carlos absolutely made a huge song and dance about 'oh i'll have to be careful during each practice session but i'm gonna muster all the strength i can to do this race'
alex literally had respiratory failure requiring intubation after his appendectomy and he didn't make that big of a deal of coming back to drive...to singapore nonetheless
Tumblr media
Oh absolutely 🫱🏻‍🫲🏻 And I feel like the comms/pundits only furthered that narrative? I get it, it was a shock, he had to miss the race in Saudi and I'm sure it wasn't a pleasant experience to go through appendicitis and surgery and recovery but yeah, I feel like Alex wasn't given half this fanfare of a triumphant comeback. It's like people want him to be the unlikely hero, the underdog story against Max or even Charles, it's A Lot.
He has an infuriating ability to be in the right place exactly at the right time and have the team rally around him as a result. Some people were worried about how his departure from the team would impact team dynamics this year, guess nothing has changed though🤷🏻‍♀️

Okay, I was just thinking about a legal justice plotline in S3(meaning Wilhelm and Simon essentially having legal proceedings against August) and I don't think that we will get this in S3 at all but it's really really interesting to think about nevertheless.
Because usually in queer stories, coming out solves all the problems like a magical, fix-it-all solution and the mains live happily ever after. But YR heavily leans on realism and even if the S2 ending is an ambiguous but fitting ending for a queer show (sort of a coming out montage), it does not work for this show.
It has been repeatedly said by the cast and crew that Wilhelm's problem is not being queer, it's being a prince. The systemic traditions weighing on a person who can't even grieve his own brother without being shoved into empty traditions and a PR machiavelli. A person who cannot even fall in love with another person without a thousand worries crossing his mind in every move. A person who tried to confide in his own cousin but his privacy got shattered in front of the whole world instead. It's not that Wilhelm being queer itself is a problem. Instead the domino effect it would bring to people around him is the problem. And that's why it was such a task for Wilhelm to get his mother on board for the idea of a relationship with Simon- because everyone (and it includes Kristina) will try to enforce the heteronormative narrative again and again on him, pretending like his feelings don't matter because in the end, it's easier for them. It's easier for them to live in their centuries-old metaphorical gilded cages and try to enforce the traditions on the royal family itself because the monarchists and the rich (old AND new) thrive under the "stability" the monarchy provides to their social stature and their bulging pockets. Even August's motivations towards the crown are two-fold: he's not only in a constant want of power, but he is also a firm believer in continuing traditions and he directly benefits from the monarchy running as it is. And having the power in his hands will let him ensure that his own estates and rich-people solidarity is never threatened again.
But Wilhelm emerges as an anomaly in the system- he will not tie himself down to hollow traditions. And it threatens everyone's stability, which leads to the denial- and the swirling wave of change calms down. But then Wilhelm starts refusing all the traditions and eventually retracts the denial- and the wave hits all of them like a storm.
And Wilhelm trying to seek justice through the legal machinery is not only very poetic (a prince trying to seek fairness in a democratic system because the monarchy inevitably fails him), but it will also rock the boats of so many people. They will finally get to understand that rich and powerful people also have consequences for their actions and their safety nets can blow away no matter how much money they throw away to keep themselves afloat.
I can understand one argument that August is also young and maybe legal consequences will be a bit extreme for him. But, like, any other common person will be blown apart by the system despite being innocent, why is he any exception? If human lives have equal value, why their actions should be treated differently? I would still like August to have a chance at a realization of the severity of his actions rather than facing legal consequences, but I also do want him to face the legal mechanism or atleast face the fear of having legal consequences for his actions. These two things can co-exist. Simon can easily be torn apart because of the whole dealing thing, and no one would come and save his ass for it. It's the biasness for me.
Overthrowing the monarchy or letting August have a redemption arc is just not possible in a single 6-episode season. It will simply be unnatural to the progression of the story. However, atleast in my head, Wilhelm and Simon seeking justice through a legal system can bring the consequences into action without the added labour of scrapping away a deeply rooted institution or changing the way a person's psyche works.

