It's been 2 hours since Jay dropped you off at your penthouse suite since it's a bit late to go to the Yang's mansion and you are not in the mood to talk to your step mother. Things have always been awkward between you and your step mother, Eugene, ever since the day you over heard that she is not your biological mother a few years ago.
"I want the best for my child and I have the right as his mom to choose what is the best for him. Let me send Jungwon to Seattle."
You vaguely heard those words from the outside of your father's office room at the mansion. Luck was on your side because the door was not completely closed which gave you an opportunity to go closer and eavesdrop a bit more.
"He would ask about Serena if she doesn't go to Seattle with him. You know how close he is with Serena."
Your stepmother took a step closer to your father.
"If you have forgotten, Chairman Yang, Serena is your daughter, not mine. All I care about is my own son, Jungwon."
Your eyes widened in shock. You didn't even realize that you were inside the office room standing right in between your father and your stepmother.
"Is that true?"
Silence. Everything suddenly became quiet and the tension grew even more. Desperate for the truth, the lack of response sparks your anger and rage.
"I ASKED BOTH OF YOU IS THAT TRUE, FATHER?!"
Your father only looks somewhere else but you, avoiding your eyes. Meanwhile, your stepmother comes closer to you before she kneels down to your eye level.
"Your father won't give you the truth so I'll be the one to reveal it to you. It's true. I am not your biological mother. Your father divorced her to marry me and she left you to your father."
She paused for a moment and you saw tears forming in her eyes.
"I'm sorry Serena, Jungwon is your stepbrother and not your biological brother. Both of you are not biologically related to each other."
Betrayal was what you feel and despite your stepmother treating you as usual, you found it hard to talk to her like before. You would have your meal a bit early or late depending on the presence of your parents. You learned that Jungwon doesnt know this fact so you keep it from him and put distance between you and him. You know that it would hurt him and it did. But you had no other choice because it hurts you too knowing that both of you are not related by blood.
A week before Jungwon's flight, You got into a heated argument with Jungwon about your change of behavior and attitude towards him.
"누나, did I do something wrong? Why can't you tell me what's happening? Why are you being cold to me? What did I do?
You got frustrated by his presence let alone his questions. So you just decided to ignore him.
"Are you really going to treat me like this? I'm about to be send off to another fucking country and you don't even care about that! What has gotten into you?!"
You got alarmed when Jungwon cursed because he's not the type to swear or use foul language mindlessly. But you were determined to let your ego win.
"Alright. I guess this is it. I hope you will always remember that you were the one that ruined our bonds. Don't try to blame me if I give you a cold shoulder and attitude that's much more worse than you gave me."
With that, Jungwon walked away intentionally colliding his shoulder with yours. He didn't even care to spare a glance at you and just left you heartlessly in front of your bedroom's door.
Those painful memories start playing inside your head and you decide to take a long hot shower to ease the tension and your stress. Because you know well that sooner or later, you'll still have to face your stepmother.
You get out of the bathroom and the clock on your phone reads 2:05 am. You could care less about going to work tomorrow because you don't know how to approach Jay knowing that you might know something crucial about his sister's death.
Suddenly, your phone lights up as a message pops out. It's from your stepmother which kind of caught you off guard. You take a moment to have a deep breath before you open up the message to read it.
Meet me at Dalkomm Cafe in the afternoon tomorrow if you're not busy. I have something to tell you.
You left it  on read for a while pondering whether you should meet your stepmother or not. You don’t even realize that your eyes begin to feel heavy and heavier as minutes pass by. And just like that, you slowly lost your consciousness with your phone on your chest at the bed.
You wake up in the next morning as the sunshine lights up your penthouse suite through the glass windows. Not long after that, the sound of the blaring alarm that you set on your phone is heard. You planned to meet Jay today to discuss something that is related to his sister’s case. But you decided to meet your stepmother first at the cafe that she mentioned.
As soon as you arrive at the cafe, your eyes are immediately fixed on a figure who is sitting elegantly while sipping on a tea or coffee that she ordered. When the two of you meet each other’s eyes, you know that there’s no turning back so you just go ahead and take a seat in front of your stepmother who has been waiting for your presence.
“It’s been a while isn’t it, Serena?”
She greets you with a smile and you find it awkward.
“I’m quite busy today so please cut to the chase, 어머니 (mother).”
You make sure to avoid her eyes at all costs.
“Don’t you think you’re being mean to your mother, Serena?”
As if something triggered you, you scoff and somehow find the strength to look at her eyes.
“Didn’t you mean stepmother? After all, apparently, I am not your child, right?”
Her expression becomes softer as she tries to hold your hand on the table.
“I’m sorry. I really am sorry. I know that you are hurting but so am I. It hurts me that I had to separate Jungwon from you while hoping that you would know the truth someday. Your father not only keeps his secret from you but me too.”
You try to search for lies in her eyes but you couldn’t. Her eyes tell you that she is saying the truth just like at that time. Because her eyes look the same as that moment when she hit you with the truth about not being your biological mother.
“If I ask you for the truth.. Would you still give it to me just like on that day when I learned that you are not my biological mom?”
Your hands get warm when she gently holds it with a firm grip while her eyes looking straight at yours.
“Of course, dear. You deserve to know how your father is such a piece of trash.”
Then she started to explain about how your father married your biological mother and why they divorced.
“Your mother’s name is Seo Gina. She was my deskmate and my best friend during our high school days. I was happy when she got married to your father because his family took care of her when she lost her parents. They were happily married for 4 years until she couldn’t stand his obsession about wanting a male heir for the Young Group legacy.”
Your heart clenched so hard when you heard your mother's real name. It's as if that name has always been close to you despite you never heard of it and barely have memories of your biological mother.
"Was my mom unhappy with her marriage?"
Mrs Yang slowly nodded her head as her reply to your question
"She was very unhappy. She was tortured mentally and emotionally by the intense pressure from the Yang family. So she filed for a divorce and ran away after she left you to the Yang family."
You purse your lips trying to suppress the feeling of sadness and sorrow that you feel..
"So that's why father doesn't really care about me.. He only wanted a male heir and couldn't care less about his own daughter. His own flesh and blood."
Mrs Yang couldn't take it and ran to your side to give you a hug. The hug feels so distant yet so close. Your cold heart feels as if it's melted after a long time yearning for it.
"Listen, here. Your father is a dangerous person. He doesn't control the laws, he is the law itself. I've known you since forever, you are nothing less than my own child. So, I will do anything to protect you and Jungwon. I know it's not easy for you but I need you to trust me on this."
Your stepmother left the cafe after you said that would think about trusting her regarding your past and the information about your biological mother. You begin to pondered a lot about the times when she took care of you and Jungwon. You even remember how she would watch over you from afar when you're playing with Jungwon because Jungwon was too playful and stubborn when he was a toddler.
“I almost passed by this cafe until I saw a familiar Range Rover nearby. I’m glad I come to this cafe.”
You got startled when someone who turned out to be Jay, suddenly popped up in front of you out of no where. and took a sit in front of you which is the seat that was taken by your stepmother earlier.
“You surprised me! When did you arrived here? Aren’t you supposed to be meeting Inspector Kim today? ”
Jay quietly stares at the tea cup that is almost empty which is left by your step mother for a few second before he take a seat in front of you which is the same seat that was taken by your stepmother earlier.
“I guess I won’t have to prepare a surprise for you when my existence itself is a suprise to you. It feels really great though. Is this how it feels like if I’m dating you someday?”
