Confession, as a DC Comics Fan:

I don't like the shippings Damian Wayne had over the years. Not anymore, at least.

For awhile, I've been seeing a TON of Damian Wayne stuff related to ships on the internet. From big ones like Damirae or Damijon to smaller ships like Damian x Cassie or Damian x Djinn or Damian X Emiko. Then there was Damian and Flatline (or Nika) that became recently canon in the comic run, Lazarus Tournament (check it out, I think its cool). These ships had a fair share of fans and I've been one of them.

Until... I eventually grew out of it. Why?

Cause as I grew older, I'm getting a change of taste and a refreshed perspective of things, you know? So, with how much research I gather from Damian's character and these ships, opinions change. Some I lost likeness than I usually did. Some I got bored with overtime. Some, I just didn't care for as much. Lemme clarify, I still think some ships are likable than others, especially their dynamics with Damian as a character. But when I look between the characters he interacts with and their histories... It kinda makes me wonder... Does it really work? Are they worth it?

First, lemme start with the demon birds: Damirae. Damian x Raven. This was the first Damian Wayne shipping I discovered as a fan of the DC Animated Movie Universe. I watched JLVSTT (terrible title) to TT:JC to Apokolips War and ultimately... I was hooked. These characters could relate and they had such heartfelt and bittersweet tragic terms with the storyline. I cried when they shared their first AND final kiss (don't judge, I'm sensitive, 😭). This ship was my first and I fell in love with it! Plus, these characters have always been and will always BE my favorite in any DC storyline.

As I got older and learned more about them in other continuities, I grew a change of philosophy... I DON'T THINK IT WORKS. Hold on! Before Damirae fans explode! Hear me out. I see the appeal. They're similar in experience and personality, the idea of Damian, being the Grandson of the Demon's Head, dating a literal demon sounds cool (even if Rae wasn't originally a demon-). There's a lot in terms of age and direction with storylines I can see being a problem. Though, from how I see things and I say this from personal experience; similarities will not always be great in relationships. Their personalities just don't bounce each other off well for me. Additionally, I feel like some fanfics between this ship just don't do their characters justice. In a short question I've had with another user, I can say, I agree that some fans interpret this romance like a demon x angel dynamic. Like, Damian being into taking over the world while Raven is easily swayed on joining such pursuit. While the idea is... interesting, it does bug me a bit. It doesn't suit well with their characterization in my eyes. Plus, I feel like in other continuities, Raven, in character, would either,

1. Not like his personality.

2. Act as some sort of sympathetic sibling/mentor to him.

Honestly, number two sounds more fun and has potential in my eyes. 💜

Second, the one and only super sons; Damijon. Damian X Jon. These two are my ✨ world ✨. I've followed up with their comic storyline through YouTube (I have yet to snatch the comics-) and WOW they are just so, SO entertaining to watch! Jonathan Kent was super adorable (get it?)! Damian was a little troll but I love it! The movie was also spot on — the animation, the writing, the characters, the moments were just dynamite pure! I will love these two with a passion till the day I die! However, as much as I love these boys in all my heart and soul, I DO NOT ship them. It's cute but I just don't see them being anything more than friends, to be honest. 🦸

Third, the recent grave birds: Damiline. Damian X Flatline. OMG, I liked Flatline! I thought she was so cool! Not to mention, her power to absorb the abilities of warriors she's killed has so much potential. Sure, there were times when I thought moments of her were unnecessary or annoying, but she definitely caught my eye because she was just that fun! Her relationship with Damian was... interesting enough. I do feel like the romance was there because they were in a literal death tournament... if you know what I mean. It felt rushed. Plus, she kinda betrayed him later on. I'm surprised we didn't get a reaction from Damian to this too. Eventually, I looked into Flatline's solo issue in New Evolution. I feel like this issue in particular is where Flatline considers Damian as an afterthought. It was also this line that stood out the most for me — "We'll see how long that lasts". This could mean their relationship may one day end short. And I believe Flatline is just as aware of this too. BUT. I don't think this is a bad thing. It could allow opportunities for her to develop without always being in a romantic role. I like the character, I just don't see this working for too long. It feels like the writers were trying to throw a goth x goth romance for the sake of the plot. 💀

I hear Flatline's coming back, though! I'm excited to see her return!

