Mars and this creates a constant fear he’ll always let his family down. While I do plan to have Dewey say some “gotta cope with jokes” moments, there’s only so much a person can go through and joke about without someone raising an eyebrow and wanting to push them to get help, so after the breaking point (a scene I’ve been planning for awhile) that’s when Dewey seeks help with a therapist and then with doctors for his physical injuries. I think Dewey is also ADHD coded, at least he’s presented that way a lot of the time, hence his constant impulsive behaviors and hyperactivity, so that’s something of his that has remained too, in a different way since he’s older.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before but Webby has been actively seeing a therapist for a few years and struggles with anxiety but her therapy has helped her in how to deal with it and manage it.
Canonically Huey deals with anger issues and (admittedly this one is more fanon than canon but the coding is there) is heavily implied to be autistic, so his McDuck temper and all his little stimming and comfort actions will be referenced throughout the AU.
Shelly, although much better than her teenage-young adult years, still sometimes struggles with an eating disorder but that only becomes really bad when she’s filled to the brim with stress and anxiety over things and she’ll continually skip meals and not take care of herself. And while not as bad as Huey’s, Shelly’s got her own anger issues too. There is also another aspect about Shelly that I really wanna say but I can’t, because if I do it’ll raise a lot of questions and spoil something I have planned to explore down the line so for now that’ll remain as the good ol’ spoilers file.
Even Emily has somethings she’ll be dealing with it, but again, that’s also a spoiler and we shall talk about that another time.
Oh and Lena also struggles with PTSD and anger about Magica and still lowkey disliking her own magic which becomes worse when she comes back to normal after her corruption and realizes what that magic has done to Aurora. Lena can’t catch a break, forgive me Lena.
Louie also deals with an anxiety disorder and he deals with in a different way than both Huey and Webby do.
Rt the whole duck family has anxiety, it would seem.

Supergirl 6x04 Lost Souls
We love to see it: Seven interviews. Azie Tesfai talking about Kelly Olsen. A montage of the poster cast talking about Kara being in the Phantom Zone. Four interviews with Katie McGrath. Nicole Maines on a video chat.
Things I hadn't missed: The intro montage (and we're still on the rainbow logo rather than bisexual lighting), CatCo and the characters of Andrea and William tied to it. It says a lot if characters can be removed without mention and no-one feels their absence. The show has outgrown CatCo as it has the DEO. There wasn't even a mention of Nia's CatCo retreat to tie in the company upon her return to this episode, seemingly in exchange for Kelly. A lot of this episode is civilians feeling inadequate in a superhero setting, and Kelly comes under that with her scraped hands. It's another instance of Kelly having reduced screentime and agency, while Lena is openly crying two episodes in a row about her guilt about Kara being in the Phantom Zone. It would be nice to have a comparison of a sister-in-law civilian vs the romantic framing of Lena (and their stealing of former workplace tech to save the day). I want civilian bonding.
I want civilian in general, because this season has been all Tower and no Kara, the titular character. Part of the show's charm was characters being pulled away from mundane life with the weirdest of excuses to go save the day. Supposedly the world falls to pieces if Supergirl is absent, but we're not hearing about it. No pedestrian comment from saved people, passers by, or the news about a new vigilante or the absence of Supergirl. Kara's having an extended 'absence' from work and it's not being relayed by Nia that there's been no satellite phone calls to report in her Cat Grant interview (is there even a fake plane ticket? I want tourist souvenirs). The insular Tower has call buttons for other superheroes and The Flash would have been ideal - fastest man alive to run past the baby phantoms to pierce the soul storage egg (happy Easter). If the real world was considered, then heat map technology exists. You want to find sub zero temperatures in warm weather, cross off the known freezer units for businesses and investigate the remaining ones. Boom. Civilian logic saves the day. Kara's going to get back and realise the world coped fine without her, because no-one noticed her absence and it only took her friends (family) to save it with no external help and no consequence. The SuperFriends didn't just save the day, they did so unscathed (I'm sure Kelly's hands will heal).
We won't mention exchanging death by rape for killing newborns. It's a pandemic, but AIDS rather than COVID 19. Specifically coded with a gay man and a black African woman being the first characters to succumb to fungal nails, wasting your body and revealing you to be sub-human (queer and black). If the pandemic was Covid coded then it would be disabled people dying. The show decided Phantoms would get the biped treatment but no empathy beyond that. Once you're the villain group, what happens to you doesn't matter (Daxamites having no home, Phantoms not being allowed to reproduce). There's an ethical discussion being ignored. There's also Lena and Alex's alcoholism being ignored, while Brainy is being talked through his depression binge eating.
Everyone keeps saying the Phantom Zone is the worst. It looks like Kara fell into a cave during a camping trip and is getting a bit gaunt in the face from lack of food (kudos to the make up department for doing more work than the script). The 100th AU was a better instance of Kara living nightmare scenarios. Meanwhile, Alex has had a montage of missing Kara, M'Gann has physic nightmares, and Nia repeatedly dreams Midvale, all during Phantom attacks. So why isn't Kara getting the same montage and repetition, when she's stuck in the Phantom Zone? Her father (assuming he's real, gotta live for that cis het reunion) is supposedly what Kara could turn into. The guy has clinincal depression, untreatable even with an environmental change according to Nyxly. If he had depression before coming to the Phantom Zone, it may explain the pyjama chic as you are stuck in whatever outfit you were sent to the PZ wearing (he could have been working from home to yeet Argo). I think knowing your planet is dying from environmental exploitation and beaurocracy is stopping you from healing it, that's a contributing factor to depression.