He leaned his body closer to you with both of his elbow on the table as his hands are supporting his tilted head that looks full of dream as he look at your face. You rolled your eyes hearing his sweet nothing words and he chuckled feeling amuse of himself and his confidence to say those words to you.
That’s literally an unofficial love confession and you’re not dumb to not noticed that. But considering the fact that you have something that you hide from his regarding his sister’s death, you’d rather think about yourself first. And it is at this moment that you realised something. Jay is indeed have a feeling towards you and there’s no doubt about that.
“I was just around the corner and I saw a lady exit this cafe. Then, I noticed your car and figured that you could be inside here so now here I am.”
Jay sheepishly smiled before a waiter come to the table and take his iced americano with a croffle order.
“I’m meeting him later around 2:30 pm. So I have about an hour an half of free time right now.”
You nodded your head and stir your half finished iced tea with the straw..
“Who is the lady earlier? She seemed like she’s walking off from your table.”
You abruptly stop drinking the iced tea as you thinking of telling him the truth or make up a lie. But to gained his trust, you know that it’s best if you tell him the truth.
“That is my stepmother. We just had a mother-daughter conversation in here since it’s been a while since we last saw each other.”
Well, half truth half lie sounds not that bad ain’t it? Thankfully, Jay seemed to believe you and you are also saved by the waiter who serve Jay’s order right at that moment, which made him momentarily forgot about what he was going to ask you.
While Jay is having his quick brunch, you just patiently wait for him while getting lost in your thoughts, until the moment both of you exit the cafe.
“Jay.. Can I… Go along with you to meet Inspector Kim?”
Jay turned to look at you who is fiddling with your thumbs.
“Sure! I wouldn’t mind that. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t mind too, so it’s cool.. but why though? Aren’t you busy today?”
I’m sorry for what I’m doing from now on, Jay.
“No, I’m taking a day off today.”
Jay nodded his head realising that no wonder Soobin isn’t here. He was about to ask you if you would like to go by his car or yours until you got a call from your father. And that successfully make you freeze on the spot while looking at your phone screen that displays the dialer contact that reads 아버지 (father).
“You should answer that call. It’s your dad after all.”
You take a deep breath before deciding to pick up at the last minute.
“You do remember what date and day is tomorrow, right?”
Without any greetings or foreword, your father just went straight to the point. What a loving father you have, right? You put the phone away before you got a reminder note that reads
Tuesday, 25 September 2023
Jungwon’s coming home
“Yes. Of course, I remember.”
You replied with a stoic expression on your face.
“Good. You’re going to pick up Jungwon at the airport tomorrow. Your mother-”
Your father cleared his voice to cover up his little slip on his word.
“Stepmother and I are going to Busan for a business meeting. Don’t be late to to pick him up. I just sent you his contact number in case you have deleted his contact number.”
Without any other word, he ended the call leaving you feeling numb.
What do I expect? I’m not going to be the successor of Young Group. I should’ve known where my place is in the family.
“Jay.. I think I won’t be able to join you to meet Inspector Kim. Call me if there’s any information about the case. Let me know about your discussion with Inspector Kim later.”
You just left him to process about what’s happening as you go straight to your Range Rover and drive off to your penthouse suite.
You’re gonna need a warm tea, a long hot shower and a deep sleep to prepare yourself mentally, before meeting Jungwon for the first time, after the whole cold war that have been going on between the two of you.

Mental breakdown strikes again this week that I didn't realise how short chapter 4 is, until I proofread again the whole series from Teaser to this current chapter. I hope the 2k word counts update would make up for the lack of word counts and the late update. 🫶🏻

Name: Blake Scott Age: 35 Occupation: Defense Attorney Time living in Tonopah:  Native, left at 17 and moved back 6 years ago Neighborhood: Glenn Estates Gang Affiliation: Sons of Silence Face Claim: Laura Vandervoort
Biography: (tw: Child Abuse, Rape, Underage Drinking, Drugs, Car Accident, Suicide, Infertilaty, Murder)
Blake was the type of person who was particularly good at pretending like everything in her life was perfectly fine, but there were moments when the brokenness she carried inside showed itself. She tried though not to let it get the best of her. Normally Blake was kind, compassionate and seemingly happy, filling whatever room she was in with unbelievable warmth. Sure, she had biting sarcasm and wit, but she was not mean, unless you gave her a reason to be. That reason usually being that you hurt someone she cared about, and she could go from happy sunshine to freezing tundra in seconds. She was extremely hard to forget with an infectious personality and the constant meals she could push out for any random stranger. She loved deeply and fully, always trying to put her loved ones before her. She would fight tooth and nail for them and be content with those around her being happy even if she wasn’t. Her passions in life fell into just 3 interests: Soccer, art, and all things music.
Born in August of ‘87 to David Scott (at the time a 28-year-old up and coming lawyer, and proud Sons of Silence member) and Hélène Devereux (29 who had been in the middle of her residency at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center), Blake Sara Scott, named for William Blake and Sara Teasdale, began her life. Her parents’ story, at first seemed to crawl right off the pages of a romance novel. Think Princess meets Rebel Without a Cause. At fourteen Hélène’s father, the heir to the Deveraux fortune moved to Tonopah Falls from Paris, hoping to launch an American based winery for the family. Soon after they arrived Hélène met David, just thirteen and already following along in his father’s footsteps. Not only was he on track to law school, but he was also primed and ready to join his father’s side in the Sons. (Something Blake herself would do years later. Joining the club after her 18th birthday. She’d mostly been a member of the Boston chapter and later almost VP of the Seattle chapter.) He was trouble. The kind of trouble that dazzled and enticed Hélène. They quickly fell for each other, dating on and off for the entirety of their high school years. Even picking the same college to attend. Harvard, Hélène was off to Harvard Med and David to Harvard Law. They did not last more than a year together away from Tonopah. Splitting up and finding a way to disappear from each other’s lives. It was not until six years later after both had graduated college and moved back how did they meet again. The next two years had them falling in love all over again, marrying and falling pregnant. With David busy with both Law firm and Gang business, Hélène decided to put off the rest of her residency until Blake was older, telling herself she was okay with being a stay-at-home mom. When Blake was born things were perfect… for the first few months. Hélène began to resent David for still working, and her life as the wife of a gang member. The ‘fairytale’ couple were constantly fighting, and though David thought they’d work through it he woke up one day to divorce and custody papers on the pillow next to his. Along with a threat that should he try for custody she would dredge up everything she knew about the Sons, and strip David of his license and the right to see his daughter ever again. (A move that adult Blake still does not understand) David and Hélène were officially divorced by the time Blake was two and married within the next year. Her father married Scott, a partner at the law firm and Hélène, after returning to her residency at the Sunrise, married fellow resident Kevin Lancaster.
Blake’s childhood felt like a constant heartbreak. Not long after they got married David and Rose moved to Boston, with the orders to start a new Chapter on the East Coast, and her mother’s true feelings about her daughter started to show. She was cold and distant to her only child. Blake strived to be perfect, trying to gain praise of any kind, praise that never came. No matter how smart she was, no matter how talented she was, no matter how polite and kind she was. Her mother never acknowledged it. It didn’t help that Blake was afraid of her stepfather, she hadn’t been able to explain why for years. Then when she was 8, he started hitting her. She tried to tell her mother, but Hélène brushed aside the words telling her to stop being so dramatic and clumsy. She had never told another person after that. The cracks were starting to show though as during her freshman year she turned to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain. Her already fragile world shattered around her near the end of her sophomore year when her stepfather found a new way to break her. After her mother did not believe her when she had said he hit her, Blake had no confidence that her mother would believe her when she said he raped her. One night she was out partying with her friends, drunk off her ass and high as a kite when she decided to do something reckless… more reckless. She stole her mother’s car and took it for a joy ride. A joy ride that ended with her driving the car into the lake. She told people it had been an accident, that she had served to miss an animal. The truth was that she had looked out onto the water and made another decision. She still does not know how she made it out alive.