Fourth, Damian X Cassie Sandsmark (Wonder Girl). This originated from the DCeased storyline, where the world suffered a zombie-like apocalypse thanks to Cyborg bringing the Anti-Life Equation to Earth. Though... To me, she just seemed like another "Jonathan Kent" best friend, than anything else. Probably just me. If there were more interactions, maybe I'll reconsider. 🦸

Fifth, Damian X Djinn. Now, I thought this had potential. They did seem genuine with each other and had nice conversations. Though, if the pedophile part wasn't involved (Djinn being an immortal deity), I'd probably give it a chance. But I don't really ship it because of that fact. 😓 🧞‍♀️

And finally, Damian X Emiko Queen (Red Arrow). I don't see much appeal to this ship. They had similarities, sure, but... that's about it. Damian just had a brief "stalker-crush" and that was gone. So, not much to be said there. Like I mentioned before, if there were more interactions between them, maybe I'll consider. For now, it's not for me. 🏹

This will be where my confession comes to an end. These are my thoughts and opinions. You guys don't have to agree with me but that's just how I see these ships regarding Damian Wayne as a character. Arguments are welcome in the comments. I'm fascinated by these juicy conversations!

Dean is captured by a Djinn and dreams of Y/N.

She turned, smiling at me. From the smirk on her lips I knew she had caught me checking her out. She giggled approaching me. "Keep looking at me like that and we wont make it to Sam's," She explained seductively before leaning up. I smirked, leaning in to connect our lips. A kiss, intended to be short and sweet but developed into roaming hands and dancing tongues. I smirked against her lips, thankful I was here though I knew I didn't want to be anywhere else.

"Excuse me!" An old woman's voice called from behind me. I moved to pull away but my lips wouldn't allow me to leave hers. The woman in my arms, the love of my life only pulling me closer.

*What Dean couldn't see was his woman flipping the old lady the finger over Dean's shoulder. *

"How rude! There are kids in this neighbourhood," The woman continued to complain. I watched as she pulled away from the kiss, eyes rolling. She looked pissed.

"Wind your neck in lady or we'll show them the birds and the bee's right on this porch," Her voice was raised, her eyes serious and dark but a smile never leaving her lips. It wasn't a sincere smile but a smile non the less. I chuckled, admiring her as she stared the lady down. Damn!

The old hag scoffed dramatically, looking around for other neighbours to take her side but no one was looking in our direction. She grumbled as she walked away.

"What a cuck," My woman scoffed before turning to me, as soon as her eyes were on me she had loving and happy eyes. Her smile reflecting the love she has for me. I wanted to chuckle but didn't want to miss a second of looking at her. "Come on, hot stuff. You're driving," She explained holding car keys out to me. I chuckled as I accepted the keys, she moved to keep walking but I pulled her back by her waist. Instantly connecting our lips again. She giggled as she kissed me back but pulled away smiling brightly. My lips curled into a smile as I admired her up close.

"I love you," I confessed but she chuckled, placing a hand on my cheek.

"I love you too," She expressed, connecting our lips softly and pulling away slowly. "We do have to go though," She explained reluctantly. I nodded, finally releasing her hips from my grasp. She smiled interlocking our fingers to hold my hand as she guided me down the porch steps and towards the car.

1967 Chevy Impala. I admired it's beauty, wondering how I could possibly recognise the car more than the amazing woman who loves me. I still don't know her name. Maybe I should look for letters in the mail, that will surely have her name on it. Her fingers began slipping from mine as she made her way to the passenger's side. I took the opportunity to slap her ass as she walked away. She looked back, smirking at me devilishly. The grin on my face growing as I got another excuse to admire her.

We got in the car, AC/DC instantly playing through the car as I started the engine. She gasped leaning forward to turn it up. She likes rock music, how is she getting more and more perfect? I put the car in reverse ready to drive away before realising I have no idea where I'm going.

"I'll give you directions don't worry," She explained as if it was no big deal. I looked at her, taking a second to just watch her as her smile grew wider the more I was looking at her. She giggled after a little while. "What?" She asked.

"I love you," I confessed because she knows me so well. I have no idea what's going on and she's guiding me through it so easily. She knows me better than I know myself.

"I love you too," She chuckled as she shook her head softly.

