Random Facts: Holden & Vincent
Holden has attracted birds since the night of his Embrace. Familiars are no exception, as Vincent has proved by appearing more than once at Rohan’s cabin at Xavier’s estate. He’s never said hello, nor does he intend to unless Xavier introduces him. He doesn’t know why he watches him. Many of the local avian wildlife agree; there’s just something alluring about him.

my old man dog isn't great at hopping up on the couch anymore but he CAN do it and he will NOT accept help. it's almost adorable except when he just stands in front of me and barks at me to get out of "his" spot so that i'll stop what i'm doing, get up off the couch, and watch as he spends 5 minutes hyping himself up to jump into my newly vacant seat

25 Laws of power for women
Conceal your goals especially the ones that are appealing. Losing weight, reinventing yourself, marrying wealthy. Instead talk about your altruistic goals - to help children, invest in education, this will chase insecure people with vile intentions.
Do not give anyone your source of power: Was is a book that changed your life? a mentor? a movie? Never give up your secret to success. If forced to do say allude to God, the universe, the a random phenomenon
Use the patriarchy to your favor; we live in a world that is, only associate with men who have power, use that power for good.
Never appear too perfect but be selectively vulnerable when needed. Only share something that you will be comfortable saying. You might say “I forget my keys all the time,” “I don’t know how to perfectly park a car “. But never disclose something you are not comfortable with just because you are afraid of being perfect.
Maintain distance in relationships. Friends are the best and you need them. But if you feel that they are becoming too dependent, see them at your own will. But also the reverse could be the case. Your friend may keep a distance, and that is the way of life. You have got to move on from it.
Develop your own style that makes you unique, beautiful, and elegant. Avoid trying to fit in the crowd of people who claim to care less about their style yet have too many opinions about other women’s style
Avoid male friends at all cost, you will have male colleagues, male bosses, male acquaintances, business partners. Keep it that way. You do not want a Truman Capote divulging your secrets to the world. Do not keep a man who does not fit your standard.
You do not have to win at every game. Pick and choose what is best for you and leave room for others. And step down if you have attained that level of success, do not let the society do it for you.
Trust people but remember that we are all humans. So trust with discretion!
Confuse people with kindness; people are not always comfortable with beautiful and intelligent women. That power is too intimidating so confuse them by being genuinely generous, curious, kind, and passionate.
Keep your strong opinions to yourself.. if you support a movement, a way of life, do so silently.
We all have dirty laundry, wash them privately, don’t expose yourself. Remain silent when people try to attack you or shame you. Whatever is not confirmed is not true. You are the only one who knows all the truth about you.
Don’t attract pity or praise: People who pity you do not help you, in fact they might think that you are weak and could mock you at their annual gossipping meeting. And if you are doing things for the sake of praise you are wasting your time.
Choose yourself all the time; never put any one’s feelings above yours.
Trust your own intuition if you feel someone is being malicious towards you, giving you back handed compliments then you should let them go
Never speak bad of another woman. Do not lazy around gossipping. Keep your hands clean and your conscience clear.
Avoid women with low self esteem they will bring you down. For some reason they do not like seeing other women who are doing better than them
Be careful who you seek validation from. Not everyone needs to be pleased. If they are in no way capable of contributing to your life in the ways you prefer, then don’t ask them for their opinions or please them.
Do not compete with other women, if you do you are only putting them on a pedestal. You are making the the standard by which you measure your progress. If you do compete, begin digging your grave.
Do not give unsolicited advice, do not share the inner workings of your mind, If your mouth is very charitable you better start journaling.
Be well-rounded and interesting. It attracts people. It also keeps you busy because you are continually improving and learning. An idle mind is an easily subdued one.
Avoid women who want to live vicariously through you; they want to know who you know, shop where you shop, befriend who you befriend, wear what you wear.
Pay attention to the source of your discomfort; get rid of them. You tell them your dreams and they remind you of all your hindrances. They ask why are you dressed so fancy as though fancy isn’t subjective. They undermine you interests and goals. They will also be quick to bring you down because they are afraid of your potential.
Do not fear power or please power. When we see powerful people we try to hard to befriend them, to be close to them but you need to be comfortable without them. Don’t push yourself in the name of friendship, do not try too hard to be in their inner circle. Your independence of mind is the most important. Instead become a powerful woman, aloof to the presence of power but aware of its importance. Be an ingenious and intelligent and use your creativity to uplift yourself. When you do so it will be hard to ignore you. Even the powerful will become an ally.
Enjoy moments of solitude. Use that time to develop yourself, improve your body, learn new skills, create with your mind, read widely, become more elegant, then launch yourself.
Remember the most powerful women are the most intelligent. Inspired by Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power. Use at your discretion.