After that night, and the extended stay in the hospital, Blake knew she could not continue down the path she was on, not if she was ever going to get out of this town and the horrible memories attached to it. Her father also made the decision to move back home, especially after seeing how reluctant Blake was to return to her mother’s house. David told Hélène that she had better hope he never found out just why Blake was so scared of the prospect of living with her mother again, that he would use his now many and more influential connections to make sure she would regret ever giving him the ultimate all those years ago. Something even her money could not save her from. He sued her mother for custody and Blake had never looked back.
When school started back up, she buckled down and actually put effort into her schoolwork. Her grades had only stayed up during the first two years because she had been able to coast on her smarts. Finishing high school as Salutatorian had felt like a miracle to her, the bigger miracle though had been her getting accepted to Harvard. Sure, it meant she got to follow in her father’s footsteps, but it was all the way across the country from her mother and the biggest draw had been the fact that it was a wonderful place for her to get a Law Degree and follow her love of soccer. The next four years of her life were spent doing just that. During college she played on the USWN U-20 Team, and after graduating, and before her three years at Law School, she got to play for the USWNT at the 2008 Summer Olympics. In 2009 she joined the Boston Breakers who she played for until the end of 2012, when she was part of the inaugural season of Seattle Reign. She retired from soccer in 2015 after the USWNT won the 2014 World Cup.
There were many reasons she decided to retire but the biggest one was rotting away in the Pacific Ocean. In her freshman year of college Blake met the man she’d been pretty sure she was going to marry. Michael Weaton. She should have paid attention to the signs. Somehow, she seemed to be following in her parents’ footsteps even more than she’d wanted to. Michael was at Harvard for Med School. It was her parents all over again. The start was different, the paths the same, the end… word’s away from where she imagined. Michael had been by her side since freshman year and no part of her thought that would ever change. Even after their sophomore year when Blake ‘miraculously’, according to the doctor years later, ended up pregnant. Peyton wasn’t his but he had treated her like she was and never showed any signs that he held nothing but love for Blake or her daughter. It wasn’t until she’d graduated school and they’d moved to Washington that the flags she should have noticed became glaringly obvious. Michael wasn’t as nice or loving as he pretended to be. It was almost funny how she’d fallen for a man so like her mother. Able to charm everyone around them and then the moment they were faced with Blake’s love, they turned cold and hateful. She felt like her young self once again, trying and failing to get the respect, love and affection that she so freely gave away. She would have stayed too, especially because while it seemed he had fallen out of love with Blake, if he ever really even had been, he still treated Peyton like she was the light of his life. So, she would have stayed. That was until the night of August 19, 2015, just days shy of her birthday when her life took a turn that she never thought it would.
Since she’d retired from soccer she’d taken up a full time job as a defense lawyer, a job that kept her busy. She hadn’t realized just how busy it had kept her until she’d been standing in the doorway of their house in Seattle, keys in hand and briefcase falling to the floor. He’d brought someone else into their home. Their home that her daughter lived in. She’d never been more thankful that Peyton had been in Tonopah to see her grandparents. After the women, who Blake vaguely recognized as one of Michaels former fellow interns from the hospital, that he’d recently stepped away from; a claim that he wanted to spend more time with Peyton, did he start to give her all the excuses, and ask why she was home so early that night as opposed to any other night that week. The reason had been that she’d been feeling funny and had decided to take a pregnancy test at work. It was positive. That was when a switch flipped, suddenly the fight about Michael cheating morphed into a massive fight about anything and everything. How Peyton was lucky to have him because it would have been awful to be left with just Blake as a mother, Blake who he was certain was one freakout or breakdown away from turning into her mother. Funny given that if anyone was like her mother it was him. He called her unlovable and untrusting, a no good biker slut. So she’d called him an arrogant bastard and he’d thrown a vase at her head. After that things got blurry.
What she remembers most from that night, was the sound of glass shattering around her and a hand gripping her wrist as she tried to leave the room. And red. Her blood slipping down her face from the cuts, and his blood dripping from her fingers as she called her father. Using all the back channels she could, like the burner phone she kept hidden away for club business. Then it was time for the cleanup. A staged storm off, one of the Seattle Sons that could pass for Michael stealing away in the night with his car. Voicemails and texts saying she was sorry and that she wished he would call her. Followed by reminders that she wanted to stay and wait for him so they could talk but that she had a flight to catch the next day. Then ones the following day asking him to at least meet her at the airport. Everything was perfectly laid out, an airtight explanation. He’d returned the next day, packed his shit and left Blake with nothing but a note to Peyton that he loved her. Setting up a timeline to cover the fact that she’d spent the night on her hands and knees scrubbing the blood off the floor and walls and ceiling and that in the dead of the night she’d met up with some of the Sons on some hidden cove along the bay and dumped his body. The GPS on his phone and car laid out the perfect route, after packing his things he’d seemed to make it all the way to Chicago. Where apparently, he lived a quiet life before disappearing three years ago. Michael Weaton was still a missing person, but one who’s disappearance had seemingly nothing to do with his ex-girlfriend from three to four years ago.
Months after Michael ‘left’ her, Blake packed up hers and Peyton’s things and they’d moved back to Tonopah where Blake had been offered a job at her father’s firm. It was just too good a chance to pass up, as she’d tell her neighbors. As far as she was concerned life was going great, she’d made partner and she was doing what she could to keep the Sons out of trouble, her daughter was growing up into a teen that reminding Blake very little of herself, for which she was thankful for… even if she thought she took a little too much after her Aunt Lexie, and a purpose. Now if only she could stop having nightmares about everything she’d gone through, or what would happen if… when people realized Michael had been missing a lot longer than it seemed.
Headcannon:
Blake has three things she’s pretty sure she couldn’t live without: Music, art and soccer. All three had been things she’d picked up from her father and Rose. And none from her mother goodbye
Blake has two younger half-sisters and an adopted older stepbrother. Her mother and Kevin have a daughter named Inés and her dad and Rose adopted James soon after moving to Boston and also have a daughter named Lexie.
Blake likes to think of herself as the Peyton Sawyer, before Peyton Sawyer was ever a thing. Her love of art and music, her grandfather’s 1963 Mercury Comet, her long legs, and curly blonde hair all screamed Peyton Sawyer.
The fact that her daughter was named Peyton Scott was a running joke between her and her sister Lexie.
Blake has two Harleys; one she’d bought as soon as she returned to Tonopah and the other was the one she’d had as a teen and through every move.

Masonry Monday: The Case of the Curious Bride
Rhoda Reynolds will do almost anything to keep her colorful past from her husband and, more importantly, her tyrannical father-in-law. But she won't kill, as she insists when the blackmailer who knows her secret is murdered with her ring in his hand. No believes her . . . except Perry Mason.
