Thanks, Dad, you caused me to develop an introject of Mr. Spock. I haven't actually watched all that much Star Trek myself (yet; I intend to remedy that).

I'm being a little sarcastic, but honestly I laugh about it more. Mr. Spock is great. Both my parents were Trekkies. My dad was deeply inspired by Mr. Spock. I think it's why I have to refer to him as Mr. Spock. I can't bring myself to call him by his name only. It feels wrong somehow.

I was thinking about The Logical Vulcan Bowl Cut, and T’Pring’s absolutely gorgeous hair, and the fact that any choice a Vulcan makes has to have at least the plausible deniability of logical reasoning behind it, and what that all means regarding the idea of personal expression within a society that does value aesthetics to a degree but does not value emotions.

So. Headcanon that, for Vulcans, engaging in an intricate grooming ritual like putting your hair into an elaborate hairstyle or applying makeup is considered a form of meditation.

For one, it’s creating art that is inherently temporary-hair will be unbraided, makeup will be removed-similar to sand mandalas.

Additionally, due to the diligent care taken to disconnect from their emotions, it is not uncommon for some Vulcans to also experience a mild dissociation from their bodies during times that they are working extra hard to disconnect from their emotions, and this form of meditation serves to help reconnect the mind and the body by placing focus on the physical act of personal maintenance.

If someone very suddenly starts engaging in this sort of ritual, it can be a sign that they’re going through a difficult time-that is to say, experiencing something that threatens to elicit a strong emotional response, either positive or negative, which requires an increased level of disconnection. It’s just as common to see someone taking extra care on their hair or makeup following the birth of a new child as it is following the death of a parent.

It’s largely considered rude to comment on or inquire about this-it is instead taken as a sign that this person is acting responsibly and engaging in the necessary meditations to maintain their control.

T’Pring is serving absolute cunt at her wedding because she’s been suppressing her very strong feelings about Not Wanting To Marry Spock and Being In Love With Stonn and Hoping Stonn Doesn’t Die and Feeling Kinda Guilty About This But What Else Can She Do.

This woman is going through it, and everyone can tell. But the people around her just assume she’s basically got the Vulcan equivalent of pre-wedding jitters-suppressing affection towards her partner, and/or concern over her first experience of Pon Farr.

Similarly, Spock wears makeup every day as a more mild form of this ritual because he’s pretty much always working way too hard to suppress his feelings and Kirk is Right There and he loves him So Much and then he feels bad for loving him but That’s A Feeling Too, Fuck.

Found another fairly completed WIP, this one set post Elaan of Troyius.

"Jim!" Leonard greeted as the captain strolled into medbay. "Take a seat, would ya?"

Jim did as he was told. "Everything alright, Doctor?"

Leonard ran the tricorder over him. "I dunno, Jim, you tell me."

"You called me down here, remember?"

"I did," McCoy agreed.

"So?" Jim shrugged. "Where's the fire?"

Leonard folded his arms over his chest. "I'm not buying Spock's antidote."

"Is that so?" Jim asked, looking at the ground.

"It is. I know what this ship means to you, but I don't buy that it was enough to overtake some alien infection."

"And what do your instruments say on the matter?"

"They agree."

"Do they now?" His voice was flat and empty.

"'Love potion' is a very unscientific way of saying 'altering the body's biochemistry'. You're giving off some unusual readings here. Not as bad as they would have been right after the infection, I'm sure. But certainly not normal."

Jim nodded slowly. "So it wasn't my fault?" He asked quietly.

Leonard's face fell and he set aside his scanner to put a had on Jim's arm. "No, Jim, of course it wasn't."

"I should've known better-"

"How?" Len challenged. "Did anyone tell you what the ambassador said about the tears?" Jim shook his head. "Then it can't possibly be your fault. If anything…it's my fault. I should have warned. And for that I'm sorry, Jim."

"You didn't have any reason to suspect she'd try anything-"

"That doesn't mean I couldn'a warned you. But playing the blame game isn't going to get us anywhere. Are you okay?"

"I would've said 'no', Bones."

"I know, Jim. I know," Len answered softly.

"I wanted to- I tried, but… it was almost like dissociative, you know? I was just...trapped in my own body and I couldn't do anything. Not anything she didn't want anyway." Len sat next to Jim and rested his hand between his shoulders. "I tried to tell her it was wrong, but she kept saying it was what we both wanted. I wanted to push her away, but part of me was afraid to hurt her, and the other part… I wanted to get away, but it was like something else was controlling me. Like I was just a puppet."

"In a sense, you were. You're human, Jim. It affected you differently than it would have one of her own species. As a species they've adapted to those chemical changes in their bodies to be normal and probably even necessary. But you're not one of them. Your body wasn't prepared for that kind of reaction."

The captain gave a small nod and continued his staring contest with the floor. "Would the antidote do anything at this point, doctor?"

"It'll bring your body back to it's usual equilibrium. The human body is incredibly resilient and it's moving that way anyway, but the antidote will speed up that process."

