I'll marry Caspar. The Kains and the Olgimskys will unite. The Polyhedron, the Bull Enterprise... those were all cruel machines geared to produce utopias. Factories that processed people into ideas. But we'll make a world where people's bones aren't crushed under lofty words.

Diurnal
Pathologic 2 aka choose your mass murder simulator (open for better quality perhaps - who knows how tumblr works)
the day i'll learn to draw marble has not yet come, just imagine a better marble frame i'm not gonna do all the work for you
Bunch of stuff under the cut because i love overexplaining things
References for the hands :') :
Zoom-ins on the good parts so you don't focus on the bad parts:
Mostly I wanted to draw something about how dreadful the diurnal ending is, since most people like to focus on the comforting parts (and i do love the fluff, but y'know). So I just shoved the stuff Artemy chooses to destroy in there, and made him offer them a Panacea, his greatest achievement. Thanks dude that's really gonna help. Daniil is in the middle because he's my blorbo.
The marble frame is a reference to The Marble Nest, seemed fitting for an ending Daniil is stuck in without player agency. Guts in the corner - in steppe lore guts are a symbol for feeling and emotion so I thought it'd be ironic to draw Artemy's love the kin way when he's condemning them. White Whip / Ashen Swish as representants of Twyre as a whole, they seemed like the best candidates since they grow where there's anguish / blood.
And here's the sketch in which everyone's burning to death (gave up on that because I wanted the Plague to be with them and was too lazy to add an executor + adding Plague clouds in the fire sounded like too much trouble). Also the hands next to Artemy's were going to be his Bound, but I didn't have a real reason to put them there in the end (and drawing hands is difficult). Also removed the snake since it was redundant with Daniil already there.
So there you go :)

If you (like me) are an avid enjoyer of P2 's Nocturnal Ending, or actually prefer the Diurnal one and might wonder what the appeal of Nocturnal may be, PLEASE by the love of god read this blogpost. It's SO good: it was thought provoking, really skilled at narrative analysis, and even had a touch of commentary to give on the author's current political and social climate by the time it was written— which, really, feels relevant even now, and outside the US too!

thinking about peter saying he and georgiy don’t see eye to eye anymore. the stamatins experience what they see as their lives work being destroyed (perhaps even feeling what a utopia at all costs means) and when they’re upset about it and struggle to deal with the loss, they’re to some extent left behind. even though the kains cling to their dead so much they end up possessed by them.

the Bachelor is canonically the villain but the way that’s interpreted doesn’t match up well to how he’s supposed to come across. In the remake especially, we see that even the sympathetic residents like Lara and Stakh are. frankly. extremely racist and dismissive of the out-of-town Kin and Artemy’s relationship with them. The outsiders aren’t necessarily any better, but they are clearly contrasted with the redneck townsfolk. They are portrayed as condescending, paternalistic, and begging to be punched in the face but also trying to understand/connect with the Kinsfolk on the same level as the townsfolk. i.e. the Bachelor running out to Shekhen in the Marble Nest, attempting to address Artemy as an equal in the ending, Andrey’s odd relationship to the dancers, etc. The thoughtless condescension of the outsiders shows how bad the town is by comparison.

"The Olgimskys were always the guts: hot, alive, feeding the Town. The Kains were the nerves: spark and potential. People cling to the belly for warmth. They grasp at the nerves to reach beyond themselves. But no one ever dares to touch the bones."
"The bones are your family, I guess?"
"Yes."

That most recent drawing I made was originally going to be captioned with lyrics from When I'm a Dead Boy by AJJ because it's a song I associate with the Diurnal Ending heavily, but I wanna save that for a Polyhedron-centered drawing, if I ever have the energy.