Tumblr media
Who's Who
Perry Mason's client: Rhoda Reynolds, a wealthy wife whose past indiscretions have come back to roost
The victim: Arthur "Artie" Kane, a blackmailer whose wealth of knowledge angered more than one person
Suspects: Carl Reynolds, Rhoda's husband, who keeps insisting he trusts his wife despite being dominated by his father C. Philip Reynolds, a rich man who doesn't want a mysterious nurse with a past as his daughter-in-law Dr. Michael Harris, Rhoda's friend, who knows about the blackmail and sends her to Perry Mason for help
The Setup
Carl Reynolds kisses his beautiful wife Rhoda goodbye before heading to work, while a smarmy-looking man watches from a nearby car. Later, he scares Rhoda while she's alone in the house. She tells the man, Artie Kane, that she can't afford to give him the $2,000 he's demanding of her. He gives her until 2 am the next morning to raise it and tells her to bring it to his apartment, even hinting that the former nurse should drug her husband. He also calls her bluff when she starts to call the police.
Elsewhere, Carl watches his father Philip Reynolds skeet-shooting. The elder Reynolds refuses to give his son the $2,000 he's asking for, dong the whole "when I was your age" schtick. Reynolds adds that they've only had each other since Carl's mother died when he was four, but they've fallen out since Carl married Rhoda, whom he knew little of. Carl says he thinks Rhoda married him out of sympathy, as she was once his nurse. Reynolds believes she's after their money and says Rhoda's a little too close to a Dr. Michael Harris. He says neither of them will get his money while they remain together.
At the Beverly Hills Doctors Hospital, Rhoda meets with Dr. Harris, an obstetrician. They discuss Kane's blackmail, and Dr. Harris urges her to tell Carl the truth, believing he can handle it, but Rhoda says his father's the problem. Dr. Harris makes a covert pass at her, saying she should have married him, but Rhoda's not biting. Finally, he gives her the address of Perry Mason's office, saying that, if anyone can help her, the lawyer can.
Enter Perry Mason, Attorney at Law
Rhoda arrives at Perry's office as "Mrs. Crocker" and starts tell him she's here to ask a question on behalf of "a friend." Rhoda says her "friend" was married for a few months to a grifter eight years previously in Seattle. Her husband was supposedly killed in an car accident in Kansas later. Perry accurately guesses that she's since married again and her first husband has now turned up, noting that they used the "money for a fake funeral" dodge. Now comes the big question: Is her second marriage valid?
Perry tells her that, unfortunately, her second marriage isn't valid. She should divorce her first husband and marry her second husband again. "Mrs. Crocker" nervously asks if there's any way her friend can persuade her first husband to leave her alone, but Perry attempts to call her bluff and tells her that "her friend" needs to make an appointment if she wants advice. Rhoda leaves, and Perry tells Della he made a bad call not helping her more. Unfortunately, they can't just wash their hands of it: "Mrs. Crocker" gave Della a $50 retainer, and Perry has to find her now.
When Della goes to sit down, she realizes Rhoda left her purse in the office. Since Rhoda's a client, Perry searches the purse for identifying information, which includes a telegram with Rhoda's real married name on it. Perry calls Paul in and asks him to find out about "Artie," the man who sent Rhoda the telegram telling her not to forget the time of their "date" that night. Paul immediately picks up the phone and obtains the address. Perry arrives at Kane's rooming house, and speaks with a neighbor who says Kane has drunken parties. The building is listed as For Sale.
As he's about to leave, a blonde woman walks out, telling Kane she's giving him a deadline of some kind and that she's working at the Onyx. Perry speaks with Kane, who's wary of the lawyer. When Perry asks about Kane's marriage to Rhoda, Kane immediately picks up the phone to call Rhoda. He hands the phone to Perry, and Rhoda tells Perry to stop interfering and hangs up. Perry picks up a very loud alarm clock and Kane refuses to talk to him, but Perry says that's fine -- he's done all the talking, now he expects Kane to ponder his words.
The Murder
Carl Reynolds is asleep in bed at 1:45 am, with a cup of tea next to him. Rhoda sneaks out, but as soon as she leaves the room, Carl springs up and watches her leave. She runs to the garage and gets her car, then drives off. At 2 am, Rhoda drives the car up to a service station with a flat tire, and the serviceman offers to change her tire for her. Rhoda arrives at Kane's apartment at 2: 10, to his fury, and tells him she wasn't able to raise the money in time.
He decides to take her wedding ring as compensation instead, whether Rhoda likes it or not. There's a ring of the bell, but Kane ignores it. Rhoda grabs a poker from the fireplace to defend herself, but it's not enough to fend off Kane, who attacks her. Their tussle is loud enough to wake the nosy neighbor's dog, and the neighbor calls the police, saying that, "Somebody's getting killed!" The next morning, Paul reads about the "bludgeon killing" in the newspaper, which shows Kane's body, with a large diamond ring in his hand.
Della notes that the ring, which is also pictured, was the same one on the finger of "Mrs. Crocker." Perry says that he doesn't represent Rhoda, as she technically fired him yesterday, but the case against her looks rough. Perry says that Tragg probably has her in custody right now, but Della will take that bet: Rhoda herself is on the phone. Perry speaks with Rhoda, who says she's at the Doctors Hospital. He tells her he's on his way and to stay where she is. He asks Paul to get him the police reports on the killing and to identify the Onyx blonde he met coming out of Kane's building.
In Summation
I'll be honest, this is one of those cases where the motive and guilty party are not all that hard to figure out. I'm still not going to spoil it, but there's only person in the case with a stronger motive than Rhoda to commit the murder.
Case under review, please return later...

REVIEW
Her Deadly Game by Robert Dugoni
Interesting, intricately crafted, intriguing legal thriller filled with many threads to unravel before a clear picture emerges of what really happened to Anne Russo and who fired the shot that killed her.
 What I liked:
* Kerra Duggan: intelligent, tenacious, intrepid, lawyer, daughter, chess prodigy, sister, eager to move forward with her life, has personal-family-work issues to deal with, competitive and in it to win it on her first murder case
* The Duggan family: All of them though the mother, father and sisters played the biggest part in this dysfunctional family with alcohol and alcohol related issues to contend with
* Rossi: detective, honest, diligent, rather taken with Keera in the past and perhaps still…curious about him and wonder if he and Keera might end up together in the future
* The courtroom preparations and trial scenes as they played out
* The way the Duggan family grew on me as the story progressed
* The way the whodunnit played out with clues offered, followed, and the way the puzzle pieces slotted together – and – the big surprise(s) toward the end
* Jack Worthing’s hints and where they led
* The line, “The truth is rarely pure and never simple.” And how it played out in this story
* The chess portion of the story was over my head but did like the idea of it and how it was handled to enhance the story
* How it all came together and was tied up in a bow at the end of the book
 What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC – This is my honest review.
 5 Stars
      BLURB
A defense attorney is prepared to play. But is she a pawn in a master’s deadly match? A twisting novel of suspense by New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni. Keera Duggan was building a solid reputation as a Seattle prosecutor, until her romantic relationship with a senior colleague ended badly. For the competitive former chess prodigy, returning to her family’s failing criminal defense law firm to work for her father is the best shot she has. With the right moves, she hopes to restore the family’s reputation, her relationship with her father, and her career. Keera’s chance to play in the big leagues comes when she’s retained by Vince LaRussa, an investment adviser accused of murdering his wealthy wife. There’s little hard evidence against him, but considering the couple’s impending and potentially nasty divorce, LaRussa faces life in prison. The prosecutor is equally challenging: Miller Ambrose, Keera’s former lover, who’s eager to destroy her in court on her first homicide defense. As Keera and her team follow the evidence, they uncover a complicated and deadly game that’s more than Keera bargained for. When shocking information turns the case upside down, Keera must decide between her duty to her client, her family’s legacy, and her own future.

WHAT IS A CR2A? DO I WANT ONE?
If you are going through a divorce in Washington state, you may have heard the term “CR2A.” You may have been asked if you have a CR2A in place or if you will be getting one – but what is it? Is it important to have? Why does it matter?
