My Sketch of Woot (the OG main protagonist of Disney’s Dinosaur)
Here is my full body sketch of the original main protagonist from Disney’s Dinosaur; Woot the Styracosaurus. Woot was the original protagonist from the original 1986 concept and script by Phil Tippett and Paul Verhoeven. In their original version, the story had a darker and more violent tone and was told in the style of a nature documentary.
Now as for my sketch of Woot, he’s different from other Styracosaurs as he has a bigger and thicker horn and is 30 feet long (while other styracosaurs are up to 25 feet long).
Can you explain more the fight between Aladar and kron?
(Gladly)
It's a given that when you have to go against an opponent/attacker who dominates you in terms of size, brute strength, combat experience, let alone that they're completely keen on bringing you down. You go for any opening, you seize any opportunity to hit blind or weakness spots, as they're your only chances of getting away, sensibly you do not have the luxury of waiting for a hit & then giving a hit, because yours wouldn't hold as much power. You just don't have the luxury of holding back.
Now that's for somebody who is actually in for a fight. What I admire about Aladar is that regardless of him realizing all of those things about him & Kron, he didn't take any given openings to smack Kron with his tail or scratch his eyes, even though he could've (at least when Kron went to the ground, right before he threw dust in Aladar's eyes).
On the other hand Kron, believing in (survival of the fittest) to the core. Wasn't thinking twice before taking any opening to literally crush Aladar. He seized being the upper hand of that fight like his life depended on it.
And knowing all of those things, when you're IN a fight, and tempted to defend yourself because at this point your best shot of defense is going on the offense!
Aladar chose to not land any kind of hits & only ever pushed Kron away when he was charging at him to attack. That's being peaceful.
Somebody who's harmless is somebody who can't inflict damage, somebody who is peaceful is someone who can inflict damage but chooses not to.
That's the thing about Aladar, he was progressively getting hurt & losing ground during the fight, yet he never went on the offensive, because Aladar wasn't even in for a fight, he didn't have "Dominating Kron & being in the leadership position" on his mind when he was trying to lead everyone safely to the valley, he just tried to get them to safety because it was the right thing to do. Even if it meant getting hurt.
I've read somewhere that the name "Aladar" means "Noble" and I believe it's totally well-deserved for this character.
(Hope this explains a bit better, feel free to tell me if it didn't get through the sought elaboration)
My Sketches of Cain (A scrapped Disney Dinosaur Character)
Here are my sketches of a scrapped character from the 1996 concept and script of Disney’s Dinosaur; Cain. Before we had Kron, Cain was going to be our main protagonist’s rival. However, unlike Kron (who ended up the way he did because of the harsh realities of nature), Cain was portrayed to be more of a selfish and cold-hearted and black-hearted dictator who wanted maximum control, highly possibly like General Woundwort from Watership Down (1978). Cain’s main goal was to rule over ALL herds, no matter the species. With a massive bulky size (possibly 40 to 50 feet long), huge thumb spikes and a serrated beak with frightening teeth-like serrations, Cain was a threatening opponent and could easily kill anyone by ripping open one’s throat with his beak or jabbing his oversized thumb spikes through one’s head. However, Cain only appeared in a 56-panel/19-page concept, and he never appeared in any more concept art after that. It’s possible and believed that Cain was scrapped because with a serrated beak, Cain woulda been too scary for kids.
