I'm happy to release a new version of my hamster card game: Sunflower Seeds! The new "regular" edition is in box packaging with poker sized cards, and is available at a cheaper price than the original "tin" edition. The tin edition is sturdier and has smaller cards, while the regular edition is more standard card game style.

Our enclosure and wheel size requirements vary depending on species. These are just the minimums- we encourage you to go larger if you are able. With enough enrichment, plenty of hiding spots, and deep bedding there is no such thing as too large of an enclosure.

Jokyou Seikatsuroku Ichijou: chapter 7 review

A very cute chapter, one of the best...! Featuring one of my favourite animals...!

Do you have a pet?

I had wanted Ichijou and Murakami to get a pet.

I thought, it might be a cat, or a guinea pig (like in Pui Pui Molcar). Guinea pigs are very popular in Japan now.

Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw a tiny cute hamster...!

I was obsessed with hamsters when I was little, so this highly delighted me.

Momota is its name. It is a Sapphire-Blue Djungarian Hamster. Murakami named it after Momotaro the peach boy, the fairy tale character from Okayama. It's also a Hamtaro reference! (Minky Momo is also based on him.)

It’s not a Pui Pui Molcar reference, because cavies and hamsters are two different animals. Even though they’re both pet rodents, they are very different.

The plot of this chapter: Ichijou comes home from work, he gets scared by a mysterious noise. It's the squeak of a hamster running in its excersise wheel...! Murakami got this pet from a neighbour. Ichijou gets upset and chastises Murakami, as he thinks that keeping even a small pet costs too much money.

Ichijou looks very nice and cozy in a cable knit sweater...!

But soon he warms up and sees Momota as similar to himself- running in the same place on an exercise wheel.

He looks at his pet hamster running in a wheel and thinks, it's literally me. Is Ichijou a “Literally Me” character? Yes, he is like Patrick Bateman, and he even has a literal Joker moment in a later chapter.

Ichijou works hard on the TOIEC test. I'd very much like to listen to him saying English words. I'd absolutely love Jokyou Seikatsuroku Ichijou to receive an anime adaptation, for all sorts of reasons.

Ichijou now sees Momota as a kindred spirit. He takes good care of Momota and cleans its cage regularly.

Then, Momota escapes- hamsters are crafty escape artists, that is why Houdini is a popular hamster name. They look everywhere, then Ichijou finds Momota, thank goodness...!

Then, Ichijou invents a very clever hamster toy for Momota to play with! Wait- it looks a bit familiar...

What a wonderful and adorable chapter. Momota appears many times from now on!