A CR2A agreement gets its name from the court rule that authorizes it: WA Superior Court Civil Rule 2A. This rule essentially governs enforceable agreements made outside of court and has different utility for many different types of cases addressed in Washington state's Superior Court.
For a family law case, such as a divorce proceeding, a CR2A agreement refers to a contract between parties to settle the issues of their case. In many divorce cases, this tool is used in the resolution of the dissolution, either at the conclusion of a mediation or settlement conference, in order to ensure the agreement will be honored by the court. If both parties and/or their attorneys sign the CR2A agreement, the terms become enforceable in court, whereas without signatures, it will not uphold in court as a binding agreement.
A CR2A agreement can also be used to memorialize other agreements in the middle of your case, or in post-divorce or other family law cases. The bottom line is that a CR2A agreement, while not the only option, is an effective way to bind both parties to terms of an agreement quickly and efficiently without needing to enter an agreement with the court because once signed, it is usually enforceable.
Your family law attorney should be working closely with you to resolve your divorce or other family law case in a way that minimizes stress and conflict as much as possible and maximizes efficiency. The aim is to resolve your case with a settlement agreement, in mediation or sooner, and prevent the added expense and emotional toll of trial whenever possible. The CR2A agreement is a useful tool in contributing to this being successful.
Do I want one?
The short answer is YES, you likely do want a CR2A. The intention is to prevent one party from “changing their mind” after a settlement agreement is reached by ensuring the terms of the agreement are honored by the court. The hope is to bring closure and resolution to an already challenging and emotionally charged situation, and to bring finality to compromises made. CR2A agreements are enforceable just as final court orders are.
You may have a cordial relationship with your ex-spouse, and perhaps you have come to a verbal or informally written or emailed agreement about the terms of your divorce, custody situation, or child support. You may assume this is fine because everyone is abiding by the terms and nothing has been contentious.
The problem is, there is no predicting when things may change, despite everyone's best intentions. We advise you to ensure that you are protected and that your best interests are preserved. These informal “promises” put you in rocky territory and are not in your best interest. Without a CR2A agreement, whatever loose deal you had with your ex-spouse can be pulled at anytime, regardless of what adverse effect it may have on you and/or your children. The terms of your agreement are not binding and not enforceable by the court without a signed CR2A agreement that spells out those terms.
Legal Representation
Please work closely with a skilled family law attorney who can advise you appropriately and advocate on your behalf. There may be “gray area” questions that arise, such as whether an agreement signed in your living room on scratch paper would suffice, or what about an email train where it appears you are on the same page? Our family law attorneys are highly knowledgeable in this area. We will work with you from the onset to ensure your interests are best protected, or we will advise appropriately and determine the best path forward if there are questions about a prior agreement that was informally reached. We are here to help.

Painful Memories...
Tumblr media
I came across some old photos. Some of my wedding. I can look at these pictures now with less emotion. There is sadness but I really can’t identify with that person in the photo anymore. Does this mean I have detached myself? I remember being there. Have I healed from the wounds that are still painful to mention? This day, more than 17 years ago, was a start of a major trial in my life. Having the courage to work through the pain of recovery has helped give me the drive and tenacity to overcome financial debt and to succeed in school.
My academic journey started back in 1996, academic achievement did not come easy to me in high school, but I wanted to get a good job, so a few years after high school I started classes at Seattle Central College, in Seattle Washington. I then had a child at age 25 and I became a single mom. I am always inspired by women who say that without hesitation, trepidation or feeling less than women who have a partner. When my son was about three years old, I transferred to Bellevue College. They had a work study program where I could work at the school daycare (where my son was) and also work on my career goals, while having my son close. Due to the early birth of my second son on Nov. 27th, I was unable to finish my last two weeks of course work in the fall of 2003. As a result, I received a failed grade in my personal enrichment courses of French 201 and Algebra II. However my GPA for my science classes were within the range they needed to be. But, even so, I had to quit my job and dropped out of college since my son was born two weeks before the final exams.
On the day of the wedding, It was a beautiful, warm day in September 2004, I remember, the kids were dancing and laughing, the lakeside property was gorgeous. I remember my family and friends being around me, it felt like a different life. I don’t like going back in my thoughts. The pain of those memories has become less as time’s gone on. To go from such a happy day celebrating with the person I wanted to live my life with to days later, almost losing my life to this person. This is a story, no one wants to tell. Four days after my wedding, I was a victim of a road rage incident, where I was physically assaulted and (along with my infant son) nearly killed. My husband of four days was charged with reckless endangerment and assault and then arrested. A passerby had seen the incident and called 911. I still can’t believe this happened to me. He never apologized for what he had put us through, we never saw him again except at a distance. I then started therapy for the physical pain that was inflicted on me, the emotional pain would be a much longer process of healing.
When you go through the family court system and testify in front of everyone, what you go through, it is very difficult. After the shock wears off, the shame sets in, it’s hard to talk about. They (the court advocates) encourage you to talk, saying that it saves lives. I felt lost and defeated. I was forced to go through court ordered therapy, which I knew, any invasive findings would be broadcast in court. I had to acknowledge other incidences of abuse that led up to the escalation to the road rage. I was faced with the reality of my own denial of what was happening to me. The excuses I would make to myself. He was just stressed out. Maybe it was a psychotic break? I couldn’t be objective or logical enough to begin to imagine why someone would do such things to a person they profess to love. I didn’t want a stomach ulcer on top of everything else. I was able to get a pro bono attorney for the first trial.  But after my ex-husband went to domestic violence treatment, there was a new trial. This was because, where there is “abusive use of conflict,” the courts don’t allow mediation to settle parenting plans. This put me in financial peril, and I have struggled financially  ever since.
It’s been many years since the assault and arrest. I was vilified and blamed for what caused our separation to our community and friends. According to his account, it was all an exaggeration, a misunderstanding. I heard him say in court that I was crazy, emotionally unbalanced. Especially during the child custody proceedings. I was so afraid of him and what he would do to me. I couldn’t even comprehend fully what he was doing, who he even was. Was he my enemy now? He blamed me for getting him arrested, even though I had not been the one who called the police, but an anonymous stranger did! I felt alone, scared, traumatized. I hated having to go through the court hearings and hear the venomous words coming from him and his attorney. It made me feel crazy, out of my mind. I had to get away, I saw him everywhere, I was always looking over my shoulder. Sudden movements would make me jump. Flashes of the trauma would enter my mind. While driving my car, when I would see brake lights I would tense up and my heart would skip a beat. How could I even co-parent with this person? My Post Traumatic Stress was keeping me from moving beyond what happened to me, keeping me from moving forward. But I knew I had to somehow keep it together and be strong for my children.
After the divorce, I was given permission to move out of state. In 2007, my brother, who lived in Northern Kentucky, offered me a job. Because of this, I was able to move out of state with my children. I am so grateful to my brother for his help in this transition. During this time, my father had entered retirement from the military out on the west coast. He and my mother were planning on moving to Cincinnati to help my brother with his business. The timing of the move was good since we would be able to have the support of my family, during this time of healing and transition. Upon my move, my ex was continuing to file motions at the Seattle court house. I had to hire an attorney, from out of state, to represent me and to respond to every motion filed. Within 5 years, he filed 12 motions that were all dismissed for lack of credibility. Even though he was ordered to pay my attorney’s fees, these orders were not enforced, therefore leading me to incur much debt over the years. With the two divorce trials costing $40,000 and the additional $10,000, my finances were in trouble. I had to ask my parents for help with these huge costs. Two years after the divorce, he stopped paying child support and my daycare costs exceeded $6,000. I had to ask my parents for help with the kids, which allowed me to work more hours to pay my debts. I have been used to working two or sometimes three jobs to get a handle on my finances. In 2015 I was able to receive vocational training so I could earn more per hour.