A prediction for ACOTAR 5 about the Valkyries and the Illyrians
Coming atcha from the middle of my post-HOFAS reread of ACOSF.
(HOFAS spoilers after the break)
From ACOSF, ch. 38, when Gwyn is telling Nesta and Emerie about Mind-Stilling:
"It involved deep breathing and becoming aware of one's body, then learning to let go. They [the original Valkyries] used it to remain calm in the face of their fears, to settle themselves after a hard battle, and to fight whatever inner demons they possessed."
"Illyrian warriors do no such thing," Emerie murmured. "Their heads are full of rage and battle. It's only gotten worse since the last war. Now that they're rebuilding their ranks."
What if the rebirth of the Valkyries, under Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie, will have a direct positive effect on the Illyrians as they contend with the discovery of their origins as creations of the Daglan?
The whole second half of ACOSF, culminating in Gwyn and Emerie winning the Blood Rite and achieving the Carynthian rank and Nesta the Oristian rank, has woven into it the idea that the Valkyries reborn, under the training and tutelage of two Carynthian Illyrian warriors in Cassian and Azriel, are not quite Illyrian in technique and not wholly Valkyrie in technique, but something completely new that blends the two.
But what if, it's not only the new Valkyries that are going to benefit from the cross-pollination of fighting techniques? What if, as Azriel inevitably contends with his loathing of his own Illyrian people in ACOTAR 5, and clearly Nesta has been set up in HOFAS to play a big role in ACOTAR 5 as well (and with Nesta comes Gwyn and Emerie) — what if part of how both Az and, by extension, the Illyrians as a whole, come to terms with the fact that they were created to be almost monstrous soldier grunts for their even more monstrous Daglan overlords, and overcome the negative effects of that heritage, is to absorb the healthier approach to fighting and battle espoused by the Valkyries?
What if Az, with the Valkyrie trio and Cassian, help the Illyrians in part by showing them there is another way to be a warrior culture that doesn't cause harm to themselves (vis a vis misogyny and a rage-fueled approach to fighting), a la the Valkyries?
It seems both groups — Illyrians and Valkyries reborn — stand to gain and learn from each other, and it seems like the set up for ACOTAR 5 is the perfect opportunity to tell a story that features a symbiotic relationship between these two cultures.
(I also both wish and predict in tandem with this healing process that past clippings of female Illyrians' wings, centering Emerie but radiating out to them all, get healed and reversed through some intense creative (firstlight core under Ramiel?) magic. 👀)

My prediction:
She burns the lover house down, the wildest dreams imagery of her in the bed transitions to a ttpd set, she then does surprise songs in ttpd outfits featuring a maybe new piano? then does the midnights set to close out the show. (A few regular setlist songs might get cut, I have thoughts on this as well)
Eras tour merch store comes back online after the first show featuring new eras merch that features ttpd.
Ttpd merch goes online and is very lyric heavy, which is why we don’t have it yet.

Are you ready for Arcane season 2. I feel like everyone else has forgotten it’s happening 😭
Oh man, I think about Arcane season 2 at least once a day LMAO. If I start reading tweets about it or discuss theories with my friend, I'll lowkey start tearing up and get so excited. Arcane in general is probably one of the things I love most in the entire world, at least right now. I'm a little worried about season 2 though from what I've heard already and from what I know about League of Legends lore, but I'm still absolutely certain it's gonna be top tier. For instance, my favorite character is Jayce, and again, from what I've heard and from what I already know, it's pretty likely that he's gonna turn into an asshole in season 2… And I'm very much not looking forward to that 😔 Also, it's a little sad to hear people say that "the arcane fandom isn't very active right now" but I do also get why that is. A lot of the artists I follow for Arcane stuff are also drawing Spiderverse stuff at the moment, like I am. But like I've mentioned multiple times, I'm definitely drawing more Arcane stuff again, sprinkled in amongst everything else!
But yeah, the little circle of people I hang out with and engage with on social media for sure hasn't forgotten about it! We're all super excited, but it is a little hard to keep being super excited it when we've barely been fed any crumbs for the past 2 years, y'know 😅 Spiderverse is a little newer and more engaging in that regard, at least. Thank you for the ask though, I love getting to talk about Arcane!

What do you think of Charles’ helmet because I’ve seen people that it’s confirming he is staying while him thanking Ferrari is his sign that he is leaving?
Hello!
Over the years Charles has kind of established a little personal tradition of making tribute helmets to team members at the final race of the season. I think it's something he's done since he joined Ferrari in 2019 (with 2020 being a notable exception but still on theme with the Sebmet 😭)
I can understand why people see a kind of finality in "grazie Ferrari," but I don't think it necessarily means he's leaving or anything—hell, if he announced he was, I think he'd win silly season. But more realistically I think it's just way of continuing the tradition, thanking his fellow team members for the work they did over the season, one that he admitted was "difficult" and "disappointing" on his side.
More broadly though he's already looking ahead to 2024 and clearly expects the team to step it up a notch. Obviously nothing's clear until testing, or even the first race, but there have been hints here and there that the team will move to build a car that has characteristics that are more to Charles's liking, one that's more malleable and responsive in terms of set-up, which has been a massive problem this year. So, no, I don't think it's an indicator that he's moving away from Ferrari—if anything people have been comparing the 2022 team photo to the 2023 team photo and how blatant the rift between Charles and Mattia was at the time versus how Fred put a hand on his shoulder. Maybe it's just optics, but it's stuff like that (plus the quotes from Elkann's recent interview) that shows how bad it must've gotten internally last year. Many people believe that was the closest Charles got to walking away from Ferrari, and that it really came down to keeping Binotto or losing Charles. So I think he's going to stay where he is, certainly for 2024.