"You have it on hand?"

Len nodded. "I do." He stood and picked up a loaded hypospray from the table near the bed. Jim tilted his head away and winced a little at the injection.

"Thanks, Bones," he said quietly.

Len sighed. "Look at me, kid."

Jim raised his watery eyes to Len's face.

"The antidote is only good for fixing your biochemistry. The rest is going to take time. It's going to have ups and down just like healing from any traumatic event would. So don't expect all this to just...go away because I gave you a shot. Be kind to yourself, alright?"

Jim ground his jaw and nodded. "Doctor's orders?" He tried to tease with a faltering smile.

Len brushed aside a stray tear with this thumb. "Doctor's orders," he agreed. "Come 'ere, kid." He tugged Jim into his arms and held him tightly.

Jim melted into Len's arm. "Sometimes, part of the healing process is to grieve," Len advised softly. He hugged Jim tighter when the younger man's tears began to wet his shirt.

Several minutes passed before Jim sat back with a sigh. "Thanks, Bones," he said, already sounding calmer.

Len gripped his shoulder. "Do you need a few days leave?"

Jim shook his head. "I'm alright. I'd like to keep this between us, as much as possible though."

"Of course. Whatever you need, just let me know."

"I could do with a drink, if you're offering."

"I think I can fix you up some cocoa."

Jim chuckled tiredly. "I had a feeling you might say that."

"Your system's outta whack as it is. I'm not givin' you anything to unbalance it further."

"I suppose that's fair," he sighed. "Thanks for lookin' out for me, Bones."

"That is what you keep me around for. C'mon. You can stay with me tonight."

(I'm a certified spock having alien biology/retractable dick enthusiast)

So I had a weird dream a couple days ago. Jim was part of some race called the worldbuilders. They had powers similar to the Q except the could like build entire realities, planets, star. They reproduced asexually by shedding portions of their dna across the universe and it's contracted by an unborn gestating fetus (kinda like pollination/ or that one TNG episode but with the forced impregnation since the host is already pregnant) it’s entirely random and causes no harm. At a certain age those children begin to manifest abilities and eventually once they reach a type of enlightenment the unlock kinda neural connection to other world builders and their vast knowledge (kinda like an Avatar state spirit world kinda thing). (Also once a world builders DNA is absorbed by a fetus the world builder has immediate access to the future of their offspring)

So Jim with all of his traumatic bullshit his powers start manifesting early and he accidently builds a separate reality (just a big open meadow)that he escapes to occasionally but he thinks it's a form of dissociation and doesn't know it's an actual place he's made. And one day spock shows up there and Jim thinks it's bc he's lonely and he's started to dissociate having a friend and then he grows up and goes to starfleet and sees spock for real. A bunch if stuff happened the dreamgot a lil fuzzy and weird at some parts.

But this is just kinda what part of the dream looks like. Theres also this speech spock gives to Jim at this one part and it made me cry when I woke up. It was a really nice dream.

Spock stopped by, which…was a bit of a surprise, I’ll admit.

The poor guy was so awkward I swear the tips of his ears were turning green. Though I have to say it’s hard to watch Spock try to be social and not be cheered up.

He told me he wanted to bring me his report in person, but he did stay long enough to lecture me about chess strategy and let me make him an omelet. He even showed me one of the simpler Vulcan meditation techniques. I don’t think I’ve gotten it quite right, but I’m just going to go ahead and assume that’s par for the course for humans. (That’s what I’m telling myself, anyway. Captain’s prerogative.)

He’s…he’s a good man, that Spock.

I consider myself lucky to know him.

I believe, however, that this was said off-the-record and as such don’t see the necessity for a court martial.

It’s - nice, to have the reminder that there are, in fact, many people on this ship I’m lucky to know.

Snw ep 9 spoiler

(In case you dont know how to read tags this is a spoiler post) so uh anyway uh. i normally wait a few days to make sure i know the plot of the episode before i watch it in case it'll take more emotional energy than i have, but i was super duper excited for this weeks episode because i really love the show, so i watched ep 9 of snw without any further information than the blurb

in case you also dissociate horribly with major character death, im going to warn you all now. HEMMER DIES IN EPISODE NINE. it is incredibly explicit, beautifully done, but i feel so extremely hollow and gutted right now and honestly, if i were in a worse place mentally, i would not be doing as okay as i am.

i am going to dissociate for the rest of the day. i want to spare you guys that which is why i am making this post. hemmer dies in episode nine. if you aren't prepared to see that, don't watch it. the only other plot-necessary aspect is la'an asks to take a leave of absence, and spock allows rage and pain to take over and now feels out of control (there's a sweet hug between him and chapel). also sam is incredibly xenophobic towards spock the entire episode even though he's a xenoanthropologist. there's some great scenes in the episode, but overall it's not necessary to watch if you feel you can't watch hemmer die. i hope this post helps a few people.