I am a single parent living in the Cincinnati area for almost 14 years now. After much healing and hard work, I am anxious to continue my academic career goals. I am the proud parent of two well-adjusted young adults and I’ve had much experience juggling work, school and parenting. I also became the caretaker of my grandmother the last year of her life. In which I moved her into my home with my two children. During this time, as I partnered with the hospice care staff, I assisted in many nursing responsibilities. Reflecting back on this now, I feel that nursing is the field I belong in. During my time in Cosmetology school, I took on another caretaking job. I did this while managing my other full-time job. Then in 2018, I enrolled in an accelerated program at the Cincinnati School of Medical Massage. Where we had rigorous course work in A&P and Pathology. I also became a personal care assistant in 2018. I also currently work as a licensed Cosmetologist and LMT, as well as an STNA.
I am happy to say that my domestic partner and fiancé is supportive of my desire to finish my nursing education. Over time I had developed a tougher exterior, not able to readily identify with my feelings. I was so guarded, out of necessity. An armor of survival. I find it more difficult to make friends, especially deep friendships that take invested time and effort. Letting people in feels too high of a risk at times, as the emotional scars surface. Where I attended massage school, they taught us what it means to be “semi-permeable.” The idea of boundary lines that define your personal space and the space for the client. If you are too closed off, then you won’t be able to tune into anyone else’s needs. This was a wonderful exercise for me in many ways. It’s helped me in my relationship with my children as well. In the past, I’ve heard awful comments directed towards me, anywhere from saying that I am a bad mother, to questions like, why didn’t I just get an abortion. Being on the other end of the parenthood journey, with my kids entering the adult world, I would say it was worth the pain, the struggle. We persevered, we are all tough as nails, I can see it from the work ethic my kids have. Even in the most ideal circumstances, children can still have issues. But seeing the love for me in their eyes is very moving. Watching them run around, playing and laughing is like watching my heart dancing outside of me. I wish that some things had been different for them. But through the struggle, we established a strong bond, which I believe will last for years to come. I don’t know who made this quote but it sums up so much. “A son makes love stronger, days shorter, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten and the future worth living for.”
This trial has taught me to not be too quick to dismiss the notion that real love does heal our wounds. In my younger years I would have thought of that notion too trite. Having my children with me in my life has given me profound purpose and meaning. As small children, they looked to me as their constant, their calming force. They were my purpose for staying strong, stoic, steady. When they were little and even now, I give them my continued support. Also, it took me years of being single to allow myself to fall in love again. I feel thankful to my family and to my God that I have another chance at a lifetime partnership. So much healing has taken place but the memories in the emotions are still there. The muscle memories within the physical scars, are still there.
I see what those court advocate where talking about, all those years ago. I have come through the pain of a trial that allows me to empathize with the profound pain of others. Sharing my pain can save lives, or at least meeting others at their depths, so they feel less alone. Not that I have the answers, only the experience in the struggle to survive. I believe now, as a nurse (or soon to be) I can come along side someone and show them I understand what it’s like to be in pain. I can better understand where they’re at because of what I’ve been through. Not everyone is ready to hear a story like mine. A lot of times i get the, “ wide eyed, gaping mouth” reaction. But sometimes I meet someone who says, that it was what they needed to hear. It gives them the courage to set out on their own journey of survival. To start fresh, to start over if that’s what is necessary to start the healing process. As a massage therapist I deal with people and their physical pain all the time. I build care plans around strategies to begin the healing process. Many times, the physical pain is locked up with emotional pain underneath. I understand this, as I am there with them, letting them cry through their trauma. It’s a process that I feel privileged using my skills and abilities to aid in the healing.

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 16X21
I loved this episode! It finally happened! Hayes asked Meredith out and she said YES!!! I’m so happy right now! We're going to see them go on a date and have drinks next season! It’s all I could have hoped for and more! I can’t wait! This episode was a finale that wasn’t supposed to be a finale. With that in mind I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was great! I loved this episode! Mainly because it delivered on the one thing I’d been hoping for since the mid season premiere! It didn’t have the usual shock factor that comes at the end of a planned Grey’s finale, but it was exciting and we got movement on pretty much all of the major storylines up to this point. It’s not where the cast and crew were planning to leave things for this season, but with the sudden onset of the COVID-19 virus and the mandatory shutdowns worldwide they were forced to halt production when filming for this episode had wrapped.
So with that in mind this episode leaves things in a pretty good place with some great set up for next season. Originally the shutdowns and the quarantine was supposed to be temporary and so I had hoped that they would be able to come back and film the remaining four episodes for this season as from what I’ve read the scripts have already been written and the plan was already in place. Unfortunately, since none of us know when the quarantine will end they have decided to roll those episodes into next season and rejig what would have been episode 16X22 to make it more exciting so that it can be the season opener for Season 17.
While I’m sad we won’t see the remaining four episodes as planned this hopefully means that there won’t be any filler episodes next seasons as they’ll rejig and add the four from this season and then write 21 new ones. So let’s talk about that scene with Meredith and Hayes! It was so so great! After hearing the news that she and the other doctors had finally found a diagnosis for Richard’s condition Hayes sought Meredith out as she was leaving for the night. He congratulated her on a great catch and asked her if she’d like to grab a drink with him and celebrate. She said yes, but said she was to exhausted to go out right now and asked her if he’d ask her again some other time. He said of course and told her he’d see her later and she said goodbye for the night.
There were so many things I loved about that scene! It was perfect! I loved that Hayes respected Meredith’s boundaries. He didn't push or try to change her mind. He understood what she was saying and accepted it. With any other love interest they’ve put her with that would have been a whole thing. They would have tried to change her mind or argued with her or tried to convince her and that’s not okay. But Hayes doesn’t do that. Why? Because he’s a mature adult who’s got his stuff together who understands the concept of consent and that yes, but not right now does not mean convince me.
I love that he's so understanding! He gets it! She's tired. She wants to go home and sleep, but she also wants to go out with him when she's feeling better and he wants that too! I can't wait to see them go out! I'm so happy. He's so smitten! Just the way he looks at her! And the way she looks at him! She's so into him! My heart! I love that they established that Hayes doesn’t like setups and he doesn’t even know that he’s in one right now! Jo’s sure not going to tell him. Where would be the fun in that? And he’s right that people are talking about his personal life when he’s not around. Specifically, the fact that Cristina sent him across the Atlantic and set him up with Meredith and everyone’s into it. I love it so much!
Also how deceiving was that episode description? “Hayes asks Meredith a surprising question.” It’s only surprising if you’ve never seen the show before or aren’t caught up on this season! Hayes has been into Meredith since he got to Seattle and Meredith has been into Hayes since they worked that Vaping case together. It’s very obvious in the googly heart eyes they keep making at each other all the time. I love that Hayes asking Meredith out was done in a subtle way with not a lot of fanfare. I really loved that. Because the episode description made it seem like it was going to be this big dramatic thing and I love that it wasn’t. Because real life is not like that. Real life is about the small moments. The intimate moments. The moments that matter. That come naturally when you build up a rapport with someone over time. And that’s what Meredith and Hayes have built.