She guided me all the way to Sam's house. We pulled up outside to see a small house on a quiet street, 7 houses at most. I smiled knowing he must be happy here. I turned off the car, she gave me a final smile and kiss before climbing out. I can't stop smiling, she's too perfect! I climbed out and watched as she opened the back door and started grabbing a large bag full of wrapped presents and a card on top. I grinned knowing she must have put a lot of effort into this. I hurried to her side as she started leading the way to his house, I placed my hand over hers, accepting the bag from her grasp. She smiled brightly but chuckled.

"It's a little heavy," She explained but I shrugged, it can't be that heavy. She chuckled before dropping the bag into my hand. My eyes almost popped out of my head. It wasn't too heavy that I couldn't carry it but it was heavy enough to make me almost drop it. She laughed, a beautiful, harmonic laugh. Stopping in her tracks to bend, she was laughing so hard. I chuckled, simply wishing to always remember this moment no matter what happens.

"Oh, you think that's funny?" I asked playfully, she struggled for breath as she stood up straight about to come back with a snarky remark but couldn't hold her laugh in any longer and burst out again. I laughed alongside her.

"Having fun without me," Sam's voice called from his front door. I looked up as he started walking out to greet us. She stopped laughing and her smile was beaming. "Y/N," He exclaimed hurrying down his porch steps. That's her name! Y/N. Y/N. Y/N. I need to remember it! Y/N. Y/N. Y/N.

"Sammy!" She exclaimed rushing to hug him. They met in the middle hugging tightly as he lifted her from the ground. He put her down and turned to me not noticing that she playfully rolled her eyes at him. I grinned widely, they're best friends. I love it! Sam hurried to me a little, I wasn't completely sure how we would greet each other but his arms opened and I accepted his tight hug. I grinned widely, patting his back with my free hand. He stepped back smiling at me widely.

"Happy birthday, Sammy," I explained holding my arm up a little to offer him the bag. He looked surprised before accepting it and smiled at me with tear filled eyes.

"Thank you, you didn't have to do all this," He explained, grabbing the card from the top.

"Y/N did it all," I cheered, happy to be saying her name. It rolled of my tongue with ease. She gasped audibly. I looked to see her approaching. She stood by my side, lifting my left arm to drape over her shoulders, I smiled as I pulled her in closer.

"I'll have you know, it's baby to you," She explained correcting me. I chuckled seeing the irony. I've felt terrible all morning for not knowing her name and now she only wants me to call her baby. I didn't even need to know it really. "But Dean's being modest, he has been working on your gifts for months, isn't that right babe?" She asked, turning to wink at me to play along. She wants me to take the credit. She's fucking perfect!

"Well, I wouldn't say that," I played it off but Sam chuckled.

"I really appreciate it, man. Thank you," Sam explained, coming back to hug me again.

"Don't say that, you haven't opened them yet," Y/N joked, making us laugh as we pulled away from the hug. She clapped her hands together. "Alright, where's my nephew? Russ!" She called out facing the house. My eyes widened as I watched his front door. Sammy has a son?!

A dog burst through the screen door, it banged against the wood panelling of his house. I almost sighed with relief. Thank God I didn't forget a child. Y/N's face lit up as the dog rushed to her and she quickly stroked him talking to him with a baby voice. She keeps getting cuter and cuter.

"Come on, I'll get us a beer," Sam explained, gesturing with his head to the house. I watched Y/N as she smiled brightly and joined me at my side for the small walk. I draped my arm over her shoulders, watching as she smiled even brighter.

"God, I love you," I whispered as I kissed the top of her head as we walked.

"I love you too," She explained slowing down and turning to me to quickly connected our lips. She really is perfect.

STARFIRE (DC COMICS) (CW: Sex Trafficking)

1.) She is frequently put down in the og 80s comics due to being more expressive and open with her emotions, and ever since the og she has frequently been painted as just eyecandy (ignoring her sexual trauma) when her character is so incredibly complex. Special mention goes to red hood and the outlaws (2011) (written by a sexual harasser) for just terrible stand out awful reasons which will be seen in the below photos and her 2015 solo for combining her vapid portrayal there with her cartoon quirkiness to culminate in a trash comic that is just her basically being the born sexy yesterday trope.