Mental Models from Multiple Disciplines
Mental models are deeply ingrained assumptions, generalizations, or even pictures of images that influence how we understand the world and how we take action. – Peter Senge Mental models are the ways of understanding the world around us. We have to make sense of things happening. Some are simple to understand but many are complex to comprehend. Hence, we need to visualize and picturized. We do…

Another unsolicited Vampire: the Masquerade opinion
I feel like they missed a great opportunity with V:tM's V5 to really unfuck the Banu Haqim discipline of Quietus and really give the clan a signature niche within vampirism. Something that would've really tied together their misc. Blood Sorcerous powers and REALLY been for them what Protean was for Gangrel, and Dominate is for Ventrue.
They could introduce a whole new discipline that serves as Common, pretending it has always been there from the start, but make Banu Haqim the undisputed masters of it (the way Ventrue are with Dominate, Toreador Presence, and Brujah with Celerity.)
There's a Discipline niche that they have always possessed that could've used more elaboration. Quietus began as a series of random powers that were... "assassin discipline." Stuff like silencing your movements, enabling you to poison someone with your blood, put a curse on someone to debilitate them, poison your weapon with your blood, and then poison your spit long range.
Given how they folded Vicissitude into the Protean discipline and decided to keep it simple with a few master Disciplines, such as making Obeah and Valeren just specialist powers of Fortitude and Auspex, well..
Level 1 Quietus was objectively folded into Obfuscate and Presence. Which is logical.
Level 2 is just synonymous with using Protean. We know just by Vicissitude being folded into Protean that turning your blood to acid or making it toxic is easily inside Protean's power, and after that it's either just the right level of Protean comboing with something else (auspex for that mental supernatural power, maybe) for all variations of poisoning your blood, from the initial toxification, to coating weapons with it, to spitting it. So any of the old Quietus powers that made blood a debuffing weapon are just Protean related.
And that effectively frees up what later became the narrative "Assassins" blood related discipline for the true abilities, that I believed were robbed from it. Discipline powers related to blood, the way Obtenebration (now Oblivion) relate to the shadow stuff, itself.
And then we have the Vizier and Sorcerer variants to Quietus, which effectively added Rituals to it. But, the trouble here is most of those powers were merely reproducable if you combine Auspex with Fortitude or Protean. Whether it's making yourself able to see ghosts, using your blood to hurt people (material or incorporeal). All these powers can be reproduced with applying Protean and Auspex.
So then, that leaves us with a question. If every single Banu Haqim original discipline is reproducable with Auspex and Protean.... what unique utility COULD they conceivably possess that warrants a unique niche?
That's incredibly simple. It's a niche not unlike how supernatural shadow and undeath are intrinsic and inherent to the vampiric condition, but themselves are not considered inherently Blood Sorcery. Less like arcane manipulations of a magical thing, and more like how a half-dragon explores and starts mastering the power of their birthright and inherent powers.
I will admit, however, you could take everything I suggest here and just combine Potence + Auspex and some Protean to reproduce some of thee powers, circumventing the need and idea of a unique niche. But, I argue that not only are these suggested powers very fitting for the Assassins of Arabia, but they have their own unique niche that could be explored in the modern era.
The Banu Haqim have always shined with their mysterious niche in the form of what they do with their vitae. And I argue, that's one underutilized avenue for a new discipline in V:tM. Distinct from Blood Sorcery, and something more native, organic to their condition.
Imagine a Discipline power that treated blood related bonuses and advantages the way Potence, Fortitude and Celerity treat them, not as simple sorcerous benefits like blood related Thaumaturgy.
So this unnamed Vitae focused discipline would itself be the discipline and practice of understanding your own vampire blood, and how to maximize the effectiveness of it, despite your generation. This would not only do for vampire blood what Obtenebration (Oblivion) did for a vampire's shadow nature, making it a muscle to flex, but give new, permanent utility.
Imagine a 1-5 power that gave the benefits of having a higher Blood Potency, effectively, minus the drawbacks of the necessity of feeding. Or a power that gave you an advantage when you use Blood Buff, reducing the cost to maintain the effect.
Or really utilizing that classic Celerity based, "Retain the Quick Blood." Making vitae use so efficient that you can reduce the amount spent, minimizing how much vitae is consumed just functioning in the world. That makes absolute sense as a power for a desert dwelling vampire! And would be a mysterious, exotic niche of knowledge that other vampires just may not have ever needed to cultivate quite so hard as those that live surrounded by hot, scorching desert and the threat of the burning sun. Reducing vitae costs to where you get rebates and return of it, over time.