I was also worried, especially after the Conference episode, that Hayes was still processing his grief in such a way that he wouldn’t feel comfortable asking Meredith out or that everything that’s been happening with DeLuca and now Richard would make him hesitant to ask her out or take the next step. Instead, we saw the opposite. Jo made comments about how him and Meredith would be good together and implied that other people thought so too. He heard about the nonsense that DeLuca had pulled yet again and he heard about what was going on with Richard and his eventual diagnosis. Instead of preventing him from asking her out it actually propelled him. He heard about what had happened with Richard, sought her out, offered his sympathies, congratulated her on a great catch. He then used that as a spring board to ask her out and in response she reciprocated his feelings and said yes! It was subtle, simple, and sweet. As it so often is in real life when you meet the right person.
I’m a big Taylor Swift fan and the slow burn they’ve created for Meredith and Hayes and the way he asked her out really reminded me of Taylor’s music and album journeys from reputation to Lover. The reputation album is about the death of Taylor’s reputation and her response to it. But as she has spoken about in interviews it’s also about a beautiful love story. It’s about how in some of her darkest times she found and formed the most beautiful and amazing relationship with her partner Joe. There’s this undercurrent running through the album about that relationship as it begins. Then in Lover it blossoms fully and we get to hear all about it and how great finding that kind of whole hearted love really is.
To me there is such a great parallel between that musical journey and the relationship we see forming between Meredith and Hayes. It’s this beautiful undercurrent that’s forming amidst the constant chaos that is Meredith’s life and that’s a wonderful thing. It’s this steady current in the background that once given the chance to fully bloom will blossom into this beautiful thing. I’m excited that we’ll get to see that next season. Hayes was back in a big way this episode and I loved it! I love him as a character. I really hope they make him a series regular next season because he is great and he needs more screen time. The female patient Daya who couldn’t express emotion or smile because of her condition and needed facial surgery was hilarious!
I'm really glad that they figured out what was wrong with Richard and he's on the mend! I'm glad Richard kicked Catherine out. She deserved that and in fairness to him he doesn't remember her being there. It looks like he doesn't remember anything prior to the Conference so I get why he's mad. He was also real petty about it and I loved that. Although I was surprised that Meredith wasn't in his room with Maggie and Jackson and Catherine at the end.
She’s his family too and up until he married Catherine she was he’s next of kin, his emergency contact, and had medical power of attorney. Catherine’s left him and was MIA prior to him getting sick, Richard didn’t even know that Maggie existed until a few years ago, and Jackson had barely spoken to the man until Maggie pointed out that Richard thought he was taking Catherine’s side in the divorce. Side note: I’m glad that Maggie and Winston are still texting! Steamily I might add! He should definitely move to Seattle next season!
DeLuca annoyed the crap out of me this episode not because he was wrong, but because of the way he chose to express his opinions as usual. He was right but instead of explaining that calmly to others he screamed at Richard's family and threw a bunch of sharp surgical instruments onto the OR floor while Richard was on the table. I really hope they write him off next season because he annoys the crap out of me, he still hasn’t picked a speciality yet, and I feel they’ve gone as far as they can with his character and then some.
As for that end scene with Meredith and DeLuca here’s how I saw it. I didn't see it as her going home with him. I saw it as she was on her way home when she found him crying on the floor and either drove him home or admitted him for treatment. They established that Carina's back in Seattle so I think she either she drove him home and then called Carina to come take care of her brother or got him admitted and then called her to follow up and then went home and got some well deserved sleep.
I'm glad that he's finally acknowledged that he's got a problem and needs help. That's the first time since he started behaving erratically that we've seen that so that's good. I hope Carina can get him some help and get him admitted somewhere or that Meredith already has. More and more I see the interactions between Meredith and DeLuca as motherly. She’s clearly concerned about him and feels guilty because he went to jail for her and is now failing apart. I hope they write him off next season, but if they don’t I hope he gets the treatment he needs and they both move on or they remain in each other’s lives on a friendly co-worker basis as that’s the only time they ever really work on screen in my opinion. They don’t have chemistry romantically or as friends. I loved that moment in the OR where Bokhee prayed over Richard! Bokhee for the win!
Teddy was a hot mess as usual! I knew the truth was going to come out eventually, but I did not expect that god damn! I'm not an Owen fan, but that scene in the supply closet was still a gut punch. Oof! I loved Tom's speech to Teddy and how he called her out on the fact that she was running into marrying Owen rather than confront her own confused feelings. Teddy really needs to figure out what she wants and pick a lane! I hated the fact that she had sex with Tom in his office and then when he said let's run away together she told him this was goodbye and she was marrying Owen. Who does that? No matter what side you are on here Teddy’s behaviour is just not okay! Oy vey!
I’m glad that Owen stood her up and cancelled the wedding. It’s bad enough that she’s engaged to Owen and carrying on an affair with Tom, but the fact that she had sex with Tom in his office on the day of her wedding and then had the audacity to tell him that was goodbye and she was marrying Owen when she is clearly conflicted is an awful thing to do to everyone. She’s literally hurting all parties involved and that’s just awful. Also how is she planning on explaining this to her kids when they’re older?
Amelia and Link we're super cute this episode! I'm glad that their baby is okay and healthy and that Amelia is okay after what happened with her first pregnancy. She’s been through enough and it looks like she’s finally getting something good in her life with a beautiful new baby and a healthy pregnancy and delivery and a wonderful supportive partner. The throwback to Bailey being there for Amelia like George was there for her was so beautiful! Kudos to Bailey for showing all that strength after she suffered a miscarriage recently!
I'm glad we got to see Bailey spend time with Richard as I felt that was missing last episode. Carina was great in this episode! She has so much potential as a character and I wish they would use her more. She’s such a badass and her facial expressions are always on point. Although I only watch Station 19 sporadically these days I love her relationship with Maya. I’m not an Andrew DeLuca fan at all and I would love if they would start focusing on her more and move her brother back into the background or off the show entirely.
Jo was hilarious! I’m glad she’s getting her spunk back. She reminds me in a lot of ways of Amelia from her early Private Practice days. I loved her comments to Jackson in the OR! Real talk though, what do you think Jackson’s dating profile pic would be? Jet or Yacht? Comment below! Also I love that Jo is so team MerWidow! She totally ships them together! And she's helping to make it happen! Go Jo!
I love how she almost spilled the beans to Hayes about Cristina setting him and Meredith up but then stopped when she realized he didn't know and didn't like set ups. I'm glad she did. Because if she'd said something further then Hayes might not have asked Meredith out. I feel like by the time the truth comes out Meredith and Hayes will already have been dating for a while so he'll be annoyed, but it won't change the way he feels about Meredith. Although let’s be honest nothing could he’s so smitten and he should be! Meredith is amazing and she deserves an amazing man like Hayes.
I saw someone on Twitter comment that it looks like the storyline with Meredith and Hayes beginning to date and the truth coming out about how Cristina set them up was supposed to play out in the next few episodes and I think that’s true. I’m sorry we won’t get to see it this season because of the shutdown but I’m really excited to see this play out next season. Something that did surprise me is that the character interactions in this episode imply that Jo didn’t tell Meredith about what DeLuca did to her and tried to do to her at the bar in the episode ‘Life on Mars’ and still hasn’t told her. I’m surprised by that because Meredith and Jo are friends, what DeLuca did was disgusting and unforgivable, and Jo clearly hasn’t forgotten. In fact in this very episode she made it super clear to Hayes that she detests DeLuca and hates the idea of him and Meredith together and so do others.