2.) 2011 reboot, in RHATO she was turned into a walking fetish by retconning most parts of her character and erasing all personality displayed in the past 30 years of comics. in that iteration she is only interested in sex and is dehumanised and ‘exotic’. she ‘forgot’ all her past relationships because she doesn’t care about them only sex. her only purpose in that book is as a powerhouse and a sex/love interest for one of the male characters who view her as a trophy because she used to date someone he dislikes (in this continuity) let’s also not forget that she was first created just to be a love interest and although she did grow into a hood character at some point, she is treated horribly time and time again by writers because of conflicting ships. she’s written as a ‘vixen’ as opposed to another ‘good girl’ female character who is shipped with the same guy in canon

3.) Her original characterization was fairly decent, however it still had her stuck in relationships with men that weren't very good for her and had overtones of racism with how she was written. Post that her characterization was slowly chipped away at, some writers with harder sledgehammers than others, culminating in current writing where she's dismissed as "just a fling" to her original counterpart (Dick Grayson) to prop up a different ship (Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon) and frequently has been used as eye candy in other comics. Simply open the first comic of Red Hood and the Outlaws, which obliterated her personality to make her associate/be subservient to the Red Hood, and you'll find plenty of panels of her appearing simply for eye candy in the boobs and butt pose for absolutely no reason. This is not the only time she's been used to cater to the male gaze (I'd argue even in her original context that was part of her appeal) but in this comic she essentially has no personality beyond "i want sex" as her memory of all past events has been erased. She's essentially just a tool for her male counterparts in the comic to bounce off of, and eye candy to bring more male readers in. She does eventually get more storylines later on, but that doesn't excuse the bad writing she was put through. Her own solo series also cashes in on her sex appeal, by infantilizing at the same time as drawing her in skimpy outfits + more boobs and butt poses galore to go for the "born sexy yesterday" misogynistic trope.

NYA SMITHA (LEGO NINJAGO)

1.) it would take way too long to talk abt all of it but like… in the series colors are very important for characters and everyone has their own color but from episode one for the next 8 seasons her colors were specifically tied to her brother.. and then when she finally got her own ninja outfit she wasnt given her own color the colors were specifically red for her brother and blue for her boyfriend. shes constantly diminished to just the men who are closest to her. also every time she meets someone they Must become a love interest (including the man who was significantly older than her and trained her to use her powers. and also she was kidnapped and forced to marry a thousand year old djinn (when she was like SIXTEEN) because she looked a little bit like his dead wife. weird as hell.)

2.) she was given NOWHERE NEAR as much development as the guys (except for the bullshit love triangle!!!) despite being at the time leagues more competent than her brother in their debut, was damsel’d so he had to Save The Girl. again, the Bullshit Love Triangle. even after she got her own “thing” she was just boiled down to “oh look it’s the girlboss!! she’s just as good as the guys!!” while still getting sidelined. as time went on and flanderization increased she pretty much just became The Team Girl, and she was ALREADY The Team Girl!!! they left her behind with the fuckin grandpa!!!

3.) Left behind to take care of the kid simply because “she’s the girl” for the first season and a half, is fairly blatantly excluded from the team, is believed to be unable to protect herself or others by antagonists throughout the series, and repeatedly dehumanized and referred to exclusively as “girl.” When the ninja are public figures in season 6 she is shown dealing with misogyny from the press in several ways, and in her focus season (Seabound) she speaks out against how she’s been treated as an object rather than a person. All around a girlboss who deserves better

Okay, so, I saw your Chaos emeralds DC X Dp prompt and I thought, "What about The Digimentals from digimon 02?" Think about it, they are abstract and embody certain Virtues and concepts tied to them! What if Danny, Sam, and Tucker did the thing with Digimentals instead of the Emeralds! It'd be fun and interesting to think up the Armor evos for them, because they all have different point with each Crest. Like Danny Definitely has a wolf or other big canine for the friendship Digimental due to his protectiveness towards it friends, plus his affinity to Canine ghosts in the show, I'm willing to bet many of his Armor evos would be canine related, like Sincerity would be like a Shinto Fox Priest and Hope would be Canis Major or the Dog star.

-Just incase the ideas of the Digimental are foreign to you? They don't need to be inspired by every concept of the digimental.-Courage: bravery, Reptiles, Sun, Religious beliefs related to sun, dinosaurs, Minor dragon, fire.

-Friendship: standard forest animals, Ice or lightning.

-Love: wind, flying, affection, love towards certain things(abstract, love of home, friends, romance, platonic, Hatred(the negative side of love as it is not its opposite, rather its dark side), native American elements.