You guys want to hear my darkest prediction for Trial 3? It involves Es and what happens after all 10 prisoners received their final judgements.
Of the 10 prisoners, Yuno, Shidou, and Kazui are the only 3 that have gotten 2 Innocent verdicts. If Milgram operates on a 2/3 verdict decides their fates, even if these 3 are voted Guilty in Trial 3, their previous 2 Innocent verdicts would save them from punishment. It’s the other 7 prisoners who have received a Guilty and an Innocent verdict who’d have to worry about a 2/3 system. If only the third trial verdict matters (because these music videos are supposed to provide the final context for each respective murder), then all 10 have to worry about their third verdict.
The dark theory is more or less based on this: what if our votes don’t matter to Milgram? Milgram has a very black and white view on forgiveness and condemnation. Jackalope has said in both pre-trial videos that they are all murderers in Milgram’s eyes, and he has quipped that if he were in Es’s shoes, he’d vote them all Guilty for the ease of it. The purpose of the Milgram shock experiment was to see how far participants would go to obey authority even if it conflicted with their morals. What if the subject of the experiment is Es, but not in the way we assume?
Discussion of the death penalty under the cut:
This entire time, we’ve been debating and voting on whether we think each murder is unforgivable or not, but we’ve also been growing attached to the characters and Es’s lack of individual personhood has been demonstrated in both trials so far. When prisoners push too close to Es’s past or present responsibilities as Milgram’s warden, we’ve seen Es fall victim to debilitating migraines or fall back into the role of a cold, distant, superior warden.
I think that regardless of Trial 3’s contents, the last song we will hear is going to be sung by Es. It makes sense in a bookends fashion. Milgram started with Es’s song and it will end with Es.
I think that Jackalope is going to tell Es at the end of the third trial that Milgram has sentenced all the prisoners to death, regardless of their verdicts, because of their murders. Es will either have to administer the death penalty, or have the choice to accept the death penalty in their place.
Will Es’s attachment to the prisoners and moral compass prevent them from carrying out the order? Yes. At least, I fucking hope the answer is yes. If Es is going to be forced to administer the death penalty (will they obey the ultimate authority or go against Milgram and try to save the prisoners), I think they would try to race against the clock to help the prisoners escape.
I lean more towards Es having the option of taking their place and accepting the death penalty. They announce to the prisoners that they will be released and when someone asks what happens to them, they will answer that they will die. Es is a pragmatist and when faced with kill one over ten, they will go for the one that saves more lives. Even if Es thinks that some may deserve the death penalty for their crimes, it’s clear that they think some of the crimes committed are forgivable and their integrity will keep them from sentencing them all to death. Es retreats to the interrogation room to die, and the prisoners try to stage a rescue so Es can escape with them. We still get an escape song, just with a rescue thrown in.

NGL I'm hoping @v@ beats the shit outta Tubbo and takes him down several pegs. His lack of empathy for other people on the island - especially when other parties are victims in their own right - is a huge flaw. His arrogance, and refusal to think outside of black and white view points, will be his undoing, mark my words.

Some theories, thoughts, and answers to questions that are in the works that I need to attempt to write out sometime, but probably won’t until I eventually reread Hollowpox on my eternal reread:
What led Squall to try and revolt? Was it a decision by himself, with others, or was there a third party involved? What is true and what isn’t?
What is the fallout and aftermath of Mog’s actions at Courage Square, and what might her future as a budding Wundersmith in Nevermoor look like?
Christmas Eve: is it a Distraction, is there a Ghostly Hour involved, is it related to the Massacre, and how could it relate to modern Nevermoorian religion and Squall’s exile and Eventide activities?
Maud: does she have a knack or some sort of power, how and when does she use it, what is her dynamic with Squall based on, and why is he so scared of her?
Miscellaneous Silverborn Masterpost additions, on a rolling basis as I (or anyone else!) thinks of things.