This once again brings to light the big problem with DeLuca in that the only reason Meredith went out with him, continued to date him, and continues to interact with him out of concern is because her friends and family aren't being completely honest with her about his behaviour and how he acts when she’s not around. Because let’s face it. If Meredith knew what DeLuca was really like when she wasn’t there she wouldn’t give that asshole the time of day. I can’t emphasize this enough. Your friends and family should be able to be honest with you about the person you’re dating and anyone that’s in your life. They should feel comfortable being honest with you and telling you how they feel. They shouldn’t have to hid the worst parts of them in order to protect you or so that you can be happy. I also don’t get how anyone can ship Meredith and DeLuca together or want him to continue to be a part of her life when he treats the people she loves so horribly and they openly detest him so much.
I’m sorry we have to wait so long to find out what happens next to our heroes. But I am very much looking forward to next season and watching Meredith and Hayes develop further!
Until next time!

Stan Uris x Reader: Making up for Lost Time, the Final Part!
Tumblr media
This will probably be the last part, and then like a cute lil epilogue
Warnings for the series include: canon issues including self harm, attempted suicide, emotional trauma, mentioned disordered eating, the clown, anxiety, adult Bill Denbrough’s personality, book and movie canon being merged together because I like to play god, light smut and my terrible vocabulary, canon events.
-Stan thinks about his divorce the second he wakes up. Mostly, it’s prompted by the fact that you’ve already left before he woke up. That’s fair, he understands the uproar in the townhouse if you’d been caught sneaking out of his room. And the fact that he had just strayed from his marriage, and that he felt more loved last night than he had since he was a teen. But he thinks about how easy it will be. How he would much rather be facing divorce and talking to his attorney than being in Derry right now.
-Patricia was amazing. Maybe that’s why he had fallen for her at one point in his life. But after they had stopped trying for kids, all sense of romance had fizzled from the relationship. She wanted kids, and he couldn’t give them to her. He couldn’t blame her for being distant and she would never blame him for falling out of love. That’s why if he called her right now, she would already be cancelling their trip to Argentina, and they’d both agree they’d have to work on some paperwork, and they’d both hang up feeling unhurt.
-So He makes that call, and Stanley Uris breathes a sigh of relief for once. He hopes they remain friends. He wants Patricia to know she meant a lot to him.
-Downstairs, a storm is brewing. The losers are wracking their brains to think of tokens they can use to defeat it. You are especially struggling, as you cannot remember being alone once that summer. You had never encountered it alone at any time, despite being one of the losers most aggressively attacked by it. You remember the scar on your leg, how it hurts when it rains. But you don’t remember solitude. Everything that summer was the losers. Everything that summer was Stanley, too.
-But then a memory with Beverly seems to be your best lead. Although you weren’t alone, it was the most alone you’ve ever felt, save for her hand holding yours and pulling you away from public pain and bullying. She was there when Greta had somehow gotten a hold of your journal. You knew something was up when you found the lock for it in your bag without the book attached.
-You remember it vividly, how she stood on a bench in the cafeteria and read it aloud. She spilled everything from your parents neglect, to your struggles with body image and how you skipped meals, to your crush on another loser.
-God, it reminded you of that movie Carrie, how they all laughed at you and you couldn’t do anything to stop it. But then Bev tangled her fingers in yours and dragged you out of there, out of the school and back to the quarry. You couldn’t even feel yourself crying in the water. You really had to thank her, but she probably would just shake it off. That lock would be your token, but you knew it would have to be at the bottom of the quarry.
-Stan doesn’t come down until the token discussion is almost over, but you notice he looks at peace for the first time since you reunited with him. He moves to get closer to you, but you figure he has to do this alone just like you. It’s not a coincidence that Bill and Bev are also not acknowledging each other personally.
-As you go to head off to the quarry, Stan catches you by the door. The way he grabs your wrist is soft but firm, and fills you with the feeling of last night. Your body calls to him and you feel flush all over, but now is not the time.
-“Find your token, then we’ll talk about this.” You dismiss him before he even begins. It’s as gentle as you can be, but it’s not the time for this. Last night can wait until after this clown is dead. You cannot afford to be distracted, even if all you want to do is sink to your knees in front of him and worship.
———
-Finding the lock was more than a struggle. The second the lock was in sight, the algae came to life. Pennywise no doubt, but you barely escaped with your life. Half drowned, you Trek back to the townhouse and ignore the stares around town. The rusted lock is held in your vice grip, and that is all that matters.
-But what you come back to is Eddie bleeding profusely from the face. Richie, Mike, and Bill are all missing, and there is absolutely no time to lose.
-You all meet Bill at the Neibolt house after patching up Eddie, and fear almost makes you run right then. You can’t find yourself actually entering the house until Stan is behind you and using his hand to guide you up the steps with him. You are the last two to enter the house.
-It shows itself to you as Stan in the kitchen; but as a corpse. Waterlogged, bleeding black from the arms. All the sudden all of the little comments and the bandage on his arm makes sense, and you’re paralyzed with fear. You knew what he was going to do before coming here. And he was going to leave you alone.
-Bill, Stan, and Richie all have to work together to pull the corpse off of you. You didn’t even try to fight it off and accepted death with tears running down your face. You hear Bill yell at Eddie for not helping, but it doesn’t process the way it should. Everything feels far away, your ears are ringing, you can’t focus on any one object or face. You don’t care. You don’t care at all about what could have happened to you and all about what could have happened to Stan.
-Meanwhile Stan is terrified for you. He watched you give up and succumb to fear before you even reached the sewer, all because of him. He holds you close and wipes the blood from where it cut you and tries to hide the tears on his face as he pulls you further and further with the rest of the group.
-The two of you are gripped to each other as you enter the cavern with the crater, until you all have to hold each other’s hands and throw in your tokens. His is a shower cap; yours is a lock, and neither of you explain your tokens. But you close your eyes and chant with everyone else.
-And it almost seems to work. But then it gets bigger. It separates you. And all of the sudden you’re back in the cafeteria. And the laughing from that day surrounds you but there are no people in sight. It’s just you and the laughter and the walls closing in on you.
-Through the laughter, a voice rings out, snaps you out of your trance like fear and brings you back. Stan screams out to you and grabs you by the arm. You’re yanked out of the cafeteria and somehow back into the cavern.
-“Stay the fuck away from my girlfriend” Stan cries, as he starts pelting any rocks he can at the now spider like Pennywise, running away from you to get it away from you, even if that means putting himself in danger.
-But instead of him it’s Richie in danger, and then Eddie. And by the end of the battle, Eddie is gone. But there’s no time to save his body or say goodbye because the cavern is collapsing and Richie needs to be dragged out.
-Once the remainder of you are safe, you go back to the quarry for the second time in twenty four hours. You wash yourselves of the sewers and hold each other as you cry. Cathartic doesn’t even begin to describe it.
-“Stan you called her your girlfriend!” Followed by “Beep Beep Richie” and you all knew it would be okay from here on out. Eddie would not be forgotten, you could all live without fear, and new futures could be planned.
-Ben and Beverly left first, together, which surprised you but you figured you somehow always knew. Richie left soon after, but not before telling you to visit often now that he knew you were on the west coast as well. Bill left to write a new book. A tribute to Eddie. He also got divorced, which he didn’t need to call to tel you because you saw it in a tabloid magazine in a pharmacy. Mike decided he would finally leave Derry, but he had to plan where he would go first.
-Stan went to Atlanta without you, and you took a flight back to Seattle. He had things to sort out, but you had no doubt that he would come to you when it was time.
-One day, weeks later, the phone rings and it’s your Stanley. “Open the door, Babylove,” he says. And he’s there. Just like he always should have been.
———————————-
Epilogue maybe?????? Idk