-Sincerity: plants and Japanese(shinto and taoism) culture.

-Knowledge: Earth, insects, drills.

-Reliability: water, aquatic life(natural or mythical) and or combined with aquatic craft(vehicles).

-Kindness: friendliness, compassion, Cutelike, Red Gloves for some reason.

-Light: Egyptian myth, Angel like wings.

-Hope: stars, Greek mythology, constellations, zodiac.

-Miracles: fairly abstract one, mainly golden armor, (possible ideas be like divine beings, or even imbodiments of a miracle or being able to bring out certain miracles, like a Djinn). Or being able to do something conceivably impossible, like becoming a Flying Elephant!

-Fate/destiny: similar to miracles, gold armor, being able to affect fate in some way, change the fate of others, to control your own destiny.

I'm sorry, I've been looking at this anyway I can and can't, really, think of much for this...

But imagine Constantine getting absolutely dogpiled by three teens just because he breathed wrongly around them while the big three is calmly sipping tea with one of said teens parents.

Constantine is out here magicking his life away, not knowing what he even did wrong, all because three kids decided to just ruin his day.

And you know what? They did indeed, effectively ruin his day even harder than it was already.

Meanwhile, Batman is done in the Fenton lab, stoic face yet marveling at the technology they managed to make with household items and limited amounts of money.

Wonderwoman is fisting fighting sentient food and wondering if she could find a way to take these home, while Clark is just sitting there being there pretty and talking with Jack Fenton.

Of course, Superman and Wonderwoman can hear Constantine fighting for his life, but its like, whatever.

I don't really think seniority matters as much as the willingness to research and play the games. I'm not sure if I feel comfortable calling myself a "veteran" fan, because while I technically have played a lot of Sonic games, my knowledge base doesn't feel comprehensive enough outside of the general range of the early Adventure games to warrant discussion. Can't talk about TSR or Riders, for instance, because racing games bore me and so I never finished them. Or '06, which I refuse to finish on the basis of it being an utter soul-suck of a game. I've been a Sonic fan since 2002, though sometimes I forget that fact because I go through "gap years" in which I feel distant from the series for some reason or another. Back in 2006-2010 it was the inability to play new releases because broke. In 2014, it was Boom, which everyone was sort of... weird... about. Nowadays it's the alienation I feel for the utter hype surrounding IDW, Prime, and Frontiers. This ride is for life, but it's not always a smooth one.

In addition, real life needs attending to, my knowledge of the games tends to become hazy and vague after a while, and I don't necessarily have the time to play and refresh my memory. There are also details about the games that I've overlooked the first time around, such as the fact that Sonic and Shahra both call the antagonist "the" Erazor Djinn multiple times throughout SatSR, implying his name is a title, as opposed to fandom which simply refers to him as "Erazor Djinn," implying it is a name.

I've been in the privileged position of growing up with my preferred era of games. During my childhood, a new Sonic game would come out roughly every year. These days it's harder to access that era of games because some of them, like Shuffle or Battle, are abandonware.

While these roadblocks are real and valid, on the other hand... In this age of having practically any information you want to know available at your fingertips, it's no excuse to just Say Whatever you want about those games. There's the inability to access the game, and then there's the refusal to meet it halfway. Far too often you encounter the latter over the former.

Certainly, I won't pretend to know about every single Sonic game there is. That's why I don't talk about them. I talk instead about the handful of games I do know about. Hopefully, I might say something interesting about them every once in a while. hello yes can I gush about those semi-transparent reflections in SA2 DC I promise I'm normal about it

The other day @woodchipp and I were talking about how modern fandom seems to base their impressions of a game on "vibes" rather than playing the games for themselves. This is how you get wild takes divorced from reality, when folks value aesthetics over accuracy. In any case, my stance has always been that you don't necessarily have to know every single little detail about any given game; you just need to know what you're talking about in a general overarching sense. I'll know you haven't played the game when you neglect basic, unmissable plot points.

For example: "Tails found Emerl on the beach in Battle" tells me you haven't played Battle, because Sonic finding Emerl on the beach is what kickstarts the entire game. "SA2 never shows us where Shadow stole the Chaos Emerald from" tells me you haven't played SA2, because the game specifies that detail twice - once in recap, once during a cutscene - and you would have known that had you been paying attention.