Or, depending on a 20th Anniversary mechanics system or V5 system, 1-5 levels of it affecting Hunger and the stains of it. Bonuses to your Virtues like Self-Control and Conscience, or Composure and Hunger Dice rolls. Or blood pool management and rouse checks (v20 and v5 respectively), allowing them to treat their blood pool as if it's larger a fuel tank than it is.
You could have non-sorcerous uses for it that are very similar. Higher levels of this Vitae based discipline enabling one to more easily communicate with those whose blood you have consumed, or the other way around.
You could have a pure vampire vitae based sensory ability that lets you determine the exact nature of a person's clan by taste, then sight, then just sheer proximity alone. Powers that at higher levels can be used to interfere with the inherent power of another's blood (in a less sorcerous fashion), effectively treating someone else as weaker, generationally, for a duration. Locking off their access to Disciplines, making them more exposed to their own clan or vampiric curses, making it more difficult to use them or go beyond their default natural limits and make them easier prey.
I submit to you that the special "physical" discipline niche of the Banu Haqim should have always been the economics, mechanics and esoteric curse characteristics of vampire vitae, which would compliment their narrative niche in both fluff and crunch in a way that their past disciplines, both Quietus and the more arcane and sorcerous Dur-An-Ki, never quite succeeded in doing. It gives them a unique utility, it also provides another avenue for powers that other kindred may have developed at some point without even understanding they developed them, as well as many Protagonist type benefits of Blood Potency without the story narrative drawbacks of being quite so potent, fixing plotholes where the Banu Haqim were more threatening than they should've been.
Being able to Blood Buff more thoroughly and more often for cheaper compensates quite well for not natively having Fortitude or Potence on board, without necessarily giving them one discipline that provides workarounds for the special powers or benefits of both Disciplines in modern V5. It would also offer new utility for the members of clans or clanless that learn it. So, to summarize. A discipline that focuses on:
Blood Bonds
Management of Heart's Blood and the liquid state of the vampire's soul, inside their hearts.
Sympathetic, vitae-to-vitae communication across long distances, not based on genuine telepathy but the vampiric condition itself (spooky action at a distance)
Blood Buffs, and the advantages they provide to raw stats in numbers, maximum thresholds and ability to maintain them.
Blood Potency, providing an alternate workaround to making Banu Haqim all very low generation from diablerie. Emphasizing advantages, minimizing disadvantages.
Manipulation of curses to lighten them or manage them holistically by sheer grit and conviction, which is the Banu Haqim to a T.
Manipulation of the benefits, power, curses and burden of the vampiric condition in other peoples blood, just by sympathetic virtue to their own.
A Discipline that interacts and interfaces directly with the kindred's ability to handle their own urges and beast.
A Discipline that allows disguising ones' own blood potency, diablerist status and can give false positives to anyone using extraordinary senses to try and study their condition.
You could accomplish all these individual things with combinations of Protean, Auspex, Fortitude, Protean and applications of Blood Sorcery, yeah, I get it. But, you could stick Presence, Dominate and Animalism all under the same banner and just make them three different expressions of the same mental discipline, too. So, clearly, we recognize that certain disciplines are distinct for streamlining purposes, and others are folded into other disciplines to make a statement about how unique their niches fill.
For god's sake, they rolled up all Blood Sorcery into its own singular title like they were all the same, whether the Middle Eastern magic, European sorcery or Ancient Egyptian stuff, and gave THIN-BLOOD ALCHEMY its own unique category and niche rather than just working the mechanics to normal assed Blood Sorcery. So, clearly we're playing editional favorites with new toys.
You've got the subset powers that are more related to using the blood as a weapon in combat, the subset powers that are more about social relationships and communication, and the subset powers that are about utility and adaptation to the environment and spiritual turmoil of the vampiric condition in a resource bereft sun drenched hell that is Saharan Africa, allowing better survival against substance and soil. All of them in a power that is closer related to Protean, Oblivion, Potence, Celerity and Fortitude in how it mechanically operates, than to Blood Sorcery.
And it blends well as a combo for other disciplines, bridging that gap mechanically. The same way greater mastery of Potence or Fortitude lends itself to justifying combos and powers of other disciplines, a discipline that is mastery of the blood and introspection to ones own vampiric condition beyond just the body, but the substance of the curse itself as expressed in blood (but stopped short of death and the abyss.) It makes it a viscerally magical, earthly oriented study with supernatural implications. Not an esoteric study that relates to mundane blood.
Which, again, just reinforces what they were trying to do with introducing Combo Discipline powers; combining two different levels of mastery to introduce new utility and access to powers that previously were limited purely and exclusively to vampires of generations between 7 and 3. Something that could bring even a generation 13 vampire close enough to go toe to toe with a methusalah, with enough time and self-mastery and knowledge of what one is capable of.
