To be honest I always felt like one of the biggest tragedies that happened to Mickey Mouse is how he tends to be treated less of a character and more of a mascot for Disney.

And to be honest, Disney really is to blame here. I can't really blame people for seeing Mickey as a shallow boring mascot when their only exposure to him is him smiling on a t-shirt or coffee mug or maybe seeing an extremely sanitized version on a pre-school cartoon.

As someone who loves cartoon characters, I like to see them get to be themselves. And while a lot of other cartoons fade into obscurity, Mickey has a unique fate where he is still here but him as a character tends to fade instead. We were lucky to get the Rudish cartoons which helped breath life into him and really show that he can be a fun character even if it is a more exaggerated version of him. But it seems like that era is starting to end and I am not sure what will come afterwards.

And with earlier versions of him going into Public Domain soon, I know that we are going to see quite a few takes of him. I know many of those takes are coming from people who see Mickey as a stand in for all of the bad things Disney do and will probably portray him as an evil capitalist or some kind of monster. Which is whatever, I'm not going to be upset about people making their own art on their own feelings (though personally I think the joke got old after everyone tried to copy South Park and Simpsons for the millionth time in a row).

But I also feel like this is a chance to reclaim Mickey as return him as a character. Let him get to be a character with flaws and goals and not just a smiling face on merchandise. It would be nice to get some official Disney projects too. But if Disney won't, we can do it ourselves.

Totally random Disney z-o-m-b-i-e-s theory after happily snorting my way through the trilogy again.

Seabrook was totally cut off from the rest of society after the nuclear reactor went off, deemed a hazard area due to radiation. The town was basically left to fend for itself, and was eventually forgotten about in attempts to cover up the incident. But, with a bit of extra-terrestrial assistance in the form of Aunt Angie, Seabrook worked well enough as it’s own self-sustaining Utopia ecosystem before everything went down, and no one ever actually noticed the abandonment. To them, nothing was wrong, and they simply don’t get tourism anymore due to the zombie problem.

‘Mountain College’ is still in Seabrook, just a bit further away and at a higher altitude. This also explains why there’s seemingly only one college? Those who graduate don’t actually leave town to pursue jobs elsewhere, but go right back into Seabrook’s cycle of life to start it all over again. The only other rival school present is just another offset of Seabrook, since the town was presumably pretty large before the accident if it needed so much power. Easy enough to believe there was more than one school before everything went down, since we only see the parts of Seabrook closest to the z-fence.

It’s pretty obvious Seabrook is the kind of place where everyone knows everyone, and it’s also clear that most just stay in town without much interest in leaving it. To them, Seabrook is the world, and everything is perfect.

Now, IMAGINE.

Somebody (or a group of somebodies) from outside the contamination zone notice the strange lights near the coast when the aliens arrived, and come to investigate the rumors of a haunted, forgotten town ravaged by disaster over 50 years ago. Only, as they fall through the thick forest, they end up in a perfectly functioning Seabrook (exactly as over the top as in film). This is not only a shock to the outsiders (who are modern, normal human beings living in 2022), who are blatantly weirded out by everybody and everything. But also to the townspeople, who slowly realize that they were basically abandoned by society years ago, assumed dead, and now they have to live with the knowledge that their world is…well…fictional.

I feel like Addison would have a really hard time with this concept based on her personality type. But I dunno. Let me know what you guys think. Viable theory? Or just a fun AU? ;)

Since I'm in a Disney space due to HSMTMTS, what about some crack pairings between Disney princesses:

Mulan/Elsa or Jasmine/Belle?

I'm going with Jasmine/Belle. I never watched Frozen, so I don't know Elsa, for one. But also I think Jasmine and Belle could be cute. They could go on adventures together as a way to get some distance from their routines and I think they'd play off each other nicely :P

oya also quick non-spoiler Wish review, because even though I talk/reblog a lot about TWST on this blog, I am an overall Disney enjoyer as well. c:

Disclaimer: I keep my expectations extremely low when I consume most media, even if people tell me if it's good or if I'm hyped for it. It's how I've approached most media in the last several years and I find it's the most healthy way for me to consume it. andIfixitallwithheadcanonsandfanfictionanywayifIdon'tlikeitlol

Wish was very cute and pretty, but I think the people that would enjoy it the most are Disney fans who have watched a lot of the classics and the catalog. It's filled with references, and it's a callback to older movies, in both style and a lot of its plot.

