I blame @noa-de-cajou for that one
I played A Date with Death by @twoandahalfstudios and Grim/Casper reminded me so much of my OC Ikaku I had to draw him in his outfit
Now I need to make more playthroughs to get all the achievments lmao

Marina abramovic
(artist research)
I found the work of marina abramovic quite interesting to view and to experience.
Her work " The artist is present", is a spectacular performance piece where she sits and stares at whoever is willing to sit and stare at her.
I love the idea of art being able to stare back at us, making us feel a mixture of emotions.
Eye contact, can be so hard to maintain as well while interacting with people, even though it sounds so simple to do. So I love this element of her holding her gaze determinedly, provoke different reactions from the person opposite her.
Tumblr media
Her work, "Rhythm 0" is also a disturbingly spectacular piece too.
She let people do whatever they wanted to her body, for many hours, with acts becoming more violent as the hours went by.
She put herself as an object (like how women can feel) and represented, I feel, toxic masculinity and how power and lack of boundaries can become very dangerous.
Tumblr media
Overall, in my opinion, she is excellent at creating an uncomfortable feeling within people, something of which I feel resonates with my own project work.
(Some work found in book, "The artist body" by Tracey Warr and Amelia Jones.)
EDIT
My use of the word uncomfortable was not intended to be negative. I was conveying how I feel her work is very deep and is heavily thought provoking.

Project : Disrupt
Week : 23rd Oct - 27th Oct
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After learning about risograph printing yesterday, I decided to make a print with my drawings from last week.
I photocopied the drawings from my sketchbook and stuck them on the definition sheet. I layered them on top of each other to create disruption to the image. To broaden the disruption, I broke up a CD and drew the outlines of the shards on the definition sheet. I used the ferderal blue ink for the definition colour.
On the highlights sheet, I focused the highlights on the shine of the CD, the lighter parts of the hair and the guitars on the images. I used orange ink for the highlights, to compliment the blue definition.
I printed my design onto A4 and A3 sheets.

Marina Abramović - Artist Study
Photos from Rhythm 0, a famous 6 hour-long performance art piece done by Marina Abramović in which she lay out a table of 72 items and instruments and stood to let her audience to whatever they wanted to her, with or without said instruments.
Tumblr media
A rose, honey, and perfume sat on the same table as scissors, a scalpel, a gun and a bullet. Beginning tamely, the audience offered her a rose or a kiss on the cheek. By the third hour, her clothes were all cut off, and her neck was cut so that someone might drink her blood. This was the audiences' reaction to her performance, an escalation of audacity and confidence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rhythm 0 is a prime example of an interesting reaction to art, and one that I find particularly inspiring. This form of reaction is inflicted, and I would focus on that idea.

This week I did the Filo Construction workshop.I wanted to make something 3D so have decided to create a horse’s head out of wire. Here is the progress so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made this by weaving plastic coated wire as it is flexible and easy to manipulate.I ran out of dark wire and used silver wire for the rest which I actually prefer. In order to fit in with my theme of disruption I think I will photograph it in urban areas to show the juxtaposition/disruption. On the other hand I was thinking of photographing it in a natural environment to disrupt the status quo of my project of having a natural horse in a man made area-by instead having a man-made horse in a natural area.
Since the structure is woven I was also thinking of using small fairy lights within it inspired by the pictures I took of the horses at night.

Frank Auerbach
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frank is a german painter who’s portraits in charcoal and oil paint stood out to me. His charcoal drawings are done as studies before paints. They are full of movement, energy and emotion. In many of them you can see pages that were glued over holes and drawn back into. This shows how aggressively he is drawing.
Tumblr media
His paintings are made of layers of thick paint with very visible brush stokes and texture. Although simple they is very accurate observation used in these pieces. I hope to incorporate similar brush stokes in my future work.

Last week I spent about 3 hours on this stop-motion animated segment as part of my experimentation with the Experimental Animation workshop. It is rough but it was a really good learning experience and quite satisfying to move around the figure I had made around the cardboard spaceship. I also used a bit of what I had learned in the photography workshop I had participated in the previous week when it comes to lighting the space I was working with. Overall I enjoyed the experience and will proceed with working with animation for this week as well.

Disrupt Research 15-11-23
Tumblr media
I visited a dental laboratory on John’s street as recommended by Mary. In the window, there was jar that said it was “selling second hand false teeth”. I went into the building and was given free access to the place by Anthony, the shop owner. He let me photograph his dentures, his workplace and materials.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was let into the back where moulds were poured and cast. Anthony referred to some of these moulds as “dentures in their infancy” and that he doesn’t “make dentures”, he “gives birth to them”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As primary source, this is a goldmine for my project and I was extremely grateful for Anthony’s help. Going forward, I’ll be referencing these photos whenever I create pieces based on gums and teeth.

Week 6
To continue progress from my Adobe workshop I created this video to show the different ways clothes can feel on the body. One of my peers was wearing a neon yellow jumper which worked very well as a green screen so I asked them if I could use this video for my project.
The video was made using Adobe Premiere Pro, I used stock footage I found online as well as my own to edit in how clothes disrupt the body. It was interesting to get to work in a digital way for this project as I have mainly stuck with 2D works as of now.
This video continues to relate back to my theme of clothes and my sensory issues with them. Clothes can sometimes feel soft like the gloves or baby chicks pictured, sometimes too hot like the fire shown or too suffocating and sharp like the knife or broken glass in the video. I also finally found a way to use the song ‘Buying Smokes’ in my work as the audio of the last 30 seconds really recaptures the feelings of stress and panic that come with clothes disrupting the way the body feels.

Disrupt / Reconstruct Workshop
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today I did the Disrupt / Reconstruct workshop. We used the photocopier to layer images, zoom in and zoom out, and change the colour overlays. I’m trying to portray here how the inability to switch off all stems from my phone. I used sketches I had done and also some of my clay pieces from a previous workshop.

Project : Disrupt
Week : 11th Dec - 15th Dec
Last week, I started painting a still image from my guitar smashing film. I wanted to finish up the project using a medium I’m comfortable with, so I used acrylic paint.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to capture the movement of the guitar right before it hits the ground, so I dragged the paint to make a blurred effect.
I plan on cutting around the figure of myself, and sticking it on a collage of album covers that I love, which support the energetic, angry feel of the painting.

Research and Exploration sketchbook pages on the sheep bones, spiderwebs, and teeth/dentures. This was a visual response to the different horror-inspired sources I've been researching this term. As a part of this research, I was hoping to use the sheep teeth moulds I made in the clay workshop, however I haven't been able to retrieve them from the kiln yet. Texture was a key inspiration in this study, regardless.