One thing I do love about 5th dimensional Imps is their desire to kill men that bring Kara down. I assume they are repeating in miniature Lena's season 5 arc, this time punishing people who should have supported her, but not to the point of killing. So we're going to have fun before she sees the error of her ways, probably teaming up with Lex in 6B. Meanwhile, Lena is getting actual character development. As Brainy has had the killer lines this season, it's "about time" Lena was a fully accepted SuperFriend. It should have happened in season 3 (imagine how much failed tech plot we'd skip if Lena wasn't outsourced), rather than having her be stuck in a loop of family abuse for four seasons. The showrunners make characters fit plots and reset them to zero for the next plot, rather than characters organically growing. Plus, the plots are so weak that they need a shock to sustain them through the second half of the season. Everything that happens with J'onn is of little consequence as they all go back to Mars (though it is lovely that M'Gann is still here). Nia had a great introductory season and then sidelined. Kelly doesn't have agency and dispenses advice like a fortune cookie. James became the CEO of a company and instead of exploring the workload that Cat Grant endured, he added vigilante to his abilities. James had a damaged eye in season 4 which would have impacted his photography, but they removed the disability rather than explore consequences for being a superhero without abilities. Alex suffers the worst for serving the plot, changing on an episodic basis, and so much for her having a quieter desk job to have children. Brainy parellels Lena for working with Lex and his romance (coding at this point after pinky promises?) with Nia, so somehow it's Lena that's driving the narrative. It's the final season so whatever progress characters make should stick. Should, but having no faith as the reset, sidestep, and contradictory buttons have been hit too many times.
The show is called Supergirl, so with any good showrunners, the audience should see a throughline of organic development of the titular character, and six seasons in we should be able to predict the natural conclusion of her arc. Any guesses what Kara's through line is? Answers on a postcard from the Phantom Zone. Delays expected due to pandemic precautions aka smashing mirrors. I can't believe the showrunners had the opportunity to delay filming so Benoist could have maternity leave. Instead we have the titular character going nowhere in her final season for seven episodes. The show could be called Aliens Of National City, as we're seeing the main cast develop in Kara's absence. The show has always been good at characters talking about each other rather than to each other. We see the progress when Nia and Brainy talk to each other, and when J'onn and M'gann talk to each other, and Kelly and Alex talk to each other. But who has Lena got to talk to? At this point I'm wondering if Lena will talk to everyone in succession as a 'welcome to the family', or if the cursory Nia tour and J'onn acknowledgement is it, with the Brainy BrOTP and now Alex dispensing sisterly advice on the Balcony of Feels. "Forgive youself already and move on," seems like huge progress from a woman that was ready to drop a bomb on her.
Lena (I feel like Kara, mentioning her all the time) has added more romantic parallels. On a balcony, Clark told Kara that he'd choose Lois over world, and on a balcony Lena chooses Kara over the world. Lena's priority has always been Kara/Supergirl (she hasn't made saving suits for anyone else). She killed her ex boyfriend Jack, killed her brother, and was prepared to boost the Phantom population to save Kara (people only care if it's humans or human passings dying). "There's no line I wouldn't cross to keep you safe," is what she told her romantic partner James in season 3. Kara's done the same for Lena over the years, notably not dropping her from a plane at the risk of poisoning the water supply, letting Metallo Lena kill her rather than fight her, and wouldn't stop her using Myriad for Non Nocere. Another romantic parallel is the handing over of soul fragments. J'onn brought M'Gann back using a piece of her soul that she'd bonded to him romantically, and Lena was given Kara's digital soul to bring her back.
The digital soul recording being lost forever is an easily unravelled plot point. They could just use a phone to record the recording. Similarly, having to time travel to 2009 Midvale is unnecessary. Alex only remembers Kara solar flaring twice, the window in which to get her DNA to track her. I remember the most recent flare being 5x01, where Kara says she'll solar flare to close the black hole at the event horizon. And I imagine she blew her powers in the Reign fight, which is why she was dropped off the roof. Plus, as much as I like the crystal recording to be gone so the bangs can be forgotten, Kara had to flare to cut her fringe. And in the civilian world, DNA is strong in families. I’m surprised the genetic blueprint for the House of El isn’t in the Fortress. Kara's mother is still alive on Argo, and Clark as a first cousin will share DNA. Heck, even if they pulled Zor-El out by mistake because of the familial match would make sense here to keep Kara gone longer. I can't believe the Earth Prime DEO didn't have a vial of Supergirl's blood on hand in case they needed to get into the Fortress, the way Lillian did in season 2. I should be rewarded for paying attention, not disappointed.
- Why does Zor-El speak Earth languages in the Phantom Zone? I had assumed until 'daughter' that they were speaking Kryptonese but for the sake of the audience it was presented as English. - I do love the data crystal recording though. Talking about found family is one thing, but phrasing it as 'not about names' when people have only ever had issue with the name Luthor. - Nia misses her mom. Brainy offers himself as a replacement. Kara misses the parents she remembered. Taking bets that Lena offers herself as a replacement. - Show not even hiding the rip off ideas from other shows. Ghostbusters! - Apparently Lena doesn't sleep when Kara's in danger. - I'm not bothered that the Fortress of Solitude is 'home' in the mirror. I assume it's programmed to lock onto the nearest Krypton soil sample. -Like the hand holding focus