Otherwise if you go in with only a few Disney movies under your belt or if you don't care for Disney movies, it probably won't be as enjoyable.

(Also there is an after credits scene. It's short, but sweet, and if you're a Disney fan, definitely sit around to check out the scene!)

I'm not saying no one else has ever seen this and commented on it but really when you're up against this Jim is almost a positive force. Like okay whatever it wasn't seen as unacceptable "for the time"

But when I was a kid I was unaware of the racism in the song and music video for Lazy Town and I genuinely loved the song because then too(I grew up in Australia and we don't do racism like America) but even as a kid I even thought it was weird that only the black guys and animals were putting up the tent and then never seen again.

I legit think it was Mother Gothel's dumbest idea to tell Rapunzel her birthday.

Like dude you could have told her literally any other date! And then she wouldn't soo much have the longing to "go see the lights". No "I can't help but feel... they are meant for me." She would have the curiosity, even miss the lights on most years just become they were a "random phenomenon" or something.

(Rapunzel wouldn't have left for the lights then... she'd have still left for something else... but anyway...)

Gothel could have prevented the entire tangled movie from happening. Isn't that what you wanted Gothel?

I pointed this out in a Discord server I'm in and thought Id share here:

Bob Iger announced that Disney is going to absorb Hulu, and Hulu will no longer exist next year. All shows will move to the Disney+ app.

Disney also announced they were going to remove shows and movies periodically from their streaming services.

I believe both of these moves are because of the Writers Strike.

Disney knows its going to lose the strike. There is too much public support. Specifically, the WGA is going to win writers getting more residuals from streaming.

So if Disney takes shows off of streaming, they dont have to pay the writers the residuals.

They are going to use excuses like "not enough funding for the server capacity" or "not enough views to warrent keeping the show". These are BULLSHIT. Its all greed. Its only GREED.

Pay attention to what happens in the following weeks.

And keep supporting the writers' strike.

the way that luke tried so hard to get percy to join him in comparison to him plotting percy’s death via scorpion in the books is tbh so so good for story building. percy doesn’t understand luke’s motivations this early in the story so seeing luke beg percy and try to get him to understand is just so painful and makes the betrayal hit so much harder

It's funny how Disney loves to milk the hell out of their franchises and have been adding a lot of lore and expanding the "universes" of their franchises...

And yet when it comes to Mickey Mouse, the company mascot with probably the most amount of merchandise and reach, his lore is probably the most obscure where even many Disney fans don't really know many of the canon characters outside of the Sensational Six, the Ducktales characters, and a couple others like Clarabelle, Horace, and Chip and Dale.

Really shows how fandoms are welcome to change, as long as it's GOOD change, considering how different the amusement park scene was in the show vs the books. It's nowhere close to the book scene but we are all FOAMING at the mouth over it. It's not change that makes a movie adaptation bad, it's the way you handle it and the way you show complex character arcs that can't be shown on a screen the way it can be on a page

Percy’s face when Sally mentioned Grover playing a role in getting him kicked out of school…

The way his face scrunches up really tight before relaxing? That’s anger.

But not the kind of anger we see in him in the last episode.

This is the kind of anger that makes you cry. The kind that’s underpinned by embarrassment and hurt and feeling like you’ve been treated unfairly.

Percy knows he didn’t push Nancy into the fountain and he thought that, if anyone would have his back, it was going to be Grover. And then he didn’t. And it’s unfair to Percy. It’s Wrong. Because no one believes him, apparently not even his best friend.

And the way he closes his eyes and takes a really deep breath? That’s a tactic that’s literally recommended to stop yourself from crying when you’re angry. It allows your body to “catch up” with your mind.

What do you wanna bet that Percy learned that from a school counselor?
